Jabra Elite Sport (2017) review: The best wire-free earphones money can buy?

There’s no denying it, the age of the wire-free earphones is here, almost to the point of becoming an established norm. While we can thank Apple AirPods for stoking the fire and assisting with enabling this mass-market position, there are lots of other interesting competitors out there too.

One of 2016’s best efforts was the Jabra Elite Sport – “the AirPods you really want”, we said – and for 2017 it’s time for round two, with a fresh colour scheme and even better performance.

The 2017 Elite Sport offer an improved battery life, but retain the durable design and portability of the original wireless in-ears. As the more-than-paraphrased age-old saying goes: “if it ain’t broke, just make it last longer”.

Samsung Notebook 9 Pro (15-inch) review

Anyone thinking of getting into the laptop business should consider one piece of advice. Take at least one product in your lineup and call it the Pro model.

It’s an idea that’s worked well for years. Apple has the MacBook Pro, which helped define the “pro” computer. Microsoft has the Surface Pro, which remains the king of the tablet PCs, and now Samsung has a higher-end version of it’s excellent Notebook 9 series, called the Notebook 9 Pro.

Samsung Notebook 9 Pro

Samsung’s Pro version of the Notebook 9 is feature-packed.

We recently reviewed the 15-inch non-Pro version of the Notebook 9, and in truth those two models are very similar. Both cost around the same, within $100 or so, both combine Intel Core i7 processors with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. Both have decent 1,920×1,080-pixel displays (although one could argue a 15-inch premium laptop deserves a higher screen resolution), and both include low-end discrete graphics. The Notebook 9 has an Nvidia 940MX, while the Notebook 9 Pro has an AMD Radeon 540.

Entry-level DSLRs compared: Canon EOS Rebel SL2 vs Nikon D3400

The entry-level DSLR segment is traditionally highly competitive, and dominated by two big names: Canon and Nikon. With Canon’s new Rebel EOS SL2 just hitting dealers’ shelves, we’ve compared it against one of its main competitors – the Nikon D3400.

Entry-level DSLRs compared: Canon EOS Rebel SL2 vs. Nikon D3400

Sensor

Twenty four megapixels is becoming a pretty standard resolution for entry-level and midrange DSLRs, but despite the identical pixel count, the sensors in the Nikon D3400 and Canon EOS Rebel SL2 are quite different. Most significantly, the Canon’s sensor is slightly smaller. This means that it introduces a slightly more aggressive crop factor of 1.6X, compared to 1.5X from the D3400.

Crop Factor

Should you care about this? That depends. We expect image quality from both cameras to be broadly similar for most shooting, but the increased crop factor may be relevant to you, especially if you enjoy shooting with ultra-wideangle or very long lenses.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 review

When talking trucks, performance always comes first. These are practical machines, and so tow ratings and cargo capacity are the most crucial figures — but that’s no longer enough. Today’s truck needs to haul people just as well as it hauls cargo while providing plenty of modern comforts and conveniences along the way.

In those regards, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 might just have the competition licked. Look at the numbers and you’ll see the Chevy can tow more than any of its half-ton competition, but it wasn’t until we lived with the truck for a few days that we realized this thing’s real charm isn’t its figures, it’s in the near-faultless ride quality.

Looking the part

As you’d expect, you can configure your 1500 10 ways to Sunday, but if you’re looking for an understated yet bad-ass visual effect, you might consider the Z71 Redline edition that you see pictured here. With this, everything from the bowtie on the grille up front to the wheels at all four corners has been blacked out, with red lines painted all over the place to give a bit of visual flair — red lines everywhere but on the tachometer, curiously.

Lenovo ThinkPad Comparison : X1 Carbon vs X1 Yoga

Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga are two of the best premium laptops you can buy. Though they are business notebooks, you don’t need to be a Fortune 500 CEO to appreciate either system’s long battery life, colorful display or sleek, sexy chassis.

HMLTP_lenovo_thinkpadx1_yoga_LEAD
A reader named Gilad recently messaged me to ask which of these premium notebooks to buy. So here’s a detailed comparison between the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga, both of which I’ve tested.

Use Case

The first and most obvious difference between the X1 Carbon and the X1 Yoga is that the latter is a bendback 2-in-1 that can convert into tent, tablet or stand modes, while the former is a clamshell only. If you definitely want a 2-in-1, you can stop reading here, because you have to get the X1 Yoga. And if you don’t like 2-in-1s, your search is also over, because the X1 Carbon is the logical choice.

Cloudfone Excite Prime 2 Unboxing, Hands-on Review : First Impressions

Cloudfone has released the awaited sequel to the Excite Prime smartphone called the Excite Prime 2, sporting a more premium look with added hardware that boasts to be better than the competition. Here’s your first look at the device.

Inside the box are the usual contents of a retail unit — the phone itself, a USB cable, a charging adapter, a clear jelly case, a screen protector, a pair of Cloudfone-branded earphones (hey, doesn’t this remind you of those Spotify earphones from before?) and extra silicone earbud tips, and manuals.

Looking at the device from the get-go makes you realize that the Excite Prime has evolved into something different from last year. The front has the usual sensors, the eight-megapixel front camera with an accompanying LED Flash and the 5.5-inch display. The navigational buttons are still on-screen and the chin helps when holding the phone in a landscape position for gaming.

Teclast Tbook 10 S review

When manufacturers compete on price, the only winners are the customers.

Just over a decade ago, when Android was still in its infancy and Apple had just launched the iPhone, Asus debuted the Eee PC 701, a tiny computer that gave rise to the first true wave of affordable mobile computers.

wymwgduKdQopEG5ad9THdV-650-80

Compact, portable, hackable and cheap, it was like almost nothing else before it and triggered a voracious appetite for light and then thin-and-light laptops.

Fast forward to 2017 and we have the Teclast Tbook 10 S, a 2-in-1 convertible tablet PC which is, in some fashion, the spiritual child of the first Eee PC.

The Tbook 10 S is part of a new generation of devices which have been designed, built and sold by Chinese manufacturers like Teclast, cutting out any middlemen and delivering outstanding value-for-money to the end user – although this comes at a (hidden) price.

iOS 11 Camera Guide: All the New Features and How to Use Them

If the update to the iPhone’s built-in Camera app as part of last year’s iOS 10 overhaul focused on enhancing photographic creativity, iOS 11 expands the camera app’s mission to achieve more intelligent and versatile photos than ever before.

iOS 11’s take on the Camera app aims to give you the ability to shoot and store more and better photos on your iPhone without running out of space by adopting a new shooting format for photos and videos.

You can immediately plunge into the Camera app directly from iOS 11’s Control Center to zero in on the shot you want to take: with a 3D Touch-capable iPhone, you can hard press on the Camera icon and you can choose among a selfie, video recording, slow-motion video or a standard photo. Upgrades to the camera’s filters and tons of tiny tweaks make the Camera app exceptionally interesting and highly functional, compared to earlier versions of iOS.

Asus TUF X299 Mark 1 Motherboard Review

The release of the X299 platform means we have lovely new motherboards to drool over. Much has been said about the X299 platform. While the CPUs tend to run hot and chew a lot of power, there’s no doubt they are very capable performance wise, but with core counts all the way up to the 18 core 7980XE, and power demands to match, your choice of accompanying motherboard is more important than ever. Reliability is always a key consideration and if you want reliability, then you’ll be taking a good hard look at Asus’ TUF series.

Here for review we have the Asus X299 TUF Mark 1. At first glance, you might think its just another motherboard with an extra layer of marketing, but Asus has put their money where their mouth is. The TUF Mark 1 has an industry leading five year warranty, which is no small thing. Excellent!

Samsung Note 8 vs Samsung Note 7: What Changed?

The ill-fated Note 7

I’ve been a Samsung Galaxy Note fan ever since it the first generation device was first launched several years ago. I’ve owned every iteration since with the exception of the explosive Galaxy Note 7. Suffice to say I’m pretty stoked and excited to own the newest generation and hopefully “explosion-free” Galaxy Note 8 when it launches later this month in New York.

As expected, the specifications of the Galaxy Note 8 have already been leaked and we can already see what are the significant changes compared to it’s ill-fated predecessor. Let’s go through the key differences one by one.

Best Bluetooth Speakers for the Beach 2017

If you’re looking for the best Bluetooth Speakers for the beach, you’re in the right place.

Enjoying music on the beach and outdoors once required people to take all their music equipment, cables and more with them.

They also had to be extra careful about water splashes and dust, while limited power options meant they needed extra batteries.

But that’s not the case anymore thanks to advancements in technology. Now, all we need is a Bluetooth speaker that lets us take our music everywhere.

New Ford Fiesta & Seat Ibiza vs Skoda Fabia

Remember 2008? The financial crisis was in full swing, Barack Obama was elected US president and Usain Bolt cleaned up at the Beijing Olympics.

It was also the last time that the Ford Fiesta wasn’t number one in the sales charts. Ford’s small hatchback has positively smashed its rivals ever since, finding its way onto more than a million driveways.

Few would bet against this new version continuing that remarkable run, but success in the sales charts doesn’t guarantee victory in a What Car? group test.

This isn’t a popularity contest; it’s about being the best car on a purely objective level, which is going to be incredibly tough for the Fiesta, given the strength of the competition.

Its main hurdle would appear to be the Skoda Fabia. Our current favourite small car and a former What Car? Car of the Year, it has seen off countless challengers since its launch in 2014 and remains staggeringly good value for money – even in the range-topping Monte Carlo form we have here.

Best tough cameras for the summer holidays

You can drop them, submerge them… you can even take pictures with them. Michael Topham compares four compacts that are perfect for summer holidays

If you think your smartphone is good enough to capture the best bits of your summer holiday, think again. Not all of them feature a tough, rugged or waterproof design like the best tough cameras, and dropping them in the sand, or worse, the pool, could leave you with a costly repair or replacement bill when you get home.

Over the years, we’ve seen camera manufacturers introduce tough models into their compact ranges and they remain hugely popular with those who’d like to take photographs off limits and capture images in situations that would otherwise wreck a smartphone or standard digital camera. Their robust designs and weather seals allow you to take them into a pool without a second thought, and better still, they’re made to be virtually indestructible so you can hand them over to kids without worrying about any damage.

Lenovo Flex 5 (15-Inch) Review

With the popularity of 15-inch laptops and bend-back 2-in-1 notebooks, it’s surprising that we so rarely see one as affordable as the 15-inch Flex 5 1570 (starts at $699, tested at $1,099). But while we love its bright, colorful display and comfy keyboard, we wish it lasted longer on a charge and that its bottom didn’t heat up during use. However, if you want to consume media and stay productive on an affordable 2-in-1, the Flex 5 (15-inch) is a strong option.

Design

The Flex 5 convinced me that little design tweaks make all the difference. The Onyx Black lid sports an aluminum finish that catches the light, which bounces off the machine’s shiny, razor-thin, bevelled edges. The dark-gray deck and underside give this 2-in-1 a classy two-tone look you don’t see that often.

ASUS Zenfone AR: 5 reasons you want this phone

The ASUS Zenfone AR is officially available to buy from Verizon, and you may be considering picking one up yourself. If you’re still on the fence, take note: there’s a lot to like about this phone, which was first launched back during CES 2017 (hands-on here). As its name suggests, this phone brings with it augmented reality capabilities, but what, exactly, does the phone offer to make it so appealing? Here are five key things.

Tango

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/jZ6fNGdvzRo”]

The Zenfone AR’s most notable selling point is its inclusion of Tango, an augmented reality technology from Google that brings virtual elements onto the real world. While the Zenfone AR brings the physical hardware necessary to make Tango possible, such as the TriCam listed below, Tango utilizes it to perform things like depth perception and object motion tracking.

The Top 20 Loudest Bluetooth Speakers of 2017

Here are the top 20 loudest bluetooth speakers of 2017 that deliver some serious audio performance when it comes to thumping bass and volume output. These best Bluetooth speakers feature some of the most powerful audio drivers ever designed and engineered, pumping out tonnes of audio juice at extraordinary volumes with minimum distortion and with crystal clarity. We were super impressed by the audio performance of these incredible bluetooth speakers, especially some of which are now selling at jaw-dropping discounts this season. We also feature the loudest and most advanced Bluetooth speaker ever created – the Devialet Phantom – at #10. Be sure to check out the list of loudest bluetooth speakers of 2017 below!

#1 VAVA Voom Premium Portable Bluetooth Speaker

VAVA Voom Loudest Bluetooth Speakers
The VAVA Voom Premium is one of the loudest bluetooth speakers you can find in the market. Compared to many other bluetooth speakers we’ve heard over the years, this rates up near the top for sound quality, build quality, features and appearance. If you are looking for a cheaper option to more expensive brands such as the Bose SoundLink Mini and the Creative Soundblaster Roar, you will definitely be blown away by the performance of the VAVA Voom.

These loudest bluetooth speakers feature powerful and dynamic audio with two 5W drivers, two passive radiators, a 10W subwoofer, plus aptX technology for sublime audio performance. It also comes with a decent handsfree feature for your smartphone, and has EQ with three settings: standard, party and surround. The VAVA Voom supports wireless streaming, and you can use Wifi to play and wirelessly stream music at all times. The super long lasting battery provides 10 hours of music playtime, keeping this loud bluetooth speaker powered from dawn to dusk.

We were seriously not expecting a speaker at this price to sound as good as this one does. It had solid bass and clear mids and highs in the “Standard” EQ mode. A very good balance of sound. When certain music is played in the “Party” EQ mode, the bass is more pronounced and very punchy. Not all music will sound better in the party mode. In fact, some bass-heavy-to-begin-with music will sound worse in party mode simply because the sound will become too bass heavy and muddled. The Surround EQ mode is magical when certain types of music are played. If you sit a few feet away from the speaker you will be immersed in sound that seems to be coming from all directions. It’s like being in a concert hall.

VAVA Voom Loudest Bluetooth Speakers

Finally, the design and appearance of the VAVA Voom is superb. It comes with a full-wrap-around metal grill with all the controls on the top. The buttons are flush with the top and sculpted. Your finger goes “into” the button a little bit and there is no doubt that you are pressing a button as opposed to some speakers that either have “touch” surfaces or rubberized membranes over the actual buttons that feel indistinct when pressed.

The Verdict? The VAVA Voom is one of the loudest bluetooth speakers you can find at this price range, is superbly well-build and very solid, and produces surprisingly good sound. Given the sound that this bluetooth speaker produces, we have no doubt that this is a high quality product – even with the parts on the inside and outside, everything is well done and top-notch. At the time of writing, theVAVA Voom is now selling at a very good price with free shipping, so don’t forget to snap it up fast while the price is low!

#2 Cambridge SoundWorks OontZ Angle 3XL

Cambridge SoundWorks OontZ Angle 3XL

The Cambridge SoundWorks OontZ Angle 3XL is specially designed to produce really big sound. It comes equipped with a powerful 40W driver and AMP, delivering 20 Watts RMS of pure authority. This is by far one of the loudest bluetooth speakers on this list – it’s loud enough to fill even large rooms with high quality sound, and is perfect for parties playing outdoors, at the pool or at the beach. The sound quality is quite exceptional – the speaker produces high quality sound using two large 2.75” precision drivers and two custom 13mm tweeters designed to deliver precise clear highs and distinct mids. The OontZ Angle 3XL also has 3 passive bass radiators; 1 passive bass radiator is rear facing behind its own grille and 2 passive bass radiators are side facing which you can see pushing the bass. We have no doubt that this is one of the loudest bluetooth speakers ever designed.

We found that this speaker gets extremely loud – so loud that you literally rock your entire home into a disco party with this beast. This speaker pumps out some serious volume and it is very, very loud and even when you set it to a lower volume setting, this speaker is louder than most Bluetooth speakers we have tested. The sound performance is phenomenal – it is rich, clean, the bass is perfect and tight. The speaker emphasises the highs and mids well, and produces crisp treble with crystal clear vocals. The fun thing about this speaker is that if you want even more volume, you can combine two 3XL speakers with the dual pairing feature. If you are looking for even more volume and stereo sound, this dual pairing function is something to strongly consider. Note that one speaker is already damn loud, and two of these paired would be outrageous.

Cambridge SoundWorks OontZ Angle 3XL

The OontZ Angle 3XL is a beautifully crafted speaker and looks aesthetically appealing. It’s very well made and has a stylish angular design without any sharp edges. Furthermore, the speaker is built to be water-resistant to protect against splashes and rain – it’s IPX5 certified which means it will resist gentle water spray and splashes, but cannot be partially or fully submerged.

The great thing about this speaker is that it contains a USB power bank so you can charge your iphone or mobile device while playing. At 70% volume this speaker can pump out up to 8 hours of battery time. It also has a built-in mic for personal speakerphone for phone calls. Connecting to this speaker via Bluetooth is extremely easy – just turn on the speaker and search for it on your Bluetooth device and connect it. You can also connect to this speaker with an included 3.5mm audio cable. Included in the package is a single OontZ Angle 3XL speaker, 1 dual voltage power adaptor, 3.5mm audio cable, 1 quick start sheet and user guide.

The Verdict? The OontZ Angle 3XL is one of the loudest bluetooth speakers you can find at exceptional value, and at the time of writing is selling at an awesome 56% discount. This speaker is specifically designed to go extremely loud and connect seamlessly with your bluetooth device. The sound performance is truly phenomenal and you get deep bass with crisp highs and mids. If you enjoy full sound and powerful bass, we guarantee that this speaker will exceed your expectations. It’s without a doubt one of the loudest bluetooth speakers you can find at a bargain price.

#3 Sharkk Boombox Bluetooth Speaker

Sharkk Loudest Bluetooth Speakers

The Sharkk Boombox is hands down one of the loudest bluetooth speakers in terms of size to weight ratio, and produces booming clear sound with some of the best audio performance we have ever seen for a portable speaker of this size. The Sharkk Boombox is equipped with two 5W loudspeakers and delivers up to 10 Watts of clean, dynamic sound with a sleek design that blends into almost any environment – the speaker weighs a mere 1.8 pounds so you can take it virtually anywhere to play your favorite soundtracks. The Boombox is also equipped with built-in sensors which automatically illuminate the buttons so you can play and pause, adjust the volume and adjust the phone calls. You can also connect your iPhone or Android device via the Bluetooth 4.0 or NFC, with a great connection range of up to 30 feet. The battery life on the Sharkk Boombox is incredible and on a full charge the battery will last for 18 hours of playtime.

The sound quality of the Sharkk Boombox is incredible. The speaker has two, 5W 50mm speaker drivers with a passive bass radiator in the back. This speaker can get incredibly loud – when we tested this speaker at 50% volume, it filled the room with sound with clear sound and the sound does not distort even at near maximum volume. The bass that this speaker produces is clean, powerful and punchy, and is enhanced by the passive bass radiator which produces a decent amount of passive bass. Although this cannot be compared with the bass from a dedicated subwoofer, the bass is still very impressive coming from a speaker of this size.

Apart from good bass, the speaker produces rich mids and incredibly crisp highs – we were very impressed that so much quality sound was coming from these speakers. The audio performance on classic rock felt smooth and buttery throughout, with decent separation and very clean, crystal clear sound. You can really hear the details in the music from each soundtrack and the overall sound performance is quite breath-taking. The sound on these speakers can also get incredibly loud – loud enough to entertain your guests at a mid-size party. Overall, we were highly impressed with the sound quality and performance of the Sharkk Boombox.

The build quality of the Sharkk Boombox is excellent. The metal is nice and clean, and looks sleek and classy from almost every angle. The plastics on the top and bottom of the speaker are sturdy, solid and durable. The buttons have great feedback and a nice tactile feel. The speaker also has rubber ‘feet’ on the bottom of the speakers to keep it from sliding or vibrating around at maximum volume – every single aspect of the build quality is meticulously thought out and well designed. We also liked the metallic speaker vents which gave this a very stunning overall appearance.

The speaker is designed to be portable and versatile. It also comes with an incredible rechargeable battery that delivers up to 18 hours of playtime. The speaker is also easy to set up and pair with almost any Bluetooth enabled device. It also features helpful voice prompts to help guide you through the speaker’s different modes and settings, and also supports near field communication to allow you to access Siri or Android Voice seamlessly. It also supports connection to external media with an integrated AUX cable connection.

The Verdict? The Sharkk Boombox is hands down one of the loudest bluetooth speakers you can find that is compact, portable, features a solid 18 hours of battery life and now available at a budget price. The speaker has two 5 Watt speakers which pump out incredibly detailed and crisp music, and sound really good. The Sharkk Boombox has the ability to go extremely loud and yet maintain the same level of sound performance as you would expect from a high quality bluetooth speaker. The speaker also uses Bluetooth 4.0 technology and will connect to virtually almost any bluetooth enabled device to play your favorite soundtracks. We were highly impressed with the sound performance of the Sharkk Boombox and we highly recommend them.

#4 Anker Premium Stereo Bluetooth 4.0 Speaker

Anker Premium loudest bluetooth speakers
If you are looking for a high performance Bluetooth speaker at a cheaper price, the Anker Premium 4.0 Bluetooth Speaker is definitely something to be reckoned with. It produces huge stereo sound – you can enjoy crisp, clear audio with impressive volume powered by dual ten-watt drivers. The combined 20W output is the highest available in this price range. It also features MaxxBass technology and two passive subwoofers for enhanced bass performance, allowing you to hear the soaring highs and deep lows of all your favorite tracks.

Compared to the more expensive Bose Mini SoundLink option, the two devices have much in common, having a similar shape and aesthetic. The Anker is about an inch wider (still delightfully portable), but they share the curved appearance. From a functional perspective they are identical – they do the core functions brilliantly, but don’t offer microphones or NFC features for example. Bluetooth performance is quick, and set up is simplistic (on an iPhone 6 in this instance). Battery life is pretty much identical.

Where are savings made? Well the Anker is a plastic case (albeit a lovely, robust one), with a fabric speaker cover, rather than the fully-aluminium Bose. There is no docking station. There is no charger plug, just a USB cable (and a 3.5mm jack). You can charge from and USB socket. If you have a limited budget, then the Anker Soundcore Boost would be a good choice for under $100 (you can see more low-cost options in this cheap bluetooth speakers review).

Anker Premium loudest bluetooth speakers

But when it comes to sound, the Anker really holds its own. It has great bass for such a small device and feel really sharp. When you ratchet them both up max, we reckon the Bose gets a bit louder, but we have never taken the volume to that level under normal circumstances. But in a blind test with friends, at normal volume, it was pretty much fifty-fifty.

So, yes, the Bose is the more ‘complete’ device, but it’s nearly four times as expensive. Pound for pound, the Anker definitely wins it – the money has gone where it matters, in making it sound phenomenal. It retains a real sense of physical quality – it feels heavy, and the buttons are reassuringly when you press them. The rechargeable battery provides up to 8 hours of music and playtime – you can play up to 160 songs at 50% volume before needing to recharge. The compact size is also a definitely added plus. It is truly one of the loudest bluetooth speakers for speakers at this size range.

The Verdict? The Anker Premium is an impressive and one of the loudest bluetooth speakers at this price range. It is stylishly designed with an impressive battery life and will give its competition a good run, not to mention for half or three times less the price.

#5 G-Project G-BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Boombox Speaker

G-Project G-BOOM loudest bluetooth speakers

The G-Project G-Boom is one of the loudest bluetooth speakers and Boombox-designed speakers that is absolutely amazing. It is truly an award-winning speaker with top-notch sound performance. This is the very speaker which Mashable rated as “sweet, with clean highs and pleasant-sounding midrange mixed together with that substantial bottom to create the best sound I’ve ever heard out of a unit costing a more c-note”. Furthermore, this Bluetooth speaker is built like a tank with rugged housing, protective rubber base and an integrated handle for easy carrying. The sound on the G-Boom is unbeatably loud with its incredibly powerful 10W x 2 3 inch woofers and two 1 inch tweeters. It comes with a rechargeable battery which allows up to 6 hours of on-the-go playtime.

The audio performance out of the G-Boom was sublime. The speaker sounded very clean and vivid, and has a very good command of highs, mids and lows to form a well-balanced blend of music. You can a lot of audio clarity with these speakers, such as bass in a voice, or the vibration of a guitar strum, and of course the impact in drums. We were highly impressed that a lunchbox shaped speaker which costs only $99 would be able to sound just as full as most anything in its price point and speakers costing twice as much.

Why it beats everything out there is the sum of all of its parts. It’s built like a rank. G project really did there homework with this speaker as it is rugged and the speakers are high quality at a $99 price this speakers a steal. What also sets it apart is it has tweeters and it plays the vocals at higher frequency and smoothness than any small speaker can even hope to match. This speaker can play any kind of music with clarity and punchy mids, and the low end is also present. More present than anything in its class can reach. We definitely had a lot of fun listening to this speaker and it sounds better than most out there, and does it with a rugged exterior that can stand up to any environment you bring it to.

The Verdict? The G-Boom might just be the winner for the loudest bluetooth speaker under $99 bucks. It produces real sound that is natural and able to fill a room with ease. For the $100 category – this is probably by far the best thing we have listened to. Although not perfect, it is really good. If you are looking for a superbly high performing loud bluetooth speaker with thumping bass, this unit is exactly what you need.

#6 The TaoTronics Boom X

TaoTronics Boom X

#10 The Devialet Phantom, 750 Watts (White)

Devialet Phantom loudest bluetooth speakers

The Devialet Phantom is probably one of the most expensive, powerful and futuristic audio device we have reviewed. It is by far one of the loudest bluetooth speakers in its own category – and by its own category we mean 750 Watts of pure energy, although Devialet developed a more powerful 3000 Watt version which can pump out a massive 105 db. Listening to the Phantom for the first time was for us, quite an amazing experience we would not forget. The manufacturers claim that the Phantom emits the best sound in the world, with a unique physical impact. With no distortion at high volumes, no saturation, no background noise – the Devialet Phantom truly lives up to its name as a master piece of audio technology.

The Phantom speakers look very futuristic. These simply do not look like the classic speaker-box design. They just appear like they were just beamed in from a Starwars stellarship or something. They come in a strong and very nice designed box. Opening the box is a little party in itself: when you fold the box open sideways, the Phantom stands there on a little platform. Well thought out. The speaker itself is a little heavy. When you hold one this makes it very clear: this is serious, high quality equipment!

The Phantom speakers are very easy to setup. You place them on a sturdy platform or sidetable. Then you install the ‘Spark’ app on your iPhone or iPad (most Android devices are also supported). Then something magic will happen: when you touch each of the Phantoms, they start to make some ambient breathing sound and their ‘ears’ will move a little. They really come to life! Next is that you swipe some speaker icons in the Spark app according to your needs: 1 to the left, 1 to the right. Then you’re ready to go.

Devialet Phantom loudest bluetooth speakers

When it came down to sound performance, we were initially surprised by the really good sound quality. The Phantom emits an ultra-dense sound with physical impact with no distortion from 16hz to 25khz. The bass goes deep down and is rich and full but never rumbling. The mids are clear and well defined. Highs are excellent. This is a speaker which can easily compete with systems that are much more expensive. Although the Phantoms do cost some serious money, they perform well above what we expected. We have listened to some nice high-end setups over time. The Phantom is easily one of the best of these and by far not among the most expensive.

What really stands out from the Phantom is that the sound is very realistic. A voice really sounds as if someone is singing in my very own room. Guitars, drums, piano’s, strings – everything is just so realistic. We would also mention that to a certain degree this would depend on the quality of the recording. Phantom is very enjoyable late in the evening when other people are asleep and you tune them down. They really come to life at moderate volumes. And they will almost blow you away when you play them loud (there is no need to go for the 3000watts version unless you live in a really big room).

The Verdict? If you are an audiophile looking for one of the loudest bluetooth speakers at this high-end range, we can really recommend the Phantom system due to the incredible design and sound quality. The volume can go VERY loud and produces very well defined sound. We absolutely loved the futuristic look, deep bass, heavy, unique sound, good customer support, and realistic omnidirectional sound.   The Phantoms cuts through all of this in one purchase. The audio stream, if you use the Devialet software, is done digitally perfect straight to the Phantom system. The audio performance of the Devialet Phantom is something that you just have to experience once in a lifetime to believe that it actually exists. We were told that everything in Phantom is unique – the Phantom is protected by 88 worldwide patents and we can see why the manufacturers have gone through such lengths to protect this revolutionary invention.

#11 Big Blue Party Indoor-Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker

Big Blue Party loudest bluetooth speakers

If you are looking for a huge but portable indoor-outdoor bluetooth speaker for party events, the Big Blue is hands-down the loudest bluetooth speaker in this range and is exactly what you need. The best thing about the Big Blue is that it comes with 4 full-range speaker drivers that deliver powerful 360 sound. It also comes with an easy-grip carry handle which means you can take it anywhere you want to party – by the pool, decks or even on the beach. To top it off, it’s also portable and water-resistant (splash resistant). This speaker measures 6.3”w x 6.3”d x 15.8”h.

The sound performance of the Big Blue is unlike anything we’ve heard before. It produces thick, pounding sub-woofer bass that will rock your party to the beat of the music. It has clear trebles, and maxed out volume/bass still clear as crystal with zero distortion. It’s loud as hell, and probably the loudest bluetooth speaker we have heard at this range. The sound projects equally in all directions and screams out with pure authority. The design is solid and attractive – it’s super easy to use, and has customizable bass/treble.

To compare with other speakers, the Big Blue is louder and has more bass than the Bose SoundLink II and the Samsung M7. The Big Blue has the added advantage of having speakers all around and the sound is omni-directional. We were extremely surprised at how great the Big Blue sounds and is definitely one of the loudest bluetooth speakers at this price range. The only down side to this speaker is its connection to Bluetooth. It connects quick but you cannot be moving too much with your phone or ipod because it may lose connection. You will have to set your device and not move it. Other than this minor issue, this speaker is completely worth the money. The Big Blue is just much better sounding than many other bluetooth speakers out there, and probably the loudest bluetooth speaker in this field.

Some eye-popping technical specifications that the Big Blue Party has are (1) Four 2.5” drivers are mounted inside on 45-degree angles under the top rubber cap, (2) One 5.5” circular subwoofer above the bottom cap firing directly to the left, and (3) One 5” by 7” passive box radiator firing off to the right. It also cranks up to 72 Watts of juice (18W per channel +36 W for subwoofer), and also features a 3.5 Aux connection. The charge life of the Big Blue is 4.5 hours, and the recharge time can go up to 5 hours.  Big Blue Party actually performs properly stereo-separated sound through its speakers, with left- and right-channel audio clearly projecting out from the respective edges of the chassis.

The Verdict? The Big Blue Party is the real deal for party goers who want to get serious about partying to the beat of the music. It has virtually no competition if you are looking for a portable Bluetooth Speaker that bumps and cranks up the volume. If you like hip-hop/R&B/reggae this thing kills. It also handles Jazz, alternative and just about everything else that you can throw at it. You can bring the Big Blue everywhere you go to the beach, BBQ, party, vacation, pool or just chilling in the backyard. This is one of the loudest bluetooth speakers of 2017 that definitely packs a huge punch.

The battery life of the MEGABOOM is phenomenal. We found that the speaker could last for over 55 hours of continuous playtime at just 30% volume. The Smart Bluetooth feature consumes some battery power and it can be turned off if you don’t need the remote on/off features.

#19 KEF Muo Wireless Bluetooth Speaker, Sunset Orange

KEF Muo loudest Bluetooth Speakers

KEF Muo loudest Bluetooth SpeakersDesigned by Ross Lovegrove and engineered by KEF, the KEF MUO is packed with innovative technologies to deliver uncompromised KEF quality soundwhen you’re streaming music wirelessly from a computer or mobile device. It packs a punch out of all proportion to its size. It is really the epitome of integrating innovative engineering and outstanding design into a single device. It features the KEF’s legendary Uni-Q ‘point source’ driver array and a powerful new bass radiator which makes it one of the loudest bluetooth speakers of all time – the Muo can fill the room with stunningly accurate sound and high volumes with virtually zero distortion.

We simply adored the KEF MUO’s design. Straight out of the box we were impressed with the carton and the way it was meticulously packaged. We were also surprised at the weight of this unit. The USB power cord is high quality, made of braided silver. It came with changeable power adaptors for other countries electrical outlets in the box. The finish is Aluminum and the product feels and looks expensive. The Muo can be played horizontal or vertical.

Pairing the Muo with the iPhone was super easy and only took a couple seconds. We played a good workout mix first to see the bass response and were duly impressed with the thumping bass. We couldn’t believe the large sound the little gem made; it filled my whole room up. When we played Seal “A kiss from a rose” – this is where this Muo really impressed us. The details of the vocals and instruments were so defined. We listened to different vocals and some jazz cuts and we were very impressed with the overall soundstage, clarity and the ease of playback. We were impressed that the KEF Muo could play pretty loud and still sounded good, of course there was some bass reduction already and very hot mixes tended to distort slightly, but dynamic compression was well under control and the overall result was pretty satisfying.

The more we listened to the Muo the more we liked it. There’s an app for iPhone as well, which we found was very cool. The Muo detail, big soundstage, thumping bass and the exceptional build quality of the product justifies the price of this device.

The Verdict? When we first got the Muo we expected it to sound good, but we are really shocked at how good it actually sounds. It has a deep, mature sound which emphasises the fine details, mids and highs of the music soundtracks. It’s easily one of the loudest bluetooth speakers for this size. It allows streaming high quality audio through the Bluetooth aptX which really helps you to appreciate how goods this speaker can sound. The battery life lasts for a stunning 12 hours of play time and the exterior aluminium finish looks incredibly eye-catchy. If you have some extra cash to spare, the KEF Muo is definitely a high-end piece of audio equipment you should seriously consider.

#20 B&O PLAY A1 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

B&O PLAY A1 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

The B&O Play A1 is hands down one of the sleekest, uniquely-designed, portable and loudest bluetooth speaker we have tested. This speaker produces an astounding 2 X 140W at peak power which is pretty damn loud for a speaker of this size. In ambient mode, the A1 provides an unrivalled stereo experience with its True360 sound technology, providing good dispersion, volume and bass resonance. Furthermroe, this speaker is only 1.3 lb and is small enough to travel with you everywhere you go – it’s made of an all-aluminium dome which is dust and splash resistant. A double-molded polymer also creates a solid base for the speaker to rest while stationery. The battery life is an all-time incredible of 24 hours at normal volume levels from a single charge. In a nutshell, the A1 is without a doubt one of the best and loudest bluetooth speakers designed with quality and portability in mind.

The sound performance of the A1 is phenomenal for its size and power source. It has very wide soundstage and the music seems 3 dimensional. It has an amazing bass response for its little size especially if placed against a surface it’s able to use as a resonator. It fills the space with clear high quality sound. The sound is just warm, liquid smooth and powerful from the low notes to higher frequencies. The bass is present where it should be; it does not bleed into the midranges. The midranges were especially lovely as well. Listening to Jazz, acoustics, instrumental songs with this speaker is incredibly enjoyable. The sound is simply quite amazing and even at low volumes you get decent bass response. We found that the sound does not distort at all at maximum volumes.

We felt that the A1 performed a step beyond most conventional bluetooth speakers. It sounds as though there are some smart amplifiers inside and a DSP system that adjusts the levels of sound to optimize them for the internal drivers and is able to create amazing surround sound and sound stage. The sound ‘surrounds’ you which does not seem to be possible from such a small speaker.

B&O PLAY A1 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

We were extremely impressed not only with the sound but by the aesthetics of this speaker. The rounded aluminium dome softens the speaker’s profile while its strength protects the delicate components inside. From all angles this speaker looks stunning. It’s also incredibly lightweight so you can carry it around without any hassle. The battery life is very good and is probably among the best we have ever come across. An LED indicator tells you when it’s time to recharge. The battery takes about 2.5 hours of 5V – 3A charging for a full day of portable power.

Finally, you can also connect two A1s for a wireless stereo sound experience. The A1 features a Connect Button to conveniently activate your last played music at launch. It also comes with B&O Play app for your to personalize your listening experience, set up wireless stereo pairing and update the firmware.

The Verdict? The B&O Play A1 is an exceptional speaker with phenomenal sound. It’s well and truly one of the loudest bluetooth speakers in the market, and has the added advantage of portability and design with its unique aluminium finish. We were so impressed by the sound performance of the A1 because it delivered truly exceptional soundstage, crisp highs and mids and deep bass. You can really feel the quality of this speaker while listening to your favorite soundtracks. At an incredible 2 X 140W peak power, this is without a doubt one of the loudest bluetooth speakers for its size and you can expect to be impressed.

Special Mention: The OontZ Angle 3 PLUS Loudest Bluetooth Speaker

The OontZ Angle 3 PLUS Portable Bluetooth Speaker by Cambridge Soundworks, while smaller than the OontZ Angle 3XL, is also one of the loudest bluetooth speakers in term of size and portability. This speaker is compact is size and is designed to deliver richer, fuller bass from its drivers. These speakers deliver up to 10 Watts of power and an incredible 30 hours of playtime with the volume set up to 2/3 of maximum playing volume which is pretty incredible considering the small size of this speaker. It is the perfect combination of power, portability, loudness and yet weighes less than two pounds. Furthermore, the OontZ Angle 3 is super cheap in price and cannot hurt your wallet. For such a high quality product, this is definitely a win-win situation.

The OontZ Angle 3 PLUS has the ability to turn any phone, tablet, mobile device or PC into a high-end portable boombox sound system, and can play high quality sound and loud volumes with minimum distortion. We found that the bluetooth speaker has integrated passive bass radiators to enhance the bass output, and two custom designed precision drivers that provide sharp highs and clear midranges. The sound on this beast is loud enough for parties and gatherings, and to fill even a large room with high quality sound. If you love playing music movies and games wirelessly from your tablets, smartphones and PCs for Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, iTunes, etc, you’ll definitely find this super loud bluetooth speaker exceptionally convenient.

Some other features that we liked about the OontZ Angle 3 Plus is the fact that it is IPX5 splashproof, rainproof, dustproof and perfect for beach, poolside or boating uses – with this rating it will easily resist gentle water sprays and splashes – just don’t submerge it. The speaker also comes with an included 3.5mm audio cable to connect to the AUX-in jack for non-bluetooth devices. It comes with a built-in microphone for handsfree calling, which is a nice added touch. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides a good solid 30 hours of play time, although we did not max out the volume while testing it because it was too loud.

The Verdict? If you are looking for a powerful bluetooth speaker, the Oontz Angle 3 PLUS easily tops as one of the loudest bluetooth speakers at this size, and yet retains much of its portability and lightweight design. The sound on this speaker is simply excellent, although you may get some distortion issues when first using it – we found that you may need to use the speaker for some burn-in time before cranking them up. The service support by Cambridge Soundworks is amazing and fast – so you if run into any issues you don’t have to worry at all! All in all, this is definitely one of the best loudest bluetooth speakers we have encountered.

Special Mention: Bose SoundTouch 30 Series III

Bose SoundTouch 30 Series III loudest bluetooth speakers

The Bose SoundTouch 30 Series III is undoubtedly the best-performing one-piece wireless music system from Bose. Although the SoundTouch is not built for portability, it’s one of the loudest Bluetooth speakers for home audio, and works very well with your home Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth devices so you can play almost anything you can imagine. Bose SoundTouch systems do not require extra controllers to use on a dispersed WIFI system like Sonos. The newest Soundtouch includes Bluetooth. Sonos does not. So you can link to a speaker by Bluetooth and have that music play on all grouped speakers. The Bose SoundTouch 30 Series III’s dimensions are 9.7″ H x 17.1″ W x 7.1″ D (25.75 lbs).

The SoundTouch 30 Series III is part of Bose’s next generation of stand-alone home entertainment solutions. In short, we love the functionality the system brings, with easy wireless web integration and multiple input options. The sound is what you would expect from Bose, clean and full.

Installation of this unit is a breeze. It comes with a power cord and a remote. You plug it in and you go. Setup involves using their app to configure the device through your existing wireless network. We did the setup on a PC, but we’ve also used the app on iPhone. The steps are simple, and the app is very clean and usable. You can connect online music services that you use (Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio) so that the device can draw from them, and this is a quick process of selecting them from a list and entering your login info. Then you’re all set to play. You can control the device (what it plays, volume) wirelessly through the app, from the remote, or on the device itself. So that’s all to say that setup is easy, and brings me to fuller comments on functionality.

The SoundTouch has bluetooth, so you can stream audio from any bluetooth device (and this provides the necessary workaround for Spotify if you only have a free account; you can stream a playlist from a phone or PC). It also has an aux input jack, so you can use a cord to connect anything with a headphone jack. So those additional options lend some great flexibility.

In terms of audio performance, the SoundTouch 30 Series III has a nice and full sound, and it puts out quite a lot of volume. Apart from its size, it is one of the loudest Bluetooth speakers for home environments – it will fill a relatively large living room without trouble. The bass and treble are both very clear and defined. There may be a bit of weakness in the mid-range tones, but overall it’s a very clean and enjoyable sound. Because of the way the sound comes off of this unit in both the front and the back, it does fill a room well, although we speculate two speakers would create a fuller sound picture. But that would be a different unit. As for the sound of this unit, there’s no doubt it is very good, and it holds up at low volume and high volume.

The Verdict? We absolutely love the SoundTouch 30 Series III. The functionality is top notch. It is simple to use with great flexibility of inputs. The app only enhances this functionality. The sound is full and clear, and it will fill a room beautifully. This is an exciting peak at the possibilities of simple music listening. Push a button and listen; no logging in or pairing up devices or opening apps needed to get internet-based sound flowing. The sound quality is just about as good as it gets – you are really getting top value for what you pay for with this device.

Special Mention: B&O PLAY by BANG & OLUFSEN – BeoPlay A2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

B&O PLAY by BANG & OLUFSEN loudest bluetooth speakers

B&O PLAY by BANG & OLUFSEN loudest bluetooth speakersThe Beoplay A2 is definitely the answer to all the existing portable speakers on the market right now, and B&O didn’t just copy existing concepts with average results (like B&W did with the T7), but created something completely new and unique. Although design is a matter of taste, we really liked it. It is elegant and funky at the same time, easy to carry thanks to the leather-strap. The A2 is definitely a powerful, yet well-balanced bluetooth speaker which features rich bass that can fill any room or outdoor space. With drivers pumping out a solid 60Watts of juice, the A2 is easily one of the loudest bluetooth speakers in its category.

One of the most impressive facts of the A2 is bass response. The speaker is about the size of the Soundlink III, but flatter, more rounded and lighter as well, but this thing plays down below 50Hz and most improtant it is not an artifically boosted bass like on most Bose speakers, but rather flat bass response, at least up to medium levels. Bass is never boomy or bloated, you can even put the A2 inside a corner which will result in a heavy bodied sound nearly resembling that of a grown up system. When standing completely free bass can sometimes remain a bit recessed, but regardless how the A2 is positioned, it never sounds neither anemic, nor does the bass ever distract from the rest of the music, even if you are listening from within a room mode.

Bass reduction starts at above half volume, but the speaker still manages a rather full-bodied sound at max. volume unlike some of the competiton like the B&W T7, which can play louder, but dials bass back nearly completely which results in a hurting unbalanced sound.

The Beoplay A2 is one of the few speakers which manages to create a bit of stereo separation. The front/back drivers are mounted at the opposite sides, so will not only get a left/right effect, but also front/back, the speaker fills the room much better than any other comparable speaker we have tried. It sounds more airy more open and reminds me a bit of the Fugoo, but the Beoplay A2 sounds much more serious, more like a fullsized system.

The Beoplay is really a pleasure to listen to – we have thrown everything at it, from Jazz, Funk, to House, Electronica, it always sounded great, with some exceptions though. The Beoplay suffers from some distortion with particular dance tracks, particularly TR-909 or 808 electronic kick-drums type of sounds.  If you listen to simple (blunt) music, any speaker that can crank out dB’s without too much distortion will probably satisfy you, but if you prefer complex compositions that make use of the subtleties afforded by a wide harmonic frequency range then you’ll prefer a more sophisticated audio system capable of reproducing that effect. The greater the complexity and/or subtlety of your music choice and the more discerning your ear, the more you’ll appreciate B&O A2.

Interestingly, when we tested the A2 by the beach with 20 knots of wind, its sound quality drew a crowd of kitesurfers who wanted to see how such a small speaker was producing such amazing audio. Most had never heard of B&O, but many were saving the name on their smartphones. If something this small can reproduce music in an open air environment (no structures to act as sounding boards) with enough volume and clarity to draw a crowd from 50′ around in a 20 knot wind, B&O has done quite a lot right. It’s truly one of the most sophisticated loudest bluetooth speakers we’ve tested.

The Verdict? When we listen to the B&O BeoPlay A2 we forgot that we are actually listening to a portable speaker. B&O have built their audio reputation upon creating balanced, well-tuned components and speakers for customers who appreciate precision audio and have enough discretionary income to acquire it, but who aren’t audio engineers. Similar to Apple, B&O produces products that are part design status symbols and part high-end technical tools. The stellar and sophisticated A2 is no exception and is easily one of the loudest bluetooth speakers for its category.

2018 Audi SQ5 First Drive Review

I struggle with the new SQ5 because the Q5 is already an amazing mid-size SUV. There’s so much goodness I’d imagine one would struggle with the idea of anything better, right? The correct answer is, wrong. While the differences are subtle for what you can and cannot see, they might be just enough for the right buyer in search of a high performing vehicle that stands out from the rest of the crowd; especially when there are over 1.5-million first generation Q5 roaming the roads today. That’s where Audi’s S-badge comes in.

What’s Audi’s secret sauce? The SQ5 inherits everything that’s great about the second-generation Q5: a new platform using the same steel unibody with stylish exterior, clean and classy interior. With an additional 1.3 inch added to the overall length, provides more legroom to the rear seats. There’s no qualms whether the SQ5 is geared to sell more to the male buyers versus the Q5-variant. Take for instance the more aggressive front end, sleeker rear end with faux exhausts and larger wheels starting at 20 or order up to 21 inches directly from the factory.

During my drive on the open yet twisty roads in British Columbia, the sensation I experience from the SQ5 is more of a high performance vehicle that happens to look like an SUV. Albeit, just like the S4 and S5, the SQ5 is built on Audi’s MLB Evo platform sharing the same 3.0liter turbocharged V6, eight speed automatic transmission. The performance is there when you need it and the updated all-wheel-drive quattro is rear wheel bias, meaning that while it still keeps you out of trouble, you can throw it around and slightly under steer for fun if you want. The S sport package takes the SQ5 to a whole new level of driving experience by actively splitting torque between the wheels of the rear axle, essentially – if needed, give almost all torque to one wheel in order to provide you with the most dynamic driving experience. More specifically, the default settings is 40/60 front and rear split, with up to 70-percent front or 85-percent rear power distribution, taking into account for road and driving condition.

2018-Audi-SQ50-1080x720

Pushing the SQ5 hard but obviously not crazy, is truly rewarding. This kind of precise steering when you’re on a spirited driving stint isn’t something you’d expect from an SUV, so bravo Audi. In fact, the optional dynamic steering, which I highly recommend ticking off on the buy sheet, has a variable steering ratio adjusting to the speed your driving while taking into account the what drive mode you’re in. What this means for you net in a better straight line stability at higher speed, while slower speeds allow for more direct steering ratio to help increase steering response such as maneuvering in and out of parking sports or quickly sprinting to the coveted number one slot when picking up your kids after school. Parents, you know exactly, what I’m talking about, negotiating a parking lot full of cars at moderate speed gets tricky, so take advantage of these feature.

With 354 hp and 369 lb.-ft of torque at your disposal, power is near instant, even for the size of the the SQ5 which by the way has shed some weight, mainly through the engine. If 0-60 figure is important to your buying decision, it clocks in right around 5.1-seconds. Torque is very early in the power band, starting right at 1,370 and goes through 4,500 rpm. Fuel economy has improved by 2 mpg over the last gen netting at 21 mpg combined.

2018-Audi-SQ58-1080x720

On or “off-road”, the SQ5 is capable of smoothing out the bumps and imperfections on the road and for the first time on the SQ5, ticking the S sport package includes the sport adaptive air suspension which lowers the height by 30mm when in auto mode, compared to the standard adaptive suspension. Depending on your driving style and habits, it’s possible to adjust both the ride height and the firmness of the dampers via the standard Audi drive select. You get the standard comfort, auto, dynamic, individual but with the sport adaptive air suspension, there’s the addition of the all road and a lift/off-road mode. While the SQ5 isn’t going places that a Jeep Wrangler might venture towards, the higher ground clearance can be a life saver when you might least expect it.

Inside, the SQ5 is just as roomy as the Q5, as you might expect. The exhaust notes are cleverly pipped in to created and capture the emotional experience as you grasp the svelt Alcantara wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel while being hugged in a supportive leather Sport seat. It’s hard to beat this level of fusion between luxury and sportiness while maintaining a clean in-cabin interior.

It’s worth mentioning that Audi Virtual Cockpit is still, after these years is one of the best driver-centric dashboard. It’s one of the most ideal setup when using Google Earth as a guide for spirited driving such as carving through unfamiliar territories. The placement is perfectly placed right below the line of sight which helps your eyes focused on the road ahead. The steering wheel layout is another area where Audi has knocked it out of the park with proper placements in the 3 and 9 positions.

Nearly $14,000 premium over the Q5, with a base price of $55,275 for the 2018 SQ5, it’s not definitely not for every buyer. Audi understands their buyers and don’t expect the SQ5 to fly off the lot but instead, targets the right individual looking to stand out from the crowded mid-size SUV market. You need a stylish with a twist of aggressive design, powered by a more power engine, sportier handling and still have room to haul the entire family around comfortably? Check, check, check and check.

6 Reasons to Buy the Moto Z2 Force, and 3 Reasons to Skip

Should You Buy the Moto Z2 Force?

The most unique Android phone of the year, the Moto Z2 Force truly stands out with its shatterproof screen and especially its wide range of Moto Mods. But at $720 to $750, it’s also priced about the same as the Galaxy S8. Is Motorola’s flagship worth the premium? Yes, but it’s not for everyone.

Here’s a quick look at the pros and cons.

Moto Mods are truly innovative (and useful)

With nearly two dozen Moto Mods available, there are plenty of ways to add capabilities to the Moto Z2 Force. Thanks to a clever and easy-to-use magnetic system, you can attach everything to this phone from a Bluetooth speaker with kickstand and 360-degree camera to a wide range of Style shells and a console-like gamepad. Just keep in mind that the best Mods cost $80 and up.

Shatterproof screen

There are two reasons not to get a case for the Z2 Force. First, it would be annoying to have to take off a case each time you wanted to attach a Moto Mod. Second, the screen is tough enough to withstand any punishment you dish out. With five layers of protection, Motorola guarantees that the screen won’t crack should the phone take a tumble. And you get this durability in a design that’s only 0.24 inches thick.

Dual Cameras do some neat tricks

The Z2 Force features two 12-megapixel cameras on the back, which allows you to capture true black-and-white photos that can produce dramatic effects. We saw great results when shooting a photo of the Flat Iron building in New York City. There’s also a depth-enabled mode for making your subjects pop, but the blur effect could stand to be more natural looking.

Fingerprint sensor in the right place with smart navigation

While the Galaxy S8 and LG G6 put their fingerprint readers on the back, which is awkward, the Moto Z2 Force has its sensor right below the screen. Even better, it’s elongated and lets you perform various shortcuts. Swiping to the left goes back, while swiping to the right shows your open apps.

Helpful Moto Actions gestures to speed things up

This feature isn’t new, but it’s still awesome. Moto Actions, accessible right from the home screen, lets you perform various shortcuts. For instance, you can twist the phone in your hand to launch the camera, make a chopping motion twice to fire up the flashlight. Constantly in meetings? Turn on the Pick Up to Stop Ringing action.

Get a free projector for a limited time

One of the most fun Moto Mods is the Insta-Share projector, which normally costs $299. If you buy a Z2 Force Edition through September 9, you can get this add-on for free. This projector, which you’ll receive by mail, beams up to a 70-inch image and makes it easy and fun to watch YouTube clips or movies or TV shows. Just make sure you use it in a dark room, as the projector is limited to 50 lumens.

Unsightly bezels

It’s thin and tough, but the Z2 Force is a bit behind the competition in one other area of phone design. It has pronounced bezels above and below the screen at a time the likes of the Galaxy S8 and LG 6 are almost all screen up front.

It’s not a dealbreaker by any stretch and it’s likely what allows the fingerprint sensor to be located up front, but you will have to stretch your thumb more across this 5.5-inch screen that you would the S8, because of the Z2 Force’s more standard aspect ratio. The Galaxy S8’s screen has a taller and more narrow 18.5:9 aspect ratio, which makes the phone easier to use in one hand.

Photo quality a step behind Samsung

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Moto Z2 Force camera

The dual 12-MP cameras on the Moto Z2 Force are good, but the results weren’t as impressive as what the Galaxy S8 produced in side-by-side tests. In one shot of two co-workers, the two phones were neck and neck in terms of colors and sharpness, but the Galaxy S8 performed much better indoors in low light.

The Z2 Force was also slower to capture images than we’d like and a bit slow to launch the camera.

A bit pricey

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Moto Z2 Force

At about $720 to $750, the Moto Z2 Force is priced in the same ballpark as the Galaxy S8, but there are other very good flagships that cost even less. The LG G6, for example, rocks dual cameras, has a fully water resistant design (the Moto just has a water-repellant coating) and less bezels for just $500 on T-Mobile right now.

That’s a big difference in price. We recommend the cheaper $408 Moto Z2 Play for those on a budget, because it also supports Moto Mods. But if you want a shatterproof screen, dual cameras and the latest Snapdragon 835 processor, the Z2 Force is a good premium option.

Lenovo Flex 5 (14-inch) Review

The Pros

Attractive, two-tone design; Solid performance

The Cons

Bland, dim display; Shallow keyboard

Verdict

The Lenovo Flex 5 is a strong performer with an attractive design, but its dim display and shallow keyboard brings it down.

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Lenovo Flex 5

Power and flexibility are often limited to premium devices, but the Flex 5 14-inch ($499.99 to start, $1,099.99 as tested) offers both. It’s an affordable 2-in-1 with an optional Core i7 CPU and Nvidia 940MX GPU in an attractive, two-toned package. But with affordability comes some cuts, and despite its looks and power, the Flex 5 doesn’t feel as good to use as its competitors. Its shallow keyboard and dim screen are also turnoffs, but you’ll save money over similarly specked competitors.

Design

The Flex 5 ‘s two-toned design is simple but eye-catching. The plastic lid is black with Lenovo’s logo in silver in the top left corner. Opening the notebook reveals a gunmetal gray aluminum deck with an island-style keyboard, as well as a 14-inch, 1080p touch-screen display.

At 4.1 pounds and 12.9 x 9 x 0.8 inches, the Flex 5 is on the heavy side. While the 15-inch HP Spectre x360 (14 x 8.9 x 0.7 inches) is heavier at 4.4 pounds, the Lenovo Yoga 910 (12.7 x 8.8 x 0.56 inches) and Acer Spin 7(12.8 x 9 x 0.4 inches) are lighter at 3 pounds and 2.9 pounds, respectively.

The Flex 5 has a pretty standard set of ports along its sides. On the left are an HDMI output, a USB 3.0 port, a USB Type-C port and a headphone jack. On the right side you’ll find the SD card slot, a USB 3.0 port and a Kensington lock slot.

Because it’s a convertible 2-in-1, the Flex 5 can be used as a laptop, tablet, display (with the keyboard folded back) or in tent mode (an upside-down “V”).

Display

The Flex 5’s 14-inch, 1920 x 1080 touch display is darker than competitors and offers bland colors. When I watched an FHD trailer for “Justice League,” a lot of details were lost in dark shadows. When Wonder Woman talked to Bruce Wayne in the Batcave, I couldn’t even see the left side of the billionaire playboy’s mouth. The Flash’s normally red suit was just a tad on the burgundy side, but the red and blue lights attached to Cyborg appeared color accurate.

The screen covers just 74 percent of the sRGB color gamut, far below the thin-and-light average (104 percent) and less vivid than the Yoga 910 (98 percent), the Spin 7 (113 percent) and the Spectre x360 (113 percent).

At 242 nits of average brightness, the Flex’s display is dim, falling short of the 262-nit average. The Spectre reached 255 nits, while the Spin 7 measured 264 nits. The Yoga was the most luminous at 292 nits.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The Flex 5’s keyboard doesn’t offer as much feedback as I like. With just 1.3 millimeters of travel (we prefer at least 1.5mm) and 72 grams of required force to press, it wasn’t clicky or deep. I didn’t bottom out, but it felt a bit soft. On the 10fastfingers.com, I typed at 110 words per minute, within my average range, but my error rate doubled from 2 to 4 percent.

The 4.1 x 2.7-inch touchpad is smooth, accurate and responsive to Windows 10 gestures, like tapping three fingers to summon Cortana and two-finger scrolling. It’s a bit shallow for my liking, but it’s something I could get used to.

Audio

The Flex’s speakers are a mixed bag. The laptop was just loud enough to fill the room with sound and get my toes tapping during Paramore’s “Ain’t It Fun,” and the vocals were very clear. The guitars and drums were easy to make out but didn’t have the same level of prominence. The bass, however, was nowhere to be found.

The Dolby Audio app offers presets for different media, like movies, music and games. I found the default (music) to be the most balanced.

Performance

With a 2.7-GHz Intel Core i7-7500U CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB, 5,400 HDD, 128GB SSD and a Nvidia 940MX GPU with 2GB of VRAM, it’s no surprise that the Flex 5 can handle everyday usage with aplomb. I had 30 tabs open in Google Chrome (including one streaming a 1080p episode of “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” from YouTube) without a single hiccup.

But on the Geekbench 4 overall performance test, it notched a score of 7,748, falling below the thin-and-light average (9,096) and the Spectre x360 (8,017, Core i7-7500U) while tying the Yoga 910 (7,748, Core i5-7500U). Only the Spin 7, with its Core i7-7Y75 CPU, performed worse, with 5,777.

It took the Flex 5 27 seconds to duplicate 4.97GB of files. That’s an effective transfer rate of 188.5 megabytes per second. While that’s speedier than the Spin 7 (124.1MBps), the Yoga (194.7Mbps) and the Spectre x360 (282.1MBps) were much quicker.

The Flex 5 paired 20,000 names and addresses in 3 minutes and 38 seconds on our OpenOffice spreadsheet test. The average is 4:15, and again, the Spin 7 was slower (4:37). But the Yoga 910 and the HP Spectre x360, tied at 3:34, were faster.

The 940MX GPU isn’t the most powerful graphics card, and you won’t be playing games like Rise of the Tomb Raider or PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with it, but you might get some faster performance in Photoshop. It notched a score of 105,373 on the 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited benchmark, easily surpassing the average (78,675), the Spin 7 (48,146, Intel HD Graphics 615) and the Yoga 910 (77,093, Intel HD Graphics 620). The HP Spectre, which has the same 940MX with 2GB of VRAM, scored 93,759.

Battery Life

The Flex 5 should have no trouble giving you a day’s worth of performance at work or school. It lasted 8 hours and 15 minutes on the Laptop Mag Battery Test, which continuously browses the web over Wi-Fi. The average is a little longer (8:20), and both the Spectre x360 (8:36) and Yoga 910 (a whopping 10:36) offered more endurance. The Spin 7 fell behind at just 6:53.

Webcam

The 720p webcam on the Flex 5 is color accurate and quite detailed. My bright red shirt appeared on screen as it does in real life, and I could even make out some individual hairs. The lights behind me were a bit blown out, though, creating distracting lines around my headphones.

Heat

In our testing, the Flex 5 met but did not exceed our 95-degree comfort threshold. After streaming 15 minutes of HD video from YouTube, the Flex measured 96 degrees Fahrenheit, the center of the keyboard reached 86 degrees and the touchpad was 79 degrees.

Software and Warranty

The Flex 5 continues Lenovo’s tradition of including minimal software, which is mostly useful. It includes the Companion app for keeping your system updated and running diagnostics, as well as the settings app with options for the webcam and networking.

The rest is just the same junk you find in any Windows 10 installation: Drawboard PDF, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Bubble Witch 3 Saga, March of Empires, Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition, Twitter and AutoDesk SketchBook.

Lenovo sells the Flex 5 with a one-year warranty.

Configurations

The Lenovo Flex 5 we reviewed cost $1,099.99 with a 2.7-GHz Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, 1TB, 5,400-rpm HDD, 128GB PCIe SSD, a Nvidia GeForce 940MX with 2GB of VRAM and a 1080p display. You can get a version with almost identical specs, except no SSD or discrete GPU, for $879.99.

The base model is $499.99, and comes with a Core i3-7100U CPU, 1366 x 768 display, 4GB of RAM, 500GB, 5,400-rpm HDD and no discrete GPU.

A model with a Core i5-7200U CPU, 1080p display, 8GB of RAM and 1TB, 5,400-rpm HDD is $699.99. Again, you only get integrated graphics with this model.

Bottom Line

The 14-inch Lenovo Flex 5 is a powerful, attractive 2-in-1 that falls short with a dim display and a shallow keyboard. It had the potential to be great, but those cut corners make the Flex 5 only good at best.

If you’ve got a bit more money to spend, the HP Spectre x360 (starting at $1,279.99) is the better way to go. Its starting configuration offers a 256GB SSD and has a brilliant 4K display. It has longer battery life and a beautiful, premium design. If you want something closer in price or want to stick with Lenovo, the $1,200 Yoga 910 is a better choice. It’s more portable, has over 2 hours more battery life, a great keyboard and a gorgeous display.

But if you want a 2-in-1 on a budget and don’t mind boosting your brightness to the max, the Flex 5 can be a powerful contender for the money, as long as you can put up with its drawbacks.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon review : Is this luxury smartwatch experience worth it?

The Tambour Horizon is a luxury watch. It feels good to wear, it looks good and it has all the care and detail that a luxury watch should have. It’s also heavily focused on travel, with some nice features to ease your global lifestyle as you go from airport to airport. And hey, it’ll match your luggage. But even if you’re not a frequent flyer, it has appeal in its designer look at that Louis Vuitton name. If you can afford its steep price and really want a smartwatch to match your decadent lifestyle, then this is for you.

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon

Louis Vuitton is one of the most well known and beloved luxury fashion houses in the world. It’s only been making fancy timepieces since 2002, but now it’s jumping into the world of smartwatches with the Tambour Horizon.

This is a luxury smartwatch built for the jet setters. Louis Vuitton is not concerned with fitness or metrics – there’s no heart rate sensor or GPS here. Instead, it wants to be the perfect wrist-based companion for travelling, and when you’re back on the terra firma, just looking like a damn fancy smartwatch.

Hands on: LG Q6 review

The LG Q6 looks like a cutting-room floor version of the LG G6. It’s different in a few key ways, but looks and acts mostly the same. This makes sense, as it’s the cheaper midrange version of the company’s flagship smartphone.

8LSy36CuD99gHptPckZf3f-650-80

But don’t let the word “midrange” phase you, as much of the G6’s visual pizazz has made the transition to the midrange class unfettered. The Q6 features its taller aspect ratio, a nearly bezel-free design, and curved glass around its back that really gives it a good feeling in the hand.

Obviously, the innards have been changed considerably to bring the price down. But this could be one of the best midrange devices around and an easy recommendation when it releases later this month.

We’re still testing the Q6 and awaiting official pricing and release date details. You can look forward to our full review going up soon, but until then, let’s take an early look at the Q6.

Urbanears Baggen Wireless Speaker review

Sonos has become synonymous with multi-room audio streaming and for good reason. The user experience is excellent and its speakers sound great. Sure, they’re expensive but you get what you pay for in terms of ease of use.

Many times throughout the last decade, some companies have tried create similar multi-room audio systems but none have been quite as easy to use and setup as Sonos. LG’s Music Flow line of speakers, for example, offer multi-room sound but its software is clunky and the speakers just don’t sound very good. Recently, Apple came out with its HomePod speaker, which has the ability to sync with other HomePod speakers in your home.

Urbanears, most known for its minimalistically styled headphones like the Urbanears Plattan II has taken a crack at creating multi-room speakers with the Urbanears Baggen and Stammen. Unfortunately, the company’s speakers are too expensive to recommend over a comparable Sonos. Here’s why.

2017 SSR Motorsports Buccaneer Review

SSR Motorsports brings some classic Italian style to the small-displacement U.S. market with its Buccaneer Classic and Cafe’ Racer models. Powered by 250 cc air-cooled V-twins — yes, I said V-twin — in a range usually dominated by thumpers, the Buccaneer siblings bring a little European flair to the table to show that small displacement doesn’t have to be boring and having a bike with a small carbon-footprint doesn’t have to come without style.

Design

2017-buccaneer-cafe-3_800x0w

These little imports look to be simple, yet classy, entry-level rides, but I’m going to take a good look at them today, because everything may not be as copacetic as it seems on paper. Why do I say that? Well, SSR imports its machines from China, and that can sometimes bring a certain stigma that’s hard to get past. The good news here is that SSR falls under the Qianjiang Group umbrella, and QJ has a solid reputation in the Asian market with production numbers into the three-million-plus bracket between engine and complete-vehicle construction. In other words; plenty of experience over there, but how will it perform on our shores, that’s the question here. Let’s find out.

Best 4K Cameras You Can Buy In 2017

In recent years, a number of digital cameras have offered the ability to record high-resolution 4K video which brings many benefits to both photographers and videographers. This ‘benefits of 4K video’ list includes the ability to not only record high-resolution video but also the option to take 8-megapixel still images from the footage. Plus, the technology is now built into cameras of various price points so it doesn’t matter if you have a few hundred quid to spend or thousands of pounds in your back pocket, you’ll be able to find a 4K camera you can afford.

There are two main types of 4K video: UHD, and Cine-4K. All cameras that record 4K video will record at least UHD video but not all cameras record Cine-4K.

UHD (Ultra High Definition, also known as QHD / Quad HD) is 4x the resolution of FullHD video, with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and 16:9 aspect ratio while Cine-4K has a 4096 x 2160 resolution and a 17:9 aspect ratio. Cine-4K (also known as DCI-4K) is designed to be the resolution used for cinema movie recording, while UHD is used for most 4K televisions.

Best cars for dog owners

Whether you’ve got less than £15,000 to spend or more than £50,000, there’s a new car that’s ideal for you if you own a dog. These are our recommendations

**** Note : £1 = $1.30

There are around 6.5 million dog owning households in the UK, with nine in 10 of those thinking of their pet as a fully-fledged member of the family. So, what should you choose if you’re looking for a car that’s as comfortable for Fido as it is for Aunt Frida?

Well, something with a good-sized boot is obviously crucial, and a cream interior a big no-no. But you might also want to think about tinted windows to help keep your dog cool in summer, a partition grille to stop them joining you in the passenger compartment, and good air flow to prevent that ‘doggy’ smell.

If you’ve got a large dog, you’ll also want to make sure they can jump into the boot instead of having to be lifted in. And, of course, a forgiving but well controlled ride is a must if you want to stop them getting car sick.

Big test: 5 hearables and smart earbuds fight it out

We put five hearables to the test in sound, smarts and fitness

It’s the year of the hearable and we couldn’t be happier. At last, it feels like this category is reaching the point where we’re happy to cut the cord and embrace our in-ear smart assistant, rather than treat them with paranoid contempt.

Hearables still aren’t perfect, and there are plenty of improvements to yet make before they become part of all our everyday lives. More’s to come this year too; Pilot promises to launch its real-time translating hearable, and there’s a chance Apple will go all the way with fitness-focused AirPods.

Big test: Hearables go head-to-head

When we say hearable, we’re not talking about your everyday wireless Bluetooth headphones; we mean earbuds with actual smarts. Some focus on fitness, some on smart assistance, and some on augmenting the world around you.
