Enter the pressure washer, a machine to blast away hardened mud, mildew, algae, cobwebs, bug nests, bird droppings, and the greasy film left behind from air pollution. These machines use a gas engine or an electric motor to drive a powerful pump that boosts water pressure from your well or the municipal water supply. And they apply detergent, which they may store in an onboard jug or siphon out of a nearby bucket.
How We Test
If these tests weren’t so hard and filthy, we’d say they were almost fun. In all, we gathered 13 pressure washers and put them to work; six are powered by an electric motor and seven by a gas engine.
