Sony SRS-XB40 Bluetooth speaker review

TnEohR7vwNuYoyJSBoKPwf-1200-80

Sony knows people love bass and has created a line of audio products that pack extra low end punch – the Extra Bass headphones and Bluetooth speakers.

The latest in the series, the SRS-XB40 is a big but portable Bluetooth speaker that delivers thumping bass, a light show and up to 24 hours of battery life.

On paper, the speaker looks like a feature rich speaker that provides good value at $250 (£200, about AU$340). However, after spending a week with it, we weren’t impressed by its sound quality and features compared to other similarly priced speakers.

Design

The Sony SRS-XB40 speaker features a traditional oblong bar shape of wireless speakers with its audio drivers facing one direction. You won’t find 360-degree sound here – like on the Bose Revolve – but the speaker can be paired with other Sony Bluetooth speakers to either amplify sound or to play in stereo.

2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 First Drive: Right-size off-roader offers high-tech romp

The sun has long since set on the stretch of Colorado 141 that I’m driving, eyes bleary, windshield smeared with grease and cheese from the pizza sitting on that dashboard that I scored in Grand Junction just before the entire city rolled up its streets and shut down for the night. I’ve been awake since four a.m., a victim of weather and mechanical gremlins forcing me out of the skies not once, but twice today, and sending me down this lonely road far later than planned. ‘Detroit Rock City’ is playing on the radio as I push Chevy’s latest pickup as quickly as I dare through the mountain passes, frantically racing sleep and exhaustion to the warm bed waiting for me while lightning frames the peaks that tower above with shocks of light, when I see it: walking down the opposite shoulder, looking right at me. Is that a damn bear? Yeah, that’s a damn bear.

Elgato Stream Deck Review: Too useful just for Twitch streamers

Elgato has earned a reputation for its gaming capture hardware, and many of the big game streamers rely on it to share their play to increasingly large audiences. Its newest product however, the Elgato Stream Deck, aims to help you raise your production game, with a set of customizable buttons that can trigger anything from Twitch messages to donation reactions. Clever, but after Optimus struggled to get its display-for-button keyboards to market, and Apple met with skepticism over the MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar, has Elgato managed to buck the trend?

Hardware

What makes the Stream Deck special are its fifteen keys. Each is about 15 mm square and topped with clear plastic. Underneath there’s an LCD panel which allows the legend for each key to be changed. Since Elgato’s software supports folders, you could theoretically have up to 210 different commands triggered from a single key layout.

2017 Mclaren 570GT By Wheelsandmore Review

While the McLaren 570GT is still considered a part of McLaren’s Sports Series line, its status as a premium version of the 570S effectively makes it an entry-level Super Series model. Regardless of where it stands in the pecking order of McLaren’s lineup, the 570 – be it with the ’S’ suffix or the ‘GT’ – is still attracting the aftermarket world. Novitec Rosso has a program for the 570S and now, it’s Wheelsandmore’s turn to present an aftermarket kit for the 570GT that promises power levels amounting to 650 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

Since this is Wheelsandmore we’re talking about, the whole program largely revolves around the supercar’s engine and wheels. Very little work was put into the exterior of the 570GT and even less so on the interior. The kit does have suspension upgrades, too, but considering what the 570GT is already capable of in that department, the improvements brought about by the height-adjustable springs are largely to help keep the front spoiler and underbody from getting damaged. Overall, the German tuner’s program for the McLaren 570 is a typically efficient and well-developed kit that spells massive improvements for the British supercar.

Hands on: Asus AsusPro B9440UA review

As the consumer laptop market starts to fizzle out and vendors look elsewhere to maintain profitability, there has been renewed interest in the enterprise/corporate market with the likes of MSI and Microsoft deploying business-friendly devices in a bid to improve their margins.

And you may not be familiar with it, but popular laptop manufacturer Asus does have a professional range – aptly named AsusPro – and its latest flagship model, the B9440UA, has just gone on sale.

Announced earlier this year at CES 2017, the device is aimed squarely at those aspiring to own a business laptop that can rival the likes of Apple’s MacBook Air or Dell’s XPS 13.

DmeHpwzc5XuaHhL6Yi9gJB-650-80

Why Asus didn’t simply go for a professional edition of the ZenBook, we’re not sure. The firm did make the Asus ZenBook Pro UX501, but that was launched nearly two years ago, and at 2.27kg, it’s too heavy to be considered as a thin-and-light laptop (rather, this model had the Apple MacBook Pro firmly in its sights).

2017 BMW HP4 Race Review

Public demand for race-ready road bikes has never been higher, and the folks down at the Bayerische Motoren Werke are trying to take that momentum to the bank with its HP4 Race. Like many of its track-day competitors have recently done, BMW set about the business of mini-mass producing a bike that carries as much of its factory-team race gear as they are comfortable sharing with the world. However, the factory isn’t risking much in this bid for a slice of the hardcore race-fan market with a limited-edition run of 750 hand-built units, so in addition to the obvious attraction of the technology and power we can add rarity to the curb appeal. Here we have a 215 horsepower engine pushing the world’s first all carbon-fiber frame with a veritable alphabet soup of features that are surely indispensable for racers looking for an edge.

Elac Uni-Fi BS U5 Slim review

Elac’s new speaker range should come with a Slimming World badge to acknowledge the fact they carry a little less weight than most speakers that arrive in our test rooms. The clue is in the name: the Uni-Fi BS U5 Slims are indeed slim speakers.

The new Uni-Fi Slim range, comprising a pair of floorstanders, a centre channel and these Uni-Fi BS U5 Slim standmounters, is the latest brainchild of British speaker designer Andrew Jones.

It’s a narrower (albeit taller and deeper) ‘European-friendly’ version of the brand’s Uni-Fi series.

Build and compatibility

Though we wish some of the trimming had gone into that mouthful of a name, we can’t argue with the design logic. No wider than the speaker stands we position them on, the Uni-Fi BS U5 Slim’s cabinets are an interior designer’s delight.

2016-2017 Triumph Bonneville T100-T100 Black Review

Triumph started the Bonneville legacy all the way back in 1959, and it is a name that the factory is still taking to the bank today. The newly-repowered “Bonnie” T-100 and T-100 Black boast an all-new, 900 cc mill set in what is more or less a T-120 chassis. At 59 horsepower, the T-100 plant makes for a newbie-friendly riding experience while the weight savings around the bike imparts a nimble nature that you don’t really feel with the big-brother T-120. Classic looks abound on the base model, while the “Black” takes a turn down memory lane to the heyday of garage custom standards with a large dose of blackout treatment for a more sinister look. So, not only do we have a bit of a spread on design, but we also have a balanced machine that can introduce folks to the joys of riding while remaining fun enough to keep experienced riders interested. If that sounds good to you, read on to see what else the T-100 family has to offer.

ZTE Blade X Max Hands-on Review – budget smartphone: specs, performance, price, release date

ZTE company can not be called the leading smartphone manufacturer. But it offers a wide range of devices:  there are super budget phones, and very expensive ones. Today we talk about new smartphone ZTE Blade X Max.

Review ZTE Blade X Max - budget smartphone: specs, performance, price, release date

ZTE Blade X Max: Design

New smartphone ZTE Blade X Max looks uninteresting. Nowadays every company makes try to make something interesting and attractive in appearance of smartphones, but ZTE don’t follow this trend.

The smartphone seemed to come to us from 2010-2013: frames take a lot of space on the screen. Although smartphone is made of metal, it is stylized for some cheap plastic. The navigation buttons are circles. In other words, we are very upset with the design ZTE Blade X Max.

Everything you need to know about Microsoft’s Mixed Reality headsets

The cheaper alternative to Microsoft HoloLens is coming

Microsoft is already firmly involved in the world of AR with HoloLens, but its VR headsets, which have been dubbed Windows Mixed Reality, are set to arrive on the scene soon.

One of the goals of Mixed Reality is to bring “powerful and affordable VR” to people. But, at the same time, Microsoft is aiming to make Mixed Reality stand out from efforts from Oculus, HTC and PlayStation.

As we inch toward the public debut of Windows Mixed Reality in holiday 2017, Microsoft and its partners are slowly but surely dripping and dropping little tidbits of information for us to consume. That can make it a little hard to keep up with what’s happening, who’s involved, as well as the latest price points, release date, specs and design decisions.

Creative Sound BlasterX Kratos S5 2.1 gaming speakers review

I’ve been playing games for years, yet I’ve always used a pair of cheap Dell speakers for my PC. I never thought much of PC speakers for gaming, instead always using headsets, but when Creative offered their Sound BlasterX Kratos S5 gaming speakers to be reviewed, it piqued my curiosity, and I had to try them out. Would I enjoy gaming with speakers versus a headset? Let’s find out.

I had one hiccup when it came to setting up these speakers. My desk simply wasn’t built for them! My previous set of speakers sat above my head on the top of my hutch, but that’s not the optimum place for gaming. With the hutch, my monitors have to be smaller to accommodate, and therefore I have two monitors side by side, forcing me to use the top for my speakers. For game testing, I placed them surrounding a single monitor, but for day to day use, I had to set them behind each monitor.

Dell Chromebook 3180 Review

Educators often like to use Chromebooks in the classroom, because laptops with Google’s operating system are easy to use and hard to infect with malware. To meet students’ needs, a number of laptop makers have built durable, low-cost Chromebooks that can take a beating and handle elementary school curricula without breaking the bank. Starting at $229 ($259 as tested), Dell’s 11-inch Chromebook 3180 is a solid but unremarkable choice for schools, combining all-day battery life, a tough design and a set of LED lights on the back of the lid that students can use to virtually raise their hands in class.

Design

The Dell Chromebook 3180’s design is very basic. The outside is a muted black with the Dell logo in the center of the cover and a Chrome logo in one corner. Another corner has a narrow white bar, which is actually a three-color light (red, yellow and green) that can be used in a classroom to notify the teacher that child has a question or needs help (like raising a hand). The corners are rounded, and the surface of this Chromebook feels slightly rough. There is a rubber-like ring around the outside of the bottom of the computer to help absorb shocks.

2017 Ford GT First Drive: When brute-force and beauty collide

There are few moments in life so memorable that they burn deep into every single fiber of your body. For me, one such moment came the first time my index finger pushed up against the 2017 Ford GT’s ignition start button. Two years after the GT’s shock unveil at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, the build-up of anticipation until I was behind the wheel and seated inches in front of the mid-mounted 647 horsepower, 550 lb-ft of torque twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine could’ve gone one of two ways. As the hardly-tamed beast roared to life, would the GT live up to its supercar promise?

To understand the new GT properly, you first have to go back. Far further into the history books than this car’s unexpected Detroit reveal, and all the way to the 1960s and the original Ford GT40. A Le Mans winning middle-finger from the American automaker to its European rivals, it earned a place in the history books, and how. Ford resurrected the name in 2004 with the first-generation GT, making just over 4,000 of a car that clung so closely to the original’s appearance that it bordered on the pastiche.

Urbanears Stadion review

urbanears-stadion-09

Sweden-based Urbanears’ Stadion ($99, £79 or approximately AU$140) is a bit of a different take on a wireless Bluetooth sports headphone, with a unique coiled cable that looks like an old telephone cord — for those who remember what that is.

The idea is that instead of having any dangling wires to deal with, the coiled cable rests snugly on the back of your head with just enough tension to keeps the buds securely in your ears. They reminded me a little of Arriva headphones, but their coil is much tighter.

The Stadion, which comes in multiple color options, includes a few different sized EarClick tips to lock the bud in place, and one should fit your ear. The largest one worked for me.

Overall I was impressed with the fit, and while the design isn’t not for everyone, I found the headphones worked really well for running and were comfortable to wear. They’re sweat-proof and come with a nice carrying pouch.

2017 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin Vs. KTM 1090 Adventure R

Since its introduction, the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin hasn’t stopped drawing comparisons to some of the best off-road-oriented Adventure-Tourers in the category, an honor it comes by honestly seeing as it’s such a great motorcycle.

The Africa Twin’s surprisingly dirt-worthy performance, its fairly light weight, simplicity and relatively economical $13,299 MSRP (for the manual 6-speed model) have made it a sales success. Honda seems to have remembered what a lot of other OEMs have forgotten, namely that complexity and weight can be the enemy.

Well, apparently KTM got the message, because for 2017 the Austrian dirtbike giant has released a new, relatively stripped-down 1090 Adventure R model to replace the 1190 Adventure R and create a little more separation from their new flagship 1290 Super Adventure R. Perhaps most tantalizing is the 1090 Adventure R’s more affordable MSRP of $14,699.

ASUS Republic Of Gamers GX800 Review: Even Crazier Than The Last one

We review the ROG GX800!

Insanely-specc’d notebooks with even crazier prices is fast becoming the norm nowadays. When ASUS released their twin-GPU packing, liquid-cooled ROG GX700 last year, we honestly thought it would be a one-off product, released to show off the company’s technical prowess to the public and their competitors.

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/pMFWurWNjuA”]Picture 10 of 12[/su_youtube]

But here we are in 2017 with its follow-up, the ROG GX800. It was only natural for ASUS to release a refreshed model this year, as their domestic rival in Taiwan has released an equally insane notebook of their own. But unlike Acer, ASUS’ offering is only a refresh of last year as the company seems to have found the winning formula for providing the craziest gaming notebook ever without going off the deep end.

MSI GE62 VR Camo Squad Hands-on – Unboxing, Quick Review: Weapon Of Choice?

Does the new notebook offer something more than a fancy skin?

MSI is a formidable name when it comes to PC gaming. Aside from producing gaming components the company also builds and sells value-for-money gaming notebooks, competing with domestic rivals ASUS and now Acer (with their Predator gaming line) for precious customers. Today we’ll be unboxing their limited edition MSI GE62 VR Camou Squad bundle, which sees their GE62 VR swathed in a distinct digital camo skin to make it stand out from the pack.

Packaging and contents

The notebook we’re unboxing today is part of MSI’s Camo Squad of products, covering their GE62VR 7RF and 7RE gaming notebooks, Trident 3 desktop PC, Z270 motherboard and a GTX 1060 GPU. The main differentiator here is that members of the Camo Squad get that nice digital desert camouflage (which looks a lot like the desert version of the US Marine Corps’ MARPAT camo) and a free copy of Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), or simply drones, are becoming more and more common these days and they offer a wide range of uses. There are the small and unique drones that are simply for the fun of flying a remote-controlled toy while there are also consumer drones for hobbyists. Then there are the industrial and rescue drones that serve more important purposes.

Citroen Berlingo v Fiat Doblo v Volkswagen Caddy comparison

Small vans at small prices – that’s the mantra for this test, with three value-focused compact cargo carriers going against each other to find out which is the best small van you can get.

The three vans we have here may not be household names to the majority of passenger car buyers, but if you own a small business – say you’re a florist, plumber, painter, baker or any number of other professions – there’s a chance you know the Citroen Berlingo, Fiat Doblo and Volkswagen Caddy.

The latter is the best-known by buyers when it comes to the three short-wheelbase vans here, with Volkswagen‘s smallest van accounting for nearly half of all small van sales year to date.

We desperately wanted to include the second-best-selling van in the segment, the Renault Kangoo – which was updated earlier in 2017 to critical acclaim – but despite our best efforts and months of notice, Renault Australia couldn’t manage to supply us with a vehicle. Disappointing, we know, but rest assured we’ll aim to get into a Kangoo SWB when possible.

Waterfi Waterproofed Kindle Paperwhite review: A great e-reader that’s completely protected from water damage

If you need a waterproof e-reader, the Kobo Aura H2O is a better value; but if you’re locked into Amazon’s Kindle ecosystem, Waterfi’s offerings are worth the price of admission. That’s especially true if you own a Kindle Paperwhite that’s free from Amazon’s “special offers” and just want it waterproofed for $99.

If waterproof is high on your checklist of e-reader must-haves, we recommend that most people consider the Kobo Aura H20. It’s a capable e-book reader designed to stand up to the occasional poolside splash or even an extended soak in a hot tub. For anyone already invested in Amazon’s extensive collection of DRM-protected e-books, periodicals and comic books, however, investing in another company’s incompatible hardware could be a less than attractive proposition.

Blue Microphones Satellite wireless headphones review: Active noise cancellation you can celebrate

The Satellite don’t have every feature you might want in traveling headphones, but they sound fantastic and their excellent onboard amp will reveal intricate details in your favorite music.

Blue Microphones has finally convinced me that active noise cancellation needn’t be a crime against nature. Call me old-fashioned, but the concept of battling noise by introducing noise—albeit of an opposite frequency, so that the two sound waves theoretically cancel each other out—has long been anathema to me. If the driver is producing noise at that frequency, after all, how effective can it be at also producing music at that frequency?

Blue’s solution seems so obvious that you have to wonder why they’re the first to implement the idea: They put two drivers in each ear cup. There’s a 44mm set for reproducing music, and an independent 30mm set dedicated to active noise cancellation. Four omidirectional microphones monitor your listening environment and pick up the ambient noise that’s to be cancelled.

Canon EOS M6 Review

Introduction

Canon continues to develop its EOS M range of compact system cameras (CSC) through the EOS M6, a diminutive camera packed with the sort of features one would expect from a Canon DSLR.

Aimed at enthusiast photographers, the EOS M6 replaces the two-year-old EOS M3 and is similar to the EOS M5, save for the exclusion of a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF). Without a built-in EVF, the EOS M6 is significantly cheaper than the EOS M5 (and smaller), though there is an optional EVF available.

New camera systems take time to mature – we’ve seen it again and again that a camera might take several versions before realising its potential. Relatively speaking, the Canon EOS M range is the new kid on the compact system camera block (coming a good 5 years after Olympus), but the range has been present for 5 years now, which should have provided enough time to come into its own.

8 Galaxy S8 Problems and How to Fix Them

Galaxy S8 Troubleshooting

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 has earned rave reviews from users far and wide for its sleek design, immersive Infinity Display and great performance. And, unlike the Galaxy Note 7, the S8 has proven pretty reliable (at least so far). However, the S8 isn’t flawless.

From reports of red screen problems to claims that some S8 speakers stop playing audio, evidence shows the handset has caused issues for some users. Fortunately, Samsung has moved rather rapidly to address the problems. And in some cases, the flaws can be fixed without the company’s intervention.

Here’s a look at the Galaxy S8 issues and how to fix them.

Microsoft Surface Laptop vs Dell XPS 13: Face-off!

The Dell XPS 13 may be our favorite overall laptop, but Microsoft’s Surface Laptop is coming into town like a gunslinger looking to take over as the new sheriff. While we’re excited to put the Surface Laptop through the paces of our comprehensive review, it’s not too early to look at how it stacks up (on paper) against the XPS 13 notebooks we know and love.

Of course, since many versions of each exist, we’re not making just one comparison. Instead, we’ll see how the $999 models of the notebooks compare, as well as a face-off between one of our favorite configurations of the Surface Laptop ($1,299) and a $1,257 touchscreen version of the XPS 13.

Design

Simply put, these are sexy beasts. The XPS 13’s soft-touch deck and machined aluminum lid combine for a sleek look, but the Surface Laptop wowed us on sight with its aluminum lid and stylish Alacantra-fabric keyboard deck that looks super comfy and just as elegant.

5 Things you need to know about the 2017 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro

The 2017 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro seems prepped to bridge the gap between traditional, ‘yeah, it’s got four-wheel drive’ pickup fare and hardcore desert-racing rides like the Ford F-150 Raptor. The full-size truck delivers when it comes to attitude, and it certainly boasts all the right upgrades to tackle extra-harsh terrain, but at the same time it maintains a veneer of civilization that makes it livable on a daily basis.
