It was wireless speakers like the B&W Zeppelin and the Naim Mu-so that broke the icy divide between hi-fi and wi-fi, making it acceptable to charge a premium for such devices, and winning over a more traditionalist audience in the process.
They combined great build, excellent sound and superb connectivity, leaving cheaper rivals behind and making their higher price tags make sense.
At £1000, it would be fair to assume the McIntosh RS100 – the company’s first wireless speaker – is attempting the same.
But anyone who is aware of McIntosh will know this £1000 price tag is actually a bargain for a product from its line up. Even its MHP1000 headphones come in at more than double that, making this the cheapest McIntosh product you can buy.
