Appropriately, the Frederique Constant Hybrid Manufacture evokes two different feelings. This is a stunning watch with all the hallmarks of the company’s fine craftsmanship on show. The smart aspects, however, are quite limited, though the coaching gives fitness tracking some meaning and offers some added motivation. For lovers of classic watch design who aren’t ready to step into the smartwatch future, this is a perfect way to dip your toe in the water.

As the rise of the smartwatch casts a threatening shadow over the Swiss watch industry, the Frederique Constant Hybrid Manufacture proposes an idea to fight back. This isn’t like the battery-powered hybrid smartwatches we usually review; the Hybrid Manufacture merges a mechanical movement with smartwatch superpowers.
