You may have already come across our full review of the Lenovo Ideapad 720s (14″). In essence, the laptop is suitable for multimedia and office work or just getting things done on the go. So if you are in need of a good all-rounder, this article that includes our top 5 advantages and disadvantages of Lenovo Ideapad 720s (14″) might be quite helpful.
4 reasons to buy Lenovo Ideapad 720s (14″)
1. Premium and solid build
We were impressed with the build quality and design of the device which are characteristic of higher-end models. You are presented with anodized aluminum semi-unibody construction that gives a premium feel. In addition, the aluminum lid is quite resistant to bending and torsion, while the single-hinge design offers the needed rigidness. What’s more, the interior is not only stylish but also stable as it’s not susceptible to flexing. As for the input devices, the keyboard and touchpad are comfortable enough for work on the go.
2. Excellent IPS display
We can say without a doubt that the Lenovo Ideapad 720s (14″) boasts an amazing display. The IPS panel offers a pretty good maximum brightness of 329 nits, fairly high contrast ratio – 1200:1, as well as 92% sRGB coverage, making it ideal not only for general browsing and office work but for multimedia as well. What’s more, the panel doesn’t use PWM across all brightness levels so it is safe to use for extended periods of time.
3. Plenty of I/O including Thunderbolt 3
The Lenovo Ideapad 720s (14″) provides a wide variety of ports. On the left, you will find a USB 3.0 port, 3.5 mm audio jack and the DC charging port, while the right side features another USB 3.0 connector, full-sized HDMI, an SD card reader and a USB-C 3.1 (Gen 2) with Thunderbolt 3 support.
The latter is a great finishing touch as it is rarely present in other similarly priced laptops.
4. Good battery life
In terms of battery life, the 55Wh unit scored relatively impressive runtimes. For example, the video playback time surprisingly exceeded the web browsing one, resulting in 523 minutes (8 hours and 43 minutes) on a single charge.
1 reason NOT to buy Lenovo Ideapad 720s (14″)
1. Warm and noisy under load
You will notice that the cooling performance is very noisy (high-pitch) under load, however, if you stick to general work and web browsing, you shouldn’t worry about that. In addition, the GPU ran a little too hot at 75 degrees Celsius during our stress tests.
