The 2020 Lincoln Aviator pulls out the stops to sweep up in midsize SUVs

Big, glitzy, and unapologetically brash, the 2020 Lincoln Aviator is the latest example of the automaker’s singularly lavish vision of “American luxury.” Smaller sibling to the Navigator, though hardly less imposing, the new midsize SUV also debuts Lincoln’s new hybrid drivetrain.

The standard 2020 Aviator will come with a regular 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Lincoln says it expects that to be good for 400 horsepower and a matching amount of torque, routed through a 10-speed SelectShift automatic.

Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN | C Review

A new lens from Sigma in their Contemporary range, billed as having optical quality “approaching that of the Art lenses”, for MFT and Sony E APS-C format mirrorless cameras. Reviewed here using the Sony A5100 24mp mirrorless body, giving a “35mm format equivalent” field of view of an 84mm lens. This is very close to the classic 85mm f/1.4, so it will be very interesting to see how it performs.

5 things the iPad Pro should steal from the Pixel Slate (and 3 things it shouldn’t)

The iPad Pro is better but that doesn’t mean it can’t pick up a few pointers.

The iPad Pro’s closest competitor has arrived. Google’s Pixel Slate is a 12.3-inch Chrome OS-based tablet with slim bezels, no home button, USB-C support, lots of magnets, and a $200 companion keyboard. Sound familiar? But for all of their similarities, the Pixel Slate and iPad Pro are quite different—and not just because Google positions its logo to be right-side-up when docked in a keyboard.

Forget hamsters, the 2020 Kia Soul EV is charming by itself

Kia doesn’t need hamsters any more: the 2020 Soul and Soul EV are compelling enough on their own merits. With the furry sidekicks out of the way, the third-generation Soul hatchback can focus instead on its own particular recipe of quirky style and punchy performance, particularly in its newest electric form.

It’s hard to argue with the idea that the 2020 Soul is coming into its own in this latest iteration. The urban runaround has always been distinctive, not to mention had its share of fans. For the 2020 model year, though, the design cred has stepped up a notch.

Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 FF Review

Having recently reviewed the excellent HD Pentax-D FA* 50mm f/1.4 AW lens, there is a strong sense of deja vu as we look at the Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 FF lens for Nikon and Canon full frame cameras. Very clearly the two are closely related, maybe not 100% identical, but certainly sharing the same basic specification and build. So we have the potential here for another Zeiss-challenging 50mm optic, this time for Nikon and Canon, and it will be interesting indeed to see if the same potential is realised.

9 Things to Do Before Installing iOS 12.1

There are some steps you should take before you install Apple’s iOS 12.1 update on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

The iOS 12.1 update is a milestone release and it comes with new features, bug fixes for iOS 12 problems, and patches for your device.

If you’re currently running iOS 12.0.1, you get the shortest list of changes and the smallest download. If you’re running an older version of iOS, your iOS 12.1 update and download will be much bigger thanks to the updates you skipped. They’re baked into your version of iOS 12.1.

XFX Radeon RX 590 Fatboy review: Pedal to the heavy metal

Smaller process, bigger cooler, faster speeds—with tradeoffs

How can improvements to the GPU manufacturing process make graphics cards better? There’s no one solution, and today’s launch of the $280 Radeon RX 590 shows that Nvidia and AMD took two wildly divergent paths in the shift to the 12nm process.

Nvidia’s used the extra space and process improvements to cram its GeForce RTX 20-series graphics cards with radical, futuristic hardware devoted to driving adoption of real-time ray tracing and machine learning in games.

2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO tops AMG GT 2-door revamp

Mercedes has given its AMG GT a revamp, with the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupes and Roadsters also joined by a fearsome 2020 AMG GT R PRO for the track. The automaker’s most potent sports cars got their big reveal at the LA Auto Show 2018 today, gaining new styling, better performance, and more cabin technology.

On the outside, the updated AMG GT takes inspiration from the 2019 AMG GT 4-door coupelaunched earlier this year. That includes new LED high performance headlamps and an arched light guide, the latter serving as a daytime running light, navigation light, and turn signals in one. A new multi-chamber reflector system gives a new light signature, while the LED rear lights now have dark backgrounds.

Sapphire Radeon RX 590 Nitro+ review: The new 1080p gaming champion

Heavy metal, refined

AMD’s Radeon RX 590 is the best 1080p graphics card you can buy, and at $280, it won’t break the bank. But the Sapphire Radeon RX 590 Nitro+ we’re reviewing today proves it’s even better than we originally thought.

The card draws an immense amount of power, and the XFX Radeon RX 590 Fatboy that AMD sent U.S. reviewers ran hot despite coming equipped with a massive triple-slot cooler. Pushing AMD’s Polaris architecture so far—this is the same GPU’s third incarnation, after the Radeon RX 480 and 580—requires heavy metal, we concluded at the time.

2020 Kia Soul EV leads funky 3rd-Gen refresh

Kia has pulled the wraps off the brand-new 2020 Soul, including both the 2020 Soul EV electric hatchback, and its gas-engined siblings. Debuting at the LA Auto Show 2016, the new Soul gets fresh styling that riffs off the boxy aesthetic of the old car but with cleaner detailing.

That means new headlamps, now with a connecting trim piece that underscores the new Soul’s width, and slim daytime running lights. There’s a larger front grille with a two-tone grille on the gas-engined cars, while the front fenders have been bolstered. At the rear, there are three-dimensional boomerang-shaped tail lamps that wrap around the bodywork.

Gigabyte AB350-Gaming Review

Gigabyte’s AB350-Gaming motherboard is aimed at those building a rig on the super-cheap. We take a look at its gaming credentials.

What is the Gigabyte AB350-Gaming?

The Gigabyte AB350-Gaming is the second-cheapest board in our recent AMD AM4 motherboard test group, and its £83 price means it’s only £8 pricier than the MSI B350 PC Mate.

That puts these two budget boards on a collision course. The Gigabyte product takes aim at gaming, while its rival MSI is an all-rounder – but can either succeed on such a tiny budget?

2020 Jeep Gladiator pickup pairs Wrangler style with go-anywhere 4×4

All hail the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, promising to be a pickup par excellence and the midsize truck to make you forget anything Chevrolet or Ford might have on offer. Making its long-anticipated debut at the LA Auto Show 2018 today, the 2020 Gladiator gives Jeep a crew cab option, with a 5-foot steel bed and the styling the automaker is known for.

Indeed, at the front you’d be forgiven for mistaking the Gladiator for a Jeep Wrangler. You get the familiar keystone-shaped grille and round headlamps, while at the rear the square tail lamps are present and correct. There’s a fold-down windshield, too, and the choice of a soft top or two hardtops.

Acer Switch 7 review in progress

The Acer Switch 7 comes with everything in the box the Surface Pro 6 doesn’t, but how does it compare?

What is the Acer Switch 7?

The Acer Switch 7 is a 2-in-1, Windows 10 convertible that features a 13.5-inch 2256 x 1504 touchscreen with stylus support.

A Wacom EMR stylus and a keyboard dock is included in the box – which, at a glance, makes the Acer Switch 7 a compelling alternative to the Surface Pro; the latter requires you to shell out extra for those two extra accessories.

The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO speeds smarter with lavish new aero

If throwing extra horsepower at a car is the quick & dirty way to improve performance, then coaxing more speed through aerodynamic changes is arguably the more elegant. That’s the route Mercedes-AMG has taken with the 2020 AMG GT R PRO, certainly, and while its carbon-fiber flourishes may look unusual, there’s no denying that they deliver the goods on the track.

It’s based, unsurprisingly, on the existing AMG GT R. That has sat at the top of the ‘Benz tuner’s performance car tree since 2016, packing a hand-crafted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 gas engine that gives 577 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque to play with.

MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon Review

The MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard looks the business and offers plenty for the mainstream gamer.

What is the MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon?

The £170 price for the MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon puts it right in the middle of the market for gaming motherboards, and it also makes it £17 more expensive than its nearest rival, the ASRock Fatal1ty X470.

That slightly higher price gets you one of the best-looking mid-range gaming motherboards around, but what about the rest of the specification?

Audi e-tron GT Concept is a drop-dead gorgeous 4-door EV

When you’re building an electric supercar, who better than Tony Stark to give it that superstar shine. “I’ve been having an extramarital affair with Audi for more than a decade now,” Robert Downey Jr jokingly quips at the unveil of the Audi GT Concept. Downey took the stage with legendary automotive designer Marc Lichte, to pull the wraps off a jaw-dropping car that, though dubbed a concept, is in fact an astonishing 99-percent product ready.

It’s no secret that Audi is in a longstanding love affair with Marvel Studios, too. The Audi R8 will forever be entwined with Tony Stark, the billionaire genius and playboy philanthropist character portrayed to perfection by Robert Downey Jr.

Never buy a new phone: 5 reasons to wait

Today we’re going to have a quick chat about why buying a new phone is a bad idea. To be real clear here right out the gate, I don’t mean all new phones – only new phones that’ve only just been released. This goes for all brands, no matter the place or carrier – and it’s only very recently become more important than ever before.

5. Different Colors, Better Editions

Mobile phones are released in a limited number of colors, editions, and sometimes even materials.

Charmingly brash, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is just what it needs to be

Brash, unmistakable, and borderline excessive, if there’s one thing you can’t accuse the 2020 Jeep Gladiator of being it’s lacking in confidence. The brand new pickup may have only just emerged from under the sheets at the LA Auto Show 2018, but already it’s shaping up to deliver 90-percent of the charming madness of a Hummer only with a fraction of the frustration.

A sizable chunk of the appeal is how unapologetic the Gladiator is. From the ridiculous name to the removable stamped doors, open-top options, and squared-off styling, this is no coy nod at retro. Instead, Jeep took the boxy Wrangler and then grafted a five foot bed on the back.

Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 vs EF 24-105mm f/4 II – The complete comparison

When the Canon EOS R was launched in late 2018, it was accompanied by four native RF lenses whose focal lengths cover the basic needs of most photographers, from the fast 35mm 1.8 Macro and 50mm 1.2 primes to the standard 24-70mm f/2 and 24-105mm f/4 zooms.

The final lens is arguably the most versatile of the four because it has the widest zoom range, making it an appealing choice for those who want to carry a single lens for everyday photography and travel.

Honor Magic 2 Review: enchanting but mildly disappointing

The quest for “edge to edge” bezel-less screens have forced smartphone makers to search for solutions to a problem of their own making. Unless you completely ignore it the way Samsung does (at least for now), there is no escaping the notch, a.k.a. the cutout, in its various shapes and sizes. Some, like Vivo and OPPO, have briefly toyed with and quickly abandoned the idea motorized elevating front cameras. Others, like Meizu and ZTE’s nubia, ditched the front camera entirely but put a second screen on the back instead. Another path, which may still gain some traction, is the one taken by Honor in the Honor Magic 2. But no matter how the Huawei sub-brand spins the narrative towards AI and cameras, there will be little doubt in people’s minds: the slider takes center stage.
