When the 1More Triple Driver Over-Ear Headphones were delivered to the Unbox HQ, I really didn’t know what to expect. Let’s be honest, it’s not really the top of mind brand when it comes to headphones in the Philippines. Eager to find out how it performs, I immediately connected it to my phone, turned on Spotify and I was completely blown away!
The sound quality of the 1More headphones is amazing. The audio is detailed, dynamic and punchy – perfect for sound tripping or an immersive gaming experience. More on this later.
The Packaging and Contents
Inside the box is a bulky but durable-looking hard case containing the headphones, a 1/4-inch adapter, and a color-coded braided cable so you know which ear cup to plug it in. It has a tiny mesh organizer to keep things neat. There is a smaller box with the manual and a pouch if you don’t feel like bringing the hard case around. What really drew my eyes though was the message in the flap that says, “Dedicated to all the music lovers.” Yes, the packaging looks premium but somehow, that little note gives it heart.
My first thought upon seeing the headphones is, “they look like tiny car tires!” Not that it’s a bad thing. In my opinion, it gives it some personality. It’s well-built with a mix of stainless steel skeletons and plastic in some parts. The leather lining the headband with a silver-colored accent makes it look and feel premium. There is an embossed 1More branding on top, which is subtly and tastefully done.
I personally find the unit comfortable to wear but bigger people may encounter problems because of the headphone’s over-ear design. The cups may rub against the ear and cause some discomfort. I suggest trying it on and checking for the fit before purchasing. The earpads are not replaceable which is a little disappointing since they’re very prone to wear and tear.
The headphones are foldable and the rotating ear cups lay almost flat on the chest when you wear them around your neck, making it great for travel. It is a wired device, which in our opinion, is still the way to go if you’re after high-resolution audio. It also means that you don’t have to worry about charging and battery life.
The Triple Driver Technology and Sound Quality
While a single, dynamic driver is used for most headphones to reproduce a 20Hz-20kHz frequency, the headphones by 1More are equipped with triple driver technology consisting of a titanium driver, a ceramic tweeter and a bass reflector that are hi-res certified. The frequency range is from 20Hz-40kHz which as a fun fact, is beyond what human ears can hear. No wonder the audio sounds incredible.
The highs are clear and crisp, and I particularly enjoyed listening to the violin solo in the classical version of You Raise Me Up. The mids are smooth and distinct. The lows are punchy without the echoes and booms, which is great. I played Bohemian Rhapsody and listened with the device, and the audio was very impressive.
While the headphones are mainly designed to cater to music lovers, I also tested it on podcasts and games. Playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider became an incredibly immersive experience. The low chanting sounded way more mysterious, the village chitchat was so clear, I could tell if the characters were near or far, and the gunshots seemed real. It’s really as if I was transported to Peru in search of the silver box.
Even though the 1More Triple Driver Over-Ear Headphones doesn’t have noise canceling, it does a pretty good job of blocking ambient sounds and preventing music from leaking. That way, the people beside you can’t bother you and you won’t bother them too.
Priced at Php 12,990/$239, the 1More Triple Driver Over-Ear Headphones may not be so light in the pocket but considering its premium look, durable build and most importantly, its amazing audio quality, this device is certainly worth considering for music lovers with discerning ears.
