With the debut of the Pixel Slate, Google kicked off a tablet war against its heated rival, Apple. Starting at $599, the new 12.3-inch detachable has a premium aluminum design and comes with the latest Intel processors.

As a tablet that turns into a laptop when connected to a keyboard accessory, the Pixel Slate is a direct competitor to the iPad Pro.

2020 Lincoln Aviator makes sleek luxe SUV a plug-in hybrid

The midsize luxury SUV segment just got an impressive new competitor, with the 2020 Lincoln Aviator promising Navigator-style road presence with Continental luxury. Unveiled at the LA Auto Show 2018, the all-new SUV packs a number of firsts for the automaker, including a fresh hybrid drivetrain and smartphone integration.

As we’ve seen already on the Navigator, Lincoln’s grille looks particularly good when it’s big and bold. For LA, the car is outfitted in iridescent Flight Blue, with a contrasting high-gloss black grille, and chrome accents. The windshield in particular is unusual, with a wraparound design.

AUTEL EVO review: An excellent drone to cut your teeth on

If you’re on the hunt for your first proper drone, you just cannot go wrong with the AUTEL EVO

AUTEL EVO review

I am not going to lie here, I have been wanting to review a proper drone for years and now the time has come. This AUTEL EVO review was made possible by Wellbots and AUTEL Robotics so a big shout out to both of them for hooking this up. Before we move any further it’s important to note that this is my first drone experience. As such, I will be doing this AUTEL EVO review from the perspective a beginner drone pilot. Before flying the AUTEL EVO the only drone flying I’d done was one of those toy microdrones in my living room. I wouldn’t say that qualifies as a proper drone so this review was rather exciting for me.

2020 Porsche 911 official: More power, new style, and cleaner cabin

A new Porsche 911 is a big deal, and so the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S and 4S are making a splash at the LA Auto Show 2018 this week. The eighth generation of the iconic sports car, the new 911 gets refreshed styling, a whole new interior, and more power, though purists will be pleased to hear that some of the mainstays have stayed the same.

Outside, the new Porsche 911 gets wider and more purposeful. Bigger wheel housings fit around 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels. The front is now 1.77-inches wider, while the back has increased to the same 72.91-inches of the old Carrera 4 and GTS versions.

Review: Color night vision with the SiOnyx Aurora

As someone who frequently photographs the night sky and nocturnal landscapes, I was intrigued by the recently announced SiOnyx Aurora IR Night Vision Camera. The Aurora is a compact camera designed to shoot stills and video in color under low light conditions, in addition to providing night vision capability.

The camera is marketed for outdoor enthusiasts (e.g., boaters, fishermen, hunters, hikers) who need to see in the dark and might want to capture their nocturnal activities. At a retail price of $799 it’s more than an impulse buy, but it promises some impressive capabilities. Being an aurora photographer, I was interested in its performance capturing the Northern Lights so I took the Aurora to Yellowknife, Canada.

2019 Mazda3 hatchback and sedan raise style and tech stakes

The new 2019 Mazda3 is here, and Mazda’s curvaceous compact car now promises more upscale design, refined driving, and comfort inside. Revealed this week at the LA Auto Show 2018, the new Mazda3 may not come in an EV or hybrid form, but the automaker insists that its new Skyactiv-X engine technology will have far better implications for transportation.

It’s an important car for Mazda. Since its debut in 2003, over six million Mazda3 have been sold worldwide, in fact. Reflecting that, this new version is the first in the automaker’s line-up to adopt the new interpretation of Mazda’s Kodo design language, itself part of a push to take the range more upmarket.

vivo Y95 Unboxing, Quick Review: A Snapdragon-Powered V11i?

We check out vivo’s latest budget mid-range offering!

While vivo’s Y-series of devices is supposed to be the company’s budget line, they’ve steadily begun to adopt many of the same design cues of the more expensive V-series of phones, making them a more palatable choice for people looking for a beautiful phone that won’t break the bank.

Today’s unboxing subject, the Y95, is the prettiest phone to come out of that budget lineup. With a gorgeous rear and relatively low price, the Y95 is a great alternative if you don’t have the cash for the V11i.

Google Pixel Slate Review: Less than the sum of its parts

If the Pixelbook demonstrated Google could make a compelling laptop, the Google Pixel Slate is its attempt to do the same for tablets. Like the latest iPad Pro, it’s a confident claim that what was once considered a pared-back, mobile OS can now wear Big Boy Pants and be everything you need to do “real work” on the go. In the process, though, Google finds itself bumping up against some of the same challenges that Apple did with its tablet, and the Pixel Slate doesn’t always have the best answers either.

The 2020 Genesis G90 is finally memorable

Genesis has revealed the 2020 Genesis G90, the refreshed and redesigned luxury sedan that sits as the flagship of the South Korean automaker’s range. Promising crisper styling that’s more memorable and distinctive, the new 2020 G90 paves the way for Genesis’ big push into SUVs, with three planned by 2021.

Most noticeable, of course, is the G90’s new grille. Dubbed the Crest Grille, it plunges deep into the front bumper, and is now flanked by Genesis’ Quad Lamps headlight design. They feature reflecting diamond detailing and wrap around the front edges of the car.

2019 Triumph Street Twin / Street Scrambler Review – First Ride

Say hello to the Twins

The main difference between the 2016 Street Twin and 2017 Street Scrambler, and the new 2019 versions of each, is that my Aerostich Roadcrafter suit is much snugger when riding the new ones. On the first day we rode the new bikes from Cascais, Portugal, down the road to Lisbon in the rain. Semi-lost and wandering along, I was all set to conclude I couldn’t tell much difference between new and old. On Day Two, the rain had stopped, the roads were drying, and our Official Triumph Guide became a Brit called Nick Plumb, former Paris-Dakar regular.

Izotope Spire review

The pro-quality recording studio that fits in your microwave (but please don’t)

You’re a genius, aren’t you? Course you are. If only you had some way of getting down your brilliant, multi-layered ideas in hi-fi quality before you forget them. If only you had a miniature mobile studio, complete with built-in condenser mic, one-button recording and instant overdubbing. You’d be all out of excuses, wouldn’t you?

There are already plenty of pocket audio interfaces and apps for multitracking on the move, but the Izotope Spire has a drawer full of secret weapons: that ‘studio-grade’ microphone, a clever ‘soundcheck’ function for setting input levels, the ability to record with or without a phone/tablet, and two separate mic/instrument inputs.

Honor 8X vs Huawei Y9 2019 Mid-Range Comparo: In-Depth

Which is the right big-screened phone for you?

We knew it was bound to happen, but it’s still pretty surreal to see: Huawei is competing with itself in the lower mid-range segment of the market. Confused? Don’t be: the company’s sub-brand Honor has a pretty great offering in the Php 12,990 price point that Huawei has put a direct competitor to.

We’re talking about the Honor 8X and the Huawei Y9 2019. Both are priced at Php 12,999 and have near-identical internals which makes it hard to choose between the two.

Sony PlayStation Classic review

One tiny console, 20 games – and a few glaring holes

It might have wisely beaten Nintendo to the CD-ROM era of gaming, but with the PlayStation Classic, it’s Sony that is riding Ninty’s coattails this time around.

The PlayStation Classic clearly follows in the footsteps of Nintendo’s Classic Mini NES and SNES consoles, recreating the original PlayStation console in a bite-sized new version stocked with built-in classics from the era. Final Fantasy VIIMetal Gear SolidTekken 3? All present and accounted for.

BT Complete Wi-Fi Review

Can BT’s new mesh system eradicate dead spots?

What is BT Complete Wi-Fi?

The BT Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh system proved to be a big success. Generally fast and well priced, it made for a decent upgrade for those with an existing router they didn’t want to replace. With the BT Complete Wi-Fi, BT is offering a neater solution: a new router for the base connection, and discs that you spread around your home to improve the signal.

2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible revealed: 207mph droptop luxury

Bentley’s sumptuous Continental GT was always going to spawn a droptop version, but the Continental GT Convertible still wows all the same. Revealed in advance of the LA Auto Show 2018 this week, the new open-top grand tourer bares the Continental GT’s class-leading cabin to the elements, courtesy of a special Z-fold fabric roof.

Indeed, the roof may be the Continental GT Convertible’s crowning glory. While it may not be folding metal it still promises to be ridiculously quiet: indeed, Bentley claims that, hood up, it’s actually quieter inside than the old Continental GT Coupe was.

My favorite phone of 2018

This year I reviewed a lot of phones and test-drove more than I reviewed. Some phones, like the phone I’m about to write about, I got the opportunity to use at a time that was well after the usual reasonable window of opportunity for reviewing a smartphone. I got the LG V35 ThinQ at a time at which the LG V40 ThinQ was about to be released and the LG G7 ThinQ was already on the market. So why, you might think to yourself, why on earth would I pick the LG V35, of all phones, as my favorite smartphone of the year?

2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak Biturbo v Volkswagen Amarok TDI 580 Ultimate Comparison

High-spec dual-cab utes hold sway in the pick-up market, and high-performance engines are the new battleground

Powertrains and passion

Dual-cab pick-ups (or ‘utes’) are often the largest-selling variants in any company’s one-tonne commercial vehicle range. Their popularity with private buyers rests with the 4×4 models’ go-anywhere ability. Around the same size as a medium or large SUV, the dual-cab 4×4 is more capable in the rough stuff than the soft-roaders.

Cashed-up private buyers often want more from dual-cabs, and performance frequently tops the list of those wants.

Roccat Vulcan 120 Aimo review: Cherry-style RGB switches done right

The start of a new trend, it seems.

Cherry’s RGB switch design has felt like a compromise from the start. In order to keep the cross-shaped “stem” that Cherry switches are known for, the RGB LED had to be displaced towards the top of each key. Then the light was refracted through a transparent plastic chassis, as if to make up for the unbalanced look.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite vs OPPO K1: Fight For the Best 1000-Yuan Model Title

It’s been thought Xiaomi is offering the most cost-effecting smartphones. Of course, this company has been making a name with this strategy in mind. But other brands understood this quickly and began following it as well. OPPO is one of them. One of the world’s most popular smartphone brands, recently, has launched the OPPO K1, which is a thousand-yuan phone with a screen fingerprint recognition. As you know, this feature is available mainly in flagship models. As for Xiaomi, only two of its handsets support it – the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition and the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro.

Cat B35 review

At first glance, this chunky feature phone appears to be way out of its depth among the many rugged smartphones we have been testing recently, but the Cat B35 is smarter than it looks.

Like the rebooted Nokia 8110 banana phone, it runs KaiOS, which makes it able to offer simplified versions of apps like Google Maps and YouTube. So although there’s no touchscreen, you can still surf the web over 4G using the button keypad or indeed, talk to Google Assistant.

2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Breaks Through With 39 MPG, 219 Horsepower

When you run through the specs of the redesigned 2019 Toyota RAV4, it’s clear the new model represents a legitimate upgrade over the outgoing one. Power numbers are up, fuel economy is significantly improved, and there’s plenty to like about the styling, too.

Yet the RAV4 Hybrid showed even more marked improvements than its gas-powered sibling. For starters, this model jumped 7 mpg in both highway and city driving. Meanwhile, the hybrid also gained more power for 2019.
