2017 BMW G310R First Ride Review

If you’re wondering how important the small-displacement segment is to BMW, here’s a figure to chew on: Edgar Heinrich, BMW Motorrad’s Head of Design, estimates, on a global scale, its current model lineup, excluding the G310R, appeals to approximately one million motorcycle shoppers. This means motorcycle consumers are buying bikes in segments BMW currently is present in. That includes everything from the G650GS on the low end, all the way to the K1600GTL at the other extreme.

120716-2017-bmw-G310R-3646

Add in the G310R and BMW says its potential motorcycle audience has now doubled in size: two million people. All thanks to one motorcycle. That’s how important the G310R is to BMW. Further driving home the 310R’s importance was the sheer number of people on the BMW payroll in attendance at the model’s international press launch in Hollywood, California; both from BMW North America’s New Jersey HQ, but also from the motherland in Deutschland. Clearly, there’s a lot riding on this new Beemer.

Helicopter versus Rally car : The McDonnell Douglas 520N takes on Hyundai’s i20 WRC

Life is funny. And sometimes certain opportunities simply appear, almost of their own doing. Well, the following was one of those unique opportunities…

helicopter-versus-rally-car-wpthumb

It’s the day after the conclusion of Rally Australia 2016, and, while most of the teams have packed up and are headed home, the team from Hyundai Motorsport remain. Why? Despite their official rally demands being completed, they’ve got one last thing left to do: a race.

If you’re wondering how a race between a helicopter and World Rally Championship (WRC) car comes up, just consider it the result of what happens when a bunch of top-notch pilots fall in love with watching rally live and up close

Fluance Fi50 Bluetooth Wood Speaker review : This big box puts out really big sound

Canada-based Fluance is relatively well known in the audiophile and home theater community for building good-performing, high-value speaker systems. The company generally sells direct to consumer in order to keep prices down. Shipping is free and if you don’t like the product after trying it out in your home, you can return it without penalty or even shipping costs—so long is it is within the 30-day return window.  By building a good product and keeping its distribution costs in check, Fluance has gained a reputation for delivering audio products at prices far below their value.

The Fi50 Bluetooth Wood Speaker System was once the company’s flagship Bluetooth product, but that distinction now belongs to the gargantuan Fi70, which is also in our review queue. Weighing in at 13.4 pounds—the equivalent of eight UE Megabooms—the Fluance Fi50 is by no means a portable speaker. But that mass enables the Fi50 to deliver bass response that no portable powered speaker can touch.

Fitbit Flex 2 v Fitbit Flex : To upgrade your fitness tracker or not?

Fitbit began its journey with clip-on trackers but its first wrist device, the Fitbit Flex, was a major turning point for the company. It led to several other wearables, but only now have we got a sequel, aptly called the Fitbit Flex 2.

Fitbit Flex 2 v Fitbit Flex

Now, it’s obvious that users will automatically pick up the newer device for its updated features. But there are a few who are likely holding onto the Flex because it’s served them so well. If you’re wondering about making the jump to Flex 2, then read on below.

Fitbit Flex 2 v Fitbit Flex: Design

The two Flex bands aren’t too different in terms of their simple design. The original Flex has a tracker with LEDs that light up when tapped to show your goal progress. The tracker module can also be removed for cleaning or if you want to switch out bands. It’s water resistant but not waterproof – so safe for showers and dishwashing but not swimming.

YI Home Camera 2 Review

The YI Home Camera 2 ($129.99) is a second-generation Wi-Fi security camera, but it feels and functions like the new kid on the block. It has some nice innovative features, such as crying-baby alerts and gesture-recognition video recording. But it has no web portal, it limits its alerts to once every 10 minutes, and its app is so streamlined that it stints on features.

Although the YI Home Camera 2 may work well as a baby monitor, and has impressive hardware specs, we can’t recommend it as a security camera until its alert system improves.

Design

The YI Home Camera 2 is an attractive, elongated, white oval that sits on a short, white, pivoting stand. It’s about 5 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide by 1 inch deep, and weighs less than 5 ounces. The 6.5-foot USB power cord plugs into a port on the 3-inch-round base.

2016 – 2017 Ducati XDiavel / XDiavel S Review

It’s safe to say that “cruiser” isn’t exactly the first word that comes to mind when one thinks of  Ducati, or even the third, yet here we are with the XDiavel and its slightly dressier, “S” trim package that carries the brand into uncharted waters. The “X” is meant to signify the cross and blending of the two worlds— cruiser and sport — and the end result is what the factory calls a “Technocruiser” due to its melding of Italian performance DNA and a more cruise-tastic rider triangle than you normally see from this brand.

For years, Ducati has been all about the sportbikes, and has recently ventured back into Scrambler territory after a roughly half-century hiatus, but this push into the power-cruiser  sector is something new. Today I’m going to take a look at these two bikes to try and get a feel for how well they will stack up against the competition in this densely packed field.

2017 McLaren P1 LM Review

Kết quả hình ảnh cho mclaren p1 lm review

Introduced in early 2013, the P1 was McLaren’s second production supercar and the spiritual successor to the iconic F1 of the 1990s. Arguably the quickest and most powerful road-going McLaren to date, the P1 was also the company’s first vehicle to use a hybrid drivetrain. Like its predecessor, it was built around a carbon-fiber monocoque and roof structure and employs various technologies that the British brand had developed for Formula One. Discontinued in 2016 after 375 units were built, the P1 spawned a race-only version named the P1 GTR. Developed at the request of P1 owners who wanted a more extreme version of the supercar, the GTR received a more powerful hybrid drivetrain and production was limited to only 35 examples, all of which were made available exclusively to P1 owners.

Cherry Mobile Iris Hands-on Review : Eye Security

One of the features that we miss the most from Samsung’s aborted Galaxy Note 7 is the iris scanning tech. If you don’t recall, the Note 7 had extra front facing cameras that read the iris of your eyes as an added layer of biometric security in addition to the fingerprint scanner and the customary PIN code to protect your phone. Unfortunately we all know what happened to the Note 7, and until other companies release their flagship phones with the tech, we’ll all have to settle with unlocking our phones with PIN codes and fingerprints.

cherry-mobile-iris-02

But as luck would have it, Cherry Mobile has a phone that uses the same iris scanning tech as the Note 7 at a fraction of the price. The Cherry Mobile Iris is probably the only phone in the PH market right now with the capability to unlock itself with just your eyes now that the Galaxy Note 7 has gone the way of the Dodo. Today we’ll be unlocking this unusual budget phone to see what it’s capable of. But first, the specs:

2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta Review

Kết quả hình ảnh cho 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta Review

The Ferrari LaFerrari made its first public appearance at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, taking center stage in spite of massive competition from the McLaren P1 and the Lamborghini Veneno. Not only the fastest road-legal supercar to come out of Maranello, the LaFerrari is also the first Ferrari to carry a hybrid powertrain. Developed as a successor to the almighty Enzo and the F50, the LaFerrari is the first Ferrari not to be designed by Pininfarina since 1973.

Built in just 499 units and priced from $1.7 million, the LaFerrari became an instant hit with deep-pocketed enthusiasts, who rushed to pay the hefty sticker and help Ferrari close order books in a matter of months. Although both the standard supercar and the highly exclusive, track-only FXX K are already sold out, the LeFerrari saga continues in 2017 with a convertibleversion.

Canon EOS M5 review: ‘Mirrorless 80D’ fails to faze its compact system competition

It’s fair to say we’ve been highly critical of Canon’s compact system camera EOS M line. For a simple reason, though: the Japanese company’s mirrorless cameras simply haven’t been able to stand up to the competition. And with the current line-up – think Fujifilm X-T2, Panasonic Lumix G80 and more – rapidly advancing, it’s a camera-eat-camera world.

Has that just changed with the Canon EOS M5? The redesigned interchangeable lens model – which sits above the entry-level M10 and middling M3 (yep, it’s an odd numbering convention that makes no sense) – is, in many respects, like a “mini 80D” DSLR (which we loved) and, finally, offers a focus system that’s actually usable.

So does Canon have what it takes to stand out in the bustling compact systemcamera market? Having experienced the M5 in person, it feels like a surge forward within Canon’s own rankings, but it’s still a step behind its competition for a variety of reasons.

Alcatel Idol 4S with Windows 10 review: Not Microsoft’s mobile saviour

The smartphone market is almost completely unrecognisable from just five years ago. Back then the Windows Phone platform was tightly controlled by Microsoft and only available on (since deceased) Nokia phones.

But we’re talking about an era when BlackBerry made its own keyboard phones that used the company’s own operating system. Now BlackBerry, with its DTEK60, uses the touchscreen Alcatel Idol 4S with an Android operating system as its flagship. It’s a big, yet decent phone.

So the perfect device to save a flagging Windows 10 mobile then? Alcatel seems to think so with this variant. But is the Idol 4S in this form really worth anyone’s time?

HP Omen X review

It’s big. It’s powerful. It’s cube-shaped.

The Omen X desktop from HP is one of the boldest PC designs of the year, taking what could have been a cool but not exactly groundbreaking cube shape and standing it on one edge for a sharp, angular look.

The first thing everyone does when they see the Omen X is reach out and ever so gently give it a shake. Even though it looks precariously perched on a single edge, the stand is actually rock solid, and there’s zero danger of it tipping over.

Google Wifi Review: Meet mesh networking’s new star

With its focus on the cloud it’s in Google’s best interest to get you online as fast, and as consistently as possible, and now that’s down to Google Wifi. Handiwork of the same team responsible for OnHub, the system you see today is more than three years in the making. Its goal isn’t just raw throughput but addressing what the company claims is the number one pain-point users complain about: inconsistent network coverage.

We’ve covered mesh networking in depth already, but the basics are straightforward. Rather than one single router that attempts to cover your whole home with wireless internet access, you instead have a number of individual, interconnected routers – known as nodes – which create interlocking bubbles of coverage. Your phones, laptops, tablets, and other devices see those bubbles as one, cohesive network, automatically and invisibly connecting to whichever is the nearest node.

ELAC Debut B6 review

There’s a satisfyingly poetic lineage connecting ELAC, a company founded in 1920s Germany, with the almost Bauhaus-like design of its Debut B6 standmount speakers.

It doesn’t conform to the more characteristic, sleeker style of modern speakers, but has a bold presence that is rather charming.

Build and compatibility

The B6s are the largest standmount speakers in ELAC’s Debut family, furnished with a two-way driver configuration that feeds a 25mm cloth dome tweeter and 16.5cm woofer, with a rear-firing reflex port for extra low-end.

DirecTV Now Review : Cord-Cutting Catastrophe

Kết quả hình ảnh cho DirecTV Now

On paper, there’s no reason why DirecTV Now ($35 to $70 per month) shouldn’t work. Like Sling TV, it is a stand-alone streaming cable-replacement service. Like PlayStation Vue, it offers a huge variety of channels for a relatively small amount of money. But even a few minutes with AT&T’s new service reveals that it’s a half-baked technical mess, sorely in need of another few months’ fine-tuning before it’s ready for prime time.

The channel selection and introductory price are decent enough, but DirecTV Now is sluggish, buggy and sometimes just downright broken. To top it all off, it’s not even very widely available. Contrary to its name, DirecTV Now is very much a service that might work better later.

Infinix Hot S Pro Review

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Infinix Hot S Pro Review

Infinix has a trio of the new handset for the Filipino consumers. We already review the Note 3 Pro and Hot 4. This time around, we’re looking at the Hot S Pro. It’s a sub-Php7k smartphone with a 5.2-inch display, LTE, and an octa-core chipset. It also boasts an aluminum back panel for added premium. Here’s our review.

Design and Construction

The Hot S Pro has a no-frill design with its candy-bar angular chassis. It’s got a 5.2-inch HD display resulting to a 282ppi pixel density. It may not break the 300ppi barrier but the smaller display size is a great option in the sea of large smartphones. Above the panel is a prominent 8-megapixel front-facing shooter and its earpiece along with hidden sensors. It uses three capacitive keys below for phone navigation and operation.

Sky Viper Hover Racer Drone Review

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Sky Viper Hover Racer Drone

The Sky Viper Hover Drone is a racing drone, but with a twist. Available for about $90, It comes with four beacons that the drone can detect. Place these around your flying field and you’ve created an impromptu racing track. A companion app records when the beacons are detected. The combination of drone, beacons and the free app allows you to time races or create an obstacle course that the drone has to navigate. If you have more than one Hover Drone, it also creates power-ups and power-downs that you can use on your opponents, Mario Kart-style. It’s a fun spin on the idea of drone racing, and the Hover Drone is a simple drone to fly.

Design

The Hover Drone itself is a medium-size quadcopter, measuring about 11 x 10.5 x 3 inches. It’s mostly made of black plastic with some colored plastic trim to give the drone a racing look. Four 4-inch, three-blade rotors surround the body, with each rotor surrounded by a plastic ring protecting the blades.

2016 Triumph Speed Triple R Review

Triumph’s updated Speed Triple, specifically the “S” base model, already impressed us tremendously once this year, when it finished second to the all-conquering Aprilia Tuono Factory in our little six-bike comparo jaunt up the coast of California in August. You could argue the Triumph won that one, really, since the Tuono’s $17K price tag has it really in a different category than the $13,200 Triumph(though the Speed Triple also came out on top of the $16,395 Ducati Monster 1200 S).

Last week, Triumph impressed us tremendously once again when it forked over the keys to a brand new “R” model Speed Triple for another little naked-bike comparo that’s currently rattling around in Tom Roderick’s head, where it again takes on the mighty Aprilia (this time the downmarket RR instead of the Factory), also the EBR 1190 SX and Yamaha FZ-10.
