Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art review

Does this standard zoom succeed at offering top-level performance for today’s era of high-resolution cameras?

Introduction

Users of full frame DSLRs and mirrorless cameras have a tough decision to make when choosing a standard zoom. Opt for one that covers a focal length of around 24-105mm with a maximum aperture of f/4 and you’ll typically find there’s a good saving to be made over a 24-70mm f/2.8. What you save in cost and gain in having a little more reach at the long end you lose out in terms of maximum aperture though. If you’re after a versatile zoom that performs as well in low light as it does creating a shallow depth of field wide-open, a pro-spec 24-70mm f/2.8 is definitely the way to go.

What I learned wearing a real time blood glucose monitor

Nutrition is about to get personal

Non-invasive blood glucose monitoring, the kind where you don’t have to draw blood to take a measurement, has long been wearable tech’s Holy Grail. “When will our watches be smart enough to tell us what and when to eat?” is a question we’ve been asking leading brands for years.

The first company that creates a smartwatch or a fitness tracker that reveals your blood sugar levels in real time, will have a game changer on their hands. It would dwarf Apple’s recent EKG innovation and see devices flying off the shelves.

Hyperkin Xbox One Duke Controller Review

The Hyperkin Xbox One Duke Controller review: You can now play games using the original Xbox controller, sort of.

Hyperkin Xbox One Duke Controller

What is the Hyperkin Xbox One Duke Controller?

Those of us old enough to remember the launch of the original Xbox, way back in 2001 (2002 outside the US) will most likely have a few things burned into our memories – Halo: Combat Evolved, Project Gotham Racing and the absolutely massive controller that came with the already-massive console.

The pad – later nicknamed the ‘Duke’ – would eventually be replaced with the smaller ‘Xbox S’ controller after feedback about the size and comfort the controller offered. Simply put, this was a controller not designed for smaller hands, and it sometimes resulted in uncomfortable or even impossible-to-reach buttons for some people.

LG OLED55B8PLA Review

What is the LG OLED55B8PLA?

The OLED55B8PLA is the cheapest OLED TV LG has ever made. This may well be all many AV fans need to hear before rushing off to the shops to buy one.

Before you do, though, you should note that unlike other entry-level LG OLED models of recent years, the OLED55B8PLA doesn’t deliver the same picture as its more expensive siblings. To keep its price down, it uses a less powerful video processor that does impact the picture quality.

The 2019 Acura ILX A-Spec Is More Compelling but Not Sportier

More features, lower price, but still lacking a definitive personality.

The latest and final model in the Acura lineup to adopt the brand’s current design language, the 2019 ILX sedan finally buries Acura’s chromed-beak aesthetic and receives a smattering of tech, interior, and cosmetic updates. The ILX continues to carry the brand’s torch in the entry-luxury segment, and Acura hopes that these revisions will put the Honda Civic–based sedan on the radar of younger buyers (millennials, to quote Acura) looking for an affordable, performance-oriented premium vehicle. The endgame, of course, is to keep them coming back to the brand as their tastes mature and incomes rise.

New Mac Mini 2018: What to expect from Apple’s rumoured Mac Mini Pro

New Mac Mini (2018): Release date, specs, price, and all the latest news

Mac Mini 2018

The Mac mini has been neglected by Apple since 2014, but rumours are heating up that a new Mac mini 2018 could be revealed today, which may act as a ‘Pro’ edition.

For those unfamiliar with the Mac mini, it’s a compact computer aimed at macOS users who want to get their hands on a compact Apple desktop computer, but without all the added pricey peripherals you’d find with an iMac. But since the Mac mini hasn’t had a refresh since 2014, the current range is lacking on the processor front compared to more modern machines.

New iPad icon lurking in iOS suggests no home button

Now that the week’s first big event has wrapped up, we can move onto speculation about the next one. Apple is set host another reveal event tomorrow in New York, and considering 2018’s iPhone line was just revealed in September, most of us are assuming that Apple will use the time to talk about what’s next for the iPad. As with most big announcements, there have been plenty of leaks and rumors, but information surfacing today is particularly interesting.

Apparently, there’s a new icon hidden within iOS that might give us an idea of the new iPad’s aesthetics.

Android security: Why Google’s demands for updates don’t go far enough

A minimum of five updates in two years just doesn’t cut it.

The 2019 Ford Series 1 Mustang RTR packs drift-worthy design

Ford’s new 2019 Series 1 Mustang RTR isn’t actually a drift car, but that doesn’t stop it from looking like one, and when it comes to standing out in the automaker’s best-selling coupe that’s perhaps all that matters. The handiwork of Ford Performance and RTR Vehicles, the Series 1 Mustang RTR package combines special suspension with distinctive looks, along with a splash of rarity.

It’s based on the Mustang EcoBoost or Mustang GT, and updates both the style and the performance.

Modular DJI Mavic 2 could save your life

Back in August, DJI introduced its new Mavic 2 line of drones, which at the time consisted of the Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom. Both of the drones are marketed toward end users of all varieties, but today, DJI is expanding the Mavic 2 line with a drone that’s made specifically with commercial applications in mind. That drone is the Mavic 2 Enterprise, and aside from the somewhat uninspired name, it sounds like a pretty capable machine.

On the surface, the Mavic 2 Enterprise doesn’t look a whole lot different from the Mavic 2 Pro. In fact, aside from different color bands on the propeller arms and a different camera attached to the underside, the Mavic 2 Enterprise and Pro look almost exactly the same.

Foldable phones are the future and Samsung could lead the way

The arrival of foldable phones are inevitable. The question now is less of when but in what form. There might be some that would look like the hip grandchilren of flip phones. Arguably, the more interesting ones will be the phones that fold into a tablet and back again. There is still some doubt as to whether that will just be a passing fad, just like notches or phablets. Foldable tablet-phones might actually be the only way forward given today’s smartphone usage trend. And Samsung might very well be the only one in that position to blaze a trail and prove what that future holds.

Apple Pencil 2 for iPad Pro could supercharge the stylus

New iPad Pro tablets may be the headline news for Apple’s big event this week, but the surprise star of the October 30 show may be an Apple Pencil 2. An updated, significantly upgraded version of Apple’s stylus is also believed to be on the cards, significantly expanding on functionality in the process.

The current Apple Pencil was launched alongside the iPad Pro back in late 2015. A $99 accessory for the tablet, it recognizes pressure and the angle at which the nib is placed against the tablets’ touchscreen. It also charges in a fairly unusual way, with a Lightning plug at the end.

The All-New Aston Martin Vantage Squares Off against the Mercedes-AMG GT and Porsche 911 GT3

We head to Kentucky with a trio of troublemakers to determine—oh, hell, we’re just doing this because it’s fun.

Like all good mountain roads, the byways squirming through the Appalachian foothills southeast of Richmond, Kentucky, look as if they were laid out by someone trying to scribble over something else. They barrel helter-skelter across the region’s topography, following meandering rivers and tap-dancing along ridgelines. They thread their way past the occasional derelict car, the sort a goat would be proud to stand atop, but otherwise blissfully few domiciles. They are, in other words, the perfect place to put three 500-hp sports cars to the test.

OnePlus 6T vs Pixel 3: Still worth backing the underdog?

The OnePlus 6T meanwhile focuses on improving the company’s design strategy and adding innovative physical features. These include basic things like a smaller notch and larger battery capacity, plus a cool new in-display fingerprint scanner.

OnePlus 6T vs iPhone XR: Can OnePlus’ best thwart Apple’s most basic?

OnePlus 6T vs iPhone XR: Kill or be killed?

With Apple’s ‘affordable’ 2018 iPhone arriving just days ahead of OnePlus’ newest player, the OnePlus 6T, there’s every chance that you might be split over which smartphone could be your next.

If so, beyond the obvious dichotomy of iOS and Android, the biggest difference between the two is price. The iPhone XR  costs significantly more than the OnePlus 6T, despite being the affordable option in Apple’s 2018 line-up.

OnePlus 6T vs OnePlus 5T: What’s new?

OnePlus 6T vs OnePlus 5T: A year on, what’s new?

The Panasonic DP-UB9000 is the company’s latest flagship 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player.
