Remember the Kia Borrego, the homely, body-on-frame, three-row SUV that launched for 2009 and into a recession, soaring fuel prices, and a market shift to car-based crossovers? That ill-fated SUV met its demise after only 22,663 were sold. It remains a textbook example of poor timing and bad luck. Fast forward a decade to a stronger economy, lower fuel prices, and a thriving market for larger vehicles, and the new-for-2020 Kia Telluride will erase the Borrego’s failure faster than you can say “crossover apocalypse.”
