Lotus Elise will roll back into the US in 2020

Of all the sports cars that Lotus ever made, my favorites were the late model Elise and Exige models. Those cars disappeared from the US back in 2011 because the cars no longer met US safety regulations and exemptions that Lotus had to continue selling here expired. That means the Elise and Exige were suddenly unavailable for sports car buyers in the US.

Word is that the Elise will be coming back to the US, but it will be half a decade before that happens. Lotus has announced that the Elsie will be coming back to the US in 2020. Part of meeting crash standards for the US likely means that the cars will get heavier.
