Meizu Pro 5 review

1. Introduction

Meizu did such a wonderful job with the MX5 that we were pretty certain a Pro edition wasn’t needed this year. As it turns out Meizu thought otherwise and is giving us a bigger and faster Meizu Pro 5, with refined design, blazing-fast chipset and better camera sensor.

The Pro moniker usually stands for a bigger screen, flagship chipset and greater camera, and the Meizu Pro 5 bumps exactly those features over the MX5. Plus, we get the trending 2.5D screen glass to complete the aluminum unibody, which is very welcome.

Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum Review – Live Wire(less)

Gamers are inherently a bit leery about wireless tech, but given how far it’s come in the last few years, it’s time to give it another look. Take, for example, the Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum headset ($200). This peripheral delivers phenomenal sound for both gaming and music, a robust set of extra features and a number of ways to connect to your favorite devices. It’s a bit more expensive than the $150 G633 Artemis Spectrum, its wired counterpart. However, if you want one fewer wire in your life, it’s definitely worth the premium.

JmGo J1 review: A gorgeous home cinema projector with awesome sound

‘Gorgeous’ and ‘projector’ don’t often sit well together in a sentence, but that’s exactly what you get with the JmGO J1 Smart Home Theater. We’ve never seen a home projectoroozing with so much style – this is something you want to keep on show, not mount out of the way.

But this isn’t just any home projector. Capable of projecting a full-HD picture (upscaled from 720p), the JmGO J1 also supports Active 3D (glasses are not supplied). It’s an Android TV and a Bluetooth speaker, with HDMI, USB and AV inputs that could potentially accommodate a digital TV tuner, a games console, a portable hard drive and more. And it’s entirely silent in use, making it the perfect fit for any bedroom or living room.

UMI eMax Mini review: Much more than just a mini UMI eMax, this budget Android phone has lots to offer

Much more than just a mini UMI eMax, this budget smartphone has lots to offer. We review the UMI eMax Mini.

When we first heard about the UMI eMax mini we were expecting a compact version of UMI’s eMax . While there are similarities in the design, UMI has done much more than slimmed down its earlier phablet.

Nikon Coolpix P610 Digital Camera Review

If someone ever tells you “bigger is always better,” don’t listen to them for another second.

For several years now, camera manufacturers have produced some mindbogglingly large zooms, but very few objectively great cameras. Year after year, there’s always some new camera that has an insane reach, but these long zooms usually come with traadeoffs: poor image quality that gets worse as you zoom in, and a lens that’s a pain to keep steady.

2015 Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner and Toyota LandCruiser Prado review

Ford is invading Toyota’s turf with a go-anywhere SUV but the king off the road is fighting back.

When your popularity is waning, it’s not a great idea to pick a fight with the biggest, most popular kid in the playground.

But that’s exactly what Ford has done. It’s called out Toyota with a series of “challenger” advertisements that highlight “customer advantages” it offers over its rival.

First in the crosshairs was the mid-size bestseller, the Camry. Then it was the biggest selling ute, the HiLux. Now it’s Australia’s favourite large SUV, the Prado.

OnePlus X Review: Great on the Outside, Just OK on the Inside

When OnePlus founder and CEO Carl Pei first showed off the new X in our Manhattan office, I was impressed. Nice glass design, kind of a hybrid iPhone/Xperia look. The textbook definition of “premium.” But it’s really what he said next that got me.

“It’s 250 bucks.” Wait…..what?

That’s the exact reaction the OnePlus X is going for with the new X—a super affordable smartphone that doesn’t look the part. It’s a conundrum because while the OnePlus isn’t a perfect smartphone, its ludicrously low price makes it hard not to recommend if you’re hunting for the very best for the very least.

XFX Radeon R7 240 review: Budget AMD graphics card comes in under £50/$75

We’ve seen some rather impressive pixel-punchers from AMD over the last few months. The new AMD Radeon R7 240 graphics card, though, is about as lowly as it gets – and consequently comes with a bottom of the barrel-grazing £46/$69 price tag.

On the face of it, such a price tag isn’t a great expense. But most of the potential customers of this product will be looking to replace their onboard graphics – which, likely, added next to nothing to the price of the system.

Just5 Blaster 2 review: A strong rival to the best budget smartphones of the year, especially if you need dual-SIM 4G

Latvian brand Just5 is new to PC Advisor, but its Blaster 2 smartphone is pitched to directly compete with two of the best budget smartphones sold in the UK, the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. We review the Just5 Blaster 2.

UK PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

The Blaster 2 comes from Just5, a Latvian brand that sells smartphones direct from its website. Prices are in Euros, and there’s a 12 Euro (around £8.50/$13) shipping charge to the UK, but you’ll still find excellent value in its products.

VTech Kidizoom Smart Watch Plus review – multi-function fun kids smartwatch

VTech’s Kidizoom Smart Watch Plus, recently updated, is a well-made, fun gadget packed with features that should entertain young children, if not educate them or keep them fit like other kids’ toys.
It features both analogue and digital watch faces on its 1.41-inch screen, an alarm, 0.3-megapixel camera, stop watch and timer, voice recording and games.

The design is clean and smart, and the specs are reasonable for something at this price (around £40/$60, but closer to £30/$45 online; see the bottom of this review for the best prices). It’s aimed at children aged 5 to 12 but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few adult hipsters wearing it for fun. Yes, it really is that cool – especially in white – but poses little competition to the more serious smartwatches.

Asus G501JW review: a gaming laptop with a 4K screen made in the mould of the 15-in Macbook Pro – a great combination

If you like the style of Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pro but need a laptop for Windows gaming, the G501JW could be the very machine. It packs an Nvidia GTX 960M for smooth gaming, and an ultra-high resolution 4K display for sharper graphics.

That’s not to say you can combine the two though – the latest notebook graphic processors are fast but not quite capable of playing action games at UHD resolution without struggling.

Toyota Mirai first drive: Hydrogen progress precedes practicality

Depending on where you’re from Mirai means “future” or “miracle”. However, the Toyota Mirai, one of the first production hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, isn’t in the future: it’s available in the here and now. Yet it would be a minor miracle to spot one on the UK’s roads, as only 50 of the cars will make it over to Blighty when they’re available, making it a car as rare as many supercars.

Only the Mirai couldn’t be accused of looking like a supercar. More like Darth Vader after a punch-up, his helmet a bit squished in. It’s very much the Japanese effect; the Mirai’s design has Toyota’s 2015 design aesthetic written all over it, coming across as a not very Euro-friendly looker.

LG V10 Review: Sturdy+Expandable

As we reported yesterday, LG has made its new LG V10 phone official, so all the V10 specs etc.…. are out there. I had the opportunity to play with one, as described in the overview video below, and since I’ve added a great many hours of usage, so here’s my take on what the V10 is good at, and how it compares with other large-display phones currently on the market.

Context: How do I use my phones

It’s important that you understand how I use my handsets, in order to extrapolate how they may fit your own. Although I can only express my opinion through my own lens, I want to give you enough information to expectations that are as realistic as possible.

Tstand Review: what may be iPad Pro’s strange and secret hero

This week we’ve been working with the Tstand, a tablet holder that’ll allow you to use your tablet without cranking your neck or your knees. It’s big. There’s no denying that this stand isn’t going to fit into your standard iPad sleeve – but at W 9.5” x L 10.25” x H 2.25 it’s also not so large that it won’t fit into your 13-inch notebook sleeve. The version we’re working with is made mainly of ABS plastic, with silicone rubber bumpers to hold the tablet in place. This stand may look strange, but it might also be the tablet companion you didn’t know you needed.

Hands-on with HP’s potent ZBook Studio

Does a quad core workstation have to be as bulky as it’s powerful? HP clearly doesn’t believe so, and having spent some time with the new HP ZBook Studio today, I’m inclined to agree. At 18mm thick it classifies as an ultrabook, but HP is courting dissatisfied MacBook Pro users who want the power of a full Intel Core i7 or Xeon processor.

Happily, all that power needn’t mean backache to match. At 4.4-pounds the ZBook Studio won’t exactly go unnoticed in your bag – it’s also fairly wide, courtesy of that full-sized keyboard and 15.6-inch display – but neither does it have the heft of a gaming notebook that might dissuade you from carrying it.

DxO One review: The iPhone add-on camera’s highs and lows

For

Great image quality from the 1-inch sensor (same as Sony RX100 MkIII), it’s a full-on camera you can fit into your pocket, easy Lightning port connectivity, doesn’t drain iPhone battery

Against

Expensive, focus point position sometimes over-ridden, some software bugs/crashes, independent battery (can’t draw from iPhone), iOS only, shutter button position not great with iPhone 6 Plus, fussy to stow Lightning connector

2015 Chrysler 300S Review

The first Chrysler 300 was a near-perfect expression of stereotypical Americana. Big, blunt-nosed, and aggressive, its high shoulder-line and crisp edges were 60s muscle on a modern forecourt; think Felix Leiter and his CIA issue suit in the classic Bond films of the sixties.

It was also outdated, technologically, before it even hit dealerships. Based on what was already a previous-generation Mercedes E-Class platform, while the looks might have been bold and aggressive, the driving dynamics fell far short of the promise.

Tag Heuer Connected: Android Wear gets its luxury tag — First Impressions

Tag Heuer took to the stage in New York today to pull the covers off the Tag Heuer Connected, with Jean-Claude Biver, CEO, saying that it was the “marriage of Watch Valley and Silicon Valley”.

The watch comes as the result of a partnership between Tag Heuer, Intel and Google, and sees a traditional a Swiss Watch company launching its first connected watch. Intel is also working with Fossil, so this is the start of a new trend, pushing Android Wear into places we’ve not yet seen.

But how far removed is this from the likes of the Huawei Watch, LG Watch Urbane or Moto 360? Priced at £1,100/$1,650, it’s a fair distance in price, but what else?

2016 Kia Optima First Drive

Fourteen years ago, Kia was last on J.D. Power’s quality survey; today, it’s second behind Porsche. That’s a big deal, but what does it have to do with the new 2016 Optima?
