2017 Volvo V90 Cross Country First Drive: A wagon America can love

When is a wagon not a wagon? Why, when it’s a Volvo Cross Country, of course. The nameplate has graced several cars since it first appeared – in abbreviated “XC” form – back in 1997, building up no small fanbase along the way. Fast forward to today, and you’re looking at the 2017 V90 Cross Country, the car Volvo is hoping will coax well-heeled outdoors types out of their SUVs and crossovers, and into something altogether more Swedish. Not bad for a metallic brown wagon.

The Cross Country is a big deal for Volvo – and its bottom line: with the V90-based car replacing the old V70 Cross Country, it’s targeting what are traditionally the automaker’s most wealthy customers. I confess, I had my suspicions that Volvo’s Cross Country treatment for the V90 would be largely aesthetic. Wagons, as we know, sell poorly in the US; jacked-up crossovers are far more in favor among modern drivers. The V90 is a great car, and I thought that Volvo’s strategy could have been of the “raise it, clad it, brand it an off-roader” approach.

Best music streaming hi-fi system for £8000/$12000

System building needs careful thought so, whether you’re replacing or making improvements, we thought we’d offer a little advice.

When you’re spending this kind of money on a system, it’s not unreasonable to want it all. Bells, whistles, performance – and then some.

But this end of the market is often the preserve of purist kit, where features are stripped back to concentrate on sonic gains. For some, it’s worth it. For others, it’s restrictive.

That’s part of what makes this system so appealling. Fully equipped to tackle anything from Bluetooth to headphones to high-res audio, it’s an unusually accommodating set-up that works hard to justify its price tag on every level – not just in the sound it makes.

Tommy Hilfiger TH24/7You – First look review

Tommy Hilfiger TH24/7You keeps things simple at a great price

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Tommy Hilfiger TH24/7You

The Tommy Hilfiger TH24/7You completes the range of Movado smartwatches unveiled at Baselworld 2017, and also sets the record for most bizarrely named device in Wareable history.

Movado Group has been fully focused on tailoring its new smartwatches to the identity of its brands, so while the Hugo Boss Touch was all business, the Tommy Hilfiger is significantly more fun – and better priced.

Cheap and cheerful, we’ve been told that the Hilfiger TH24/7You will cost just $299 when it’s launched in August 2017, helping it to undercut several of the biggest names in tech. Stand aside LG and Huawei, Hilfiger just rolled into town.

BlackBerry Aurora Hands-on Review : WE DO NOT EXPECT THIS!

BB Merah Putih, which received the rights to manufacture BlackBerry smartphones in Indonesia, introduced its first smartphone BlackBerry Aurora.

BlackBerry Aurora Review: WE DO NOT EXPECT THIS!

It’s worth saying that the smartphone is designed, assembled and promoted on the territory of Indonesia, but nothing prevents the manufacturer from selling it in other countries. But, nevertheless, only the name remains from the original brand. So BlackBerry Aurora is not some unrealistically cool business smartphone BlackBerry.

By the way, it is the first BlackBerry smartphone with support for two SIM-cards. We hear that Blackberry plans to produce Android smartphone, but we don’t expect BlackBerry Aurora. Let’s see what is it.

Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (2017) Review

Premium 2-in-1 notebooks typically don’t sell at affordable prices, but the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 makes a case for sub-$800 convertibles. Starting (and tested) at $750, this attractive convertible packs a speedy 7th Gen Intel CPU for work, and a comfortable keyboard for getting it all done. Unfortunately, its short battery life and ho-hum display prevent it from being a sure thing, but you do get good performance, design and audio quality for your money

Design

The aluminum Inspiron 13’s brushed-metal lid and deck give a dash of premium class to this midpriced machine. There’s also an eye-catching, shiny bevelled edge that wraps around the lid.

At 3.4 pounds and 0.8 inches thick, the Inspiron 13 isn’t  winning any contests for thinness or weight. The 13-inch HP Spectre x360 (2.85 pounds, 0.54 inches) and the Asus ZenBook Flip UX360CA (3.0 pounds, 0.55 inches) are thinner and lighter. The 15-inch Lenovo Yoga 710 is an expectedly heavier 4.2 pounds, though still thinner at 0.71 inches.

5 Winning Features of the OPPO F3 Plus

OPPO has finally revealed their latest smartphone, the OPPO F3 Plus. It’s the newest member of OPPO’s F-line of smartphones, and like the rest of the family, it’s designed for people who are fond of selfies. But is that all there is to the OPPO F3 Plus? Here are it’s 5 winning features.

1. Premium build

The OPPO F3 Plus doesn’t offer anything groundbreaking in terms of design. As what was mentioned in our review, it resembles its flagship offering, the R9s, which then resembles the former iPhone 6/6s design. Still, it’s a good-looking device. It has an aluminum unibody with rounded edges which, according to OPPO, went through two sand-spraying processes, three polishings, and multiple rounds of CNC milling. In other words, the F3 Plus feels premium and ergonomic. To top it off, literally, is Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 for protection.

2. 16MP main selfie camera + 8MP wide-angle

One of the main features of the F3 Plus is its dual front cameras similar to the Vivo V5 Plus. It sports a main selfie camera with a 16MP 1/3-inch sensor and F2.0 aperture which is good for solo or couple selfies, but if you want to have more people in the photo, users can opt to use the 8MP camera with a 120-degree wide-angle lens. In addition, it even has a smart facial recognition feature that prompts users to switch to the wide-angle camera after detecting more than three faces in the frame, and Beautify 4.0.

3. Solid-state fingerprint reader with hydrophobic membrane

Smartphones with good fingerprint readers are common nowadays, but in the case of the F3 Plus, OPPO added some improvements and equipped its fingerprint reader with a hydrophobic membrane which means it has an enhanced success rate even when a user’s fingers are moist. The feature might be gimmicky to some as we tend to avoid using smartphones with wet hands, but it’s good to have that feature nonetheless.

4. Snapdragon 653 CPU, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage

The OPPO F3 Plus sports one of the newest processors in the Snapdragon 600 tier – the Snapdragon 653. That said, it’s capable of running demanding applications and games. It’s also partnered to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, making it preferred phone for multitaskers and multimedia-heavy users.

5. 4,000mAh battery with VOOC

Granted that this device will be heavily used for photography and gaming, it’s a good thing that OPPO went for a large battery. Not as big as the one found in the ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom but the 4,000mAh capacity will be more than enough for one whole day of heavy use. The VOOC Flash Charge, on the other hand, can quickly recharge the battery while keeping its internals cool.

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/s-vNV-k5MCE”]Picture 10 of 12[/su_youtube]

OPPO F3 Plus specs:
  • 6-inch Full HD IPS LCD display @ 1920 x 1080 pixels
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 5
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 1.9GHz octa-core processor (MSM8976 Pro)
  • Adreno 510 Graphics
  • 4GB LPDDR4 RAM
  • 64GB internal storage
  • expandable via microSD up to 256GB (uses SIM2 slot)
  • 16MP f/2.0 normal + 8MP 120-degree wide-angle front cameras
  • 16MP f/1.7 rear AF camera with Dual-tone LED Flash, Dual PDAF, 4K video support
  • 4G LTE
  • Dual SIM (nano, hybrid)
  • Dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • GPS w/ aGPS
  • Gyroscope
  • OPPO ColorOS 3.0 (Android 6.0 Marshmallow)
  • 4,000mAh Li-Ion battery (non-removable) with VOOC fast charging
  • 163.63 x 80.8 x 7.35mm (dimensions)
  • 185g (weight)

And that sums up the winning features of the OPPO F3 Plus.

Hugo Boss Touch – First look review : effortlessly ups the Android Wear design stakes

The Hugo Boss Touch may sound delightfully straight-laced, and in many ways that perfectly sums up Boss’ new fashion-forward Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch.

Yes, the Hugo Boss Touch smartwatch is a perfect representation of its brand. Smart, professional and classic. Reassuringly well built, yet not designed to rock the boat in any way.

First look: Hugo Boss Touch

Built into the shell of a classic wrist watch, we saw the Hugo Boss Touch in black and silver, with both leather and link bracelets. It’s pretty pleasing on the eye, and it effortlessly carries more design gravitas than, say, the LG Watch Style or Samsung Gear S3.

We’re still waiting for the thickness and dimensions of the Hugo Boss, but there are no problems here in terms of heft. It’s probably too big for really slender wrists, but measures around 12mm deep, putting it in line with the Huawei Watch 2, and significantly slimmer than the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45.

Movado Connect – First look review : Movado’s flagship smartwatch is far from ordinary

The bold Movado Connect is a daring Android Wear watch – Movado’s flagship smartwatch is far from ordinary

The Movado Connect is the flagship device, amid a trio of smartwatches from the watchmaking giant. The fifth largest watch brand in the world, Movado toyed with smartwatches last year with HP and is back at Baselworld 2017 with a fully-fledged Android Wear 2.0 collection, taking its ambitions to the next level.

Chief among these is the Movado Connect, a bold smartwatch effort that looks pretty unique among the tech’d up, traditional looking watches from the likes of Fossil – and even Movado’s own stablemates, the Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger.

Unlike most smartwatches, which proudly make their bezel a feature of the design, the Movado uses edge-to-edge glass. It looks less traditional, and shares more of a design ethic with the Apple Watch and even Misfit Phase than you’d expect from a watchmaker.

The best of Baselworld 2017 : Android Wear, hybrids and unique concepts

Well, what a week that was. Baselworld 2017 brought the smartwatches and hybrid watches en masse, and we’re still reeling from it all if we’re honest

But after the slightly underwhelming MWC, we’re glad it happened. Tag got in just ahead of the show with the Tag Heuer Connected 45 Modular, and it clearly knew that the Swiss army was about to unleash hell. Not only did we see some of the biggest watch makers return for another stab, some other familiar names finally got involved.

The best of Baselworld 2017

There was a lot to take in, so you’re forgiven if you’re still catching up. Hopefully we can help: here’s our roundup of the best Baselworld 2017 had to offer.

The biggest Android Wear show around

With Android Wear 2.0 out the gate, Baselworld was set to be a bit of a Google fest. Sure enough, the Android Wear smartwatches weren’t in short supply, with some particular standouts from big names.

The camera features an improved electronic viewfinder, an 18 megapixel sensor, and a 3inch touch screen.

Panasonic Lumix FZ82 Features

The camera now features a higher resolution electronic viewfinder (EVF), with 1,170K dots, compared to 200K dots on the FZ72. 2017 Yamaha YZF-R6 Review : MO’s first ride aboard Yamaha’s much-anticipated middleweight weapon

Here’s a quick reminder of what was going on in the world in 2006:

  • Dick Cheney, then Vice President of the United States, shot a man in the face.
  • Pluto was demoted from plain ‘ol planet to a dwarf planet.

Yep, 2006 was quite a year, and if you discount the R6’s relatively minor revamp in 2008, Yamaha’s venerable 600cc middleweight has been going strong for more than a decade. Along the way it’s racked up numerous race wins and domestic Supersport championships around the world, capped off with three World Supersport titles, too. Heck, even I won a championship aboard a five-year-old R6 in 2011. When it comes to middleweight sportbikes, if you want to win, the R6 has become the de facto bike of choice. The only other machine I can think of with longer lasting power for its class is the Suzuki SV650.

2017 BMW 530i review

I’ve talked it over with friends and colleagues and most of us agree that this generation of the BMW 5 Series is the best looking car in the model’s recent history, but I just couldn’t fall in love with the looks. It’s handsome enough in profile or when viewed from the rear but something about the front end just doesn’t sit right with me. Others have likened the new 5 Series to a scaled-down 7 Series and I’d agree, but to my eye it looks like Bimmer missed the headlights and grille with its design shrink ray. It’s too upright, too bulbous and out of proportion with the rest of the car.

Styling is, of course, subjective but I think that both the Audi A6 and the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class are simply better looking cars. But what matters is most is which car I’d rather drive and the new 2017 BMW 530i sedan has seen some significant upgrades that make it a strong player in this class.

Sennheiser Momentum In-ear Wireless review

Smartwatches, VR headsets and Bluetooth speakers can all take a back seat, wireless in-ear headphones are the latest must-own tech accessory. With smartphones moving away from classic cabled connections, the need to cut the cords is growing.

That’s where the £169.99 Sennheiser Momentum In-Ear Wireless headphones come in, as the last pair of audio enablers to tick all the right cable-cutting boxes, with Bluetooth 4.1 and aptX abilities making it easier to shun the traditional 3.5mm audio jack.

These are part of a new breed of wireless in-ear headphones, however. Ones untroubled by degraded sound, latency issues and woeful battery life. They’re also a pair of headphones that are entering an increasingly crowded market, with this neckband style design having been adopted by everyone from Bose and Beats to Samsung and LG.

Panasonic DMP-UB400 review

It was only a couple of years ago it seemed 4K Blu-ray discs, and the players to spin them in, were a faraway dream. Ultra HD 4K was just too big a resolution for Blu-ray, they said.

But since then we’ve got a decent collection of 4K discs, a handful of excellent 4K Blu-ray players that can play them – one of which is the Award-winning Panasonic DMP-UB900 – and now we’re starting to see a number of affordable new 4K disc-spinners from the manufacturers.

First amongst them is the Panasonic DMP-UB400, the company’s entry-level machine at just £300/$450. That price may not be considered ‘affordable’ compared to Blu-ray and DVD players, but considering our top two 4K players entered the market upwards of £600/$900, the DMP-UB400 is a potentially great ‘budget’ alternative.

2018 Toyota Sienna Review

The Toyota Sienna has been in its third generation since 2010. While models like the Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica have since been updated and gone through generational shifts, the Sienna has soldiered on with relatively mild updates. In 2017, Toyota did upgrade the 3.5-liter engine and dropped the six-speed automatic for an eight-speed unit, but otherwise, it’s been pretty much the same van all this time outside of some minor changes to the exterior in 2015. Well, Toyota is bringing a revamped Sienna to the 2017 New York Auto Show, but it’s not a new-gen model. Instead, Toyota is adding new “swagger” with a new front fascia, new side skirts, some noise and vibration enhancements, and some additional technology like extra USB ports, an updated rear entertainment system, and a semi-digital instrument cluster.

But, don’t get it twisted. The Sienna may be pretty old, with the 2018 model year being the 8th year this generation is on the market, but it does pull its own weight as far as sales go. Sales have been well over the 100,000 mark from 2011 forward, with 2015 seeing 137,497 examples sold and 2016 accounting for 127,791 examples sold.

Best hybrid smartwatches 2017 : Withings, Mondaine and more

Helping you pick a traditional watch with added smarts

What’s the difference between a smartwatch and a smart analogue watch? They might sound like the same thing, but there’s a way to tell the two apart from each other.

A hybrid smartwatch blurs traditional watch designs with contemporary fitness tracking and notification tech. You won’t see full touchscreen displays like you get on Android Wear watches or the Apple Watch. You certainly won’t have to deal with a couple of days of battery life, that’s for sure. Those smarts are added in a more discreet and elegant way.

Whether you’re style obsessed or want something that’s good at tracking your steps without hammering the battery, here’s our pick of the top smart analogue watches to get around your wrist.

JBL E55BT review

jbl-e55bt-02

Not everyone wants to spend $300 on a premium Bluetooth headphone, which is where products like JBL’s E55BT come in. An over-ear headphone and top-end model in JBL’s “value” E-Series line of wireless headphones, the E55BT is the successor to the E50BT and retails for $150, £100 and AU$230. It comes in multiple color options.

While the E55BT didn’t blow me away with its sound or build quality, it’s a likable headphone that sounds decent, is attractively designed, fits comfortably and has good battery life: 20 hours at moderate volume levels. It also worked nearly flawlessly, with minimal Bluetooth hiccups and easily paired and repaired with the iPhone 6S and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge I used in my testing.

Like the on-ear E45BT, the E55BT has integrated music control buttons on the right ear cup (along with a built-in microphone for making calls) and also comes with a detachable fabric cable with a one-button remote for wired listening. No carrying case is included.

Head-to-head : OPPO F3 Plus VS Vivo V5 Plus

The battle of the big-screen selfie phone has begun!

Tonight OPPO officially announced their F3 Plus smartphone, the plus-sized version of their dual-camera selfie smartphone. It doesn’t take much to figure out that OPPO’s offering is a direct competitor to Vivo’s own V5 Plus, as it too has roughly the same specs and pricing. It’s only fair to put both phones up against each other in this head-to-head because of that. Which Plus-sized selfie phone is better? You be the judge.

Honda HR-V VTi-L v Mazda CX-3 Akari v Mitsubishi ASX XLS v Toyota C-HR Koba comparison

Small crossovers are a vogue segment, drawing buyers up from lower hatchbacks and down from bigger SUVs alike.

Honda HR-V VTi-L v Mazda CX-3 Akari v Mitsubishi ASX XLS v Toyota C-HR Koba comparison

The newest entrant, creating significant buzz, is the Toyota C-HR. Australia’s biggest-selling brand has taken its time joining the fray, but based on our favourable first impression, it has been well worth the wait.

Here we pitch the C-HR against the reigning three top-sellers in the class, the Mazda CX-3, Mitsubishi ASX and Honda HR-V.

In order to show the maximum number of available features across all four vehicles, we have elected to test each model in its highest level of specification, with average pricing of around $33,000 before on-road costs.

Lenovo Ideapad V510 review – so many features, the price can’t handle it

We have another ridiculous Lenovo laptop in our office and we mean ridiculous in all the good ways. However, the V510 seems to be a rare Pokemon and can only be found in some parts of the world. Still, if the V510 happens to be available in your country, then you are in luck, especially if you are looking into affordables.

In some countries, the V510 can be found for just around €500 paired with an SSD, Core i3-7100U, Intel HD Graphics 620 and a Full HD IPS panel. Yes, that’s right, the display’s quality appears to be unmatched given the price point of the product. Moreover, our unit shipped with a 256GB M.2 SATA SSD and a 2.5-inch HDD/SSD bay available for an upgrade. Absurd, right? With the Ideapad 510 and V510 filling in the gaps on the market, the Ideapad 310 doesn’t make sense anymore. The Ideapad 510 will serve as an excellent multimedia station while the V510 can be used for work and entertainment as well while being extra affordable. Let’s see what more the laptop can offer.

Plume Adaptive Wi-Fi System review

The Plume Adaptive Wi-Fi system is a rather original idea to blanket your home with Wi-Fi. Instead of using two or three medium-size pieces of hardware (found in most Wi-Fi systems, like the Eero, the Netgear Orbi or the Google Wifi), you use a bunch of them; basically one for each room.

plumewifi-1

Each hardware unit, called a Plume Pod, is quite small, about the size of, well, a plum. It has a Gigabit Ethernet network port and can be plugged directly into a wall socket, resembling a typical powerline adapter. Each pod alone has a short Wi-Fi range, but there’s no limit to how many pods you can wirelessly chain together to cover an entire home with a Wi-Fi signal. You can get up to six pods in a set for $329, three for $179, or a single pod will run you $69.

BT Vision G5 review

Ultra HD broadcasting may for some time be basking in newness and the promise of more to come, but the concept probably seems more habitual to the guys at BT.

The communications company launched The World’s First 4K Channel (BT Sport Ultra HD) back in 2015, following which came our four-star review of its debut Ultra HD YouView box. And now there’s another – box that is, not channel (we wish).

Content

In fact, BT’s 4K content scene hasn’t blossomed much since, which has to change soon if the company is to remain competitive. After all, Sky now has sport in Ultra HD as well as a movie library.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox First Drive: All turbo, all-new compact SUV improves across the board

Legacy is a powerful thing, and at times it can threaten to smother the equally mighty maxim that moving ever forward is the only way to stay above water in the ultra-competitive automotive industry. Chevrolet, faced with the need to redesign its strong-selling compact SUV – the Equinox – refused to be dragged down by the temptation to simply keep riding a popular horse until it collapsed, foaming and spent, into its grave. Instead, the company realized that the future favors the bold, and elected to invest heavily in a completely new and dramatically different 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.

Keep in mind that Chevrolet has been careful not to adjust the edges of the envelope when it comes to the Equinox’s mission statement, as the previous model’s passenger room and footprint were competitive when compared against contemporaries like the Toyota RAV4 and the Mazda CX-5. Where things felt more than a little old-school? Under the hood, with the SUV of old offering the choice between naturally-aspirated four-cylinder and V6 engines. Cabin furnishings, too, spoke of a time when plain, hard-wearing plastics were the order of the day for budget-conscious families.

2017 Volvo V60 Polestar First Drive: Feeling Blue

It’s a Volvo renaissance right now but, though the XC90 and S90 may be flying off dealers’ lots with their high-tech cabins and minimalistic style, true aficionados know it’s Polestar where the Swedish spirit lies. Whether that spirit is akvavit or high-octane gasoline is questionable – the uncharitable might suggest they both taste the same – but the 2017 Volvo V60 Polestar and S60 Polestar are unmistakable. Peak crazy comes in the shape of a bright blue wagon.

The current S60 and V60 – sedan and wagon, respectively – are on borrowed time. The success of Volvo’s most recent launches, the XC90, S90, and just-arriving V90 Cross Country may be cutting-edge, but the 60 Series dates back to 2010. It’ll be replaced over the next couple of years, first with the XC60 just unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, but that means we’ll have to wait a little longer for an all-new Polestar.
