HTC U Ultra review: Are two displays better than one?

HTC has kicked off 2017 with a new family of devices called HTC U. The logic is simple enough to follow: they are designed to be all about “you” (see what they did there?) and advance the connection between you and your device, for a more symbiotic relationship.

It’s marketing, sure, dressing up the latest developments in HTC’s smartphones, but forging into a new, large device space at the same time with the U Ultra. This isn’t a size of device we’ve seen from HTC for a while – and with phones getting generally larger, it’s a welcomed addition for those looking for more screen space.

Importantly, the HTC U Ultra isn’t HTC’s 2017 flagship – that’s still to come – but this is a premium and powerful device nonetheless. However, is the U a truly exciting new chapter in the HTC smartphone book, or is it just more of the same?

Jabra Move Wireless review

Headphone manufacturers must be delighted at the current interest in all things wireless. Simply add the technology to existing models, and stick another £100 (or more) on the price.

But Jabra doesn’t play that game. The Jabra Move Wireless headphones are affordable and have all the important elements of good Bluetooth headphones, including enjoyable sound.

Build

The Jabra Move Wireless are petite on-ear headphones, like the Beats Solo 3 Wireless but with a slightly skimpier frame.

From a distance you could easily assume they are more expensive than they actually are. A fabric-topped headband and chunky metal stems don’t instantly mark them out as some of the cheapest on-ear wireless headphones around.

Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD Review

Tamron 10 24mm DiII Vc Hld Front Oblique View

For users of Canon and Nikon APS-C format DSLRs, Tamron has upgraded their highly successful 10-24mm zoom. Offering a “35mm equivalent” of 16-37mm (Canon) or 15-36mm (Nikon), let’s see how this new updated lens performs, using the Canon EOS 600D body for this review.

Handling and Features

A wide petal type lens hood is included that bayonets securely onto the lens. This bayonet surrounds a 77mm filter thread. Immediately behind this lies the zoom ring, clearly marked and firm in operation. It is smooth enough, although lacks the silky feel of more expensive optics.

FALCON NORTHWEST MACH V (2016) REVIEW

falcon northwest mach v review

Falcon Northwest’s Mach V is the grizzled veteran in today’s line-up of boutique, high-end custom PCs. First built in 1993, the system has been a mainstay for over two decades. Thresh, one of the world’s first professional gamers, won a $10,000 Falcon Northwest Mach V at a Doom tournament – in 1997.

Though the Mach V name is old, Falcon Northwest is always quick to update it when new hardware comes around. Our review unit proves that. It has Intel’s new Core i7-6950X ten-core processor – overclocked to 4.3GHz, of course – as well as two GTX 1080 video cards. The hard drive is the PCI Express version of Intel’s 1.2TB 750 Series SSD. And, as icing on the cake, Falcon has supplied 128GB of DDR4 2,400MHz memory.

AMD Ryzen 7 1700X vs Intel Core i7-6800K – early gaming comparison

Three more days until the new Ryzen processors hit the market. This is the time we have to wait to finally get official benchmarks and conduct tests of our own. But until then some new benchmarks get leaked constantly. It was yesterday that we saw both real gameplay and synthetic benchmarks of the flagship 1800X. The other day we saw synthetic benchmarks of all three models.

And today the Chinese sources have leaked actual gameplay and performance in some apps along with synthetic benchmarks of the Ryzen 7 1700X. Of course, all these leaks can’t be fully trusted but they look legitimate.

Hands on: Sony Xperia Ear open-style review

Let’s get real for a moment here, guys. It’s only day three of MWC 2017, and I’m starting to flag a little bit.

And I’m now at the point where I’m so tired that I’m not sure if I should be writing about a piece of metal and plastic that could have the potential to be rather useful for notifications and music on the go.

Sony decided that it needed to try again though, and it’s brought out this concept, which uses the same theory but updates it into a more Blade Runner-like design. dictate messages, let you know what your phone is up to and register nods and shakes of the head as inputs.

I can’t say I needed it explicitly in my life, but it’s a nice idea, and made it to market.

Hands-on : New Gear VR Controller Feels Like the Future

When you’re walking around in a computer generated world, it’s not enough to have just your eyes and your ears, you want to be able to reach out and touch things too. And a clunky, old-fashioned gamepad doesn’t count.

That’s why Samsung created a new controller for use with its Gear VR headset.

The Gear VR Controller (yes, that’s its official name) is a logical next step for Samsung’s mobile VR platform. It draws inspiration from the desktop-based Oculus Rift’s two controllers, borrowing the general shape and size of the Oculus Remote, and adding on features like a larger touchpad and rear-mounted trigger button from the Rift’s Touch Controller.
