2014 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000 First Ride Review

When Polaris introduced the RZR XP 1000, it was obvious a four-seat version would follow. The question was would it be a year later, following the cycle that had been established by its 800cc and 900cc predecessors? But those waiting for a XP 1000 with room for four didn’t have to wait as long as they thought. Just a few months after we sampled the RZR  XP 1000, we found ourselves on the sand dunes of Glamis shredding the 2014 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000.

2014 Kawasaki Teryx First Ride Review

Kawsasaki started with the Teryx4 (T-4), which included revamping the Teryx4 with styling improvements, Fox Podium shocks and an increase in engine displacement (read more in the 2014 Teryx4 First Ride). The 2-seat Teryx was also completely overhauled with a host of improvements, including a new chassis, the same increase in displacement as the T-4, and styling changes, among many other things.

Genuine Buddy 170i Scooter Review

Oh, sure; scooters are supposed to be utilitarian, simple, cheap transportation designed to get you and your stuff across town as cheaply and quickly as possible, as easy and convenient as a TV dinner. But scooterists also want style, usually European-flavored, please. How do you get both function and design and still keep a product reliable (and affordable)? I don’t know, but if you succeed, odds are the end result will be a Taiwanese-built scooter, a scooter like the Genuine Buddy 170i I got to ride around on, thanks to the generosity of Barry Gwin at S.F. Scooter Centre.

2014 Kawasaki Z1000 ABS First Ride Review

Kawasaki is hungry for a bigger slice of the streetfighter pie with its updated-for-2014 Z1000 ABS ($11,999). By integrating the latest suspension and brake technology with its tried-and-true Inline Four architecture and wrapping it in edgy, futuristic-looking body panels, Kawasaki is convinced that it’ll steal sales from upscale Euro brands. But will the formula work? We spent a few hours behind the handlebar on the chaotic streets of Los Angeles to find out.

2014 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 First Ride Review

What is an Adventure Touring bike? Ask ten riders and you’re likely to receive ten different answers ranging from a lightweight, knobbied big-bore Single with a luggage rack to a 600-pound, multi-cylindered monster with electrically-warmed everything. Although the descriptions vary, we all know a true adventure bike when we see it, and the 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 will not be mistaken for anything but. Now the real question is where does it fall in the spectrum of adventure-ness? We found ourselves in the usually sunny coast of Southern Spain to find out.

2014 Honda Forza Scooter First Ride Review

Mid-size scooters have always had me scratching my head and wondering, “Why?” I think of scooters as convenient two-wheeled rides for quick jumps to the local market or down to the beach. They absolutely have their place in congested downtown urban environs, but why wouldn’t you go for a small and light-as-possible machine for these uses? On the flipside, if you are looking to stretch out on the open road, why not a large-displacement mount for comfort and speed? The question that persists is whether or not mid-sized scoots are a less than perfect compromise or the best of both worlds. I couldn’t make up my mind. When Honda offered up a 2014 Honda Forza Scooter for a few weeks of testing, I decided to grab the key and find out what this medium displacement thing was all about.

2014 Polaris Sportsman 570 First Ride Review

Keeping the off-road fire burning is something Polarishas accomplished in big fashion the past couple of years. The development of many diverse, user specific products keeps the Minnesota based company alive and in the industry eye. For 2014, Polaris announced the Sportsman line would receive some mid-bore love in the shape of a brand new Sportsman 570. In order to see this new machine for ourselves we visited with Polaris in the small Pennsylvanian town of Patton, to enjoy a day of riding on the Rock Run Recreational facility and spend some time getting to know the new Sportsman.

2014 MV Agusta Brutale Dragster First Ride Review

For some motorcyclists, the expression of MV Agusta’s Brutale naked bike isn’t quite tough enough. It’s those riders the Italian brand wants to capture with its more threatening-looking 800 Dragster ($14,798). Powered by the same wicked 798cc Triple that propels the F3 800 sportbike, the Dragster is MV’s new vision of hardcore streetfighter.

MV isn’t afraid to admit that it’s capitalizing on the millions of R&D dollars spent on the shared F3/Brutale three-cylinder platform by recycling the powertrain and chassis. What’s new, however, is the Dragster’s erotic profile that almost makes the standard Brutale look dated (it’s only a year old).

2014 Ducati Monster 1200S First Ride Review

In 2013 Ducati redesigned the Hypermotard and inserted the Testastretta 11 engine inside its trellis frame, much to the dismay of some Hyper purists. This left only the everyman’s Ducati, the Monster, with an air-cooled Twin, but it was obvious to anyone paying attention to the development of recent offerings from the Italian marque that would soon change. And it has with the introduction of the 2014 Ducati Monster 1200 and 1200S. Grumblings from some Monsteristi mirrored the Hyperisti a year earlier. No need to fret Monster fans, change is a good thing.

Moon Neo 230HAD review

It’s been a long time since we’ve reviewed a Moon product – more than six years, in fact – but we’re always excited to see something new from a company with such great hi-fi credentials.

This little unit is a something rather different than we’re used to from Moon and Simaudio. It’s the company’s first DAC aimed squarely at a desktop audience, featuring a headphone output and a much more desk-friendly size, measuring even narrower than the Naim DAC-V1.

As part of the company’s Neo range, it’s also cheaper than a lot of Moon products we’ve seen. While some of its components can reach executive car prices, the 230HAD comes in at £1,150/$1,725.

Bragi Dash review: The smartest earbuds on the planet

Since I started at Engadget, it’s been my life’s mission (possible exaggeration) to reduce the number of gadgets I carry when I run. At one point, getting ready for a workout was something of a memory test. Where’s my heart-rate strap? Did I charge my MP3 player overnight? Where’s the foot-pod thingy? Are my headphones where I usually leave them? What about the GPS dongle and my running watch? You get the picture.

Abarth 595C Review : Fashionable and fast convertible city car

The Abarth 595C is a small the convertible version of the Abarth hatchback with its closest rivals being the Mini Convertible, theCitroen DS3 Cabriolet and the Mazda MX-5. The Abarth 595C is the smallest car that can be considered a true sports roadster.

The Abarth is effectively a Fiat 500C with added spice and gets the same rollback fabric roof, but combined with a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 135hp — 30hp more than in the most powerful 500C.

YU YUTOPIA Review

YU Televentures last month launched its first premium flagship smartphone the YU YUTOPIA at an event in New Delhi. Priced at Rs. 24,999, the phone is direct competition to OnePlus 2 with even better specifications on paper and seems very promising as well. But is it really worth? We find out in our detailed review.

Build and Design

Starting with the design of YUTOPIA, it follows similar design language as the other YU smartphones excluding their first launch – the YU YUREKA. The metal unibody YUTOPIA feels extremely solid and premium in hands. Unfortunately it only comes in a single grey colour.

Xiaomi Mi Band Pulse review

If you’re interested in a tracker like the Mi Band Pulse, chances are that you don’t need out of context heart rate data on a daily basis. Still, it looks like Xiaomi is phasing out its original Mi Band so this will be one of the most affordable trackers you can find throughout 2016. If you take a punt, just bear in mind that it will no doubt overstate your steps. In almost all cases, a Misfit device will be a better bet for a first time tracker but Xiaomi has at least proved how cheap this kind of wearable can be done.

2014 Thunderbird Commander & LT First Ride Review

The road ahead rises sharply from the desert floor, the ribbon of asphalt snaking up the boulder-strewn mountainside. Despite the incline, the 1700cc Parallel Twin of the 2014 Triumph Thunderbird LT propels our group of riders effortlessly up the grade, its generous powerband keeping shifts to a minimum. Even when we’re lazy and let the engine drop down in the range, the forgiving Twin has no problem picking back up from low rpm without stuttering. As Montezuma Valley Road winds its way out of Borrego Springs, the Thunderbird LT flows up the mountain, the low, forward placement of its side-by-side cylinders and scooped-out seat keeps the motorcycle’s center of gravity low and makes transitions fluid and easy. This allows our seasoned group of motojournalists to maintain a spirited pace up the mountain as we eagerly seek the next opportunity to put the LT on the edge of its whitewalls.

2014 Ducati Multistrada S Pikes Peak Review

Adventure bikes are traditionally stunted, aggressive looking half-breeds, designed to be good at nothing but survive everywhere. Ducati took a shotgun to that rulebook in 2010 and built the Multistrada, a bike aimed at the man who wants to ride tarmac fast in a comfortable upright position.

What came was a gorgeous, fast, capable street bike. Since then niggles have been worked on, Pikes Peak races have been won and now, sat before us is the prettiest of the machines to grace the adventure bike class, the Multistrada S Pikes Peak.

2014 Harley-Davidson Low Rider First Ride Review

Aww, 1977. A time when Jimmy Carter was president, John Travolta made bell-bottom polyester slacks all-the-rage thanks to the movie Saturday Night Fever, and twas the year dear Elvis left the proverbial building.

It was also the year Harley-Davidsonlaunched what it calls “a ride-it-hard, put-it-away dirty” cruiser called the Low Rider. First powered by a Shovelhead, the popular custom-inspired motorcycle saw its share of changes over the years, from drag bars to buckhorns, raised white-lettered tires on mag wheels to the vaunted FXR chassis.

2014 Honda CTX1300 First Ride Review

Honda targets a different kind of touring motorcyclist with its uniquely styled, V-Four-powered CTX1300 (starting at $15,999). Part cruiser, part touring bike, the CTX appeals to riders seeking an authentic riding experience, with elevated levels of comfort and technology, compared to what other brands offer.

The CTX sports a unique form—one that won’t be recognizable by most. But it’s that way by design, and despite being listed as a touring bike on American Honda’s website, ‘New-Age Cruiser’ might be a more fitting term considering who Big Red is going after. And with a stretched wheelbase, wide and sweptback handlebar, along with a super low seat height—it plays the part well.

DreamScreen brings DIY backlighting to any TV

For a bunch of years now, Philips has made some of its TVs with a feature called Ambilight. This feature used colored LEDs on the back of the TV to backlight the wall or surface behind the TV to match the image seen on the screen. That means if your screen was green, the wall behind the TV glowed green as well.

No surprise: Saygus V2 delayed but still coming Q1

Saygus, the makers of the almost wonderful smartphone in 2009 that never came to be, is close to once again being the center of ridicule. That Iis, if it can’t avoid yet another delivery fail. The Saygus V2, pronounced as “V-squared”, announced early last year won’t be making it early this year. Or at least not next month. The company announced over at Twitter that it’s still on the road for a first quarter launch, though the reasons it gave might not spark that much confidence in the new schedule.

Windows Continuum for phones adds mid-range Snapdragon 617

One of the biggest things that Microsoft has been singing about in Windows 10is the universal app platform, a utopia where apps written for one device factor will also be usable on others, give or take a few tweaks. Part of that promise is realized in Continuum for Phones, which saw the light of day in the high-endLumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Now, however, Microsoft is lowering the requirements for Continuum for Phones just a wee bit, embracing mid-range devices running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617.

Living Concept: How Lexus made the astonishing LC 500

Making a concept car is easy. Taking that concept and coaxing a production car out of it – something people can walk into a showroom and drive away, something you can offer a warranty on – is far, far harder, as Lexus discovered when it decided to move the LF-LC from car show stands to dealership forecourts.

It’s been four years since we first saw the LF-LC. Four years since Lexus’ Calty Design Research center in California demonstrated that the company was capable of penning more than just sedate sedans.

iOS 9.2.1 update arrives with security and bug fixes

Apple has released iOS 9.2.1 for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, and with it comes a roster of bug fixes, some improvements, and a fix for the MDM server problem. Those with one of the aforementioned Apple devices can head into Settings and grab the update, but don’t expect anything substantial…those big changes will be coming with iOS 9.3.

The total update is a little under 38MB, and it features some security improvements and bug fixes. Apple points toward a fix for the problem “that could prevent the completion of app installation when using the MDM server” as chief among the tweaks. That was the extent of the specific update details, though.
