Wellcraft 402 Fisherman Boat Review

Battle ready, this center console is armed to the teeth for fishing and wrapped in luxury for crew comfort and fun.

Wellcraft’s 402 Fisherman, powered by four of Yamaha’s XTO Offshore 425s, topped out at about 63 mph during my February test in South Florida, but the boat has run 65 in some trials. The hull’s response to the helm is crisp, and power steering is smooth and positive, thanks to digital controls and a joystick.

Anglers will appreciate the dual, 28-gallon aquarium-style livewells. They can also haul tuna or big kings aboard through the twin port/starboard dive doors, then slide them into the macerated fish boxes. Wellcraft has an upper station in the works for the 402, and that should be popular among hardcore offshore anglers.
