HANDS-ON: DENON AH-MM400 HEADPHONES

Stock up on songs: Denon’s AH-MM400 will increase your musical appetite

Forget the striking wood cups, the Denon MM400’s sound is anything but wooden, with an immersive soundstage and spectacular stereo separation

A great pair of headphones are tough to take off. If the sound quality is superb and the comfort supreme, you can spend hours stole away in a musical place far away from the bustle of the world around you. If you spend $400 on a pair — the price of the Denon AH-MM400 Music Maniac over-ears we’ve been trying out — you expect them to tick all the above boxes. We set out to determine if Denon’s latest earn their keep.

Denon has gone out of its way to make the MM400’s look either classic and classy, or incredibly old-fashioned, depending on your personal taste. The ear cups are covered in hand carved American walnut, giving a classic, classy style that’s at odds with the plastic and metal that often dominates headphone design.

The Gear Fit 2 is Samsung’s best wearable yet

A more stylish design and the addition of GPS tracking make it something we can recommend.

Samsung has made plenty of wearables over the years, but few were as immediately impressive as the Gear Fit. Its curved screen and relatively slim design almost made us forget the company’s early, clunky Gear smartwatches. Now with the $179 Gear Fit 2, Samsung has refined its original design to make it a lot more useful for athletes. It has built-in GPS, a slightly larger screen and smarter activity tracking. It’s Samsung’s best fitness wearable yet, but it’s still a tough sell compared to competing devices from the likes of Fitbit.

Now trusted sources has posted new Panasonic GH5 sensor information and it looks like the upcoming model will come packed with the same 16MP resolution found in the newly announced GX85. The sensor looks like the same as the previous model and it will be made by Sony.

How to Upgrade Your Laptop’s Hard Drive to an SSD

Before You Begin: Check Upgradability

ssd upgrade laptop panel 670x381

The process of upgrading your laptop to SSD is fairly simple if you have easy access to your hard drive via a removable panel on the bottom of the laptop. If you have an Ultrabook or your laptop doesn’t have that kind of easy upgrade access (e.g., the bottom panel is sealed), it’s a whole different ballgame, and you’ll need to consult your laptop manual for instructions on getting to that drive and finding the right replacement drive. Otherwise, this tutorial will help those of you with the removable panel through preparing your laptop, cloning your system, and making the big swap.

Edifier CineSound B7 review

Unlike children in the days of old, soundbars should be heard and not seen. Although in an ideal world, where tellies could somehow stuff beefy drivers into anorexic frames, we probably wouldn’t need them at all.

Edifier is clearly in agreement because despite its CineSound B7 comprising a metre-long bar and sizable external subwoofer, its minimalist aesthetic couldn’t be any more discreet.

Build and features

It’s certainly smart enough. Traditionally clothed and no chunkier than the giant Toblerones that you pick up at the airport duty-free shop, the sleek prism-shaped bar is simply garnished with just a small Edifier logo.

At one end, a panel features four buttons for changing power, input and volume – though that’s also where the flat, dinky remote comes in.

VTech InnoTab Max Review

VTech says the InnoTab Max is recommended for 3- to 9-year-olds, but I can’t imagine a child of any age who would want it. It features a 7-inch touch screen and some decent content, including a well-locked-down web browser. But its sluggish performance will have your kids whining. The screen quality is poor, the battery life endurance short and the camera terrible. For $125, I expect a whole lot more from a tablet, no matter whom it’s for.

Design

The VTech InnoTab Max definitely looks kid-friendly, but it also looks and feels cheap. The 7-inch touch screen is surrounded by a white and blue or pink bezel. Buttons, all of which require too much pressure to activate, line three sides. A home and back button sit to the top right. Along the top edge, to the right of the swiveling 2-MP camera, are the home and volume buttons. A three-lined hamburger menu button, a question mark and a directional pad sit on the left side of the display.

2017 Yamaha SCR950 – FIRST LOOK REVIEW

Yamaha has realigned its streetbike categories and created what it calls its Sport Heritage line, consisting of the new-for-2016 XSR900, SR400, VMAX, and now this new 2017 SCR950. Take one part DT250 and the Bolt’s 942cc twin, then jam it all into a scrambler chassis, and you get this cool-looking retro-styled machine.

2017 Yamaha SCR950 on-road action

The Yamaha SCR950 can do it all, road, urban, or off highway.

The air-cooled, 60-degree twin features fuel injection and four valves per cylinder, then exhales through a 2-into-1 exhaust. Designed for low-end torque, the engine has been tuned to offer broad power whether you are cruising around town or exploring gravel roads off the beaten path. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a belt final drive.

The SCR950 isn’t just for posing, however, as Yamaha went to great lengths to ensure that it was capable of all that its scrambler image suggests. A double-cradle frame offers sporty geometry for responsive handling on road or off. A conventional 41mm fork with the stanchions protected by gaitors is used up front, while a pair of piggyback-style gas shocks are used in the rear. Brake hardware features a 298mm front wave-style disc with a twin-piston caliper, while a rear disc of the same diameter is also wave-style. Spoked aluminum rims in 19-in. front, and 17-in. rear are wrapped in chunky dual-sport style tires.

Lenovo PHAB2 Pro (Tango) first impressions and hands-on video

The first Google Tango phone for consumers has been revealed – Lenovo PHAB2 Pro – and today we’re having our first hands-on experience. This device is very similar to the other two models of the PHAB2 being revealed by Lenovo this week, both with 6.4-inch displays and relatively similar bodies – but here we’ve got 2K resolution (2560 x 1440) and an aluminum alloy around the edges and back of the phone. Then there’s the array of cameras and sensors around the back. So many sensors and cameras.

This device has three physical buttons up front – capacitive, that is, touch-sensitive, but off the screen. Then there’s a power button and a volume rocker on the right, and a microUSB port at the bottom.

The Moto Z vs. the competition: Much more than a gimmick

If you take away all its fancy toys, how well does Motorola’s new handset stand up to its rivals?

moto-z-fb2

The biggest selling point of the new Moto Z and its fancier sibling the Moto Z Force might be the trio of “Mods” that let you boost the device’s battery life, pump up the volume or even make the it into a handheld projector. But how does this new handset compare with the other big accessory-adorned handset on the market, the LG G5? And should you choose either phone over more straightforward flagships like the Galaxy S7 or iPhone 6s Plus? We’ve lined up the specs of the Moto Z against these formidable competitors to see what it brings to the table, no frills attached.

Beyerdynamic T1 Headphone Review

THE VERDICT
Beyerdynamic reboots and refines their flagship T1—and significantly improves its sound quality.

The Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation) over-the-ear headphone may look nearly identical to the original T1 that debuted in 2009, but trust me on this: The two headphones sound very different. The first thing I noticed is that the new T1 has meatier, bigger, punchier bass, and the treble is sweeter, clearer, and more refined. It’s much more than a reboot.

To discover why, I rang Beyerdynamic’s Klaus Hanselmann to get the back story. He told me the T1’s 45mm Tesla driver is much the same but now features a tiny plug that controls high-frequency resonance. The earcups sport an all-new aluminum driver housing and baffle. The acoustic damping material behind the drivers is also new. The ear pads now have memory foam, and they are covered with synthetic fibers that wick sweat away from your ears, so the T1 feels cooler in the summer.

2017 Yamaha FZ-10 – FIRST LOOK REVIEW

When Yamaha announced that it was selling an R1-based sport naked for the European market in 2016, we felt left out. Bastards! How could they do this to us, we wondered? But the reality is that in this age of global markets, there was still a good chance that U.S. buyers would get this new sportbike that uses a version of the current generation “CP4” (cross-plane four-cylinder) engine. This is not an engine repurposed from a mothballed couple-gen-old model, a la the FZ1. Well, guess what? Not only is Yamaha bringing the FZ-10 into the States as a 2017 model, but it goes on sale this month, like, as in any day now.

2017 Yamaha FZ-10 on-road action

Yamaha R1-based naked sportbike is called the FZ-10 and on its way to the U.S.

Here is what you need to know: We’ll start with the engine. Like we said above, the FZ-10’s cross-plane engine is based on the mill in the current YZF-R1/S/M. But there are some differences. Internally, engine components that in the R1 are made of high-tech titanium and magnesium are ditched in an effort to reduce costs in the FZ-10. About 40 percent of the internals have been swapped out. But they aren’t necessary in an engine that is designed to offer more low-down response, rev less, and doesn’t focus on top-end bang on a racetrack. Intake ports, valves, combustion chambers, camshafts, and a revised lower compression ratio (12.0:1) have all contributed to a broader rev-range according to the bLU cRU. Yamaha claims a peak output of 158 horsepower. Also contributing to the more street-friendly power delivery, the final drive got a two-teeth bump on the rear sprocket.

Ulefone Future vs. UMI Super in a big comparison video

Ricoh announces the HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE lens

Ricoh Imaging announces compact, lightweight and weather-resistant HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3ED PLM WR RE lens.

The new HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3ED PLM WR RE is a new telephoto zoom lens delivering enhanced AF performance and a minimum focusing distance of 0.95 metres.

When mounted to an APS-C-format digital SLR camera, the HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3ED PLM WR RE lens provides an angle-of-view coverage similar to that of an 84.5-460mm lens on a 35mm full-frame camera.

Budget-friendly HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3ED PLM WR RE zoom lens becomes official

Ricoh announces the HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE lens

This new lens features a pulse motor (PLM) and adopts a ‘rear-focus’ system – both of these changes result in faster autofocus acquisition times (8.3x at wide angle and 1.7x at telephoto), as well as quieter overall autofocus performance when compared to its predecessor. Ricoh also claims that, when the lens is mounted on the new K-70 DSLR, a new autofocus algorithm ensures greater precision and faster operation with dimly lit subjects.

Samsung Notebook 9 Spin Review

Samsung’s new Notebook 9 Spin (priced at $1,199) takes the perennially attractive, lightweight design the company’s ATV line is known for and adds a pair of 360-degree hinges. The result, when matched with an Intel Core i7 CPU, is a lean, mean productivity machine — one that can bend over backward to get the job done. However, a shallow keyboard and below-average battery life are major drawbacks on what could have been a truly excellent laptop.

Design

Welcome to the convertible party, Samsung! At first glance, the Spin looks a lot like previous notebooks in Samsung’s Ativ line. The svelte notebook’s chassis is made of familiar black aluminum, complete with a slightly raised chrome Samsung emblem and a metal-lined touchpad. However, the pair of metal 360-degree hinges reveals that the Spin can transform, similar to Lenovo’s Yoga series and Toshiba’s Radius line.

Wireless Wonders : 7 Wireless Speakers Reviewed

When you hear the term wireless speakers, chances are you think of Sonos. There’s good reason for that. Sonos staked out the wireless speaker category early on, establishing a solid product line known for reliable performance, engaging sound, and a user-friendly app that controls speakers in multiple rooms around the home. It also didn’t hurt that Sonos had the marketing budget in recent years for Super Bowl commercials—not exactly something that audio manufacturers are known for doing.

Sonos may have established a long lead in its category, but competitors have now arrived—in droves. To get a sense of what the newcomers offer and how they stack up against Sonos, we rounded up a few. Our goals: Gauge the usability of each system’s app, assess the speaker’s sound quality, and check out differentiating features, such as auto EQ and an ability to pair speaker sets for stereo playback. Along with the proprietary ecosystems (Sonos, Bluesound, etc.), we wanted to cover the open platforms, including DTS Play-Fi and Qualcomm AllPlay.

Marantz MM7055 5-Channel Power Amplifier Hands On Preview

Executive Overview

At first blush, the Marantz MM7055 may not seem like a terribly interesting product. Its $1,199 price tag doesn’t appear terribly competitive with Internet-direct products from companies like Emotiva and Outlaw. Moreover, in the age of immersive audio (i.e. Atmos, DTS-X, and Auro-3D), a 5-channel power amplifier seems just a tad quaint. On the other hand, one has to wonder just how far A/V receiver manufacturers can push the envelope. With some models boasting as many as 11 channels of amplification, in addition to the extra processing power required by these formats, it stands to reason that something has to give. Usually, that means they skimp on the power sections of the receiver’s amplifier. A separate amplifier like the MM7055 can give such receivers a healthy boost of power on the main ear level channels where it’s needed most. So what about the question of value? Keep reading to see my thoughts…

Here’s your chance to see the Blocks modular smartwatch in action

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/wmObau5UwYg”]

The Blocks smartwatch is nearly here, and the modular smartwatch has been going through some changes since we last saw it, as the company prepares for deliveries to start in the fall. Best compared to Google’s Project Ara, the Blocks smartwatch uses modules to expand its functionality, so you can tailor it to work in the way you want. Now we’ve got the chance to see a close-to-final version in action, in a specially made video showing the device.
[su_slider source=”media: 28753,28754,28755″ width=”640″ height=”460″ title=”no”][su_slider source=”media: 10751,10754,10755,10756,10757,10759,10760,10761″ height=”400″ title=”no”]HÌNH[/su_slider]

What’s new? Blocks has been hard at work getting the design of the watch, strap, and modules exactly right. It’s arguably the most important part, because wearables are useless if we don’t want to wear them. The round body is stainless steel and contains an AMOLED display, and crucially the modules have been reduced in size, which consequently should mean the strap is sensibly sized.

HEXO+ AUTONOMOUS DRONE REVIEW

A couple years ago, a totally unknown drone company took Kickstarter by storm with an innovative new auto-follow drone called the Hexo+. Unlike other drones that were available at the time, it didn’t require a controller or any piloting experience — you could just send it into the air with the tap of an app, and it would film you autonomously from the sky.

hexo plus review hexcopter

At the time of the campaign, it was one of the only drones that could pull this off. But now that the Hexo+ is finally for sale, it’s one of about a dozen different UAVs equipped with auto-follow functionality. DJI, Yuneec, and others have all added it to drones that you can also fly manually.

So now that “follow me” mode is almost a standard feature on most drones, can a one-trick pony like Hexo+ still prove its worth?

This bird doesn’t come equipped with a built-in camera, either. Hexo+ is of the “bring your own GoPro” variety, so if you don’t already have an action cam to use with it, you’ll need to dish out another $300 to $500 in order to use the drone. Technically you can fly it without a camera, but since it only does auto-follow, there wouldn’t really be any point.

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra Takes On The Top 3 Compact Sedans In America

Small cars are no longer the penalty boxes of old, especially in the compact segment where models like the all-new Hyundai Elantra combine a strong selection of luxury, safety, and infotainment features with sleek design and an affordable price tag. Comfort and class have gone way up at the entry-level, and the end result has been a dogfight between the Japanese automakers that have traditionally dominated the compact space and upstarts from Korean and Detroit that have studied their enemy well.

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra builds on the success of the previous-generation of the sedan, providing a slightly more muted take on the fashion-forward template that has guided much of Hyundai’s design development over the last few years. Inside, the car is more spacious than you might think, sneaking mid-size accommodations into a compact package whose external dimension have grown only somewhat compared to the year before.

Samsung Galaxy S8 could get 4K screen

Market analysis, wishful thinking, or both? Whichever the case, Samsung’s 2017 flagship might very well bear, not the first, a 4K screen. That is the prediction being made by some analysts like UBI Research, based on trends and current production capabilities. While Sony was really the first OEM to have a 4K smartphone with the Xperia Z5 Premium, Samsung might have a better use case for that extreme high pixel density beyond simple video or photo viewing: virtual reality.

lo-dien-galaxy-s8-1

In truth, Samsung already does have a display panel that seems poised for that role. At the Display Week conference last week, the Korean manufacturershowed off a “high resolution for VR” screen that measured 5.5 inches and had an astounding 3840×2160 resolution, a.k.a. 4K. The screen size is a bit larger than the usual Galaxy S flagship, but considering the resolution, something has to give. Of course, it is entirely possible that Samsung would be able to manufacturer a smaller panel by the time the Galaxy S8 comes around.

Altec Lansing Mini Lifejacket III review : This rugged Bluetooth speaker isn’t just water resistant, it’s fully submersible

Altec Lansing Mini LifeJacket III

I’ve been a fan of Altec Lansing most of my life, largely stemming from the sonority of the company’s 15-inch 421A speakers that were a preferred woofer and bass guitar speaker for quite a while back in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Whether that Altec Lansing company really has anything to do with today’s entity, I can’t tell you, but I do like the sound produced by its $100 Mini LifeJacket III. Rather a lot, I must say. This is a ruggedized and waterproof Bluetooth portable speaker with an IP67 rating, meaning it’s impervious to dust penetration and that no harmful amount of water will enter its enclosure when submersed in water down to one meter.

Fidelity

Nearly all the portable Bluetooth speakers I’ve tested have noticeable hot or dead spots frequency-wise. Some accentuate bass, some the mid frequencies, some lack top-end, and so on. The Mini LifeJacket III sounds relatively flat throughout most of the spectrum, with just enough extra top-end to give it some sizzle. There’s mild thump, but it’s not over-emphasized and it leans heavily toward the low mid-range. That may make the kids sad; then again, perhaps they’ll appreciate being able to understand the lyrics.

Apple’s Road to iPhone 7 Pro

Apple’s Road to iPhone 7 Pro

Rumors, leaks, and tips from unnamed sources lead the way to the next big thing from Apple: an iPhone Pro. While we have yet to see any sort of confirmation from Apple itself, the prospect of an iPhone Pro is so exciting to some, the actual much more likely release of an iPhone 7 Plus pales in comparison to the possibilities of a Pro model. We’ve been watching the throne since the iPad Pro was first revealed – it was inevitable! Now we have only to recount the steps and count on Apple to bring the heat.

What makes an Apple product Pro? Back in January of 2006, it meant that Apple was moving forward from the “PowerBook” name and was the first Apple laptop to use Intel chips instead of “PowerPC G4” technology.

PENTAX K-70 DSLR can weather the elements better than you

People today are more than ever more conscious of taking photos to capture fleeting moments into memories. Smartphones are, understandably, the immediate recourse but they aren’t necessarily the best. There will always be room for more sophisticated DSLR camera, except for one problem. Not all of them can be taken wherever you go. Ricoh’s latest PENTAX K-70, however, was designed specifically to address that problem. Combining a rugged design with features found only in high-end PENTAX models, the PENTAX K-70 was made to take photos and record videos even in conditions you yourself might not survive.

SMC Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4 Review

Pentax 50mm F1,4 On K 1 Body

Although the ubiquitous 50mm standard lens has largely given way to the kit zoom as a first purchase, it still has a very important role as a light, bright optic with a special value in low light photography. The SMC Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4 is one of the few survivors of full frame Pentax lenses from the film era. It has been reported as discontinued many times over the years, but has continued to be available. Now it has a new lease of life with the K-1 full frame body, so it will be very interesting to see if this 1991 design is up to scratch compared with the excellent new zooms now appearing.
