After stopping to take a few photos, I briefly broke the rear wheels loose while pulling off a dirt road, which was hardly unusual. What surprised me was that this happened behind the wheel of a Volkswagen. The company has largely steered clear of rear-wheel drive vehicles since it ended production of the emblematic, rear-engined Beetle.
