2021 BMW 5 Series Review

The 2021 BMW 5 Series is an exterior and interior refresh of this German-built, class-leading executive sedan. Long noted for its comfort and European-inspired driving dynamics, the 5 Series family offers a range of trims and powertrains, including turbocharged 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines and a range-topping twin-turbo V8. The 2021 5 Series uses the vehicle’s current platform, making no changes to the wheelbase or the width, though the length is up 1.2 inches. At the entry level and on the top end, the 5 Series uses conventional internal combustion engines. In the 530e and the 540i, though, electrification is the order of the day. The 530e is a plug-in hybrid, while the 540i adopts a new 48-volt mild-hybrid electric motor to boost mileage and performance. BMW also offers the choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive on the 5 Series and backs every powertrain with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
