DJI Mavic Air vs DJI Spark: Worth the upgrade?

With DJI having launched the massively popular and very portable Mavic Pro in the second half of 2016 and the palm-sized smaller Spark last year, it was hard to see where the Chinese drone king was going next.

As it turns out, the company has squeezed in another product right in between those two, creating a quadcopter that takes the best of both worlds.

Intel 760P SSD review: This affordable NVMe delivers on read speed, falters on writes

The 760P ships at near SATA prices, and topped 2GBps reading, but sustained writes are almost as slow as SATA.

We were ready to love this NVMe SSD because of its superlow price, but while indeed it is near the price of SATA, so is the sustained write speed. That said, in everyday use, you will see that NVMe kick in the pants performance.

Intel is marketing its 760P NVMe SSD and cohort as “NVMe speed for not much more than the cost of SATA,” a slower and more affordable interface. That speed is exactly what you get the vast majority of the time. But on occasions when you copy more data than the drive’s caching system can hold, you also get sustained write speed that’s only a little faster than…SATA. Sorry, Intel brought it up.

Nissan Leaf (2018) review: Electric for the people

While many manufacturers are posturing and pontificating about plans for the electrification of their cars, Nissan is releasing a proper second-gen electric vehicle, the new Nissan Leaf.

The world has changed a lot since the 2010 launch of the original Leafand electrification is very much on the agenda for everyone.

While a company like Tesla might be taking many of the headlines and adding a spark to electric cars, it’s Nissan who has the wealth of experience and in reality, the Leaf is probably the car that suits more UK drivers.

So is this the hottest electric car on the road?

Azio Retro Classic review: Backlit mechanical keyboard offers vintage style

My first typewriter was grandma’s old 1933 Royal Model 10-S, and those vintage keys spit out thousands of pages during my formative teenage years before the arrival of word processors. I still miss the firm, satisfying snap of metal keys, which I’ve never been able to replicate on Mac keyboards.

Leave it to Azio, a company known for sturdy mechanical keyboards aimed at gamers and hardcore typists, to come up with the next best thing. The Retro Classic ($190, available on Amazon) combines modern technology with vintage good looks in a new line of luxury keyboards that offer the same type of circular keys I grew up with.

Vintage style

The first thing you’ll notice is how solid this keyboard is, weighing in at a hefty 3.5 pounds thanks to a polished alloy frame. There’s a small brushed aluminum plaque bearing the model name coated in glossy lacquer paint, an impressive touch. This is one of the most handsome personal computer accessories I’ve ever used, featuring the kind of tactile, clicky mechanical keys I love.

DJI Mavic Air official: 21 mins flight from folding 4K drone

DJI has taken the wraps off its latest drone, the DJI Mavic Air, slotting into the gap between the current Mavic Pro and the company’s entry-level Spark. The new drone keeps the folding design of its bigger brother, for easier portability, but picks up a more affordable price tag along with the promise of easier flight.

Slung under the front there’s a 1/2.3-inch 12-megapixel camera with an f/2.8 lens. That’s mounted on a 3-axis mechanical gimbal – indeed, DJI says that the Mavic Air is the most portable of its models to have a 3-axis system, since the Spark makes do with 2-axis – with an angular vibration range of just 0.005-degrees. Gimbal dampeners are also used, to help keep shots steadier.

On the stills side, the Mavic Air can shoot 32-megapixel Sphere panoramas. By stitching 25 images together, it can form a complete spherical image that can be viewed in the company’s DJI Goggles and elsewhere. Of course, there’s also horizontal, vertical, and 180-degree panorama support too. A new HDR system promises better balancing of bright and dim aspects of the frame.

Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Plus Review

In October last year, Cherry Mobile released its lineup of Flare S6 smartphones, and among those is the beefy Flare S6 Plus. One of the highlights of the phone is its quad camera setup. But that aside, does the Flare S6 Plus fare well in other aspects? Find out in our review. But before that, you can watch our unboxing video of it below.

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/M4ZUWnRSYEY”]

Design and Construction

At first glance, you’ll notice that the Flare S6 Plus is the premium one compared to the Flare S6 and the Flare S6 Selfie. It dons a metal unibody which makes it quite hefty but it feels solid and comfortable to hold. It’s 8.6mm thick but still feels relatively slim. It has a 5.7-inch HD IPS ‘TrueView’ display and mounted above it is a 2.5D glass.

Questyle QP2R Hands-on Review : Unboxing and Initial Impressions

Okay, to call these initial impressions from me is not really being honest. Maybe we are getting off on the wrong foot. I have had the Questyle QP2R for about a month. It is my main player. I prefer it to every other portable player that I have, a list comprising 8 other digital audio players (DAPs). Here is the list that it betters (no I don’t have any Astell & Kern or Sony gear), in order of preference:

Hive View review: Attractive design, average features

This security camera’s singular “grab-and-go” design stands out, but its feature set is too basic for serious DIYers.

Beyond its innovative design, Hive view offers solid, if basic, features best suited to smart-home and security newbies.

If U.K. smart home brand Hive hoped to immediately steal some of the shine from competitors with its new Hive View indoor camera, it has succeeded spectacularly. With is satiny finish and unique “grab and go” modular design—the creation of Swiss industrial designer Yves Béhar—this security camera impresses right out of the box.

The cubed camera unit can detach from the magnetic mount on its lightweight brushed-metal stand and operate for short duration on battery power. That gives you the option of temporarily training the View on another room, such as when you need keep tabs on your children while you attend to something upstairs. It’s a design detail that will probably have a lot of utility for a lot of folks.

9 Facts About The 2018 Yamaha Star Eluder

Ever since Yamaha took the wraps off its Transcontinental Touring line of motorcycles, the bagger fans here at MO have been chomping at the bit to throw a leg over the 2018 Yamaha Star Eluder. From the ever-popular V-Twin propulsion to the latest in motorcycle electronic technology, the Eluder appears to have just about everything a bagger should. Read on to find out why.

Virtually Identical to the Star Venture

Well, not even virtually. The Star Eluder is the Star Venture without a few key components. Front and rear are the shorter windscreen and the trunk. How could the Eluder be a bagger, otherwise? Naturally, the windshield adjustment and the rear speakers with their dual-zone audio controls were eliminated, too. Two items you might miss on the Eluder are the Sure Park assistance for moving the bike backwards (and forward!) and the heated grips (which are still available as an option).

GoPro Fusion review: The 360-degree camera you’ve been waiting for

GoPro has finally launched the Fusion action camera. Like the Hero and Session, it’s designed to be strapped to virtually any part of you of your kit – your bike, shoes, car or any number of other objects via accessory mounts. The Fusion is just as much an action camera as the others, except this one shoots in 360 degrees and adds some impressive features.

Throughout the past six to seven months we’ve spent time looking at, playing with, and – finally – testing the GoPro Fusion for ourselves. It’s GoPro’s first attempt at a full surround view camera, and it’s a great start.

Best Smart Speakers of 2018: the Pros and the Cons

At CES 2018, the usual circus of new products, experimental devices, and moonshot projects seem to have a common undertone: AI assistants. At almost every turn, you’ll find something, be it a “smart display”, a TV, a car head unit, or a door lock that integrates with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, or even Microsoft Cortana. The age of the personal AI assistants have come, and it all started with the somewhat unassuming and still really bewildering smart speakers. We take a brief look at some of the best ones in the market, and some still to come, and why, despite their appeal, they might not exactly be worth your money just yet.

What is a smart speaker?

What makes a speaker smart anyway? With the increase in number of speakers, from portable ones to the sound bars near TVs, that can accept streamed content from the Internet or your phone (thank you Google Cast!), the lines have become at bit blurry and will be even more.

Essential Phone Review: The Impossible Challenge

The first Essential Phone was a good device, and everything that the first wave of Android phone enthusiasts could have wanted. But by the time the Essential company and the PH-1 existed, the general public had moved beyond their initial any-new-Android frenzy. Now we’re in an era where the most fad-friendly phone is king, and only king for a half-cycle. Essential’s first phone release is an attempt to check all the boxes for innovation but remain bare-bones at the same time. Therein lies the Essential struggle.

Our first review of this device was cut short by what we perceived as not-quite-ready software. The software, especially the camera software, just wasn’t at a place where we’d call it complete: it was clear the phone was still a huge work in progress. Several months later, though, and with many updates under the Essential Phone’s belt, we’re ready to pass judgement.

Starmobile UP Selfie Hands-On Review : First Impressions

Before 2017 ended, Starmobile has announced their newest addition to the UP series called the UP Selfie. Here’s our hands-on and first impressions on the brand’s selfie-centric smartphone.

Starmobile has changed its course for the better in terms of design and construction compared to the UP Prime. At first glance, the device has an impression of a somewhat premium design which makes it appealing to the eyes despite the thick bezels. This can be attributed to the unibody design and dark-colored front panel which is covered with glass.

At the front, the dual 13MP front cameras, call speaker, LED notification light, and front LED flash are located. It has a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with 1280×720-pixel screen resolution. The entire front panel is mounted with a 2.5D curved glass except for the call speaker. The display is vibrant, has decent color accuracy and viewing angles.
