Puro Sound Labs PuroQuiet review: These headphones are designed to protect children’s hearing

The active noise cancellation works very well at keeping ambient noise from intruding, and it significantly improves the sound quality to boot.

I am a stong advocate for protecting your hearing from noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). This is a bigger problem today than ever before, especially since so many people listen to music from their portable devices on headphones, often cranking the volume to unsafe levels.

Cooler Master MM830 review: Its gimmicks are unnecessary flair

It’s got a D-pad and an OLED, but it’s the basics that will win you over.

Cooler Master is experimenting, and I’m excited. In the past year, we’ve written about the company’s MK850 keyboard and its analog WASD keys, which could change the entire gaming keyboard landscape and how PC gamers play. No pressure or anything.

We’ll be reviewing that soon. But today we’re looking at Cooler Master’s MM830, a mouse with a similarly lofty pitch—though the reality isn’t anything we haven’t seen before.

Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE Review

Samyang’s 85mm f/1.4 lens for Sony FE-Mount and E-Mount cameras, with AF, and full-frame coverage.

The 85mm f/1.4 lens is a classic focal length, long considered the ideal for portraiture, along with landscapes, close up sports and low light photography. Lenses slightly longer than the standard for a format have also traditionally been the pinnacle of optical quality within a range. Samyang have been building an enviable reputation for quality lenses, first in manual focus, more recently moving successfully into AF and now also encompassing the full frame mirrorless Sony cameras. Let’s have a closer look, using the 24MP Sony Alpha A7 III body.

Magic Leap hands-on: Magic, sure, but augmented reality is still a long way away from mass consumption

We’re talking five or ten years at least, I think.

Here are two seemingly contradictory statements: 1) Magic Leap is really neat. 2) You absolutely should not buy one right now. Try one? Sure. But spend over $2,000 to own one yourself? Doubtful, even for early adopters and gadget geeks.

Last week at the Game Developers Conference I finally had a chance to go hands-on with the Magic Leap One for the first time. Then this week, Magic Leap announced you’ll be able to purchase its debut headset in certain AT&T stores starting in April, crossing from a niche product intended for developers to a (somewhat) consumer-facing product.

The phone is the cheapest from the lineup while trying to cover all of the basics. But it’s going to be tough in India where the M10 is aimed at. We’ve got a couple of Chinese makers closing in on both sides so the competition is heating up.

Everything you need to know about pairing your Fitbit with the smart assistant

There’s an Alexa skill for almost everything now, but Fitbit was among the first companies to spot the potential of integrating its fitness trackers with the voice-controlled personal assistant built into Amazon Echo speakers.

Since then, the range of Fitbit trackers available has grown to include smartwatches, and Alexa is pretty much everywhere. Still, the simple method of pairing any Fitbit device with Alexa remains the same.

Apple AirPower axed

Apple has canceled AirPower, throwing in the towel on the wireless charging pad after finding the tech experience it had promised was just too much to actually deliver. Announced back in September 2017, AirPower was to be the Cupertino firm’s late-but-triumphant entrant into the wireless charging space, boasting multi-device flexibility with none of the positioning headaches rival chargers suffered.

Valve’s long-awaited VR headset is coming, and it’s called the Valve Index

All will be revealed in May

Well this is a nice way to finish off the week. Valve has just dropped a massive tease for a VR headset, following months of rumors that the company was working on a rival to the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Valve dropped a teaser of the new headset, called the Valve Index – which looks very similar to the one that leaked last year – on its website and the tagline “Upgrade your experience”. Below that it says “May 2019”, which is presumably when we’ll learn more.

What’s in Galaxy Note 10 (plus the fold of 11)

Today we’re looking at the latest leaked set of Galaxy Note 10 specs with a dash of detail on what’s coming up in 2020. There’s a distinct possibility that the Galaxy Note 11 might open like a book, with a stylus inside for writing on a tablet. It would seem that details from a patent we’ve been investigating recently match up with the plans Samsung’s got in store with the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and the future of the Galaxy Note in its current iteration may fork.

2020 Jeep Gladiator pricing and fuel economy revealed

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator will start from $33,545, with a special Gladiator Launch Edition kicking off sales of the long-anticipated truck. Unveiled last November, the 2020 Gladiator is clearly related to its Wrangler sibling, but Jeep insists that it’s more than just an SUV with a bed tacked on the back.

The five foot box, for instance, will hold 95-percent of motorcycles on the market, Jeep claims. All Gladiator models are 4×4, and have the same 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. That’s good for 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

iFixit AirPods 2 teardown is just as ugly as the first

When the original AirPods first released, iFixit did what it usually does and cracked them open to find out just how repairable they are. The results were not good, as iFixit gave them a dismal repairability rating of 0/10, noting that you couldn’t open them up without damaging them in one way or another. In the end, iFixit said, AirPods were an accessory that were meant to be disposable, which meant that end-user repairs were pretty much out of the question.

2020 Ford Explorer “Mindful Mode” eliminates distractions

We are all besieged with information on screens today from our phones and tablets to computers at home and in the office. Sometimes people want a break from all the digital clutter in their lives. Ford wants to allow drivers to get that break while behind the wheel of the 2020 Ford Explorer.

Ford has baked in a mode for the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in the 2020 Explorer that is a Calm Screen dubbed “Mindful Mode.” That mode strips away all the extra stuff on the display and leaves drivers with a clean and clear screen showing minimal data.

This isn’t our first real look at the Galaxy Note 10 – but it’s still stunning

The Samsung Galaxy Fold hasn’t even hit shelves yet, but all eyes are already turning to the company’s next foldable phone effort, with new images imagining what the Galaxy Note 10 might look like if it went with a similarly radical design.

It’s almost certainly wishful thinking, but Samsung’s next flagship phablet – likely called the Galaxy Note 10 – could see the South Korean firm stick with the foldable form factor only recently debuted with the Galaxy Fold.

Samsung Notebook 9 Pro (13-inch, 2019) Review

If a MacBook and 2-in-1 Windows laptop had a baby, it would be the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro. For a relatively affordable $1,099, Samsung’s latest Notebook offers decent performance and solid battery life packed in a light, premium chassis. And MacBook fans will enjoy its bouncy keys. This 13-inch laptop’s display is dim and the speakers are less than desirable. But overall, the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro is a great 2-in-1 laptop for the price.

The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon Is Priced Like a True Entry-Luxury Car

It starts more than $10,000 higher than the Passat, but it also looks far more appealing.

After a long wait, the Volkswagen Arteon is just about ready to reach U.S. customers’ hands—which means we now know how much it costs. Its $36,840 starting price may seem high considering it’s more than $10,000 higher than the Passat mid-size sedan’s, but to us, the Arteon’s pricing seems commensurate with its more upscale styling and feature content and its more powerful engine. The VW also lines up nicely with other premium-ish hatchback competitors such as the Kia Stinger (starting at $33,495) and Buick Regal Sportback (which starts at $25,995 but rises to the mid-$30,000s when similarly equipped).

2019 Dell XPS 13 (Whiskey Lake 8th-gen Intel CPUs) Review: Our favourite Windows ultrabook just got better

The Dell XPS 13 2018 was a knockout success, earning a Trusted Reviews Recommended award and riding high in our Best Laptops round up for most of last year. It was by no means flawless, with few ports, a not-quite-best-in-class display, and an oddly-placed webcam providing a lovely view of your nostrils, among its sins.

Come 2019, and Dell has justifiably decided not to make significant changes to the XPS 13. Instead, it’s made tiny tweaks flatten out the kinks and keep the ultrabook competitive with the likes of the LG Gram 14Z980 and Microsoft Surface Laptop 2.

Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT Review

Audio-Technica cuts the cord with this aptX Bluetooth streaming turntable

What is the Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT?

It’s getting on for three years since Trusted Reviews cast its steely gaze on Audio-Technica’s AT-LP60BT Bluetooth turntable. At the time, our conclusions were that, “it’s pretty good fun”, “Bluetooth streaming works well”, “it looks a bit naff”.

Although streaming turntables are relatively popular, most of the activity in the market has either been at the “dirt cheap” end or a notch or two above the Audio-Technica’s price – which has left the field relatively clear for the AT-LP60BT. Despite this, the company has forged ahead, delivering the AT-LP60XBT.
