Xbox One S vs PS4.5 Neo vs Nintendo NX: how the new consoles are stacking up

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are shaking up their hardware, but which one is right for you?

Announced at E3 2016, the Xbox One S showed off a new iteration of a current console that wasn’t quite “next-gen,” but still a considerable upgrade for first-time buyers and Xbox One owners alike.

It seemed strange at first, this sort of half-step into the next generation of consoles. But the more gamers wrapped their heads around the idea of a system that would be able to upscale past games to 4K, play Ultra HD Blu-rays and render games in HDR, the more they warmed up to this supposed XboxOne-and-a-Half.

It isn’t just Microsoft who has incremental hardware updates on its mind, however. Both Sony and Nintendo have brand-new hardware in the works as well – inadvertently creating another console war mid-way through the original bout started with the Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U.

Sonos vs. Denon HEOS: Which wireless speaker system stands supreme?

[su_slider source=”media: 32701,32702,32703,32704,32705,32706,32707,32708,32709,32710,32711,32712,32713,32714″ width=”640″ height=”460″ title=”no”] [/su_slider]

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Sonos must be feeling pretty flattered right about now. Either that or pretty pissed off. Ever since Denon decided to throw its hat into the wireless audio ring, it has been ripping pages from Sonos’s playbook with the kind of unapologetic swagger you’d expect from Donald Trump. Its first HEOS product line up included the HEOS 3, HEOS 5, and HEOS 7, which not only mirrored Sonos’s strategy of offering different sizes of speaker for different applications, it blatantly matched Sonos’s naming convention of using the number of speaker drivers to identify the products (Play:3, Play:5).

Sonos responded to this flattery with a lawsuit (which Denon then tried to quash) but just like Trump, Denon doubled down rather than back down. Its HEOS product line has ballooned over the last 24 months and now includes four stand-alone speakers, a soundbar/subwoofer combo, two wireless receivers (one that’s amplified and one that isn’t), a wireless range extender, and a rack-mountable four-zone amplifier and audio distribution unit. Two months ago, the company revamped almost every product to include Bluetooth and hi-res audio support under a designation it calls HS2 (look for this to know you’re buying the latest version).

iPhone 7 rumors : iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPhone Pro?

The new iPhone doesn’t come out until September, but that won’t stop the rumor mill from churning at a furious pace.

Now that WWDC is over, the iPhone 7 rumors are getting even louder, since its expected unveiling in September is probably the next time we’ll see Tim Cook on stage. Yes, that’s still a good while from now. To help keep track of all the scuttlebutt, we’re collecting every rumor we’ve heard so far—and every new one that crops up between now and the day Tim pulls the new iPhone out of his pocket. Then we’ll assess whether each rumor seems legit or absurd, and we’d love to hear your thoughts too.

2016 Rolls-Royce Wraith Review – Leave the chauffeur at home

The 2016 Rolls-Royce Wraith is something of an outlier for the British luxury brand – it’s the Rolls you drive yourself, rather than enjoy from the more traditional perspective of the rear seat. Past that, however, it’s also a car that intends to make your time behind the wheel a bit more engaging than what your chauffeur would experience piloting the four-door Ghost sedan on which the Wraith is based. Either way, after driving this two-door behemoth in and around Montreal, there’s one thing I can state without reservation: regardless of where you’re sitting, being inside the Rolls-Royce Wraith is an event in and of itself.

It’s only natural that a car measuring 17 feet in length would have an impact on a crowd regardless of the badge, but the Wraith takes the ripple made by its mammoth size one step further by pinging the bling detector of every pedestrian and passerby within a 50-foot radius. Even those who really have no interest in anything automotive instinctively recognize that the Rolls-Royce Wraith is something special as it floats silently down the street like some fantastical steam-punk conveyance pulled directly from the mind of Terry Gilliam.

Top 15 Trucks for Towing

Men need cars that function. We need cars that do things. We need cars that resemble us. A strong and powerful man will throw another man over his shoulder and carry him the rest of the way, and a strong and powerful car will latch another onto its back and carry it as far as it needs to go. Some SUVs can do a little bit of towing. But when you need a heavy-duty tow, you appeal to the truck. As we consider these trucks, the question that we are asking is which is the strongest. Which of these trucks is most like us? Which resembles our strength and our power?

2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD Wallpapers

1. 2015 GMC SIERRA 3500HD

With 297 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque, this heavy duty truck is finely-tuned for the man who needs a tow. It is featured with boats that weigh up 20,000 pounds and trailers that weigh up to 23,000 pounds. Since we all know how stressful carrying that kind of load can be, this model features trailering technology. By implementing some of the most sophisticated engineering of the day, this pickup truck is not only strong, but also smart. It features Digital Steering Assist, sway control, Hill Start Assist, which will hold the breaks to allow you the time that you need to switch to the accelerator, a rearview camera, and a close monitoring system of your trailers’ breaks. With this model, you have both power and control.

Virtual reality peripherals to check out

With the major headsets out, would you use these virtual reality accessories?

After years in development and constant reassurances that no, really, it’s going to happen, virtual reality is finally becoming a practical reality.

The Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive are now available, and PlayStation VR finally has a release date set for October of this year and the public will finally get to see that VR isn’t just an elaborate prank by the tech industry. Soon it’ll be common knowledge what separates VR from traditional gaming.

VR peripherals to check out

But the headset alone isn’t enough to totally set it apart. When you’re playing VR games with standard devices like Oculus Touch, the Xbox One controller, Vive controllers and PS VR Move, chances are you still won’t be fully immersed in the experience. They’re great devices but your hands are still only controlling digital hands.

GGMM E3 Wireless Smart Speaker review : This little speaker delivers big sound

The E3 is a compact speaker that combines sleek, elegant design; superior sound; and flexible connectivity options.

The GGMM E3 is a compact tabletop speaker that combines sleek, elegant design with superior sound. Unlike many speakers in its $100 price range, the E3 isn’t limited to streaming music from Bluetooth sources. You can also connect it to your Wi-Fi network and stream music from DLNA sources or from cloud-based services such as Pandora and Spotify.

Available in dark gray, ice blue, or pearl white, the E3 boasts a clean and sleek design with a simple, not overly bright LED clock adorning its metal front. Unfortunately, it’s a 24-hour, military-style alarm clock instead of the more conventional 12-hour variety. It’s an odd choice to be sure, but you can wake up to either a favorite tune or a default chime with a pleasant classical-meets-EDM vibe.

Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG Review

The Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG is not the only decent laptop selling for under $600, but it is one of the few that offers worthwhile gaming chops. With high-quality hardware, long battery life and competent performance for both work and play, the $550 E5 is better than you might expect for the price. On the other hand, a so-so screen, shallow keys and an uncomfortable touchpad drag the experience down a peg or two, but these are annoyances, not deal breakers. The Aspire E5 does what users will expect, and a little more, which makes it worth a look.

Design

The Aspire E5-575G-53VG is fairly handsome but subdued. The black, plastic chassis features a subtle thatched pattern with a finish somewhere between shiny and matte. As a result, the device looks rather unremarkable, which is probably exactly what heavy-duty productivity users want.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II field test

Two days before the first round of the 2016 World Endurance Championship, I was asked if I would like to test the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity.

The EOS-1D series has long been Canon’s answer to the ultimate professional camera. This latest version promises to continue the tradition. Like its forerunners, it has been hotly anticipated for almost a year, and true to form, the camera has been announced not long before the Olympic Games.

What’s changed?

CanonEOS1DXII-CMYK-2

If you were looking for a significant change in the headline figures over the EOS-1D X – the 1D X Mark II’s predecessor – you’ll be disappointed. The Mark II body has seen a small increase in resolution from 18.1 to 20.2 million pixels, and ISO has been increased from 204,800 to 409,600 at the top end. Frames per second (not in live view) has increased from 12fps to 14fps.

Sinn 1800 S Damaszener Watch With Damascus Steel Case Hands-On

One of the more avant-garde “German tool watches” from the last few years is easily the Sinn 1800 S Damaszener (aBlogtoWatch debut here). We’ve seen the Frankfurt-based maker of tool watches slowly expand its offerings (not that Sinn doesn’t have enough SKUs at any given time as it is) to include more “art” watches in addition to the “professional” timepieces that the company is well-known for. What makes many of these more “lifestyle-oriented” watches from Sinn interesting is that they seek to combine skills the brand is known for in terms of making durable, go-anywhere watches with more aesthetic techniques which celebrate craftsmanship.

At Baselworld 2016, I was able to check out this prototype of the already sold-out (some retailers like WatchBuys still have a few in stock at the time of writing) Sinn 1800 S Damaszener watch, and I have to say that in person the watch looks really cool. Sure, it isn’t for everyone, but I think it was a fantastic idea for Sinn to attempt a piece like this. The real “achievement” is in making a fully Damascus steel case that is also durable. To this end, Sinn applies their “tegimented process” to the steel and also coats it in black. The result is a corrosion-resistant Damascus steel case that is also hardened to protect against dents and scratches.

Definitive Technology BP9040 review

definitive-technology-bp9040-05

The BP9040 tower speaker and its innovative Atmos dock enables users to keep height speakers as an option, without needing to invest in Atmos from the get-go. If you’re not all that excited by Atmos or DTS:X, just stick with the BP9040 a la carte ($1,800 per pair). If you change your mind in a year or two, pick up a set of A90 add-on height speakers ($500 per pair), plug ’em in, redo the set-up of your home theater, and you’ll be in business.

The Def Tech’s sound quality is geared toward movies, especially after adding the optional docking speakers, with the onboard subwoofers adding real punch to action movies. Music is pretty serviceable but you’ll need a warm amp to counter the bright-sounding drivers

NuForce HEM6 review

Premium in-ears with a price point to match.

OUR VERDICT

If you can get on board with the price point, the HEM6s are a great pair of headphones that really sing when paired with the right genres.

There was a time when the quality of in-ear headphones paled in comparison to their on-ear and over-ear counterparts.

Partly the issue was one of perception, people associated the idea of in-ears with the cheap earbuds that came bundled with the early iPods and iPhones which had a weak tinny sound and poor bass response.

Olympus TG-Tracker review

OUR VERDICT

The TG-Tracker’s stylish and rugged design helps it stand out from the boxy action cam crowd, and it’s got specs and features to go with those looks, making it a serious challenger to GoPro and other established names.

The TG-Tracker is Olympus’s first venture into the action camera market, and its camcorder-like design stands in stark contrast to the usual box design favoured by market leaders GoPro and the majority of other action camera makers.

Olympus is by no means new to rugged cameras, however, with an existing range of ‘Tough’ compacts. These are fully waterproof and shockproof, so it’s no surprise that the small TG-Tracker shares similar design traits, the Tough branding and a bright green colour option in addition to black.

OLED vs. LED TVs : Thanks to HDR, the gap is closing

For the last few years, OLED TVs have been the best in the business, receiving rave reviews and high praise from consumers and reviewers alike. But with HDR—also known as High Dynamic Range—now entering the market, traditional LED TVs are benefiting from supercharged performance that threatens OLED’s reign at the top.

How do I know? I recently got the chance to be a guest presenter at the 12th annual “Value Electronics TV Shootout.” There we put four of the top TVs on the market through a punishing series of tests in front of an unflinching panel of experts with the goal of crowning one winner.

This year, the HDR-compatible LG G6 series won pretty handily, with its OLED panel taking the top spot in almost every category. But while that would seem to suggest that OLED dominated the proceedings, with HDR content the gap was closer than it’s ever been.

The Competitors

This year’s shootout put four flagship TVs from LG, Samsung, Sony, and Vizio head-to-head. Robert also set up his old Kuro Elite—regarded by many videophiles as the best consumer television ever produced—as a reference screen, as well as a way to show off just how far TV tech has come with regard to new High Dynamic Range standards.

Aprilia RSV4 RR vs. Ducati 959 Panigale vs. Kawasaki ZX-10R vs. Yamaha YZF-R1 – COMPARISON TEST

Associate Editors Bradley Adams and Sean MacDonald run through the pluses and minuses of each bike participating in Cycle World’s 2016 Superbike test…and pick a winner.

There’s a semblance of similarity between the bikes we’ve brought with us to Buttonwillow, with only Ducati’s 2016 959 Panigale suggesting something is at odds. The rest—Aprilia’s RSV4 RR, Kawasaki’s all-new ZX-10R, and Yamaha’s YZF-R1—are all built with the intention of winning races, shattering lap records, filling podiums the world over, and pulling on the heartstrings of the power-hungry enthusiast. Consider this test then an opportunity to see which pulls the hardest, how the latest literbikes from Aprilia and Kawasaki stack up to a derivative of last year’s superbike shootout winner, the R1M, and how Ducati’s largest-ever “middleweight” compares to the (not-all-that-much) bigger competition.

Consider it also something no amount of muscle spasms could convince us to cut short. Body aches and sunsets be damned; we have throttles to twist.

iNew U8W Review – New Cheap Smartphone

iNew U8W is the latest smartphone of iNew launched in July 2016. The phone falls under a very low price range of $69. The device comes with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of ROM and is powered by quad core processor. The 1.3 GHz MTK6580 chipset is pretty decent considering the price range.

Covr Photo for iPhone 6/6s Review : Clever (But Sneaky) Candid Pics

Photos taken with your cellphone, among other problems, make it impossible to get anything resembling an honest, genuine expression — not with a camera a foot from you and your friends’ faces. Instead, you get hundreds of shots filled with duck faces, canned reactions and uneasy, strained smiles. That’s where Covr Photo comes in, with an innovative $50 iPhone lens kit that lets you snap photos from an unobtrusive position, so you can capture candid expressions without alerting your subject. However, while Covr Photo definitely lives up to its claim of letting you capture what’s real, a few design quirks and limitations often leave this kit feeling like a gimmick instead of a real photo revolution.

Apple iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6S vs iPhone 6: What’s the rumoured difference?

Apple’s next generation of iPhones are expected to launch some time in September. Assuming the company follows its traditional release cycle and naming, it is thought we can expect to see an iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus appear.

Plenty of rumours have been doing the rounds over the last few months, all claiming to know what the new iPhones will feature. In light of this, we have put them all up against the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6 to see what the differences could be, based on the speculation.

The Apple iPhone 7 has been rumoured to be coming with a similar design to theiPhone 6S and iPhone 6, despite it being a redesign year. It is thought the antenna strips on the rear will see a move to the top for a cleaner look, while other rumours suggest the headphone jack will be removed altogether in favour of Lightning only and an extra speaker.

B&O BeoPlay H3 ANC review

Paying £200/$300 for a pair of in-ear headphones is no small ask, but then B&O isn’t exactly a company that concerns itself with budget.

In fact, amidst a range of £1,800/$2,700 soundbars (BeoSound 35), £7,000/$10,500 TVs (Beovision Avant 55) and £50,000/$75,000 speakers (BeoLab 5), B&O has actually managed to make the Beoplay H3 ANC headphones look like a bit of a bargain.

Build and comfort

Like most B&O products, the Beoplay H3 earphones certainly don’t scrimp in the design stakes. Each earbud features a brushed metal outer casing made from a single piece of aluminium, with 29 precision-drilled holes that B&O says work as air vents for a more natural sound reproduction.

Jabra Halo Smart review : If you’re all talk, this Bluetooth headset is a solid choice

These affordable Bluetooth headphones let you switch seamlessly between phone calls and music.

Some people are incredibly busy and take calls at all hours of the day and night. Those who are self-aware enough to not want to look a dweeb with a Bluetooth earpiece hanging out of one ear now have other options, such as Jabra’s new Halo Smart headset. These Bluetooth headphones ($80 and available at Amazon) let you seamlessly switch from calls to music without swapping out one pair of earbuds for another. Bonus: If Apple ditches the iPhone’s headphone jack, you’ll be ahead of the curve with an affordable Bluetooth pair on standby.

I confess that I’m not the biggest fan of in-ear headphones. The tip fit is always slightly off, most Bluetooth models don’t sound the best, and models that wire the left and right channels together—and the ones that have a  band behind the neck—often get tangled in my long, thick hair. I’m a wireless earphone skeptic, but I’m always on the hunt for a great product.

Xbox One S preview: Thinner, better PS4 beater

Although Microsoft launched a console even more powerful for next year, theXbox One S announcement during its E3 2016 media briefing must still be lauded as one of the more significant moves of the show.

The slimmer, trimmer machine puts Microsoft in a strong position coming up to Christmas this year. It is out on 2 August, has 4K HDR video output capabilities, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray support, HDR gaming talents and costs just £249/$373,5 for the entry level model. If you haven’t jumped on board with this generation of gaming yet, now’s the ideal time.

Microsoft will be spec’ing the console with 500GB, 1TB or, for the first time, a2TB drive at a premium of an extra £100/$150. It has also ditched the enormous power brick of the original – a feat unto itself considering how tiny the new console’s cabinet.

Loupe System iPhone Mountable Macro Lens Review

For the serious watch enthusiast, a good loupe should be as essential an accessory as a selection of high-quality straps or basic tools. Why? Because a proper loupe opens up a new world of watch appreciation that would otherwise be difficult to capture without expensive camera gear and a rather high level of expertise in photography. The Loupe System was designed from the ground up to blow its competition right out of the water – ahem, claiming to be “The best hand-held loupe you have ever looked through!” – and, more importantly, it was from the get-go engineered to be used specifically to inspect and photograph watches. Today, we take a look at how the Loupe System fairs as a loupe and how well it performs as a camera lens when mounted onto an iPhone 6S Plus. //Nerd alert!//

2017 Infiniti QX30 First-Drive: Crossover style, German cred

The 2017 Infiniti QX30 is Japanese designed, built in post-Brexit Britain, with German parts and engineering, and packaged for crossover-loving America: if that doesn’t earn it the title of a “global car”, I’m not sure what would. Taking over the reins of guiding new-to-brand buyers into the Infiniti family from the now-deceased G-series sedan, the QX30 arrives with high ambitions indeed, proudly setting its sights on the small, luxury crossovers from BMW and Audi.

Usually you’d discount that as premium upstart posturing, and I wouldn’t blame you. This time around, though, Infiniti has a secret weapon: underneath Japan’s bold styling, this car speaks German.
