In order to keep things spicy, we have come up with another worthy rival to our gold medalist AMD Ryzen 7 2700 and this is the first addition to the 8th gen Intel Core i9 family which goes under the name Core i9-8950HK.

Starting off with Ryzen 7 2700, the chip is based on AMD’s new 12 nm Zen+ architecture with a total of 4 cores 8 cores and can execute up to 16 threads simultaneously thanks to Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT). Furthermore, it ticks at a base frequency of 3.2 GHz that can go up to 4.1 GHz. The specs sheet is complemented by 16MB of L3 Cache, support for up to a dual-channel DDR4 memory controller, as well as TDP rated at 65 W.

Moving on, the Core i9-8950HK is based on the Coffee Lake architecture with a total of 6 cores. Utilized through a 14 nm manufacturing process, the chip supports the HyperThreading technology that allows it to execute 12 sets of instructions simultaneously. On top of that, Core i9-8950HK is unlocked for overclocking and ticks at base frequencies of up to 2.9 GHz and a 4.8 GHz turbo speed. You are also presented with 12 MB L3 cache, dual-channel DDR4-2666 RAM, and 45 W TDP. When it comes to the integrated GPU, the available Intel UHD Graphics 630 offers clock speeds between 350 MHz and 1200 MHz.

In conclusion, the battle between the two processors appears to be pretty tight as the AMD option performs better as far as 3D rendering is concerned, however, Core i9-8950HK proves to be faster in our Photoshop benchmark test.
