Intel Core i3-1005G1 vs Core i3-8145U – the Ice Lake one wins thanks to its GPU

It is time for Ice Lake vs Whiskey Lake and this time the smaller CPUs will fight for the heart and wallet of the budget buyer – Core i3-1005G1 and Core i3-8145U will show to us which one is better and why.

Quick Specs

Of course, we have two Core i3’s here so most of the specs will be close, but not all. Bulk prices of both CPUs are equal – $281.00 USD.

Let’s start with the similarities – 2-core / 4-thread CPUs with 4MB cache, and 64GB max memory size. The Ice Lake CPU has lower base and boost frequencies than i3-8145U (1.20 – 3.40 GHz vs 2.10 – 3.90 GHz). Also, the i3-1005G1 has better memory support with DDR4-3200, LPDDR4-3733 compared to DDR4-2400, LPDDR3-2133 for Core i3-8145U.
