Revel F36 review

For going on 20 years Revel has been one of the most respected American speaker companies, finding favor with audiophiles and recording industry pros. The company’s selection currently includes a number of high-end towers, such as the Salon2 and Studio2, starting at $16,000 per pair.

Revel-Concerta2-F36-Floorstanding-Speaker

The F36 tower is much more affordable at $2,000, £1,995, AU$3,395 per pair, and it sounds great for the price. It’s an ideal choice for audiophiles craving more resolution and dynamic range scale than you’ll get from smaller and less expensive models.

The F36s we reviewed here — decked out in impeccable, high-gloss white — are big boys. They would probably seem a little smaller in black gloss, the other available finish.

2017 Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 Review: More modern, less muscle

If you’re in the luxury game, the pressure to build high performance editions of almost every model in your line-up is a strong one. Most premium brands pursue volume as aggressively as possible, extending their reach into every conceivable niche to create a balance of both divine (Audi RS7) and strange (BMW X6 M) bedfellows. After replacing its longtime SLK nameplate with the new SLC roadster, Mercedes-Benz turns its hot rodding skills to the 2017Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 and continues its tradition of dumping a big engine in a small car – with a few important twists.

The first being that the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43’s motor is only big when it comes to power, because its down considerably in terms of cylinders and displacement when compared to its SLK55 AMG predecessor. Gone is the rambunctious V8 of years past and in its place is a biturbo 3.0-liter V6 that has been tuned to provide 362 horses and 384 lb-ft of torque. Nice numbers, and good enough to eclipse both the Porsche 718 Boxster S and the BMW Z4, but shy of the 415 ponies and 398 lb-ft twist provided by the 5.5-liter unit it replaces. Purists will also be disappointed to learn that the hand-built, one engineer / one engine philosophy that guided past AMG models is nowhere to be found with the SLC 43, as the drivetrain is pulled off the standard production line before being stuffed into the convertible.

Tizen v Android Wear : Which smartwatch OS is right for you?

It’s fair to say no-one has answered the smartwatch question yet. But in Google’s Android Wear and Samsung’s Tizen OS, we have two very different attempts.

We pit the two operating systems against each other, looking at hardware, compatibility, interface, health and fitness tracking and apps to help you decide which platform to plump for.

Tizen v Android Wear

Tizen v Android Wear: Smartwatches

Features and apps might sway your ultimate decision but your gut feeling on which smartwatch platform to choose will probably be based on the hardware itself. And it feels a bit odd to describe these smartwatches as hardware these days as on both sides, tech companies are doing a much better job of disguising the tech as truly wearable accessories.

On the Tizen side, you have Samsung’s current flagship wearable, the geek chic Samsung Gear S2 to tempt you and the upcoming Gear S3 to look forward to.

Cherry Mobile Cubix Morph Hands-on Review : Unboxing, First Impressions

Cherry Mobile, under their sub-brand Cubix, has updated their convertible line of dual-boot devices. This is the Cubix Morph, a tablet bundled with a keyboard cover that runs both Android and Windows. It was just made available about a few days ago and here’s our initial impression of the tablet fresh from retail shelves.

cubix-morph-philippines-1

The package of the Cubix Morph is pretty standard. You only get the unit that’s already wrapped with its keyboard cover, a DC-in charger, and a few pamphlets. There’s no micro-USB cable and a travel charger included but rest assured, it can be charged through its micro-USB port as well.

The tablet itself is fairly large due to its 10.1-inch IPS LCD sporting a WXGA resolution. That’s 1280 x 800 pixels in a 16:10 aspect. Clearly, a thick bezel borders the device although it helps in handling. A 2MP camera and an LED indicator hide above the display while a capacitive home is placed below.

Kaleidescape Strato 4K Ultra HD Movie Player Reveiw

1724_Large

One of my biggest takeaways from the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show was that 1080p TVs are rapidly going extinct, replaced in nearly every size from 40 to 80 inches by 4K Ultra HD models. This was confirmed at this year’s show, where the only non-4K TVs were outliers in the 90-inch-and-beyond region…or the 8K “visions of the future” that manufacturers displayed to prove they aren’t resting on their laurels.

The problem with 4K, however, remains content. Now that you can get a pretty sweet 55-inch 4K TV in the vicinity of $1,000, what are you going to watch on it? Sure, there’s a smattering of titles on Netflix and Amazon, but streaming 4K isn’t without its own challenges—or compromises, including rather massive data compression. Dish and DirecTV are looking to roll out 4K coverage (DirecTV had the world’s first 4K broadcast of the Masters golf tournament this year) and offer a small amount of pay-per-view content, but this also involves significant compression and very limited selection. Ultra HD Blu-ray is making its way onto the scene, but while picture quality has been mostly hailed as terrific, the current selection of titles has been mostly meh, and many people have sworn off adopting another form of physical media. Furthermore, Ultra HD Blu-ray still comes with all the traditional limitations of disc-based media— the required shelf space, the usual get-up-and-put-it-in-the-player routine, etc. For those looking for the ultimate in picture quality, features, and luxury movie theater performance, Kaleidescape submits the new Strato for approval.

Zenith Heritage Pilot Cafe Racer Spirit Watch Hands-On

In theme, the new Zenith Pilot Type 20 watch for 2016 isn’t truly a pilot watch at all (though it does still say “Pilot” on the dial), but it is now intended to celebrate the cafe racer community. Thus, we have gone from hipster aviators to hipster motorcycle owners. To be honest, the cafe racer connection is the least interesting part of this watch for me, which instead should be celebrated as a fashionable high-end watch from Zenith that adds a nice flavor to their popular Pilot watch collection. So let’s take a closer look at the Zenith Heritage Pilot Cafe Racer Spirit timepiece and what is new about it.

Yamaha RX-A3060 review

Its budget and premium models can often be seen battling it out with rival amps from Denon and Pioneer, with the company often there or thereabouts in the final reckoning.

But already this year, one Yamaha receiver has impressed us in the shape of the five-star, entry-level RX-V581. Will the Yamaha RX-A3060, from higher up the range, prove equally impressive?

Build

Yamaha’s Aventage AV receivers are billed as the high-performance members of the family and their premium status is evident straight out of the box.

Free the Yamaha RX-A3060 from its polystyrene shackles and the amp’s 18kg body gives you a decent workout – the amp’s chassis, legs and frame have been strengthened.

It also features Yamaha’s ART (anti-resonance technology) that takes the form of an extra fifth foot on the bottom of the amp, which Yamaha claims minimises the impact of vibrations on sound quality.

Volkswagen Golf R Estate review: The ultimate fast, all-weather estate

It is sometimes said that a Volkswagen Golf is the car for everyone. But who is everyone? There’s now an electric Golf and a hybrid Golf in among the regular diesel and petrol Golfs, plus a powerful diesel one and a powerful petrol one.

But which powerful petrol Golf? The answer to that question used to be easy – it was called a Golf GTi, and in the latest seventh generation hatchback bodyshell it’s a very fine drive indeed. But in a world of hot hatches that sport as much power as a two-generation-old Ferrari, VW needed something more than a GTi. Step forward the Golf R.

We’ve driven the hatchback Golf R briefly, and liked it a lot. But what if your spatial needs extend a bit beyond a regular 5-door family hatch? Then a Golf estate could be the perfect answer. Thing was, up until recently, if you wanted a Golf estate with much engine power you were rather stuck. But now Volkswagen has put a rocket under the estate version of the car for everyone, by creating the Golf R Estate.

SAMSUNG KS9800 REVIEW

Reviewing TVs used to be a lot easier. Just a few years ago, plasma sets were known for their superior blacks, LEDs were known to be brighter and thinner; and the very best technologies were reserved solely for the flagship models from a select handful of manufacturers. As such, the chasm separating the good from the great was relatively wide and deep. That’s not the case any longer, and it’s made buying a TV just as challenging as reviewing one.

Today we have OLED TVs, FALD (full array local dimming), 4K UHD resolutions, HDR (High Dynamic Range), and WCG (Wide Color Gamut) to think about. I’ve always said you can judge a market’s complexity by the number of acronyms in its lexicon, and as you can see, the world of TVs has gotten pretty complicated.

At least we can still count on flagship TV models to set the high bar, and there is perhaps no better example of this than the Samsung KS9800 series which, while far from flawless, clearly displays the kind of picture quality we should expect in the future.

Riding The 2017 Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight-Powered FL Models Review : More road, more glide

It only took about five minutes mired in rush-hour traffic crawling along the I-94 East heading into downtown Milwaukee for me to appreciate the attributes of the new Milwaukee-Eight-powered touring models I’d spent the earlier part of the day riding at Black Hawk Farms Raceway, a road course located in South Beloit, Illinois.

I was aboard a 2016 Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110B CVO Softail Pro Street Breakout, and the high heat and humidity of a sweltering Midwestern summer day were taking their toll in this stop-and-go procession. Not only were my inner thighs on fire, but my left forearm had also begun to scream due to the factory hot rod’s high-effort clutch pull. I now truly understood the greatest attributes of the all-new Milwaukee-Eight powertrain and am happy to report that the new 107ci 2017 Big Twin models have thoroughly addressed these issues and more while delivering 110ci-level engine performance.

Devolo WiFi AC Repeater Review

What is the Devolo WiFi ac Repeater?

The Devolo WiFi ac Repeater (£49/$74) is a fairly inexpensive device for removing those nasty WiFi black spots that most homes seem to be plagued with. It offers speeds up to 1200Mbps with dual band 802.11ac, a Gigabit Ethernet port and a range of easy setup options including WPS. If you’ve already tried Powerline Adapters and find you just can’t get on with them due to old house wiring or interference, then a WiFi Repeater is probably the next easiest device to try and solve those network issues.

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Devolo WiFi AC Repeater Review

There is nothing worse than trying to stream a film, only for it to start buffering at the crucial moment. If you happen to live in a house that appears to have been purposely built to defeat even the strongest of WiFi connections or just want to increase coverage to another room, then the Devolo WiFi ac Repeater could be for you. We’ve reviewed several WiFi repeaters in the past and found whilst they do extend coverage, the speed is not really anything to write home about. So read on to see how this new device with its claimed increase to 1200Mbps speeds gets on in our tests…

ASUS ZenFone Go (ZC500TG) quick review – low price and many ASUS features

Kết quả hình ảnh cho ASUS ZenFone Go (ZC500TG)

This time we are not reviewing one of the latest smartphones because we thought that this publication might appeal to users who are on a budget. We are talking about ASUS ZenFone Go (ZC500TG), which is one of the best deals in the low-end market segment. The model offers the traditional for the Taiwanese company design and some very decent specs.

Of course, we must not forget that this price range has a lot of competitors such as Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016), which we recently reviewed. The current article, however, is dedicated to ASUS ZenFone Go (ZC500TG). Actually, ZenFone Go has another cheaper and newer version but we decided to discuss the more interesting (in our opinion) model that comes with a 5-inch IPS HD display, quad-core processor, and an 8MP main camera. Of course, this is not all that this phone has to offer, so if you want to learn more about it, this is the right place – read on.

GeForce GTX 1070 (Laptop) vs 970M, 980M, GTX 980 (Laptop) and GTX 1070 (Desktop) – benchmarks and gaming tests review

This year’s NVIDIA mobile GPUs are deliberately named after their desktop counterparts and miss the M at the back. And the reason is obvious, NVIDIA wants you to believe that they’ve finally closed the performance gap between two form factors – mobile and desktop. However, as our gaming and synthetic benchmarks show, this isn’t exactly true. There’s a little more way to go but it’s closer than ever and definitely closer than Maxwell was.

Kết quả hình ảnh cho GeForce GTX

Put side by side, both variants seem almost identical but small details make the whole difference. For instance, the mobile GTX 1070 features a tad more CUDA cores and Texture Mapping Units (TMUs) than the desktop version (2048 vs 1920 and 170 vs 120 for CUDA and TMU respectively) but its core is clocked slightly lower – 1443 – 1645 MHz vs 1506 – 1683 MHz. The latter probably makes the biggest difference in the testing. But, on the other hand, when we did a short stress test of the mobile GPU, GPU-Z didn’t register clock rates above 1556 MHz so the pre-production sample not utilizing the full potential of the graphics card might also have to do with the tests’ outcome.

Hands on: Nexbox T9 Mini PC review

It’s safe to say that the mini PC market is, well, very busy at the moment. There are dozens of models currently available with almost the same configuration and almost the same form factor.

And we’ve reviewed quite a few of them in the last few months (the Vorke V1, the Voyo V3, and the Beelink BT7 – the latter two are pictured with the T9 in the image below) but there are far more out there.

We called in the NexBox T9 to check out what the cheapest 4GB/64GB box on the market looks like. The product costs £92 ($116) at online retailer Gearbestbut that’s subject to exchange rate fluctuations.

The price includes delivery but excludes VAT and potential handling fees, which may add another 25%. The device is not available from eBay or Amazon at the time of writing. Before you commit to any purchase, it’s well worth checking out our guide to buying tech from online Chinese retailers.

Loudspeakers belong in your living room. They aren’t, commonly, strapped to your head. French audio experts Focal think that’s all wrong, and believe that loudspeakers, or at least the audio experience provided by them, should be available from a set of really excellent headphones. It took four years to realize, but now we have the Focal Utopia, a set of beautiful headphones packed with industry-first technology, to caress your eardrums with the sounds usually only associated with a sizable set of floor standers.

“It’s hard to listen to a piece of music in a room, then get the same vivid experience using headphones,” Focal said at CanJam London 2016, where Utopia received its European unveiling. “You miss the thump in the chest. The presence.” To replicate this, Focal used an entirely new manufacturing process to come up with a pioneering full-range 40mm driver, coupled with an M-shape dome made of Beryllium, that is capable of producing both low and high frequencies. Focal says this low-mass, high-rigidity material has 2.5 times the sound velocity  and 37 times the rigidity of titanium, and the resulting frequency response is 5Hz to 50kHz.

Essentially this version sees the Blue Oval brand offer buyers the opportunity to add a few new parts to the Fiesta ST in order to boost performance. More performance from the Fiesta ST? Yeah!

What is Mountune, then? It’s a UK-based company that specialises in race engines and performance upgrades. And what they’ve done here is very much in the bracket of a performance upgrade. Beware – things are about to get a bit geeky.

5 Reasons You’d Be a Fool to Buy a MacBook Now

If you’ve been thinking about upgrading to a new MacBook, there’s never been a worse time to buy than right now. With the exception of the underpowered 12-inch MacBook, which was just refreshed last spring, Apple’s notebooks haven’t been updated in years. We expect the company to announce a new laptop lineup within the next few weeks, complete with a host of long-awaited improvements. If you buy a MacBook in the interim, you’re boarding the express train to buyer’s remorse. Here’s why.

apple-macbook-pro-LEAD

1. The current MacBooks are extremely outdated.

If you’re like most people, you’re going to hold onto your laptop for three to five years (or even longer), unless it breaks. If you buy a MacBook that’s long-in-the-tooth today, it will have a giant overbite when you’re still using it as your daily driver in 2019.

Now, think back to spring 2015. Uptown Funk topped the charts, Furious 7 was No. 1 at the box office and Apple offered its most recent and very minor MacBook updates.

Suzuki SV650 vs. Yamaha FZ-07 Comparison

Suzuki’s SV650 was considered by many to be the king of the naked middleweights. For us at Motorcyclist, the SV was certainly the king of our motoring hearts in its heyday. First introduced in 1999, this Japanese twist on a Ducati Monster quickly became a sweetheart for beginners and intermediate riders alike thanks to its low price, great handling, and feisty V-twin engine. Even to this day the SV650 is a relevant roadracing option, in part because the surge of popularity created SV-based classes around the country that are still alive.

Goodmans Heritage II Connect review

Remember when radios were just radios? You’d turn them on, twiddle a knob and, out of the static, voices and music would emerge. We’ve come a long way since then.

Take the Goodmans Heritage II Connect, for example: it may look like an old fashioned wireless, but it’s got more in common with a modern all-in-one hi-fi.

It’ll deliver your radio, of course, but it does so via FM, DAB and internet radio. It can stream and play all of the music on your home network, too, and you can play tunes from your phone using Bluetooth – you can even pair the two devices via NFC.

Naim NAC-N 272 review

There are only two things you need to know about the Naim NAC-N 272: it’s a fully featured streaming preamp and it sounds lovely.

We could conclude what would be the shortest review in What Hi-Fi?’s 40-year history right here, but that would leave us a rather blank page, so let us elaborate.

Streaming preamp? This may not seem particularly special. After all there isn’t a shortage of music streamers that also have a volume control. The NAC-N 272 isn’t like most of them though.

It uses a fully analogue preamp section, much like the designs seen in Naim’s more upmarket offerings, so performance through the analogue inputs – one DIN and two RCAs – has the potential to be really good.

Most rivals tend to prioritise the digital circuits, leaving the quality of the analogue section distinctly second best. That certainly isn’t the case here.

How to Uninstall and Restore Windows 10’s Built-in Apps

Windows 10 comes with a bunch of apps that you may find useful, and a few you will probably never need. Unfortunately, Windows 10 doesn’t want you to uninstall Universal apps such as Money, Maps and People. But that doesn’t mean you can’t use a little ingenuity to delete them.

First, though, think before you uninstall these apps, as removing Bing News might cripple Cortana’s ability to deliver you stories, and removing Alarms and Clock might break the digital assistant’s ability to set reminders.
