EV wins WCOTY for first time as Defender, S-Class, 911 Turbo and Honda e claim minor titles

The Volkswagen ID.4 has become the third electric vehicle to be named World Car of the Year, following the original Nissan LEAF in 2011 and the Jaguar I-PACE in 2019.

Likely to be the first Volkswagen EV to arrive in Australia by 2023, the battery-powered mid-size SUV is relatively affordable and reflects Volkswagen’s decision to lead the greening of European car-makers following the disastrous ‘dieselgate’ scandal that smeared its reputation around the world as an emissions cheat.
