Range Rover Evoque Convertible Review: Droptop SUV an acquired taste

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible’s time in the autoshow spotlight may have faded to distant memory, but its oddball status remains. Even several months after they started showing up on dealer forecourts, usually sufficient time for the gloss to fade on all but the most unexpected exotica, the Evoque Convertible still turns heads. A reasonable part of that, I suspect, isn’t so much because onlookers necessarily like the design, but because seeing an SUV with the top chopped off is still strange.

I’m not a huge fan of convertibles, most of the time. For a start I’m a pale British man prone to burning in the sun; I’m also fairly self-conscious behind the wheel. Bizarrely, though, for all its ostentation the Evoque Convertible might actually be the perfect droptop for the socially awkward.

2018 Toyota Camry First Drive: Potent family sedan shrugs off SUV onslaught

Is it hard to get excited about the all-new 2018 Toyota Camry? After all, this is a car that has been at the top of the mid-size sedan heap for decades, reaping handsomely the rewards having sown so much loyalty amongst families seeking affordable and above all reliable transportation. How much better can it get, really – and how noteworthy would an improvement actually be when it’s already such a dominant force in its class?

All things being equal it might have been possible for Toyota to coast into the latest generation of its flagship model, but times have changed dramatically since the Camry first went on sale in the early 80s. Parents with budding broods are more likely to consider an all-wheel drive SUV than park a four-door commuter car in the driveway, and even those without children to haul are increasingly turning away from the traditional mid-sizer that has been the industry’s bread and butter in favor of visiting crossover country.

Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-575-33BM) Review

If you want a sub-$350 Windows laptop, you usually have to settle for a dull, low-res screen; lackluster design; and mediocre performance. For $349, Acer’s Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM defies those expectations, providing a colorful 1080p display, solid build quality and a reasonable Core i3 processor. Throw in over 8 hours of battery life, a DVD drive and just about every port you can imagine, and this 15.6-inch laptop is a real winner for consumers on a budget.

Design: Solid

Acer’s Aspire E 15 is made of sturdy black plastic with a dark gray, matte lid that has a subtle crosshatch pattern and texture, along with a deck that looks like faux brushed aluminum. The notebook seems to have solid build quality, because it didn’t creak or buckle during my use; the keyboard didn’t show any signs of flex while typing either.

Samyang AF 35mm f/2.8 FE Review

Introduction

The Samyang AF 35mm f/2.8 FE is a moderate wide-angle prime lens for full-frame and APS-C Sony mirrorless cameras. The Samyang AF 35mm f/2.8 FE is comprised of 7 elements in 6 groups including 2 aspherical glass elements and 1 high refractive lens, and employs an iris diaphragm with seven rounded aperture blades. It’s the third Samyang lens to feature auto-focusing and has a minimum focusing distance of 35cm/1.14ft and a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.12x. The Samyang AF 35mm f/2.8 FE lens retails for £279 in the UK and $399 in the US, where it’s known as the Rokinon AF 35mm f/2.8 FE.

Ease of Use

Weighing in at just 85 grams and measuring 3.3cm in length, the Samyang AF 35mm f/2.8 FE is a very small lens given that it’s designed for a 35mm full-frame system. As seen in the photos below, it’s perfectly suited to the full-frame Sony A7R II camera that we tested it with.

Asus Zen AiO Pro Z240IE Review: Style and Substance

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Asus Zen AiO Pro Z240IE

In the PC world, there sometimes seem to be only two sorts of systems: There’s the budget-friendly machine that achieves its price through cutting corners. And then there’s the maxed-out performance monster designed to impress reviewers and enthusiasts, but that’s too expensive to ever show up in the average home.

Thankfully the Asus Zen AiO Pro Z240IE ($1,799 as reviewed) lands in that rare middle ground, offering you a capable all-in-one PC that combines a 4K display, strong performance and a healthy amount of storage without pushing into crazy pricing territory. Throw in discrete graphics and features like a touch screen and USB Type-C connectivity, and you’ve got a great all-in-one for most any use.

Flash review: the Godox Ving V860 II is a great-value wireless solution

  • Godox Ving V860 ll flash – $199/£161
  • Godox Ving V860 ll flash kit with X1 transmitter – $245/£199
  • X1 transmitter – $40/£37
  • www.godox.com

I’ve been a big fan of independent flash brands since I was a teenager. Marquee brands’ hotshoe units were always disproportionately expensive, and for a young photographer on a stacking-shelves budget the appeal of cheaper and more powerful models from secondary manufacturers was obvious.

In those days of course flash unit controls were much less complicated, but working with flash was generally much harder than it is today – all we expected back then was a cable socket and a manually variable burst of illumination.

Apple Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad review

apple-keyboard-07

There’s now more magic in Apple’s Magic Keyboard — a new version of the slim, wireless accessory now includes a 10-key numeric keypad. It’s very, very similar to the current Magic Keyboard, now a couple years old, but it makes the process of typing numbers into your computer a breeze.

Previously, you’d have to find an old, wired Apple keyboard , some models of which included a number pad, or else hook up a third-party keyboard or standalone number pad, all of which could break the silvery symmetry of your carefully constructed iMac tableau.

Those loyal to the number and symbol row above the keyboard are still in luck, because that’s not going anywhere. But with the addition of a traditional keypad on the right — a popular request, according to Apple — coders, engineers and accountants (to name a few) can now input numbers with more speed and accuracy. Some creative apps, such as Pro Tools and Final Cut, also use number pad shortcuts.

2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe First Drive: The new benchmark

It’s tough to stand out on the increasingly crowded forecourt of a Mercedes-Benz dealership, but somehow the 2018 E400 Coupe manages it. Maybe it’s not the most aggressive of the German automaker’s cars, or the most powerful, or even the most expensive. Yet it’s a coupe that draws a direct line back, all the way to 1968, through a rich seam of Mercedes heritage. Go figure, then, that when the company invited me out to British Columbia to try it for myself, this grand tourer turned out to perfectly encapsulate the thoroughly modern Mercedes.

Ironically, for all Mercedes’ niche-filling and segment-crossing – there are currently 83 individual models in the automaker’s range, with five new products due in 2017 alone, along with 15 variants of existing cars – the E400 Coupe finds itself with not much in the way of direct competition. The midsize luxury coupe segment is oddly empty these days, most automakers preferring to play in either the compact or full-size segments. Mercedes could, you might worry, have phoned things in with the E400 Coupe as a result.

Oppo Sonica DAC review

Is it a DAC? Is it a streamer? Is it worth £800/$1200?

Despite its name, the Oppo Sonica DAC is much more than just a standalone digital-to-analogue converter. It’s also a high-resolution music streamer, with excellent spec support and a slick control app to boot. It even does multi-room.

There’s no denying the £800/$1200 price tag is high, though, and the Oppo Sonica DAC has its work cut out to compete against class rivals from Cambridge, Audiolab and Chord.

Features

Whether you look at the Sonica as music streamer with a DAC, or a DAC with streaming features, its credentials are impressive.

Google Fit v Apple Health – UPDATE 2017

The war between Apple and Google doesn’t stop at smartphones and wearables; the two also want to be your health guru.

Apple Health and Google Fit are both vying to be your fitness platform of choice, and with Android Wear 2.0 and streamlining updates to the Apple Watch and iOS, both are much more refined experiences.

Originally, Google Fit was a software framework allowing app developers and hardware makers to record, log and display health-related data with as little coding as possible. But it left the developer labs at the end of 2014 and is now a fully-fledged consumer-facing offering. Since then it’s grown into a proper fitness app that doesn’t just track your steps and workouts, but is at hand to help during your gym sessions.

DJI Spark Review: Great Video, But Gesture Controls Need Work

Kết quả hình ảnh cho DJI Spark

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of small drones capable of recording video, so what makes the DJI Spark so different? For one, it’s the company’s first real attempt at a mass market drone — that is, if the masses have $500 to drop on what’s essentially a toy. But unlike those cheap drones buzzing around Amazon’s pages, DJI brings a level of sophistication with gesture controls, advanced flight modes and better-than-average video. The Spark is still in rarified air, but it’s a tempting option.

Design

Behold the incredible shrinking drone. While not as small as the Hover Passport (7.2 x 5.2 x 1.3 inches),the Spark, at 7.5 inches from rotor to rotor, makes the Mavic Pro — DJI’s next-smallest drone — seem like a giant by comparison. At 0.76 pounds (with battery), the Spark is also half the weight of the Mavic. The Spark is also dwarfed by the Parrot Bebop 2 (13 x 12 x 4 inches).

6 Reasons to Buy the LG G6 (and 3 to Skip)

Surface Pro (2017) vs. Surface Laptop: What Should You Buy?

Microsoft’s Surface lineup features the company’s vision for premiere Windows 10 experiences. The Surface Laptop (starting at $999) is a standard clamshell notebook, while the Surface Pro (starting at $799) is a 2-in-1 with a detachable keyboard.

surface laptopvs surface pro lead

But these two machines do have other differences, including in battery life, included ports and even the available configurations. So which one should you get?

Design

Talk about a family resemblance. It’s not surprising that the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro look familiar, because they come from the same line of products. Both of them have slightly curved edges with the same 3:2 screen ratio. Both also use Alcantara fabric, which is soft to the touch, on their keyboards. The Laptop has it on the built-in keyboard, while the Surface Laptop’s optional-but-not-really-optional Type Cover also uses the high-end fabric.

The best VR headsets for iPhone users: Because iOS users can join the big VR party too

The great VR headset revolution is well and truly underway and just because you own an iPhone rather than an Android smartphone doesn’t mean you can’t get involved in the virtual reality action in 2017.

An Apple VR headset doesn’t exist (yet), so Google Cardboard has stolen a lot of the limelight when it comes to iPhone virtual reality. But there are a new breed of super-cheap headsets, apart from the Google Daydream View, that are iPhone compatible. They even support most handsets from the old iPhone 5s to the more recent iPhone 7.

While mobile VR headsets obviously have nothing on the likes of the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR, Cardboard-style sets have the chance to encourage large numbers of potential users to get on board with virtual reality. Apps-wise, you can access Cardboard apps, YouTube 360, Facebook’s 360 videos and more. So what better place to start than with one of these iPhone-friendly headsets?

Kowa MFT 8.5mm, 12mm & 25mm Lens Video Review

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/k-9A66m5a0M”]Picture 10 of 12[/su_youtube]

Kowa may not be a brand you know much about but if you’re a Micro Four Thirds (MFT) shooter, they could be someone you become more familiar with thanks to the three MFT lenses found in their range. These lenses are the Prominar Ultra-Wide 8.5mm f/2.8 (not a fisheye), Prominar Wide 12mm f/1.8, and Prominar 25mm f/1.8 standard lens.

David Thrope recently got hold of these 3 lenses to find out how well they perform and to see if they’re a trio of lenses all MFT fans should be investing in.

David says the 25mm lens is rather standard but both the wides are quite fast for their focal lengths and the build quality is really excellent, with David comparing them to 60’s and 70’s Nikon lenses. They’re all manual lenses and you won’t find any electronic contacts on them but focusing is smooth, silky and fairly heavily weighted, something video shooters will particularly like.

iPad Pro vs. Surface Pro (2017) : Which Is Best for You?

Microsoft and Apple each argue that its tablet with attachable keyboard is the future. But which one is right for you?

surface pro vs ipad pro

The new 10.5-inch iPad Pro surprises with the A10X chip’s sheer brawn, while the Surface Pro’s operating system, keyboard and port selection make it more of a complete PC. You might think you know which machine you want, but this face-off may change your mind.

Of course, many of you likely want to know how the larger, 12.9-inch iPad pro compares to the 12.3-inch Surface Pro. We look forward to updating this story once we test the larger iPad Pro.

Design

The latest iterations of the iPad Pro and Surface Pro don’t rock the boat when it comes to design and, as a result, don’t really wow us.

DTS:X – what is it? How can you get it?

DTS returned to cinema sound after more than two decades with DTS:X, an object-based sound technology that’s a successor to DTS HD, and a rival to Dolby Atmos.

Kết quả hình ảnh cho DTS:X

DTS:X was introduced back in January 2015, with its initial focus on home cinema use. It subsequently rolled out into cinemas. This is the opposite approach to its rival Dolby Atmos, which started life in the cinema before heading into the home.

The majority of AV manufacturers now support the format, including Anthem, Arcam, Denon, Krell, Marantz, McIntosh, Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony, Trinnov and Yamaha.

But what exactly is DTS:X? And what do you need to take advantage of it in the home? Allow us to explain…

What is DTS:X?

OPPO A57 Review

Kết quả hình ảnh cho oppo a57 black

The OPPO A57 with a 5.2-inch display, a Snapdragon chip, and 3GB of RAM is billed as a phone for ‘unstoppable selfies‘, but does it have a performance that goes beyond taking photos? Here is our full review.

First announced last November in China, the A57 was brought here in the country just this past week with much fanfare. We were able to use it as our daily driver for around a week, and have given you some of the basics in our hands-on just a few days ago.

Design and Construction

Our unit dons a black color all over, which the company has been releasing for its smartphones since the F3 Plus back in April. The front part consists of a 16-megapixel rear camera, a few sensors, a call speaker grill. a 5.2-inch display and a fingerprint scanner below that also serves as the home key.

BMW Concept 8 Series exclusive first drive: Borrowing a priceless prototype

I’ve seen countless concept or prototype cars at auto shows and press junkets over the years. Rarely does anyone ever get to drive them, because concept cars are, well, only concepts. One of kind and invariably hand-built, they’re obscenely expensive, too. Their primary purpose in life is to showcase new styling and new technology. Think of them as eye candy aimed to grab attention, from everyone and especially away from the competition.

I confess, I’ve also long harbored a deep desire to just jump in and drive off into the sunset with one of these handmade concepts. Spoiler alert: that’s almost exactly what I did.

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/WetJL39wZLc”]Picture 10 of 12[/su_youtube]

BMW’s Concept 8 Series is no exception to my felonious lusts, except that it’s exceptional in every respect when it was unveiled at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy. BMW couldn’t have picked a more prestigious and exclusive venue for the unveiling. There are only three major concours worth mentioning, with d’Eleganza sharing the spotlight with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. If you’re feeling particularly generous, the Goodwood Festival of Speed could nudge that total up to four.

Status OB-1 review

Status Audio markets itself a little like the OnePlus of the headphone world. It sells its headphones directly, avoiding the pound pile-on caused when dealers and middle-men start getting involved.

Its OB-1s are studio-style open-backed headphones that look, at a glance, like something Sennheiser might charge £150/$225 or more for.

Comfort and fit are spot-on. However, while there’s reasonable scale to the sound, it’s unfocused and lacking in dynamics. They aren’t a reason to give up using your Sennheiser Momentum 2.0s just yet.

Build

The Status OB-1s are full-size, over-ear headphones and siblings of the closed-back Status CB-1s.

While designs like these are implicitly for home use, more people may be happy wearing their look out on the street than the CB-1s because they don’t stick quite as much. They look, well, normal.

Surface Pro 2017 vs iPad Pro with iOS 11 : Productivity Showdown

The two premium tablets of the year have been revealed and all gloves are off in the fight between Microsoft’s latest Surface Pro and the new iPad Pros, especially when they get the iOS 11 update later this year. Both have pit themselves against the other and the two are neck in neck in the battle for mobile computing supremacy, as well as consumers’ wallets. Compared to mere media consumption, and usually cheaper, tablets, these two are often billed as productivity machines, your office on the go. So which of the two is really the ultimate productivity master? We take a closer look to find out

544756-microsoft-surface-pro-2017

What is productivity

“Productivity” is one of those words you throw around and people nod their heads as if knowing exactly what you mean. The thing is, productivity means different things for different people. At its simplest, productivity means being able to accomplish your task in the most efficient way possible, taking up less time, less effort, or both.

HP Notebook 15-ba009dx Review

Look, I don’t expect a ton from a notebook that’s less than $300. To make something at that price, you have to cut corners somewhere. But the $259.99 HP Notebook 15-ba009dx cuts corners nearly everywhere, from the cheap build quality to the subpar display to the battery life that’s less than half the length of its nearest competitors. Sure, its speakers sound OK, but you can get a laptop that cuts fewer corners elsewhere, and I recommend that you do.

Design

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that this cheap laptop feels really, well, cheap. It’s made of black plastic, and the ribbed lid with HP’s logo has a lot of flex when you press down. Lifting the lid reveals the 15.6-inch, 1366 x 768 display; an island-style keyboard with a number pad; and a black deck with some racing stripes. The black plastic edges around the deck are sharper than I expected, which caused me some trouble while typing (see below).

Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro Hands-on Review : First Impressions

We recently got our hands on one of Samsung’s upcoming devices for the Philippines, the Galaxy J7 Pro. It’s the cousin of the Galaxy J7 (2017) with some differences. Let’s check it out in our first impressions below.

The Galaxy J7 Pro looks just like the Galaxy J7 (2017) that was recently announced. One the front, it has a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display, along with the earpiece and 13MP camera with LED flash placed just above it.

Down below are the physical home button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and a couple of capacitive keys on its left and right side for navigation. Mounted on top of the whole thing is a scratch-resistant glass with curved edges.

Used Mercedes SL vs BMW 6 Series Convertible vs Porsche 911 Cabriolet

Fancy taking in this summer’s sunshine in something with grace, pace and space to spare? Well then, we’ve got a treat for you. Three delightful used drop-tops all from the upper end of the market, all leather-lined and dripping with kit, and all promising the perfect blend of driving excitement and comfortable cruising manners.

What’s more, depreciation means you can usually buy cars like this for a fraction of their original price. Take the BMW 6 Series Convertible, for example. This version is still on sale today, almost unchanged, as a brand new model, but with a five-year-old example like the one we’re testing here costing a fraction of that price, you’d be mad not to consider it.

The same goes for the Mercedes-Benz SL. Long has this two-seater been the drop-top of choice for celebrities the world over, and not without reason. The latest shape might be a little less elegant than those that came before, but it’s laden with equipment and has undeniable presence out on the road.

ASUS ZenFone AR Review: The Future Of Smartphones?

We review the ASUS Zenfone AR!

Despite being a relative newcomer to the Android arena compared to their competitors, Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS has managed to produce smartphones with compelling tech – they were the first to come out with a phone with 4GB of RAM when 3GB was thought of as overkill in the ZenFone 2 in 2015, as well as a relatively compact optical zoom tech in the first ZenFone Zoom. They repeated the same feat with 6GB of RAM with the ZenFone 3 Deluxe last year, and while their flagship ZenFone AR has the most ram we’ve ever seen in their product lineup at 8GB, that’s not its killer feature.
