Ricoh GR II Silver Edition to launch in limited quantities soon

Ricoh is commemorating its 80th anniversary with the launch of a Ricoh GR II Silver Edition.

This camera model is, of course, silver in color, and it will be produced in limited quantities for global distribution. The GR II, which was launched last summer, will be the same as the regular model otherwise, including the same very svelte form factor coupled with the same high-end features and image quality.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 leaked, no S Pen in sight

Samsung has more or less consolidated its Android tablets along specific lines. The Galaxy Tab A was, more or less, designed with productivity in mind, with a model that even had an S Pen stylus. It has been a while since Samsung expanded that line but it might soon do so. A small leak has revealed that a 7.0-inch variant might be coming soon. Unsurprisingly named the Galaxy Tab A 7.0, this tablet still bears the hallmarks of a mid-range slate. This time, however, it seems that there might not be an S Pen hiding inside.

Surprise: The Lexus LC 500h hybrid is coming to Geneva

After the surprise unveil of its new flagship grand tourer in Detroit last month, Lexus will bring the hybrid version of its sinuous coupe to the Geneva Motor Show. The Lexus LC 500h will keep the sleek, concept-esque body of its gas powered predecessor, the LC 500, but wrap it around a new powertrain that should give the eco-conscious slightly fewer sleepless nights.

Although rumors of a production version of the original LF-LC concept had been circulating for some years, there was no shortage of dropped-jaws in Detroit come January when Lexus showed exactly how close to that design its production car would stick.

Hulu gets a universal Windows app and Cortana support

For many years, I’ve wondered when Microsoft would get around to having a unified platform. They’ve had a desktop OS, smartphones, gaming consoles, and even an MP3 player for ages now, but they were always very different devices that only barely communicated with each other. Only with the release of Windows 10 has Microsoft been able to create a truly unified platform. Today, Hulu has joined that platform by releasing their universal Windows 10 app.

Adobe Photoshop Sketch Review with iPad Pro and Apple Pencil

Over the past week and a half I’ve been using the app Adobe Photoshop Sketch for iOS with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. It’s not what I expected. I expected it to be an experience in which the stylus (the Apple Pencil) would be speedy and the app would have simple basics. As it turned out, the Apple Pencil is speedy, yes, but latency is so extremely small it’s as if the hardware were made for this app specifically. This goes for the app interacting with the Pencil as well – tapping between brushes and backing up and drawing – all of this felt entirely natural.

The app Adobe Photoshop Sketch is made for painting pictures. I’d say it was made for drawing, but that’d be confusing due to the name of Adobe’s very similar app called Adobe Illustrator Draw.

2016 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Review

How is it possible for an automaker’s best-selling vehicle to be the one that’s landed the farthest from the tree in terms of brand identity? In a world where the Porsche name is synonymous with segment-defining sports cars, the great paradox is that the Porsche Cayenne SUV remains the most popular model in the showroom, outselling the 911 and the Boxster by a huge margin.

What’s even more notable is that the Cayenne achieves this stunning success despite not really feeling like anything else Porsche has ever built. It may look like a member of the Stuttgart-sourced family, inside and out, but on the road (or off) it comports itself entirely differently from its two-door brethren. This is no accident.

Samsung Galaxy Note 6 said to have 6GB RAM, 5.8-inch screen

Given how the Samsung Galaxy S7 has practically been leaked to death and how near we are to its unveiling, it is perhaps time to start warming up the rumor mill for things still far, far away. For example, perhaps it’s time to speculate on the Galaxy Note 6, which is still a good half year away. According to this premature rumor, the S Pen powered phablet will actually increase in size, both in display with a 5.8-inch screen, as well as in RAM, with a whopping 6 GB.

MacBook USB-C recall instructions tell if you’re affected

Apple’s first USB-C MacBook release included a cord which had a bit of a hardware flaw – one that the company is now in the process of fixing. For those of you that’ve purchased a MacBook in the past several years, there’s one simple way of figuring out whether or not you MAY be affected.

If your power cord is a MagSafe connector (magnetic, as the name implies), you do not need to worry. From there, if you’re a USB-C sort of user, there’s one more check.

Mattel readies to launch Google Cardboard View-Master

It seems that Mattel has gotten into the habit of resurrecting defunct products and giving it a 21st century twist. Just recently it has made the creative yet formerly dangerous “Creepy Crawlers” ThingMaker and turned into a still creative but safer 3D printing ecosystem. Now it is the venerable View-Master’s turn. Partnering with Google, Mattel has transformed the toy into a more sophisticated and tech savvy toy by remolding the View-Master into a customized Google Cardboard that promises to deliver educational virtual and augmented reality experiences for kids and students.

LG X series bringing camera, screen choices to mid-range at MWC 2016

LG has seemingly adopted a new strategy. Doing aways with its previous generations of smartphones, the Korean OEM is taking a new approach that seemingly addresses specific needs instead of a broad market based on price tags. Saying that not one size fits all, it has debuted the K series with, supposedly, a focus on wallet-friendly smarpthone photography. Now it is announcing another new series, this time starting with the letter “X”. The LG X cam and X screen only share the same name, and maybe the same price range, but their purposes are distinctly different.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF8 puts even more emphasis on selfies

A new Panasonic digital single lens mirrorless camera (DSLM) has arrived in town and the camera maker is unabashedly marketing it not just to selfie lovers but, curiously, primarily to women as well. The follow up to last year’s GF7, the new Lumix GF8 takes after its predecessor in the selfie department. But it tries to do one better, not exactly upping the specs, which are mostly identical, but by introducing new features available in selfie mode that could delight that kind of avid digital photographer.

Microsoft HoloLens team teases more Galaxy Explorer pieces

Augmented reality may have had a very short period of hype on mobile devices, but may get a new lease on life with Microsoft’s HoloLens. AR might be fun for games but Microsoft , one of AR’s current biggest advocates, is trying to show how the technology can be harnessed for more than just entertainment. Like education and research, for example. That might be the key motivation behind Galaxy Explorer, one of the AR projects being developed by Microsoft’s HoloLens team. And now that team is giving a few peeks at the prototype.

Revamped Apple TV remote app for iPhone coming soon

If there was one negative aspect about the new Apple TV that users discovered at launch, it was limitation on performing searches and entering text with the set-top box’s included remote. Fortunately, Apple soon released the tvOS 9.1 update late last year improving voice search capabilities with Siri, and another update is on its way that will allow users to take advantage of dictation for text entry via the remote’s mic. But the next big advancement that Apple has planned is using an iPhone to replace the remote altogether.

2016 Volvo S60 T5 Inscription Review: Chinese takeout

Volvo is on a roll right now, its XC90 SUV named North American Truck of the Year and anticipation levels high for the S90 sedan unveiled in Detroit last month. Even smooth-talking Swedes can’t sustain a whole company on two flagships, however, and so the meat of the range remains the leftovers from before Geely’s purchase of the brand.

For the midsize segment that means the S60, currently on Volvo’s list for a complete refresh, but benefiting from the Drive-E engine revamp of the 2015 model year. 2016 brings another new variant, too: the S60 T5 Inscription.

Nextbit Robin: A Modest Proposal and our 3 first impressions

Day 1 with the Nextbit Robin, a smartphone that puts unused apps and media in the cloud to keep the burden of storage off its user. I’m already impressed. Instead of attempting to create another unit that more of less drives toward smartphone aesthetic singularity, this device has a strong, blatantly design-conscious look.

It’s not for everyone. It’s not even for most people. This device is not meant to do battle with Apple and/or Samsung. And it’s not going to do battle with either one. Instead, this device is doing something unique.

2016 Land Rover LR4 Review

In our remix-obsessed culture, it’s reassuring to come across something that’s managed to endure the ebb and flow of fashion, and stay true to the qualities that have made it such an appealing part of the cultural landscape for so many years. I’m talking, of course, about the 2016 Land Rover LR4, the luxury box that defies convention by remaining wholly dedicated to the brand’s original SUV formula.

Samsung Gear S2 v Moto 360 2: Second-generation smartwatches go head to head

The announcement of the Samsung Gear S2 and new Moto 360 2 at IFA 2015 was the starting pistol on the second generation of smartwatches.

Motorola’s first Moto 360 was a hit and its second hasn’t been a flop either. Samsung’s Gear line has been more miss than hit, but the newest Gear S2 is a fantastic piece of hardware.

They’re not the high profile Apple Watch, but both second-gen devices have carved out a solid place at the top of the smartwatch podium by figuring out what people like and dislike from the first iterations – much before the days of Apple’s wrist-ware.

Asus F555LA Review

For the fairly low price of $375, most people will only expect the basics from a mainstream computer, but the Asus F555LA offers some important extras. This notebook features a slick design, relatively powerful speakers and a full 1080p screen, where most manufacturers settle for a lesser 1366 x 768 display. The keyboard is a little too bouncy for our tastes, but frugal consumers looking for a 15-inch laptop will get good bang for their buck.

Canon EOS 1D X Mark II vs 1D X: What’s new?

In 2016 it’s the year of the pro DSLR once again: the Canon EOS 1D X Mark II follows hot on the heels of the Nikon D5, which was announced a month earlier at CES 2016, but how does this full-frame pro-spec DSLR compare to its 1D X original?

We handled the Mark II model ahead of its official announcement to get a feel of the camera, but also break-down the key areas of difference between new and old.

Camera Face-Off: Can an iPhone Beat a DSLR?

Smartphones have already driven point-and-shoot cameras to the point of extinction. Will DSLRs soon join those cameras on the endangered species list?

The logic makes sense. After all, when you already have a phone in your pocket capable of capturing high-quality images, why lug around another device? If you believe what phone makers like LG say, smartphones already rival their big and bulky brethren in picture quality.

2016 Husqvarna 701 Supermoto and 701 Enduro First Ride Review

Husqvarna Motorcycles is diving back into the on-road segment in 2016 with two new large displacement single-cylinder models, the 701 Supermoto and 701 Enduro. While these two models are new to the Husqvarna lineup they are not altogether new machines. The 701 Supermoto and 701 Enduro share platforms not only with each other, but also with the KTM 690 SMC (not sold in the US) and the KTM 690 Enduro. There are key differences like bodywork and the Husqvarna’s use of a trick polyamide rear subframe with an integrated fuel tank, much like the KTM 690’s, but the Husqvarna holds a bit more fuel. The Husqvarna 701 Enduro also has a bit more wheel travel than the KTM 690 Enduro. The Husqvarna models use a very different seat as well, which wraps around and down the sides of the shroud, providing plenty of room to move around on the bike comfortably.

2016 Suzuki GSX-S1000F vs Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Comparison Review

Kawasaki’s Ninja 1000, winner of our 2014 Middleweight Sport-Touring Shootout, faces a direct challenge in 2016 from Suzuki’s all-new GSX-S1000F. These two Inline-Four powered literbikes both deliver sporty performance but in a more street-friendly package than their track-focused Superbike siblings. They represent an enticing option for sportbike riders willing to trade top-end horsepower for a broader more usable powerband, as well as ditch cramped track-biased riding positions for more relaxed upright ergonomics. These bikes are versatile too, capable of carving up canyons, tackling commutes and running up the odometer during an extended weekend away from home. And it doesn’t hurt that they’re several thousand dollars less expensive than their Superbike analogs either. Practical and affordable, we’ve been eager to compare the Ninja 1000 and GSX-S1000F side-by-side where their similarities and differences were revealed out on the open road.

BMW C 600 Sport & C 650 GT First Ride Review

If BMW—a brand always associated with high-end, performance-oriented premium cars and motorcycles—were to build a scooter, what would it be like? Well, it wouldn’t be the cheapest on the market, that’s a safe guess. But you could also safely assume it would be technologically advanced, have lots of luxury-oriented features, be incredibly refined and engineered and be fast enough to hold its own in any sort of paved environment.

Triumph Daytona 675R First Ride Review

Spoiler Alert! The 2013 Triumph Daytona 675R is one of the best, if not the best, sportbikes I have ever had the chance to throw a leg over. I just figured I’d get that out of the way first, as it’s really all I’ve been thinking since I departed Circuito Cartagena in Southern Spain last week. Asus ZenBook Pro UX501 review: Plenty of pros with some amateur lows

First things first: forget the “Pro” bit. The Asus ZenBook Pro UX501 isn’t some stuffy laptop meant to display dreary Excel spreadsheets in glass-walled meeting rooms for people in suits.

The name undersells how fun this laptop can be. As well as looking great it squeezes-in an Nvidia GeForce GTX960M graphics card, letting you play any current game without paring the graphics down to 16 colours and a fistful of polygons. And Asus has just updated the range to feature the latest IntelSkylake CPUs too.

Its only big problem is that the Dell XPS 15 is out, and that has a more dynamic design and pretty much the same specs. Is Asus still in with a shout?
