Asus ZenFone Zoom Review: Optical Zoom Impresses

Smartphone cameras have replaced dedicated cameras for everyday photo snapping because they’re thinner and always with you, but one of the features that remains out of reach for most smartphone cameras is the power to zoom. I’m talking about real optical zoom, not some half-assed digital enhancement that leaves your long-distance pics looking like a horrible pixelated mess. The $399 Asus ZenFone Zoom includes one of the thinnest 3x optical zooms ever, along with a bevy of manual controls to help you get better-looking pics. And although subpar battery life and a gunked-up version of Android prevent this phone from being a top pick, the ZenFone Zoom is a solid choice for highly mobile shutterbugs.

Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum Review — Keys to Success

The trouble with gaming keyboards is that they use some of the highest-quality parts in the business, but cram them into a product that would look absurd in anything but a teenager’s gaming nook. The Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum ($160), on the other hand, is an aesthetically pleasing RGB mechanical keyboard that feels great whether you’re fragging foes in Counter-Strike or typing the Great American Novel. Although the keys aren’t the best mechanical offerings on the market, the Orion Spectrum is an attractive, versatile peripheral with a fantastic interface and sensible extra features.

Polar A360 review : Polar’s first heart rate monitoring tracker is not up to scratch

The Polar A360 could have been a brilliant addition to the current glut of activity trackers, but it’s let down by some pretty major issues. The heart rate data accuracy issues along with the omission of distance tracking stand out as the biggest flaws. It’s a shame really, because Polar has the basis of a good device here and is far more appealing than the Loop or Loop 2. If you’ve got the money to spend and you’re a fan of Polar, the M400 feels like a better all-round option. You still get the activity tracking along with GPS and while you don’t get a built-in heart rate monitor, it has a lot more going for it if you’re willing to spend a little extra.

Origin Eon 17 SLX Review

Origin PC has never been afraid to give gamers what they want. If that means cramming a ridiculous number of high-end components into a custom-painted chassis, so be it. But the company has outdone itself with the Eon17-SLX (reviewed at $3,382; starting at $2,082). Origin PC packed an Intel Core i7 Skylake processor and an Nvidia desktop chip into a redesigned frame with a pretty Nvidia G-Sync display, epic audio and a blazing-fast solid-state drive. And when the time comes, the laptop is ready, willing and able to run virtual reality.

The Eon17-SLX is heavy and doesn’t last long between charges, but Origin PC has put enough awesomeness into this laptop to overcome any shortcomings.

Victory Cross Roads Classic First Ride Review

Styles are cyclical, and a few years back, baggers became the rage. These vaunted, versatile machines are just at home cruising around town in their duties as a daily rider as they are packing down like a mule and riding cross country to Sturgis. Thanks to their requisite saddlebags and relaxed ergos, a bagger is capable of being loaded up for the long haul or can be hopped up for raising hell at the local Friday night drags.

Honda Gold Wing F6B First Ride Review

Of the manufacturers actively promoting the next generation of motorcyclists, Honda has been at the forefront recently. The first indicators were its jump into the entry-level sportbike niche with the release of its CBR250R. Suddenly Kawasaki’s best-selling little Ninja had a worthy opponent. Honda continued this trend with the introduction of its affordable, rider-friendly 500-series of motorcycles this year along with the release of its versatile NC700X before that.

IDC: iPad Pro overtakes rivals, detachable tablets on the rise

Naysayers and doubter, take note. Despite the rather mixed reviews and reception, Apple’s biggest tablet yet actually ended up as the Q4 2015’s top selling tablet. And as much as Microsoft may want to deny it and even ridicule it, Apple’s iPad Pro managed to outrank Microsoft’s Surface tablets, once considered to be the top of the class. That said, the worldwide tablet market is still on a decline, but salvation might come from the new breed of detachables that are taking the market by storm.

Google rolls out February security update for Nexus devices

Still holding on to its promise, Google has released updates for its most recent Nexus devices that carry within it the latest security patches for Android. Although no high profile security exploit has been reported for the past month, Google isn’t letting its guard down. Factory images are already available on the Nexus developer web page and OTA links will soon follow. Users, on the other hand, are expected to wait for the update to land on their devices. Unless, of course, they intend to start fresh and flash the factory image themselves.

2016 Volkswagen Golf R Review

Volkswagen doesn’t have a lot of friends right now out there in auto-land – the foot-in-mouth associated with the TDI diesel scandal has had far-reaching implications in terms of public trust in the brand – but those that continue to stick up for VW during this dim period do so because of cars like the 2016 Volkswagen Golf R.

This hot hatch’s spec sheet reads like a wish list pried from the imagination of every teenager who’s ever lain awake at night building and re-building the ultimate version of the ten year-old Golf parked in their parents’ driveway.

Samsung Galaxy S7 release date, price, specs, features to boost software stronghold

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge models suggest that the company will stick with model sizes that developers need not change for. After years of changing the innards and outsides of the Samsung Galaxy hero smartphone lineup, Samsung appears to have stuck with what works – and, in the process, they’re about to create an environment that’s strong enough for developers to invest time and effort into the platform. As it is with Apple’s iPhones and their rarely-changing display densities, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will follow the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Plus’ leads.

iPad Air 3 case hints at 4 speakers, flash, smart connector

Given the attention that Samsung is getting over the Galaxy S7, which we expect to be unveiled at the manufacturer’s February 21 Unpacked event, there is naturally a counter flow of talk surrounding Apple’s own expected March devices. While the iPhone 5se and its 4-inch body has more or less been leaked to death, the iPad Air 3 remains a curious case. Now leaked photos of an alleged case for the 9.7-inch tablet has just made it even more curious, hinting at a possible Smart Connector for the device.

Ducati Hypermotard First Ride Review

Ducati’s Hypermotard is the Italian brand’s poster child for bad behavior, socially unacceptable antics and plain ol’ hooliganism. When it was introduced six years ago, it captured the spazstic attention of those that are drawn to wheelies, tire smoke and cutting skids, but it really wasn’t a motorcycle that most wanted to live with every day. Its flighty front-end, intense ergonomics and limited fuel range made for a ride that was, well, hyper. For 2013, Ducati has given the Hypermotard a dose of Ritalin to make daily life with the most ADHD motorcycle in the line-up a little more appealing to the masses. But did they prescribe the correct dosage?

Brammo Empulse R Motorcycle Review

Electric motorcycles have shown lots of promise, but lacked the real-world performance craved by gearhead enthusiasts. It only takes a few seconds aboard the Brammo Empulse R to realize this latest EV mount is a different beast – making significant strides toward parity with the internal combustion standard.

At last a 2013 production model, the Empulse has been a long time coming. First revealed in July 2010, it snared headlines with its claims of 100 mph top speed and 100 mile range. Brammo has since retooled the production Empulse with components developed by its TTXGP title-winning race program. A more potent liquid-cooled motor is mated to Brammo’s latest proprietary lithium-ion batteries, which store 9 kWh power. The Empulse also features a novel (for an EV ride) six-speed transmission. The result is road-worthy performance that obliterates Brammo’s previous offerings.

Ducati 1199 Panigale R First Ride Review

Ducati pushed the envelope with its 1199 Panigale establishing a new standard of what we expect from a twin-cylinder sportbike. Although it impressed in some areas, the Ducati didn’t elicit the final result many had hoped. This year it gets a shot at redemption with this new R-spec Superbike ($29,995).

The new Panigale R is based off the S model we rode during the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale First Ride. It features a variety of hardware and software updates outlined in the 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R First Look. This narrative focuses on the riding impression from the freshly paved 20-turn Circuit of the America’s Formula One course in Austin, Texas.

Lenovo Ideacentre Y900 Gaming Desktop Review

The Lenovo Ideacentre Y900 proves that “entry level” doesn’t have to mean “cheap.” An ideal choice for first-time PC gamers, the Y900 ($899 starting; $1,599 as reviewed) packs the power necessary to play the latest games, all within a sleek design that’s easy to upgrade with new parts over time. BenQ XR3501 Curved Gaming Monitor Review

Aimed at hard-core gamers, and especially racing fans, BenQ’s $999 XR3501 curved gaming monitor offers a massive, 35-inch, 2560 x 1080 display for getting lost in the action. The monitor’s high refresh rate of 144Hz makes your games look as smooth as they can be, while the device’s picture-in-picture functionality is ideal for streaming, pulling up game tips or (gasp) getting some work done. The XR3501’s immersive curvature makes it ideal for racing and flight nuts, though the monitor’s somewhat lackluster color and lack of G-Sync support mean that checking out the competition first is worth your while.
