Top Smartphones Above Php20K (Mid-2017)

We’ve officially kicked off our mid-year guide on the top smartphones you can buy here in the Philippines for a specific budget. Yesterday, we’ve shared the Top Smartphones Above Php30K and today, we bring down the price range to phones that cost no less than Php20K. Let’s begin!

Author’s note: The smartphones listed below are those that have officially launched in the Philippines from January to June 2017. The list is arranged in alphabetical order.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom

The ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom is not the company’s first “zoom” smartphone. In 2015, they released the original Zenfone Zoom, however, it didn’t get enough traction considering the price and competition. After two years, ASUS revived the Zenfone 3 Zoom with a fairly strong combination of premium build, dual rear cameras, capable specs, and large battery.

New Mazda CX-5 & Ford Kuga vs Skoda Kodiaq Comparison

Mazda’s spacious and upmarket new CX-5 aims to reclaim the large SUV crown – but first it has to beat our reigning champ, the Skoda Kodiaq, and Ford’s updated Kuga

So, you want an SUV. You’ve thought about a Nissan Qashqai or a Seat Ateca and like their cheap running costs, but they’re a little on the small side. What do you buy?

Well, the answer to that particular conundrum was, for many years, the Mazda CX-5. Big, practical and surprisingly good fun to drive, it was the go-to choice for anyone more concerned about value for money than a posh badge. But then along came the Skoda Kodiaq. Even bigger, much classier inside and yet similarly good value, it made the CX-5 seem rather old-hat.

Not one to take defeat lying down, Mazda is back with an all-new CX-5 that promises to fix some of its predecessor’s flaws – a low-rent interior and noisy road manners – without a big price hike. But Skoda and Mazda aren’t the only ones in this fight; Ford’s recently revised Kuga costs about the same and betters both for fuel economy.

Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC review

Do you yearn for some quiet time? Acknowledging the fact that many of us have to live, work and travel in chaotic surroundings these days, the Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC headphones are an effort to create the most affordable noise-cancelling headphones yet. Happily, they also sound great with music and movies.

And while the Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNCs are clearly aimed at travellers, their price point – around £170 (US$200, AUS$299) – puts them well within the reach of anyone after some mid-range headphones.

Considering that the market leaders, the Bose QuietComfort 35s, cost £330 (US$350, AUS$499) and the Sony MDR-1000Xs go for £289 (US$350, AUS$588), the significantly cheaper Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNCs are a tempting proposition indeed – especially as they offer almost identical features to those two main rivals.

Top Smartphones Under Php20k (Mid-2017)

Over the last two days, we’ve shared our lists of the top smartphones of mid-2017 with price ranges of above Php30k and above Php20k. Today, we look at the mid-rangers. All of the phones mentioned in this list are no less than Php10k and no more than Php20k. Let’s get started.

Author’s note: The smartphones listed below are those that have officially launched in the Philippines from January to June 2017. The list is arranged by price from highest to lowest.

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017)

Early this year, Samsung launched their new A-series phones in the country, specifically the Galaxy A7 (2017) and the Galaxy A5 (2017). While not much as changed here in size and form factor, under the hood, the new A5 sports a faster octa-core CPU, more RAM, and an improved camera.

DS Automobiles DS4 review: Flair and individuality, but at what cost?

DS Automobiles continues its march into independence, dropping the badges of its Citroen heritage as it tries to mark itself out as something different. The aim is it awaken the “spirit of avant-garde” in DS’ words. It’s about being French, about great design and looking to offer something different.

The DS4 sits in the mid-size hatchback category, against some of the best selling cars on the road, the likes of the Ford Focus or VW Golf.

In the Performance Line model on review here, there are decorative touches inspired by racing cars. But don’t make the mistake of thinking a Performance Line DS4 is anything like a Focus ST or Golf R on the road: this is still very much the rebadged Citroen that it’s trying not to be.

TaoTronics TT-BH07 review

TaoTronics makes some of the most popular pairs of earphones currently available at Amazon. They sell by the truckload because they are extremely cheap.

But are they worth buying?

The TaoTronics TT-BH07s are remarkably affordable Bluetooth wireless earphones, with amazing technical specifaction for the price.

There’s just one problem: they don’t sound good enough, and aren’t necessarily an upgrade on the earphones bundled with your phone.

Build

The TaoTronics TT-BH07s look, at a glance, like they might cost £80/$120 or more. They have a wire between the buds, unlike Apple EarPods, but also have aluminium backs with magnets – a staunchly ‘premium’ feature.

AOC PDS241 Porsche Design review

The AOC PDS241 Porsche Design aims to challenge the notion that monitors need to be simple and boring-looking rectangles, and persuade us that they can in fact be beautiful accompaniments to our PCs that anyone would be happy to have displayed on their desk.

As the name suggests, AOC has partnered up with famous design house Studio F. A. Porsche, best known for bringing contemporary and stylish designs to watches – and of course cars.

However, while the design is certainly exciting, on paper the specifications of the AOC PDS241 Porsche Design are rather less so, with a standard IPS 1080p screen with 60Hz refresh rate and a rather conservative screen size of 23.8 inches (there’s also a 27-inch version – the AOC PDS271).

This isn’t a monitor designed to dominate the desk, nor will it really appeal to gamers who demand high refresh rates and even higher resolutions.

Tibo Vogue 3 review

It’s rare to see wood used in the design of a wireless speaker, but manufacturers should take note of the Tibo Vogue 3 – it’s an example of how classy a product can look if it goes down the more traditional hi-fi path.

Not every wireless speaker needs to resemble a child’s primary-coloured toy.

More than just a multi-room wireless speaker, the Tibo Vogue 3 is part of what the British company is billing as “the world’s largest range of smart audio”.

Essentially, it’s compatible with the AI platform Alexa and will become friendly with Google Assistant technology later this year, joining the ominous march toward the First World’s “smarthome” future.

BenQ EW2770QZ review

The BenQ EW2770QZ is a large, solid screen that serves up interesting new technology across its 27-inch frame – but its $590 (about £454, AU$770) price looks a little high for a product that doesn’t hit 4K.

Instead of offering headline-grabbing features, though, BenQ is trying to make this panel a jack-of-all-trades unit that can get the job done at the office and with entertainment.

Design and Features

The headline figures on the BenQ’s spec sheet are all eminently sensible. The diagonal screen size of 27-inch and resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 are good for work and play: there’s more screen real estate for multiple windows and applications, and plenty of room to make 1080p footage look its best.

The best car interiors

With drivers spending more than a day a year sitting in traffic jams, we reveal the best car interiors in every class

They say it’s what’s inside that counts – and new research suggests that car buyers are really taking that to heart, prioritising an appealing interior over price, exterior styling and fuel economy.

What Car? asked 4000 consumers what they look for when choosing a new car, and more than half (56%) of those polled stated that a relaxing and quiet driving environment is crucial.

Almost as important is the quality of the interior finish, with 55% citing this as a priority. Fewer were concerned about price (54%), exterior styling (47%) and fuel economy (44%).

Brand and resale values were important to 34% and 25% respectively, while 19% of drivers rated connectivity features (such as Bluetooth and a wi-fi hotspot) as a crucial factor when buying new. Just 15% cited CO2 emissions.

HP Omen 17 (mid-2017, GTX 1070) review – the new Omen proves that OEMs sometimes pay attention to what users want

Kết quả hình ảnh cho HP Omen 17 (mid-2017, GTX 1070)

The previous Omen 17 generation was somehow decent but not good enough to go against the competition in most aspects. Now, HP comes in strong with completely overhauled Omen 15 and Omen 17 gaming laptops that address most of the issues we had before the update, although we had fewer complaints about the 17-inch version. Anyway, HP manages to surprise with cool new design, better choice of materials, much better keyboard, usable touchpad and immersive 120Hz IPS display. The good news is that the price hasn’t changed all that much making the upgrade worthwhile and probably makes the Omen 17 the best value notebook in this price range.

Most of the hardware from the previous generation is here to stay – Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU, up to 32GB of DDR$-2400 memory and M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD + 1TB HDD for storage. What’s new here is the expanded I/O – now the notebook has a USB-C 3.1 supporting Thunderbolt and a mini DisplayPort – and, of course, a new IPS panel that not only looks great but delivers buttery smooth gaming experience thanks to the fast 120Hz refresh rate and the support for G-Sync. So where’s the catch? Continue reading to find out more.

Motorola Moto C Review

Formally launched in the country this June, the Motorola Moto C features entry-level specs and a pure stock version of the latest mobile operating system from Google, something amiss from other handsets in its price range. Is it worth the Php3,699/$74 asking price? Find out in our full review.

Before we head into the main part, we’d like to clarify the Moto C version available in the Philippines is packed with a 1.3GHz Mediatek MT6580 chip, 8GB of internal storage, and 3G connectivity.

Design and Construction

The Moto C is reminiscent of recent Motorola designs. The front panel has the 2-megapixel front camera and an accompanying LED Flash, some front sensors, the call speaker, the 5-inch display, and three capacitive buttons that do not emit light.

Canon EOS 6D Vs Canon EOS 6D Mark II Comparison

Canon has introduced the Canon EOS 6D Mark II, 5 years after the Canon EOS 6D, here we look at the differences between the two cameras. Externally, the cameras look very similar, but there are a number of changes that have been made, mostly on the inside. External changes include a new vari-angle touch-screen, relocation of the flash sync socket (to the front), plus the addition of a focus button, next to the shutter release button.

Canon Eos 6d Vs 6d Mark Ii

The 6D features the DIGIC 5+ image processor, whilst the 6D Mark II features a new DIGIC 7 image processor. Canon has said that the higher resolution 6D Mark II should deliver better noise performance, thanks to the latest generation sensor technology and image processing. Continuous shooting speed has been improved, as well as the number of shots possible before slowing down, with a larger buffer.

5 things you need to know about the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF

Mazda isn’t going to build a coupe version of its iconic MX-5 Miata roadster, so please stop asking. What it will do is try to dip back into the nearly 50/50 split it had on the previous-generation Miata between soft-top and power-retractable hardtop models by way of the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF. Those two letters stand for ‘retractable fastback,’ and signal to buyers that this unique take on open-air motoring is as close to a fixed-roof Miata as you’ll find in the automaker’s current showroom.

Not quite a coupe and certainly not a traditional convertible, is the RF charming enough to attract the same level of interest from Miata buyers as the now-departed PRHT did? Check out these 5 things you need to know about the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF.

Five Reasons to Buy Surface Pro, Three Reasons to Avoid

If you are in the market for a detachable PC, Microsoft’s latest Surface Pro may be your best option. At a starting price of $799.00, Microsoft’s tablet / 2-in-1 offers a sophisticated design, a near flawless display and solid performance across the board.

However, this popular slate is far from perfect and it doesn’t come cheap. Here are five reasons to consider the Surface Pro and three reasons to go with something else.

Honor 9 Review: Watch out, OnePlus

Our Honor 9 review takes an in-depth look at the performance, battery life, camera tech and smart features of the 2017 Honor flagship phone. At just £380/$494 in the UK, is this really the affordable mobile we’ve all been waiting for?

The Honor brand by Huawei continues to offer solid tech at a great-value price, with the release of the shiny Honor 9. In fact, take a look at this handset’s specs and you’d be forgiven for confusing it with the Huawei P10, and not too surprising given Huawei manufactures the Honor blowers.

What is surprising is this mobile’s cost. While the P10 will still set you back over £550/$715 SIM-free, the Honor 9 is priced at just £380/$494. That’s quite a saving, given the near-identical specs.

In fact, the Honor 9 is considerably cheaper than its biggest rival right now, the OnePlus 5- which again offers premium specs for less cash than other flagship handsets.

Amazon Dash Wand review: A home shopping device made for a not-too-distant future

The Amazon Dash Wand won’t solve your pantry problems just yet, but it’s a cool device at a killer price.

amazon dash wand button

Amazon will sell you groceries, one way or another. Case in point: The day before it announced plans to buy Whole Foods for a cool $13.7 billion, it released Amazon Dash Wand, a small Alexa-powered gadget that will likely be just as integral to the company’s produce push.

Amazon’s new scanning stick is Jeff Bezos’s latest attempt to link the virtual world with the physical one. But even though it’s not Amazon’s first shot at a home shopping assistant, it’s definitely the first fully formed one. Combining the ease of a Dash button with the versatility of the relatively unknown Dash scanner and the smarts of an Echo, Dash Wand could be the thing that finally streamlines the way we buy groceries, and eliminates checkout lines, empty refrigerators, and even trips to the store. But that’s going to take a while.

2017 Harley Davidson CVO Street Glide Review

Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations department puts together what one could call showroom-custom bikes that include many of the features that buyers commonly add on post-sale and borrows much of the Infotainment system used on the big touring models. For 2017, this hot-rod bagger features a new-and-improved suspension system to the table with the all-new, 114 cubic-inch, Milwaukee-Eight engine. Power output falls well above the 100 pound-foot mark — not surprising with a CVO machine — so it falls into the power-cruiser/stoplight-burner category. Performance, good looks and barrels of that Harley mystique push the CVO Street Glide over the top in my book, so join me while I check out the details of this vanity-stoking sled.

Design

2017-cvo-streetglide-2_800x0w

The CVO SG leads the way with a cut-down front fairing that retains the full length of the classic dresserfender, but with shorter sides and no trim. The beer-can fork covers come shot in monochrome to tie the various elements together visually, which is nice, but I think I prefer chrome in that particular spot, myself.

Hands on: Origin M-X99 M-class review

EM3Fq4pu7UdCpBHGfBJwEm-650-80

Ask a room full of engineers, city analysts or designers whether they have ever heard of a computer company called Origin and the answer is likely to be no. However, conduct a similar quick show of hands when it comes to those using a workstation PC – of either the desktop or notebook variety – and the overwhelming majority are likely to say yes.

That’s the challenge (and opportunity) that US-based gaming and professional computer builder, Origin PC, faces. And with the Origin M-X99 M-class, the firm has a chance of making a great lasting impression with a product that delivers the sort of punch that can usually only be found from tier-1 manufacturers (think Dell, Lenovo or HP).

Origin PC has three workstation tiers (S-class, M-class and L-class which stands for small, medium and large respectively) with corresponding price points. We got hold of the M-class with the Fractal Define Mini C case (the other option being the Phantek Evolv).

Skullcandy Crusher Wireless review

Let’s lay things down nice and clear right now: if you don’t like bass, there are headphones out there that you will like more that the Skullcandy’s Crusher Wireless.

If, however, you do like bass – and we mean that heavy bass you hear in clubs and get from subwoofers – or you just like playing around with your audio then you’ll may enjoy these headphones. At the very least you’ll find them to be a lot of fun.

Design

As far as design goes, Skullycandy’s Crusher Wireless headphones don’t do anything particularly special. Taking something of a Batman approach, they’re dressed entirely in black and opt for a matte finish rather than any kind of gaudy shine. It really depends on your aesthetic preferences whether or not you find the simplicity of these headphones appealing or off-putting.

GTX 1050 Ti Battle: Dell Inspiron 15 7567 vs Acer Aspire VX 15 (VX5-591G)

Time for another comparison – this time we are taking a look at the Dell Inspiron 15 7567 and the Acer Aspire VX 15 (VX5-591G). In terms of performance, all Core i7-7700HQ/GTX 1050 Ti models on the market perform relatively the same but some of them feature premium features like a high-quality display e.g. ROG Strix GL553VE. The Inspiron 7567 and Aspire VX 15 do not fall into this category, they shine with something else – affordable price. These are two of the most affordable gaming notebooks with a GTX 1050 Ti GPU that you can find for under $1000.

It’s time to see which of the two is better worth your hard-earned money.

Kết quả hình ảnh cho GTX 1050 Ti Battle: Dell Inspiron 15 7567 vs Acer Aspire VX 15 (VX5-591G)

Design and construction

When it comes to a sub-$1000 gaming notebooks that packs powerful hardware you can’t expect much from the build quality and overall construction – manufacturers have to cut corners here and there to deliver high-performance at a reasonable price. This goes for our two models today – there isn’t anything particular that we might dislike about the build of both notebooks but there isn’t anything to boast about either.

Polar A370 Review: This Fitness Tracker Has Heart

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Polar A370

Polar’s new A370 fitness-tracking wristband is a course correction from its predecessor, the A360, which was lacking in a few key areas. The A370 improves upon the last-gen model, with continuous heart-rate monitoring, GPS (sort of), an easier-to-fasten band clasp and a new sleep-tracking tool called Polar Sleep Plus.

But the $179 A370 is also a direct shot at Fitbit, the category leader, with a handful of marquee features yanked straight from last year’s best-selling Fitbit Charge 2. Can Polar out-Fitbit Fitbit? Spoiler alert: no.

Design: Tweaks make a difference

The A370 looks almost exactly the same as the A360. Both have beautiful, bright, full-color TFT capacitive touch screens that show the time when you move your wrist. Fitbit’s Charge 2 also has a touch display, but I prefer the A370’s because it’s much longer and can show more information at a glance.

Moto E4 Review: Decent Budget Phone Has One Huge Flaw

The Moto E4 is a cheap smartphone with a decent 5-inch display that runs the latest Android software, complete with Google Assistant and an attractive textured design. It’s a tempting enough package to make anyone on a budget to take notice. So what’s the catch?

Available through Verizon for $69 and $99 unlocked through Amazon Prime ($129 without Prime), this phone seems ideal for teens, international travel or iOS users looking for a (cheap) first taste of Android. However, you’ll have to live with an unimpressive battery and it can run a bit hot under pressure.

Design and Specs

The 5-inch Moto E4 has a 720p display, quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a not-too-shabby 8-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera. You’ll find a fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone, a feature rarely included in this price range.

Huawei Watch 2 Sport review: New tricks and 4G’s a hit

The second-gen Huawei smartwatch, the aptly named Watch 2, arrives as part of the Android Wear 2.0 brigade and, therefore, with more features than its predecessor. The Watch 2 is also available in two finishes: Sport, as reviewed here, for the sportier type; and Classic, which is more reminiscent of the original.

Smartwatches have walked a strange path since they first appeared as they try to figure out exactly what they’re supposed to be. Huawei, like Apple, pitched its first watch as a style statement. It was about lifestyle bling. That position has been reassessed for the second-gen device, however, moving to promote sport a little more.

Does the Huawei Watch 2 Sport change direction down a successful, sporty path? We’ve been living with one for some weeks to assess…

JBL Control X Wireless review

As any good contortionist will tell you, flexibility is an important quality to have. The same is true, to an extent, of hi-fi.

When you’ve got great-sounding audio in the home, you’ll want the flexibility to have the same great sound outside for impromptu parties. That’s the pitch that JBL’s new Control X Wireless are putting forward, anyway.

Features

We expected Control X Wireless to be one speaker, but it’s a pair in a master-and-slave configuration. Your audio is sent to one speaker, and then wirelessly streamed to the second – as long as it’s within a 30m range.

Or, if you have two pairs of Control X Wireless, you can connect the four speakers together so audio sent to one master speaker is then shared to three slaves. And in order to get round the issue of having two master speakers, you can turn one of them into another slave speaker by flicking the toggle on the back.

Sony Xperia L1 Review: Budget Moto G5 rival phone

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Sony Xperia L1

Our Sony Xperia L1 review takes a close look at one of Sony’s most affordable phones of 2017. With its simple specs but typical Sony design, is the Xperia L1 a smart choice for anyone on a budget?

Sony Mobile has released a full range of handsets so far in 2017, offering a smartphone for pretty much any kind of budget. From the pricey Xperia XZ Premium (which boasts a 4K HDR screen) down to the great-value (and stunning) Xperia XA1, chances are you’ll find a Sony blower that’ll meet your everyday needs – without blowing the bank balance.

Even those on a strict budget are now catered for, with the UK release of the Xperia L1. This Sony handset cost just £150/$192 SIM-free, making it even cheaper than the Xperia XA1. The L1 is a direct rival to the likes of the Moto G5, Lenovo P2 and Huawei P8 Lite 2017, offering a full smartphone experience for under £200/$256.

Moov HR Sweat review : Accurate heart rate from the head combines with Moov’s great coaching skills

The Moov HR Sweat set out to deliver HIIT workouts with accurate heart rate monitoring and coaching that really pushes you. Did it achieve that? Yes it did, albeit you have to accept that wearing a pretty silly looking headband is part of the deal. Investing in the Moov Now is also something you need to factor in as well, otherwise you’re not going to reap the benefits of the great running and cycling workouts that are included. There’s a lot to like about the HR Sweat, but there’s also a few things that prevent us from loving it in the same we loved the Moov Now.

Kết quả hình ảnh cho moov hr sweat

The Moov HR Sweat is a fitness-focused wearable that’s all about monitoring heart rate-driven workouts and combining that with real-time coaching to make sure you’re really putting in the maximum effort.

Successor to the Moov and the Moov Now, winner of our Sports Wearable of the Year at the first ever Wareable Tech Awards, the HR Sweat is clearly trying to capitalise on the big HIIT (high intensity interval training) fitness trend that’s happening right now, where the emphasis is on more intense workouts for shorter periods of time.

HP Stream 11 (2017) Review

Don’t be fooled by the HP Stream 11’s cute, candy-hued exterior — it has some serious computing cred inside. The $200 HP Stream 11 delivers long battery life, great audio and strong performance for the price. HP cuts some corners by using a dim display and the laptop’s bottom gets uncomfortably warm, but the lightweight Stream 11 is one of the best sub-$200 Windows laptops on the market and a great choice for kids.

Design

You either love or hate the toy-like look of the updated HP Stream 11; there is no middle ground here. It comes in a vibrant aqua blue or purple, where the shade infuses everything from its horizontally grained cover to its touchpad, but not the white keyboard. This laptop could be a great choice for students who just want something fun and small to bring to school.. However, the Stream doesn’t look professional enough to bring to a meeting with corporate investors.

2017 Seat Ibiza FR First ride review – price, specs, release date

The new Seat Ibiza is a thoroughly excellent all-rounder, but do big alloys and stiffer suspension help or hinder this sporty FR version?

If you haven’t read our full 16-point review on the new Seat Ibiza, that’s probably where you should start. But to quickly sum up, we think it’s really rather good: fun to drive, pleasant to sit in, roomy and great value for money.

On regular suspension – fitted to S, SE and Xcellence trims – it’s remarkably comfortable. However, Seatexpects most buyers to be seduced by sporty looking FR trim, with its chiselled bodykit, twin exhausts and chunky 17in alloys – and that comes with lower and stiffer sports suspension, whether you want it or not.

On one hand, the sports suspension could make the Ibiza even more nimble and fun to drive. But even if it does, you probably won’t appreciate it if the payback is a punishingly firm ride. After all, the Ibiza FR isn’t a hot hatch – it’s just an everyday small car with a light dusting of sportiness.
