iPhone XI 3D renders hint at all-new glass back design

“All-new design” seems to be the buzzword for upcoming Apple products. That was how Ming-chi Kuo described the delayed new Macbooks, upcoming iPads, and even new AirPods. The one with the biggest all-new design, however, is the iPhone XI, or iPhone 11 if you want. But in addition to its already controversial camera bump, new information has surfaced pointing to a slightly new design for the glass back as well.

iPad Pro 5G set for 2021, report says

With all the talk of the first 5G iPhone, we hadn’t really given much thought to the prospect of next-gen speeds for the handset’s big brother. However, one noted analyst reckons Apple is plotting the course to an iPad Pro with 5G connectivity in the next couple of years.

Ming-Chi Kuo reckons Apple will introduce a new version of the device next year with improved antenna technology. He says the device will use an LCP Soft Board technology to connect the antenna to the motherboard. This will reduce signal loss and improve the network performance on the iPad Pro, or so the theory goes.

Over-the-air DVR prices compared

How much do cord-cutting DVRs cost after factoring in subscription prices? Let’s find out.

If you’re cutting cable TV and are blessed with solid antenna reception, you’ll have lots of options for recording those free ad-supported broadcast channels.

But with each of these options—from TiVo to Tablo to Fire TV Recast and beyond—the prices can vary widely once you factor in subscription fees, DVR storage, and additional hardware requirements. When calculating the cost benefits of cord-cutting, it’d be helpful to know what an over-the-air DVR really costs over time.

2019 Ford Ranger Raptor v Toyota LandCruiser 78 Series GXL comparison: The trusty ol’ Troopy and the leaping Raptor

It’s the 4WD comparison that you probably didn’t think of, and two vehicles you don’t exactly cross-shop like Corolla v i30, or Navara v Triton. But in a way, the Toyota LandCruiser and Ford Ranger Raptor are definitely competitive.

One is a legend of the Australian 4WD scene – a veteran of service and hardship over decades. Not much has changed, because it hasn’t really needed to. The other is a brand-new design sporting all kinds of stuff never seen before on the humble 4WD ute: internal bypass shocks, 33-inch light-truck all-terrains, and a propensity to jump.

Astell&Kern KANN Cube high-res digital audio player review: Astonishing performance, with a price tag to match

This big, bold powerhouse music player will drive almost any headphone on the market, but it and can also operate as an in-home for critical listening sessions.

Astell&Kern launched its newest digital audio player today, the KANN Cube, at the Fujiya Avic Spring Headphone Festival in Tokyo, Japan. The KANN Cube is the second model released in Astell&Kern’s acclaimed line of KANN music players. About this time last year, I reviewed the original KANN, which Astell&Kern will continue to sell.

After spending a few weeks with the KANN Cube, I can say with confidence to anyone with an unquenchable yearning for a high-performance, feature-rich, high-res digital audio player that’s capable of driving just about any headphone, regardless of impedance level: The KANN Cube is what you’re looking for. But you’ll need deep pockets to indulge your passion: This device will cost $1,499 when it arrives at A&K dealers in June.

Google Pixel 4: Four big features we want to see

With the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Huawei P30 Pro both now on the shelves, our minds are starting to wonder what else could be in store for some other 2019 flagships. Notably Google’s Pixel 4.

The Google Pixel 4 isn’t going to be Google’s next smartphone, as that honour will likely to fall to whatever the brand announces during its I/O conference at the beginning of May. Strong rumours point to this being the constantly leaked Pixel 3a, alongside a larger XL version.

Elon Musk might dream of a fully autonomous fleet of Tesla taxis, but falling demand, mounting losses and tight cash are haunting his reality.

Musk took four hours to present his vision, where cars turn into money-spinning self-driving taxis while their owners are at work or asleep, earlier this week.

iPad Mini 5 Review

The iPad Mini 5 looks exactly like the brand’s original 7.9-inch slate from 2012, yet it packs the same internals as the latest iPhone XS.

Apple’s domination of the tablet market is no more apparent than with the iPad Mini 5. There’s no-one else making a small tablet that comes anywhere close to being a better buy than this, and that shows in the fact that Apple has once again opted to go with the same design.

The company doesn’t need to really try very hard to make the best small tablet. For Apple, it’s simply been a matter of taking parts already present, then adding many of the same internals as the iPhone XS and iPhone XR.

Samsung asks iFixit to take down Galaxy Fold teardown

It has barely been three years since the Galaxy Note 7 started catching fire and here is Samsung again trying to fend off one of the biggest fiascos in its history. Fortunately for the company, it isn’t something it could be sued over yet (unless you consider existing pre-orders) and it’s more of a PR and image problem for the smartphone giant. It isn’t doing itself any favors, though, by asking iFixit to remove its teardown analysis of the problematic Galaxy Fold that clarifies what really caused the issues and, consequently, what future users should be careful about.

TaoTronics TT-BH046 noise-cancelling headphone review: Effective noise cancellation, but poor sound quality

Audio performance improves with ANC on, but it’s still somewhat congested and veiled, especially in noisy environments.

In this noisy world, finding a quiet haven in which you can get lost in your favorite music is a godsend. One way to achieve this elusive dream is by wearing headphones with active noise cancelling (ANC). Among the many such models available today is the TaoTronics TT-BH046 wireless headphone. It turns out to provide excellent isolation from your environment, but its sound quality leaves something to be desired.

AirPods 3 could offer noise cancellation − but we’re less sure about its release date

Apple’s AirPods 2 were only announced a month ago, but we’ve already seen conflicting reports about their successors. The latest claims that the AirPods 3 will be released at the end of this year.

Seeing as previous reports have led us to believe that Apple was planning to release them in 2020, we’re taking this with a big pinch of salt.

2019 Hyundai Tucson v Skoda Karoq comparison : The popular mid-sizer and the newcomer

Both the Skoda Karoq 110TSI and Hyundai Tucson Highlander are built around the same ‘utility vehicle’ philosophy, but despite differences in their makeup, they arrive at very similar conclusions.

We’ve put together the highest spec of each available in Australia to see if Europe’s challenger brand, Skoda, has what it takes to topple the might of Hyundai.

The Tucson has become one of the default choices in the medium-SUV segment, though so far in 2019 it’s a top-five seller in its class, but not the leader. Still, it currently outsells the Karoq by around 16 to one.

2020 MG GS (HS) review: Quick drive

The new-generation MG GS mid-sized SUV is one of the products that will lead the global rollout of China’s SAIC Motor. Pay attention, because this company means business.

China’s biggest auto conglomerate, Shanghai’s SAIC Motor, is busily spreading into international markets like Australia, and the new MG GS (also called HS) is a vital component of its plan.

It’s a conventionally-designed and well-made mid-sized SUV rival to some of the market’s heaviest hitters – offerings such as the Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson, to name but a few.

Geneva Touring S+ review : A desirable DAB radio with Bluetooth capability

The main thing you need to know when choosing a new speaker is whether it sounds good or not. The Geneva Touring S+, a combined DAB radio and Bluetooth speaker, certainly does, but its appeal also lies elsewhere.

The Touring S+ is a lovely object that could have been lifted right out of a design museum. At the same time, it is nowhere near as easy to operate as a small Pure or Roberts DAB radio. Not that that completely ruins the Geneva Touring S+’s likability.
