Samsung’s TabPro S price brings tablet wars to iPad Pro

Samsung’s TabPro S, the sleek Windows 10 slate which the company hopes will claw would-be iPad Pro buyers away from Apple Stores, will be priced at $900, Samsung has announced today. The 12-inch tablet will go up for sale tomorrow, March 18th, in the US, Samsung says, offering up to 10.5 hours of runtime on a single charge.

That’s despite the waifish dimensions. The TabPro S is 693 grams, and comes with a removable keyboard case with a full-sized touchpad, the argument being that it can be both an entertainment device and one for productivity.

Xbox One ‘Dusk’ and ‘Copper’ wireless controllers unveiled

Microsoft has unveiled a couple of new wireless controllers, both with a faded color gradient finish, which is a first among Xbox One wireless controllers. The two controllers are dubbed “Copper Shadow” and “Dusk Shadow,” each hinting at the color of the controller as it fades to black. Colors aside, they come with all the usual Xbox One controller features.

The two-toned look is a welcomed change from some of the other Xbox One controller designs, offering a smooth-as-butter transition from a highly saturated blue and soft copper down into a progressively darker shadow near the bottom. The trim and buttons are solid black on both, while the letter buttons feature the controller’s main color.

OPPO R9, R9 Plus debut with 16MP front cameras

OPPO has finally unveiled its latest twin flagships and, to some extent, it might be too easy to pass them off as your typical budget, mid-range iPhone knock off. Indeed, OPPO’s chosen design isn’t doing it any favors. But despite actually being mid-range devices, with not so budget-friendly prices and an iPhone-esque facade, the OPPO R9 and R9 Plus do try to offer some level of uniqueness and flair. That’s mostly seen in the 16 megapixel front-facing cameras that are unabashedly aimed at the selfie-loving crowd.

Windows 10 Preview : superpowered Maps, Japanese input support

This Friday, Microsoft is bringing its Windows game on. Rolling out Windows 10Mobile for existing Lumia handsets and heralding the arrival of Microsoft Edge web browser extensions, Microsoft is pretty much trying to paint the picture of a company that listens well to user feedback. Perhaps nowhere is that more evident, according to the company, than in the updated Maps app, both for PCs and mobile, that adds new features and a slightly revamped interface, most of them based on users’ input.

Olympus PEN E-PL8 leaks with yet another odd grip

It has been more than a year since Olympus announced the E-PL7, and entry level, beginner friendly digital camera that was aimed at that oh so special selfie-loving market. It seems that the camera maker has a follow up ready, if the leak of these photos are any indication. The images don’t really divulge much in terms of features, but if that rather strange grip at the side is any indication, the camera will once again be marketed for those who love holding their cameras towards their faces.

Philips 276E Review – Perfect colors at a near-perfect price

Modern LCD monitors can look really beautiful. You might think that yours is perfect, with all the right colors showing just as brightly as any other. However, it only takes one glance at a better panel for you to realize that you’ve actually been staring at muted, washed-out colors. Well Philips believes that they have the solution for making the perfect monitor, in the form of quantum dots.

Their latest monitor, the 276E, is what they’re describing as the world’s first quantum dot monitor. I’ve been testing one out for a little while, and today it’s time to share my thoughts. However before we dive into the review, there’s a question that needs answered. What are quantum dots?

Ricoh Theta S Camera Review : 360-Degree Freedom, So-So Quality

Panoramas? Pfft. These days, all of the cool kids are taking 360-degree photos and videos that allow you to look up, down, left and right, whether it’s on your phone or in a virtual-reality headset like theSamsung Gear VR or Google Cardboard. Cameras like the Ricoh Theta S put you right in the middle of the action, allowing you to pan around both still images and video as though you were really there. Well, almost: Although the Theta S makes it very simple to take 360-degree photos and video, there are still a few issues that limit the appeal and complicate the process.

We tested the Ricoh Theta S by using it in a few interesting places, including on a drone and attached to an overly excited dog, and came away only mildly were impressed.

How to Get the Full Layout in Windows 10’s Touch Keyboard

Microsoft designed the on-screen keyboard in Windows 10 with tablet users in mind. The large keys are easy to tap, autocorrect and text suggestion are built in and there’s an emoji button. However, the default keyboard is missing special keys, such as function keys and a number row. If you prefer a full keyboard layout or just need to use it once in a while, here’s how to access it.

To switch to the full keyboard layout, you have to turn the option on in Settings.

First look review : Samsung’s Creative Lab has cooked up headphones that let you ‘feel’ VR

With the Gear VR on sale since the end of 2015, Samsung has turned its attention to apps and accessories. At MWC we saw some prototype motion controllers and here at SXSW, it looks like Samsung wants to take it even further with Entrim 4D.

Samsung’s Creative Lab, or C-Lab, is showing off what appears to be a pretty average looking pair of headphones at the Austin festival.

Toshiba Tecra A40 Review

Though most of today’s business laptops no longer have optical drives, the 14-inch Toshiba Tecra A40 proudly sports a DVD burner, which is essential for companies that still keep their data on discs. In an era in which most devices have HDMI or DisplayPort only, this enterprise-friendly laptop also includes a VGA port, for backward compatibility with older projectors and monitors. The Tecra A40 isn’t all about old technology, as it squeezes in modern amenities such as a speedy Intel 6th Generation Core i5 CPU with vPro manageability, 8GB of RAM and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. However, to get the A40’s solid legacy support, you’ll have to settle for a dull screen and mediocre battery life.

LG 55EG9100 TV Review: Amazing OLED Picture, Saner Price

After years of sputtering progress and stratospheric prices, OLED TV sets seem to be coming into their own this year. LG is betting on making the devices more popular with models like the 55-inch 55EG9100, a set that’s just under the $2,000 mark. The TV offers a truly excellent HD picture and all the usual smart-TV amenities. However, with higher-resolution 4K TVs making a big push this year and high-dynamic-range (HDR) formats available, some buyers may hesitate to pay two grand for a 1080p HDTV.

2015 – 2016 BMW G 650 GS review

Fun. That’s a word I keep hearing over and over again when folks talk about the G 650 GS from BMW . Made-over in 2010 for the 2011 MY, this member of BMW’s 2016 adventure stable is at home on back roads and easy off-road terrain. This single-cylinder enduro ride has a gutsy little engine and suspension to match whether you’re on-road or tearing up the dirt.

Here Active Listening earbuds review

As a standalone device, Here could make two different sets of people very happy – music nerds and anyone particularly sensitive of ear. In both respects, it’s a winner. There’s a lot more potential here for this niche but awesome hearable and I’m sure Doppler Labs knows it. That includes getting this technology into earphones that can also act as traditional earphones. Audio has a big part to play in augmented reality and Here proves that you can enhance and shift your experience of the world without manipulating your vision. The fact that this experience is available in a sleek, affordable device that actually works is all the more impressive. Well, we say ‘available’ – you’ll need to join the waiting list for a pair.

Dali Kubik Free review

For a company that has built up its reputation in stereo speakers and speaker packages, the announcement of Dali’s Kubik Free active wireless speaker has signalled a move into new territory for the brand.

Like many premium wireless speakers, particularly those from traditional hi-fi manufacturers, Dali hasn’t concerned itself with the more affordable end of the market.

Even after two years, the Kubik Free still holds its price at £650/$975 – a true reflection of the quality that this compact speaker is capable of.

Sophos Antivirus for Mac Home Edition Review

[UPDATE: Sophos has informed us that as of December 2015, Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition is no longer offered. It’s been replaced by a new free product, Sophos Home. We’ll have a review of Sophos Home ready soon.]

Apple’s OS X was until recently touted as a platform that was immune from malware. Over the past few years, though, a rising tide of Mac malware has changed minds and taken away the sense of security. Those looking for a simple and free solution may be tempted by the free Sophos Antivirus for Mac Home Edition, which is the follow-up to our Best AV Software for Mac in 2014. Unfortunately, Sophos hasn’t done enough to stay atop the Mac antivirus mountain.

Trndlabs Skeye Nano Drone Review

Tiny drones are in fashion now, and the Trndlabs Skeye Nano Drone with Camera (Nano, for short) brings something new to the mix: It costs less than $70 and can record video to a microSD card. And it is definitely tiny, weighing just 0.5 ounces and measuring 2.5 inches from rotor blade tip to tip. However, like most miniature drones, it’s somewhat awkward to fly, and the video quality isn’t great.

Fossil Q Motion first look review : A sleek and discreet fashion fitness tracker

Fossil is showing off a new wearable device at SXSW this year, and this time it’s a fitness tracker called the Fossil Q Motion.

Looking extremely similar to the Misfit Ray (which Fossil also now owns thanks to last year’s buyout) the $95 Q Motion tracks steps, sleep and all the usual metrics. There’s no screen, and the design is fairly minimal, but the features are very Misfit-esque too.

iBuyPower Revolt 2 Review: Mini Gaming Monster

Call it an alien artifact. Call it the world’s sexiest toaster. Either way, the iBuyPower Revolt 2 ($899 starting, $1,400 as reviewed) is one of the most uniquely stunning gaming desktops I’ve ever used, to the point that just about everyone in the Tom’s Guide testing lab stopped by to drool over it.

The Revolt 2 is more than just a pretty piece of tech, however, with a space-saving design and instant-access storage bays that are built for the competitive gamer. Couple that with an Intel Core i7 processor, a GTX 970 graphics card and some useful packed-in peripherals, and you’ve got a package that can back up its showstopping design with equally strong gaming performance.
