USB-C (you know, that lone port on the new MacBook) finally fixed the problem of trying to stick in a USB plug the wrong way, but what about the micro-USB connectors that have become the non-proprietary standard for most of our phones, cameras, and other mobile gadgets?
Instead of creating an entirely new standard like they did with USB-C, it turns out one only needed to reengineer the plug itself, like they did with the MicFlip.
