Galaxy Note 5’s so-called “PenGate”: who should be responsible?

Samsung responds to the press on what users should expect when placing their S Pen into its holster on the Galaxy Note 5. Earlier today it became apparent that the fact that you’re able to jam your Galaxy Note 5’s S Pen in to its hole the wrong way – wasn’t going away.

Samsung has responded to the masses by suggesting that users read the instructions that come with the device right out of the box. Detractors have other ideas, saying Samsung should have made this device fool-proof.

Even Samsung’s exec is now teasing the Gear S2

When you have a product that could very well be taken to be a high point in the industry, you might as well flaunt it around, right? That might exactly be the line of reasoning in running in Dennis Miloseski’s mind when he posted on Instagram a snapshot of him wearing the upcoming Samsung Gear S2. Miloseski, being VP of Samsung Design America and head of Samsung Mobile UXCA, is so far the highest ranking Samsung suit to give the public a taste of what’s to come next week at IFA 2015.

ASUS full IFA product lineup details teased

ASUS teases a collection of devices they’ll likely unveil in full at IFA 2015 starting on the 4th of September. One video shows off a set of devices – at least three, by the looks of it – each with classic ASUS industrial design. The first and most obvious of these is the new ASUS ZenWatch. This device will take on a form not all that unlike the first ZenWatch revealed at IFA 2014, just under one year ago, in Berlin, Germany.

Dell Precision M3800 review (2015): solid performance from Dell’s thin and light workstation laptop, with superb build quality but poor battery life

When Dell launched the Precision M3800 laptop in late 2013, it resembled the essential layout of the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display, the 15-inch model with discrete graphics. A lightweight mobile workstation just 19 mm thick.

It added a few twists of its own, of course, including touchscreen control and Windows 8.

Olympus PEN E-P5 Review

SUMMARY

The Olympus E-P5 takes the best of its predecessor, the E-P3, and many features from the acclaimed OM-D E-M5, and adds a few new wrinkles of its own to make it the company’s best PEN-series Micro Four Thirds camera yet. Key new features include 5-axis image stabilization, a 1/8000s top shutter speed, an improved touchscreen LCD and increased ISO range. Overall, this flagship mirrorless model delivers blazing fast autofocus, burst shooting near 10fps and exceptional image quality — even at higher ISOs — that rival the performance of many top enthusiast DSLRs.

Moto G vs iPhone 5C comparison review: Save money or get the iPhone 5S – why the iPhone 5C is a compromise too far

Why compare the Moto G and the iPhone 5C?

In another life I work for other publications such as PC Advisor, Android Advisor andTech Advisor. As a consequence I take a broader view of the smartphone world than do some of my more Apple-focused Macworld colleagues. This means that I can appreciate how far Android had come. The more recent flagship Androids offer a truly premium experience, although arguably not quite to the curated level of iPhone.

Apple iPhone 6 Plus review – plus iPhone 6 Plus camera recall

In September 2014, Apple launched two entirely new smartphones. We’ve taken a look at theiPhone 6 separately, but here’s our review of the iPhone 6 Plus. Plus: How to check whether your iPhone 6 Plus is affected by the camera recall.

DESIGN AND SIZE – LIVING WITH A 5.5IN PHABLET

Compared to the angled and almost industrial design of the iPhone 4 and 5, the iPhone 6 Plus makes something of a return to the original iPhone with curved sides. The screen gently curves at the edges to meet the sides and, even though it’s not much thinner than the iPhone 5, it feels it because it’s so much larger (it measures 78x158x7.1mm).

2016 Lincoln MKX EcoBoost review: Lincoln refines its luxury Edge with the 2016 MKX

THE GOOD

The 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine delivers a blend of power and efficiency. Lincoln’s new Revel Ultima premium audio system boasts great sound quality and staging. A solid offering of driver aid functions, including semi-automatic parking, boosts the 2016 Lincoln MKX’s tech cred.

THE BAD

MyLincoln Touch tech is sluggish and poorly organized. Adaptive cruise doesn’t offer a creep function.

2015 Jeep Renegade review: Jeep Renegade shows chops in the dirt and in the city

THE GOOD

Available offroad gear makes the 2015 Jeep Renegade capable of tackling tough trails, and its Jeep styling clearly calls out its lineage. Even with offroad capability, it handles well on streets, while providing good passenger and cargo room. Built-in app connectivity means easy access to local business information.

THE BAD

The transmission shifts down too slowly for quick passing power. Fuel economy seems a bit low considering the engine size and number of gears.

2015 Ferrari California T review: Twin-turbocharged sophistication

New enough

2008’s Ferrari California was a hard-top convertible with a 453-horsepower V-8 mounted in the traditional place: up front under the hood. Power went to the rear wheels, also traditional, but was directed through Ferrari’s first double-clutch gearbox, a seven-speed capable of changing cogs in milliseconds. Two doors allowed access to four seats — though the two in the back were tight, to say the least.

Apple introduced new MacBook Airs and a completely new MacBook with a Retina display on 9 March. ASUS and Samsung make the fastest-charging smartphones

Your smartphone’s battery life is no doubt very important to you, but its charging time matters, too — just ask anyone who’s had mere minutes to top up a phone before heading out. So who offers the best recharge rates, then? Tom’s Guide might have an answer. It recently conducted a charging speed test to determine which phones will deliver the most energy when you’re in a rush. In short, you’ll probably want to make a beeline toward either ASUS’ Zenfone 2 or Samsung’s Galaxy S6. The Zenfone 2 is the fastest in short bursts, giving you 32 percent power in just 15 minutes. The Galaxy S6 is faster overall, however, hitting 100 percent after 1 hour and 22 minutes.

Mirror your Android device on your Mac or PC with Vysor

There are plenty of ways to mirror your smartphone onto your desktop, but none are as apparently easy (or snappy) as this one. Vysor has been cooked-up by AllCast creator Koush as a seamless way to mirror your Android device’s display onto a Windows, Linux or Mac computer. All you’ll need to do is connect one to the other over USB and install the Chrome plugin and in a few seconds, you should be able to control your phone with a keyboard and mouse. It may have been intended as a developer tool, but one keen-eyed Reddit user spotted the app while it was in private beta and shared it with the world.

Uber tests picking up passengers along specific routes

Uber has a new feature that could save customers some precious, precious dollars.TechCrunch has discovered that the company is testing out what it calls “Smart Routes” for UberPool, wherein cars pick up passengers along a specific corridor instead of going to their homes. If you look at the map below the fold, you’ll see a green line going through a road — a customer who chooses the option will have to hoof it from their homes to a pick-up point along that route. Think of those points as bus stops of sorts. In exchange, Uber will give them a discount worth at least a dollar. The company’s been testing a similar feature called “Suggested Pickup Points” for a while now, but that one still has cars meet customers close to their homes.
