2016 Honda FourTrax Rancher 4×4 Automatic DCT ATV Review

While watching the movie The Martian a few weeks ago, I found myself imagining myself in Matt Damon’s situation. Instead of pondering what I would eat and how I’d actually survive, I couldn’t get my brain past the idea of having the whole Martian planet to myself to negotiate on my ATV of choice. I’m certain I’d want a machine that was incredibly reliable, one that would be able to work hard, focused on efficiency, and would last for as long as it took for me to get rescued.

2016 Honda FourTrax Rancher 4x4 Automatic DCT ATV Review

After spending a few months with the Honda FourTrax Rancher 4×4 Automatic DCT, I think I’ve found my Martian wheels Now… how I plan to keep it fueled with gasoline hasn’t actually been worked out yet. I figure I can work out those details after eating myself into a potato-coma-fueled dream. Truth be told, I’ll likely have to rely on a solution from my buddy/ real botonist Dr. Chris Martine, who just so happened to name a plant he discovered in Australia (Solanum watneyi) after the book/film’s character Mark Watney (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-chris-martine/why-im-naming-a-new-plant_b_8190242.html). But, for now, here’s the scoop on what we’ve affectionately nicknamed The Jolly Rancher. The 2016 Honda FourTrax Rancher 4×4 Automatic DCT ATV.

macOS Sierra Tested : It’s Not an OS, It’s a Gateway Drug

Talking to my computer is not exactly something I’ve always dreamed of. But there Siri is on a Mac for the first time, beckoning me to press her wavy button that now resides in the dock. “What can I help you with?” she asks. Then I start barking commands, like “Open the Laptop 2016 folder,” and it just pops up on my screen in the Finder. Siri’s reply: “Your file, boss.” I could get used to this.

Apple’s assistant is clearly the star feature in macOS Sierra, which is now available in public beta. The final form arrives this fall. But the Sierra update introduces several other upgrades, many of which require an iPhone running the upcoming iOS 10 (or an Apple Watch with watchOS 3) to get the full benefit.

In fact, between cutting text on your iPhone and pasting it to your Mac, using your iPhone’s Touch ID sensor to pay for stuff you’ve bought on your Mac via Apple Pay and the ability to receive new interactive messages sent from iPhones, macOS Sierra seems like the world’s least subtle iPhone ad. Ultimately, macOS Sierra has great potential, but Apple needs to iron out plenty of kinks between now and the fall.

Editors’ Note: We will update our macOS Sierra evaluation once iOS 10 becomes available and we can test those features that rely on the iPhone.

Panasonic TX-32DS500B review

The Panasonic TX-32DS500B doesn’t impress on paper: it’s a 32in screen, has HD Ready resolution (which means it will accept 1080p videos, but won’t be able to display them natively), and costs just £300/$450.

We’ve become so accustomed to testing the latest Ultra HD 4K TVs, the arrival of an old-fashioned HD Ready TV with 32in screen actually comes as a bit of a shock to the system.

But it’s a surprisingly likeable, easy-to-use TV with a compelling picture. It even has Netflix and all the catch-up TV apps.

THE 7 BEST PHABLETS MONEY CAN BUY

[su_slider source=”media: 31667,31668,31669,31670,31671,31672,31673″ width=”640″ height=”460″ title=”no”] [/su_slider]

Everyone thought Samsung was totally nuts when it launched the first Galaxy Note, but now phablets have become so popular that Apple’s gone and made one. Love ’em or hate ’em, phablets are here to stay.

While the definition of the phablet is somewhat ethereal and hard to pin down, for our purposes, we’re going to say that smartphones with displays sized 5.5 inches and up are considered phablets and everything else is just normal. In truth, the standard flagship phone is now about 4.7-to-5.3-inches in size these days. Based on that criteria, we’ve rounded up our favorite king-sized phones into this convenient guide.

7 things you need to know about the Fuji X-T2

Fuji gets serious with autofocus

With the arrival of the X-Pro2 at the beginning of the year, speculation instantly switched to when we’d see an update to the X-T1. With various leaks over the past couple of months, Fuji’s now officially taken the wraps off the X-T2.

While at first glance it may appear that very little has changed from the images you see here compared to the X-T1, they mask numerous changes that could make a camera that’s already a firm favourite with us here at TechRadar, even better. Let’s take a look at some of the key things you to get you up to speed on the X-T2.

Bulgari Octo Velocissimo Chronograph Watch Review

The octagon: ancient yet timeless, simple yet complex, common yet unique. These are some rather impressive attributes not just for a geometric shape but for… well… anything, really. It should be no wonder, then, that one of the most highly praised watch designers of all time, a certain Gerald Genta, also preferred to use this polygon in a fair number of his works. The question that we are looking to answer today is how one of them, the Bulgari Octo Velocissimo – yes, it is one of Genta’s designs and indeed a watch that refers to this iconic shape in its very name – performs and measures up against its tried and proven competition.

Wintel W8 Android & Windows 10 TV Box Review

What is the Wintel W8?

This little, and we mean little, media box packs both the Android 4.4 and Windows 10 operating systems in to its diminutive shell so it’s prospectively a good choice for someone looking to kill two birds with one stone. It’s equipped with an Intel Atom Z3735F processor with generation 7 on-board graphics and it has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. Since launch, sometime toward the end of 2015, the price of the Wintel W8 has dropped rather dramatically so you can now (July 2016) pick one up for around £65 which doesn’t sound bad, at all, but let’s see if there’s any real worth to it being able to run dual operating systems and whether either, or both, are up to the demands of being a compact media hub.

Amazon Echo review

Original review below…

About one year ago I had my first conversation with Alexa, a personal assistant built in to the $179 Amazon Echo (about £125, AU$230). The conversation wasn’t very deep, but I got a good laugh asking Alexa stupid questions, having her shuffle my music and asking about mundane topics like the weather or the time. The earliest conversations were simple, almost child-like.

As the months went on our conversations got deeper as the team at Amazon added more functionality. Soon we could talk about sports, or what I had coming up on my calendar. Alexa could report that the Buffalo Bills lost another game (not that I need an AI to tell me that) and how I was already late for a meeting.

It wasn’t much longer before Alexa could read audiobooks, play my favorite podcasts and control some of the other smart devices I have around the house. Most recently Amazon took Alexa out of the house (figuratively) to teach her about local businesses through Yelp. I can now ask Alexa about where I should go for Chinese food, or when the grocery store closes.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 vs Fitbit Blaze: Which tracker is the fittest?

Fitness tracking has become an important part of many people’s lives, and for good reason. Simply by wearing a device on your wrist, you can tweak your activity and eating habits, which may ultimately lead to a healthier lifestyle. And while Fitbit has arguably dominated the fitness tracking industry for the past few years, it doesn’t mean that Samsung can’t compete within the space, especially having released the Gear Fit 2. So which company should you side with? Fitbit’s flagship device, the Fitbit Blaze, is a full-on smartwatch, but the Gear Fit 2 has some pretty smart features of its own. Check out our comparison of the two fitness trackers below.

LucidSound’s new LS20 gaming headset is surprisingly stylish (hands-on)

You’ve probably never heard of LucidSound, but its products might make you curious. They’re gaming headsets that don’t look like gaming headsets — but are still packed with features.

lucidsound-ls30_w_450

Last year, we checked out the company’s debut product, the LS30, a universal gaming headset with the volume dials and buttons neatly integrated into the earpieces, and which we found offered clear, rich audio and comfortable padding. Plus, it comes with a wireless adapter to easily beam audio from anXbox One or PlayStation 4.

The LS30 costs about $150. But this November, a new model, the LucidSound LS20, will cost $100 (roughly £80 or AU$135) — and it’s even smaller.

OnePlus 3 vs OnePlus 2 vs OnePlus X: Which should you choose?

OnePlus finally unveiled its latest “flagship killer” at an event in June following months and months of rumours. As expected, the OnePlus 3 follows in the path of its predecessor, offering tremendous value for money but is it the right OnePlus device for you?

We have put the specs and our experience of the OnePlus 3 against the OnePlus 2and the smaller OnePlus X to see how they compare and what the differences are between the company’s devices.

The OnePlus 2 measures 151.8 x 74.9 x 9.85mm and weighs 175g. It comes inSandstone Black and there are four covers available to offer a slightly different look. There is also a fingerprint sensor on board, along with USB Type-C. It offers a fantastic build quality and while it isn’t the slimmest device out there, it certainly doesn’t feel budget.

Best Video Editing Laptops of 2016

Few tasks require more horsepower than video editing. While you can trim small clips with even an inexpensive laptop, to work with raw HD or 4K video or to create special effects, you need a fast processor, strong discrete graphics and a high-resolution display. Here are five laptops that are powerful enough to handle even your most demanding video-editing projects.

Best Overall – Asus ZenBook Pro UX501VW

asus-ux-500

A relative bargain, the ZenBook Pro UX501VW has a sharp and vibrant 4K display, a speedy quad-core Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and powerful Nvidia 960M graphics, all for under $1,400. Toyota Corolla Hybrid v Toyota Prius Comparison

Here you have two very different takes on hybrid motoring – the 2016 Toyota Prius, and the 2016 Toyota Corolla Hybrid.

Yeah, we know they’re both Toyota models so there are some similarities between the two, including the fact they’re both five-door hatchbacks. But in other regards, these two are also vastly different.

Sony Xperia E5 review

1. Introduction

The Sony Xperia E5 is the company’s cheapest smartphone in the updated 2016 lineup, but you wouldn’t tell going by just how it looks. The clean and classy design in fact reminds us of Sony’s outgoing flagship, the Z5.

Sony Xperia E5 review

While the main focus has been on the X-series lately, often for the wrong reasons, the reshuffle at the top didn’t obviously send ripples all the way down. It’s business as usual in the E-series and the Xperia E5 clocks in at about the right time of the year to prove that the stuff that works needs no changes.

It’s not to say though that the Xperia E5 didn’t get any special attention. The upmarket design has one checkbox ticked but the specs are more than decent too for the phone’s weight class and price bracket. Building on the previous generations, the Xperia E5 has all the traits of a well-rounded overall package.

Motorola Verve Ones+ review

You’ve seen headphones like the Motorola Verve Ones+ before, albeit at the cinema. The Avengers use them, James Bond, too. Or any film where a team goes forth on a heroic mission, making quips at each other through fantastically tiny earpieces.

It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to use them for music. A spot of Metallica would be very apt for Thor.

That’s the dream: the ability to climb up trees and jump on bad guys while listening to sweet tunes, unencumbered by wires.

The good news is that it’s not a fantasy. Wireless earbuds have been in development for a while now with Onkyo and Samsung also planning to launch truly wireless in-ears, but it is Motorola (or Binatone licensing the Motorola name) who have arrived first at What Hi-Fi? Towers with its Verve Ones+ headphones.

watchOS 3 beta : Our first impressions

Back at WWDC 2016, Apple announced watchOS 3, the third major revision of its smartwatch operating system, which could land with the Apple Watch 2.

For all the success enjoyed by the Apple Watch (haters back down, it’s the number one selling smartwatch by a country mile) the user experience was sorely lacking in parts. watchOS was slow, confusing to use and apps were prone to crashes. What’s more, it was missing key features. Fitness and workout features were half-baked and the app choices felt stagnant.

Plenty to be cracking on with for Apple, then.

Well, we’ve now spent a couple of weeks using the beta of watchOS 3. But is it the game-changing experience a lot of people are hoping for? Read our thoughts below, although we must stress that currently watchOS3 is in beta, and everything could change between now and September. We’ll keep updating our thoughts as things develop.

Apple Killing MacBook Air? Here’s Our Advice

My sister-in-law asked me what Apple laptop to buy and I was a bit surprised by my recommendation. “Get the MacBook Pro,” I said. As a new mom who would be editing lots of photos, I didn’t think she wanted the 12-inch MacBook’s relatively small display, or to deal with its flat keyboard. And, besides, the 13-inch MacBook Pro would give her more power and more ports for the same $1,299 price.

With its low-res screen and outdated processor, the MacBook Air barely entered the conversation, so it doesn’t shock me to hear the rumors that a new Air may never come. Still, that would be pretty big news, especially for those who would prefer to spend less than a grand on their next notebook. But it’s also easy to see why the Air’s time has come.

Putting a Big Picture in a Remarkably Small Pocket: 4 Mini Projectors Reviewed

With the warm spring beckoning us Northerners to the outdoors, thoughts of week-long beach vacations or camping trips bring on a serious dilemma: How in the world are we going to watch movies? OK, maybe, maybe not. But if you happen to be a millennial or a teenager with a smartphone, you know that its screen handily doubles these days for your old pappy’s big-screen TV. Except, it’s really not so big, is it? You can crowd in only so close when you’re trying to share your latest photos or a download of American Horror Story with a group of friends.

Today’s projector manufacturers have heard your cries for help, as well as those of business professionals who need to cart around projectors for presentations. And even the cries from guys like me, who, on a day off in a distant land, wouldn’t mind being able to watch a reasonably large and acceptably high-quality image of a high-def movie on whatever white wall happens to be nearby. After cocktail hour, anyway.

IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 3777 Timepieces For 2016 Hands-On

IWC’s Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 3777 has always been a more entry-level offering from the brand, but nevertheless one of my favorite IWC watches. For me, this is one of the best-rendered aviator chronograph watches on the market, and IWC has both the style and quality nailed. The 2016 IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph models aren’t dramatically different from outgoing models, but rather given small updates and new reasons for people who don’t have one of these models to take a close look at them. Back in January, aBlogtoWatch mentioned this and other new IWC Pilot’s Watch releases for the year.

Yamaha YZ250X vs. YZ450FX – COMPARISON TEST

There are fundamental traits to off-road riding that make it so much fun, like the varying terrain, unique forms of competition, and the numerous types of dirt bikes available. For years, Yamaha has placed a heavy focus on motocross; however, 2016 marks a change, as the Blue Crew has released a pair of hard-core enduro machines: the four-stroke 450FX model and two-stroke 250X.

Yamaha YZ250X off-road sand action

Yamaha YZ250X.

Both bikes are modeled after their motocross brethren and at first glance look strikingly similar. When you dig deeper, though, you’ll find that the 450FX and 250X are actually purpose-built for the rigors of off-road riding. Each machine features revised suspension settings, an 18-inch rear wheel, a wide-ratio transmission, and engine tweaks for off-road riding. But even though both bikes are built for off-road riding rather than the big jumps and crowded tracks of motocross, each machine has its pros and cons, and both have DNA firmly planted in closed-course competition.

Fujiiflm X-T2 vs X-T1: What’s the difference?

We’re used to products being updated, but with some it begs the question whether it’s worth the upgrade or, perhaps, looking at grabbing a bargain and buying the older-generation product on a deal. So how does the just-announced Fujifilm X-T2 compact system camera differ from its X-T1 predecessor?

At first glance the two cameras look relatively similar, embodying a DSLR-style water-resistant design. The X-T2, however, has much larger and taller ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation dials. The former two dials also have press-to-lock/release switches, rather than press-and-hold dials. However, the toggles to adjust drive mode and metering are rather fiddly in the new arrangement.

A key new addition for the X-T2 is dual SD card slots, both of which are UHS-II compatible for super-fast write speeds.

Audi A3 (2016) first drive: Virtual cockpit glory

The Audi A3 has had a face-lift following its 2012 debut, presenting a fresher look to Audi’s top-selling car in the UK. Sitting in the competitive C segment, the Audi A3 has been holding off competition from its stablemate the VW Golf, fending off the cheaper Ford Focus and an increasingly diverse range of small BMW and Mercedes rivals, among many others.

Offering a range of body styles – spanning Sportback (5-door), 3-door, Cabriolet, Saloon, as well as e-Tron and the hot S versions – there’s no shortage of appeal or options for the Audi A3. With the 2016 revision, there’s an eye-watering 127 different configurations according to Audi and no, we haven’t tried to count them.

The Sportback – as Audi calls it – is where it all starts and the model that’s the most common. With this set to storm into 2016, just what has changed for the new Audi A3?

D-Link DIR-879 AC1900 EXO WiFi Router Review

As the cost of network hardware continues to tumble, fast ways of getting online around the home needn’t break the bank. Announced at CES 2016, D-Link’s DIR-879 AC1900 EXO WiFi Router promises a noticeable upgrade from your cable company’s default hardware, without headaches at setup and for a street price of under $150.

Like other models in D-Link’s recent range, the DIR-879 has a grounded-spacecraft look to it, all angles and gloss. The four fold-up antennas don’t twist or rotate as on more expensive models. It’s fairly small, and can be mounted on the wall if you prefer – D-Link includes two long screws to do so – but the bright orange isn’t going to be especially discrete.

Fujifilm’s X-T2 camera pairs a familiar design with 4K video

The new mirrorless arrives in September for $1,600.

Based on recent conversations with Fujifilm camera users, I know many of them couldn’t wait for the X-T1 successor to be announced. And well, that day is finally here. Today, Fujifilm introduced its new X-T2 mirrorless shooter, a major upgrade over the X-T1 from 2014. The X-T2 features a 24.3-megapixel (APS-C) X-Trans CMOS III sensor without a low-pass filter, which should help capture sharp, DSLR-like images. Additionally, there’s an X-Processor Pro chip that, according to Fujifilm, uses improved algorithms to produce a more accurate autofocus system (325 single points, 91 zone).

Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch ‘CK2998’ Limited Edition Watch Hands-On

Omega launched a torrent of new models and colors at Baselworld this past March, and among the new Planet Oceans and Moonphase Speedmasters we found the handsome and entirely charming Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch “CK2998” Limited Edition. Sharing the same basic form as the Moonwatch “First Omega in Space,” this svelte but sporty chronograph is a nod to the reference CK 2998 Speedmaster that Walter Schirra wore in 1962 during his orbital flight on the MA-8 mission of the Mercury Program. Nestled precariously within his ship, the Sigma 7, Schirra orbited the Earth 6 times and, to the benefit of modern day Omega, did so while wearing an early Speedmaster which he had bought for personal use.

BLU Energy XL Review : Exra Long Lasting

You can tell at first glance that the Energy XL, an unlocked Android phone from Blu, is going to live up those two letters at the end of its name. This $299 smartphone features a giant, curved screen that’s even larger than most plus-sized flagships. But Blu’s phone lives up to its name in other ways, with a massive battery that keeps the phone powered up from dawn until long past dusk. You won’t find impressive cameras or a blazing processor in the Blu Energy XL, but you will get a phone that lasts a long, long time.

Tall, slim and metallic

As its name suggests, the Energy XL is large, at 6.3 x 3.2 inches, though it’s also superslim, at 0.33 inches thin. A curved display takes up most of the space the phone has to offer, though the 7.3- ounce devices feels surprisingly sleek and lightweight. In many ways, the Energy XL emulates the 6.2 x 3.1 x 0.29-inch iPhone 6s Plus in both size and design, with a gold metallic finish. The 6.77-ounce iPhone 6s Plus isn’t as hefty, though.
