Programs and applications often require other files to be present on your computer, but sometimes this isn’t the case. DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library and these files are used by many programs including games.

MSVCR100.DLL is a Microsoft Visual C++ file and is required by applications which were made with Visual C++. However, while downloading this file and copying it to the Windows\System folder should fix the error for most people, it might need to be copied to the game or program’s folder, so you’ll need to know which application threw up the error.

Apple and US government in a showdown over iMessages

Over the summer, the US Department of Justice obtained a court order to forceApple to turn over text messages between subjects in an ongoing investigation made using iPhone and the iMessage system. The court order for the text messages was part of an investigation into suspects allegedly involved in drug and gun related crimes.

When Apple was presented with the court order, the company refused to comply on the grounds that the iMessage system was encrypted and it was unable to hand over the text messages. Law enforcement agencies have warned in the past that issues such as this were going to happen as Apple and Google embraced tougher encryption to protect privacy.

LG Nexus 5 (2015) photos leak showing rear fingerprint scanner

The next Nexus smartphone has been leaked again with some new images hitting the web showing the device from a couple different angles. One of the images shows the device’s backside and it looks exactly like the image thatleaked back in August showing a circular fingerprint scanner on the back. The new leaked image also shows a slightly raised camera lens and dual LED flash.

The LG Nexus 5 (2015) is expected to sell for less than $400. The second image you see here is another shot that was leaked showing the smartphone from the side. This view shows the two buttons on the side, presumably for screen lock/power and volume controls. We also get a better look at just how raised that camera lens is.

Android Marshmallow disables floating windows by default

Ever since Facebook introduced the Chat Heads user interface, there has been a noticeable rise of apps that show what is best called “floating windows” on top of other apps. This is especially true on Android, which has a more lax system in what developers can and cannot do. These floating windows range from browsers that load pages in the background, to buttons that popup to call your attention, to lyrics that display your currently playing song. It seems that Google has taken notice of this trend and has decided to tighten the leash before it gets out of hand.

OPPO R7 Lite is an unexpected and ambiguous surprise

OPPO unveiled the R7 and its larger R7 Plus sibling last May and only recentlyannounced the availability of the R7 Plus in international markets. Given how big a splash it has been making with its R7 line, it’s somewhat surprising that it suddenly went silent on an R7 Lite. But perhaps the reason for that is that the R7 Lite is a rather confusing variant when compared to the main R7. It’s still the same size with lower specs but strangely a more recent Android 5.1 running on top.

Opera Mini on Android updated with data saving modes

The Opera Mini browser for Android has just been updated with refined versions of its data saving modes. Previously, the browser was known for giving users the option of reducing bandwidth and speeding up load times, in turn compressing websites and their layouts, but this was either an “on” or “off” setting, with nothing in between. There are now “Extreme” and “High” settings, which reduce data by 90% and 30-40%, respectively.

2016 Lexus RX first drive – Best-seller goes bold

There’s no arguing with quite how important the RX is to Lexus. The company credits it with kickstarting the “midsize luxury crossover segment” – that’s fancy SUV to you and I – back in 1998, and since then over 1.2m have been sold. You could forgive Lexus for playing it safe, then, when it comes to refreshing the best-selling model in its line-up.

That could mean toning down the controversial L-Finesse design language, perhaps, which has proved divisive on the IS and NX. Some new wheels, a couple of fresh paint colors, and maybe a diluted version of the company snout would all have been the easier approach.

Samsung’s new 12 Gigabit LPDDR4 paves the way for 6 GB RAM on smartphones

Samsung has been steadily improving its semiconductor products, from processors to NAND storage, and now to volatile memory, to help offset its disappointing smartphone sales. While the numbers and names might be a bit confusing thanks to how they’re marketed, this 12 Gigabit, not Gigabyte, LPDDR4 RAM is still a notable achievement. By squeezing in more memory in a single chip made with the same 20 nm process, Samsung is practically paving the way for smartphones and tablets to soon have as much as 6 GB of RAM inside.
