Girard-Perregaux Competizione Stradale Chronograph Watch Review

There is something uniquely special about a nicely executed, simple chronograph. At a time, when everything has to be explained, scrutinized and analyzed, every once in a while, it just feels sweet to be able to lean back and enjoy the perks of a job done well. Once you cut the whole “’70s vintage-inspired” malarkey, that is what you end up having with the Girard-Perregaux Competizione Stradale Chronograph watch. Let us now explain, scrutinize, and analyze.

Girard-Perregaux Competizione Stradale Chronograph Watch Review Wrist Time Reviews

’70s Vintage Malarkey

I do genuinely wonder, is there any serious watch lover out there, today, in mid-2016, who’d suddenly get uncomfortable in their trousers because an old brand re-released a vintage-inspired watch with a new case and size and movement? Sure, there are numerous highly desirable classics out there that would make a huge splash if they were faithfully re-done today with modern manufacturing technology… But the Girard-Perregaux Competizione Stradale, as far as I know, is not based on any specific one of them. And that’s a good thing.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro Review

The Redmi Pro has a number of firsts for Xiaomi. It’s their first handset to sport an OLED display and also, their first device to have two rear cameras. But, is it any good? Here’s our take on the Xiaomi Redmi Pro.

Design and Construction

Let’s begin with the impressive build of the device. Up front is the 5.5-inch display surrounded by a fair amount of bezel. A 5MP selfie camera sits above the display while a fingerprint scanner flanked by a pair of capacitive buttons is placed below – similar to the Mi 5 flagship smartphone.

Arcam MusicBoost S review

Forget death and taxes, the two things you can be certain of are the need for better quality music and your Apple iPhone’s battery depleting quicker than a jug of Pimm’s at Wimbledon.

Wouldn’t it be great if someone made a device that addressed both at the same time?

Arcam has done just that. The MusicBoost S is a portable headphone amplifier, DAC and battery pack that fits your iPhone like a glove – for the reasonable price of £99 (it’s had a price cut from £120).

It is designed specifically for the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, but considering there are of course tens of millions of those smartphones in use, it’s not as niche as you might think.

Build

The original MusicBoost was designed with only the iPhone 6 in mind, and while Arcam claimed it would also fit the 6S, it was a struggle to free it from the case. The fit was far too tight, even with the iPhone 6.

Logitech Pop Review: A smarter button for the IoT

It’s an awkward fact of life: the smart home, and the Internet of Things in general, is meant to make life more streamlined but can often just leave us poking at our phones more frequently. Want to turn the lights on? There’s an app for that. Want to play your favorite new album? There’s an app for that too. Sometimes you yearn for the halcyon days of a switch, and that’s just what Logitech is offering with Pop, a programable shortcut button.

Setup is simple. The bridge – which, as the name suggests, connects the Bluetooth LE buttons to your home network – plugs straight into a spare outlet, then is recognized by the iOS or Android app where you tell it your WiFi login. It then walks you though pairing a button, effectively just pressing the Pop at which point it shows up in the app, and finally the process of scanning for compatible devices.

Yuneec Typhoon H Drone Review

Image result for Yuneec Typhoon H Drone

If you are serious about taking high-quality airborne video, you need a drone that offers serious quality and flexibility. The Typhoon H is the latest model from Yuneec for the high-end drone user, shooting very high quality 4K video and offering a lot of features. Relatively quiet operation, a 360-degree pannable camera and a big-screen HD video preview are among the features on offer in this attractive package.

Design

Looking like a matte black flying insect, the Typhoon H is a large, but lightweight drone. It uses six engines to fly, two more than the usual quadcopter, with the idea being that more engines means more control. Each of the six engines is on the end of a 9-inch carbon fiber arm that folds up when not in use, making the hexacopter smaller and easier to store. When you want to fly, the arms fold up and lock in place.

Microsoft Surface Dock Review : Turn Surface Into a Desktop

The Microsoft Surface Dock turns your Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book into a desktop system. Plug all of your peripherals into your Surface Pro 4 or Surface book quickly with one connection. How well does it handle all those connections and is it worth the price for the convenience it offers?

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 does the best job of transforming between a laptop and a tablet. It’s fairly light and portable, but large enough to use like an ultra-portable notebook. The Surface Type Cover keyboard feels good and the touch screen on the Surface Pro 4 makes up for the terrible trackpad included in the Type Cover.

microsoft surface dock connected to surface 2

A Surface Dock can transform the Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book into the most versatile Windows computer available. The tablet surprises many users with the level of computing power included in the Surface Pro 4. The processor, memory, and storage can handle almost all of your Windows computing needs. However, some people may want a larger 22-40 inch screen and a desktop class keyboard and/or mouse. Wi-Fi’s great, but some people also need wired networking on occasion. They might also like to connect a few USB peripherals, like a printer, a backup hard drive or more. That’s why the Microsoft Surface Dock ($199.99) makes sense.

Ringing Bells Freedom 251 Review : Based on Initial Impressions

BUILD AND DESIGN Review:

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Ringing Bells Freedom 251 Review : Based on Initial Impressions

The Freedom 251 smartphone looks very similar to the Adcom Ikon 4, actually it looks the same as the Ikon 4, which is available on other e-commerce websites in a price range of Rs. 3,500 – Rs. 4000. It comes with a plastic body and the front of it has a circular home button that reminds us the iPhone. It houses the power and volume rocker keys on the left side and the speaker grilles are placed at the bottom. The back of the smartphone has an Indian flag printed on it and the camera module is placed on the top left corner. Zotac ZBOX MAGNUS EN980 SFF PC Review – An Innovative VR-Ready Gaming Powerhouse

The PC market has been subject to challenges over the last several years. However, gaming systems and small form-factor (SFF) PCs have weathered the storm particularly well. Many vendors have tried to combine the two, but space constraints and power concerns have ended up limiting the gaming performance of such systems. Zotac, in particular, has been very active in this space with their E-series SFF PCs. The Zotac ZBOX MAGNUS EN980 that we are reviewing today is the follow-up to last year’s MAGNUS EN970 that combined a Broadwell-U CPU with a GTX 970M (rebadged as a GTX 960).

Final Sonorous III review

Sonorous (adjective): capable of producing a deep, full, ringing sound.

So ‘sonorous’ is a strong, positive word with only good connotations when it comes to hi-fi equipment. So why are we so ambivalent about it? Is it because it reminds us of soporific, or sounds a bit like ‘snoring’?

We didn’t let that bother us when we reviewed the bling-tastic Sonorous X headphones towards the end of last year.

Mind you, they cost over ten times the price of this pair, the Final Sonorous III, so we’re not expecting to draw too many comparisons beyond vaguely dwelling on the name.

Comfort

There are visual similarities, though. The Final Sonorous III headphones are built to the same broad template as the Sonorous X, although mercifully short of the latter’s shiny finish.

They’re big – though not AKG K550 ear-defenders big – and sturdily constructed from a combination of carefully specified materials.

Elipson Alpha 100 RIAA review

Elipson’s Alpha 100 RIAA must have been designed in the France you see in films.

Sleek, sexy, draped all in black – it would drink coffee with a cigarette permanently between its fingers, were it able.

Build

Oh yes, it’s fair to say we’re positively enamoured with the Alpha 100 RIAA’s understated cool.

Its delicately curved edges and minimalist chassis, with undersized platter and oh-so tactile speed-shift switch, are precisely what we’d like to see in our homes.

Simplicity is the order of the day. The Alpha’s built-in phono stage leaves you needing only to connect it to your amplifier with the supplied cable. The bias weight is already set correctly for its Ortofon OM10 cartridge, too.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV vs 5D Mark III: 21 key differences

Canon has finally confirmed the fourth iteration in its EOS 5D line, the EOS 5D Mark IV. Arguably the most popular DSLR series across the enthusiast/professional spectrum, it blends a handful of expected features with some new technology. We’ve pulled out 21 key differences between the new model and its Mark III predecessor together understand what the new model offers.

5DMkIIIvsMkIVa-650-80

1. New sensor

The EOS 5D Mark III didn’t offer too huge a leap in terms of resolution over the previous Mark II – from 21.1MP to 22.3MP – but the new model ramps things up.

Its 31.7MP sensor outputs images at an effective 30.4MP, and Canon states that this is a brand new design. Once again, its pixels are spread over a full-frame surface area, and a low-pass filter is also included in front of it to prevent aliasing artefacts from affecting images.

Although the company hasn’t gone into any specific details on dynamic range, it also promises the sensor delivers a wide exposure latitude.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Chronograph Skeleton Watch Hands-On

Even at prices around $8,000, the Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Chronograph Skeleton watch is a decent value if you are in the market for a skeletonized chronograph. Skeletonization is popular in mechanical watches these days for good reason. In an age of smartwatches and quartz watches, of course, being able to visually appreciate the mechanics of a traditionally non-electronic watch is appealing. Not just to the wearer themselves, but also to onlookers who view these watches on the wrists of people who wear them.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Chronograph Skeleton Watch Hands-On Hands-On

With that said, skeletonized watches aren’t for everyone. In exchange for an intimate (and decorated) look into a watch movement, you lose in things like legibility and classic appeal. Fully skeletonized watches can be accused of lacking qualities like elegance or calming simplicity. Then again, there are plenty of other watches that offer that. The challenge for any skeletonized watch (and for the most part why they are all different) is two-fold. First is the challenge of being able to artistically show the “story” of the movement in its full mechanical glory while also maintaining a timepiece’s basic functionality – which is being able to view the time (among other things, such as on the Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Chronograph Skeleton that has, obviously, a chronograph).

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV preview: The 30-megapixel monster

Canon has stepped up a gear in recent years by leading with higher resolution cameras. It had long been said that the 22/24-megapixel mark would be the company’s limit until lenses could make best of the capture resolution – a concept that was not just slightly but entirely demolished by the company’s 50.6-megapixel EOS 5DS (and R) DSLRs.

Enter the brand new Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and that resolution trait is, in part, trickling down the range. Not at quite such ultra-high levels, but the Mark IV’s all-new 30-megapixel full-frame sensor is a notable step-up over the previous Mark III’s 22.3-megapixel offering. In 2016, it seems resolution and speed are the key factors holding together the higher-end DSLR market, keeping casual compacts and their mirrorless system camera cousins at bay.

The EOS 5D range has long been known as the enthusiast DSLR, the do-it-all camera. But never the Nikon D810 competitor, which is approaching where the 5D Mark IV is now pitched.

Panasonic TX-58DX902B 4K HDR UHD TV Review : Premium performance at a not-so-premium price

Panasonic TX-58DX902B lifestyle

What is the Panasonic DX902?

The DX902 is Panasonic’s flagship Ultra HD LED LCD TV for 2016 and includes all the features that you’d expect from a high-end 4K model. There’s a full array local dimming backlight with 512 zones and a unique honeycomb structure that is designed to minimise haloing. There’s support for Wider Colour Gamut (WCG), High Dynamic Range(HDR 10) and even active shutter 3D, although you’ll have to buy the glasses separately. There’s also THX and Ultra HD Premiumcertification, a full set of calibration controls, two remotes and Panasonic’s excellent Firefox Smart TV platform.

We reviewed the 65-inch TX-65DX902B at the end of January and were hugely impressed by the performance. However at the time HDRhadn’t been launched yet, so reviewing the 58-inch TX-58DX902B provides the perfect opportunity to see just how good this TV is when it comes to the latest technological innovations. Panasonic have also reduced the price of the range recently and as at the time of writing (August 2016) you can pick up the 58DX902 for just £1,999/$2,998. So if the 58DX902B is as good as its larger sibling, we could be looking at real bargain. Let’s find out…

Canon EOS M5 Mirrorless Camera To Be Announced in Late 2016

Canon is on the verge to launch a new EOS M mirrorless camera by the end of 2016. It will be the EOS M3 successor and expected to have a name as EOS M5.

As we are approaching to the worlds biggest digital imaging show Photokina, there won’t be an announcement related to the EOS M lineup. This means that the show will unveil a new EOS 5 body.

Maybe the mirrorless users from Canon will not have a product update at Photokina. Bu the good news is that we will see a new EOS M camera and a lens announcement in late 2016.

Amazfit review : Excellently designed but needs a lot of work before it’s wrist worthy

The Amazfit activity tracker lives up to its promise of being simple to use and lovely to look at while remaining affordable. It’s clear the team has taken the time to carefully craft a discrete, fashionable device. Where it fails however, is execution. Sleep tracking is confusing and inaccurate. The app remains woefully buggy and takes far too long to sync. Then there’s the huge issue of losing all the data when recharging after the Amazfit’s completely died. All this can hopefully be a relatively quick and easy fix, or at least an update over time. For now the Amazfit is at best, a very promising, fancy pedometer that works – if you don’t care about missing data and a slew of other issues.

Lenovo ThinkPad E460 review – compact classic in the E lineup

The E lineup, part of the ThinkPad family, targets consumers who need a durable and budget device. Lenovo ThinkPad E460 fits namely in this category, and this is why we decided to review it.

You may have read our review of Lenovo ThinkPad E560 (15″) or that of a 2-in-1 ThinkPad representative – Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 460. We were quite happy with these devices in terms of their performance, portability and reliability, and now we can’t wait to test their brother ThinkPad E460.

Weird Egg-Shaped Drone Actually Flies Hands-on Review

What’s that in the sky? It’s a bird! It’s an egg! It’s a…drone! PowerVision’s newest flyer, the PowerEgg, certainly is the most unusual drone I’ve seen, but its odd form follows its function really well. We got a closer look at this ovular-shaped drone, available for $1,288, which will begin shipping in October.

In its storage mode, the PowerEgg looks like, well, a large white egg, or the world’s largest pantyhose container. It’s about the size of a rugby ball, and weighs 4.6 pounds. With the arms closed, the drone measures 10.7 inches long with a diameter of 6.9 inches at its thickest point. With the arms extended, its wingspan is 18.7 inches.

Sony Xperia XR: Rumours, release date and everything you need to know

It might come as a surprise to Sony Mobile fans, but the company’s next flagship isn’t going to be called the Xperia Z6.

We’ve been tracking rumours about Sony’s next flagship handset – formerly known as the Z6 – for some time. Here’s everything we know or think we know about Sony’s future flagship.

The next Sony Xperia flagship is rumoured to be coming in the second half of 2016. The company announced the Xperia X Performance at MWC, featuring flagship specs, improvements on the Xperia Z5 and a luxurious metal design but it wasn’t pitched as the next Xperia flagship, keeping the door open for a Z5 successor.

Overclockers UK Titan Hadron review

Nvidia hasn’t so much shaken up mobile gaming with its desktop-grade Pascal notebook GPUs as turned it completely on its head. The company’s GTX 10-series graphics card have also made a mark in the desktop space, providing an opportunity for system builders to come up with powerful, single-GPU configurations capable of running the best VR games and demanding 4K setups.

Called the Titan Hadron, the latest machine from Stoke, UK-based system builders Overclockers UK promises oodles of gaming grunt, courtesy of Nvidia’sGTX 1060 GPU. But, as we now know, there’s no such thing as a cheap Pascal card.

Even at the mid-range, Nvidia’s card pushes up the Hadron’s price to £1,091/US$1,4453/AUS$1,894, with an offer currently shaving £30/$US40/AUS$52 from the price.

LG OLED55B6V review

LG’s 4K OLED screens have hit the jackpot this year. We’ve loved every screen we’ve come across from its OLED range, from the gorgeous £5000 OLED65E6V to the £2999 OLED55C6V.

Now we come to the LG OLED55B6V, from the most affordable range in LG’s 2016 OLED line-up.

It’s still a fairly expensive TV, but if you’re looking for a great screen that will give you all the technological highlights and streaming features without breaking the bank, this is definitely one for your shortlist.

Design

The LG OLED55B6V looks lovely. An elegant stand design makes it look as though the screen is floating, and there’s barely a bezel surrounding the 55in screen. The square metal stand will fit on any AV rack.

The screen is slim, but if you’re planning on wall-mounting the 55B6V, be aware that the bottom half of the set bulks up to accommodate 40W of amplification, Harman Kardon speakers and all the TV’s connections.
