This afternoon Ford announced their collaboration with Carbon3D to begin producing high-quality automotive-grade parts with speed. This team-up began in December of 2014 when the companies began talks on how they might speed up production of certain elements in vehicles while retaining quality control. Redwood City-based Carbon3D presented CLIP – Continuous Liquid Interface Production technology. This technology is able to grow parts from UV-curable resins “at speeds as much as 25 to 100 times faster than conventional 3D printing processes.” With quality Ford expects, of course.

Kenwood has announced that its first multimedia car receivers with support for Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto are now shipping to retailers. The company says that these two models are considered their new flagships, as aside from the smartphone infotainment integration, they offer a number of premium features. The receivers were first unveiled at CES this year, but now we have the prices to go along with them: the Excelon DDX9902S will sell for $950, and the DDX9702S for $900.

Chevrolet has chopped the roof off its everyman sportscar to create the 2016 Camaro Convertible, though this is no hack-job soft top. While it may not have a folding metal roof, the Camaro Convertible does get what Chevy is calling the most advanced lid of the segment, not only fully-powered in operation but with automatically releasing and securing latches, and a powered hard tonneau cover that makes the whole thing a hands-off experience.

Back in the day, the parking brake was known as the emergency brake. I grew up thinking that if you really needed to stop, you cranked that handle up to get the car stopped. After driving for a few years, I realized that locking up the wheels is the best way to lose control of the car, which is why we have anti-lock brakes. The challenge in preventing accidents with other cars and pedestrians is not only to get the brakes activated more quickly, but also to get the brakes themselves to function better.

Both enables cyclists to gather and store data metrics on their rides, such as how far they travel during a ride and how long they spend cycling, how fast they were going during a session, where all they travelled, how high they ascended, and more. In addition and depending on the model, the data can be shared with others.

As a follow-up to their new GoDrive car rental service in the UK,Ford has just announced a new pilot program that will let drivers lower their monthly car payments by renting out their Ford vehicle to others for short periods of time. They’re calling the program Peer-2-Peer Car Sharing, and it will be tested in a handful of US cities. It aims to work much like ZipCar, allowing users to borrow a set of wheels for just a few hours if needed.

When Google unveiled its urban improvement initiative, Sidewalk Labs, it left one big question: what was this new outfit actually working on? As of today, you should have a good idea. Sidewalk and a group of investors have bought and merged two key companies behind LinkNYC, an effort to offer free, public WiFi across New York City. The combined entity, Intersection, will extended LinkNYC’s internet-for-all technology to cities worldwide. Ideally, you’ll one day “walk down any street” and expect to get fast wireless data. That sounds more than a little ambitious, but it makes sense given Google’s sheer clout and desire for a ubiquitous internet. The easier it is for you to hop online, the easier it is for Google to serve up its money-making ads.

Yes, we know – it’s 2015, the year Marty jumped to in Back to the Future 2 and you still don’t have a hoverboard. Right on time, Lexus has presented the latest example from its “Amazing in Motion” series of video spectacles: the Lexus Hoverboard.

As you can see in the video after the break, it certainly appears to hover, and smoke, but no one actually hops on the magnetically-levitating device for a ride. Gizmodo heard from the carmaker that this project has been in development over the last 18 months, but couldn’t get more specific info on how it works.

Apparently, Tesla Model S owners like to hit the road quite often. The electric car maker has revealed that Model S drivers have collectively notched up more than 1 billion miles, or enough usage to prevent over 570,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the EV’s three-year history. Is this marketing hype? Absolutely — we’re sure that conventional car brands wouldn’t even blink at that milestone. However, it’s evidence that Tesla is growing up as a company. It’s an established (if small) presence in an industry where electric cars still tend to be treated as side projects, rather than the main attraction.

Early adopters of iOS 9 beta 2 have discovered a new feature that will temporarily delete apps from overloaded devices when there isn’t enough space to install system updates.Many users with the smaller 8GB and 16GB iPhones reportedly had difficulty fitting the last upgrade onto their mobile devices. And while iOS 9 is only a fraction of the size of iOS 8 (they’re 1.3 GB and 4.3 GB, respectively), Apple is clearly trying to nip similar complaints in the bud this time around. The new feature will of course reinstall the deleted app once the update has completed — plus, presumably, any user data that was deleted along with the app itself.

Panoz’s arrow-shaped DeltaWing car concept technically hit the race track last year whenNissan’s ZEOD RC prototype participated in Le Mans, but it wasn’t exactly a dream come true. Nissan was no longer part of the DeltaWing program at that point, and the ZEOD RC completed just a few laps — only one of which was under electric power. The automaker isn’t deterred, however. It’s planning to field an all-electric DeltaWing racer at Le Mans, and it intends to go the full 24 hours. Not that this will be easy.

Google must not be content to sit on the sidelines as Spotify tries to conquer the streaming media world — the internet behemoth has unveiled a free, ad-supported version of Google Play Music’s streaming service for the US. It’ll be familiar if you’ve tried these no-charge listening options before. Besides having to deal with occasional commercial interruptions, you’ll lose the direct control that you have with a paid subscription (which, by the way, is dropping the All Access label). You can start a radio-like station based on an artist, album or song, but you won’t have on-demand playback, offline support, playlist creation or background listening for YouTube music videos. It’s more for ambient tunes than anything else.

Honda is hitting the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in this experimental CR-Zwith an electric powertrain driving and steering all four wheels up the twisting mountain route. Honda is running a CR-Z at Pikes Peak this year. But as you might have guessed, this is no ordinary CR-Z. This particular racing prototype packs an experimental powertrain.

Though precise technical specifications remain a closely guarded secret at this point, our source at Honda has confirmed a few key details. For starters, the CR-Z racer packs a fully electric powertrain, ditching the 1.5-liter inline-four that forms the internal-combustion component of the street-legal model’s hybrid propulsion system. This contrary to circulating rumors that it could be packing the hybrid powertrain from the new NSX.

Ford is serious about marrying eBikes and cars and just revealed a new bike concept called the MoDe:Flex, complete with a new smartwatch app. Like other prototypes from its new Palo Alto Research and Innovation Center, it’s an electric-assisted bicycle that uses a special app to help you do “multimodal” commutes via car, train and bike. This model is aimed more at car owners, however, as you can quickly break it down into two equal pieces for easy trunk storage. The idea is to drive part way to your destination, park, then put the Mode:Flex bike together and finish the trip by leg power, with a battery assist for steep hills.

Another Ubuntu phone, another unusual launch. After the BQ Aquaris E4.5, which debuted with a series of online flash sales, Canonical is following up with an invite-only handset built by Meizu. Yep, the same Meizu that once hoped to release an Ubuntu phone in 2014. The new MX4 “Ubuntu Edition” has been available to developers in Chinasince May, but starting tomorrow you’ll be able to order one in Europe too. At least, you will if you’re lucky enough to receive an invite. Canonical and Meizu aren’t revealing how many will be available each day, so you’ll just have to visit their teaser site, complete the “origami wall” and hope for the best. The company is also staying tight-lipped about whether the invite system will eventually be dropped and if the MX4 will later be sold in other markets.

In the weeks since developers got their hands on the Apple Watch’s watchOS 2 at WWDC earlier this month, we’ve seen things likenative apps running on the wearable, along with games like Flappy Bird, all due to tinkering with the software. Now, in a sign of just far our digital devices have come, one developer has gotten the Apple Watch to run System 7, or specifically Mac OS 7.5.5. That version of the OS was released in September of 1996. Making nearly 20-year old software run on a wrist-computer of today is beyond impressive.

Those mini-drones that cropped up on Parrot’s French websiteearlier this month just became a little more official, at least for those located in North America. The company has revealed the pricing and availability for those in the United States, adding more details on to the pricing and availability we’d previously heard for the European market. The Minidrones, as Parrot calls them, include standard quadcopters, as well as a water vessel that can zoom around on water, and a land drone that features two wheels and the ability to jump up stairs and over small obstacles.
