Intel Core i9-8950HK vs Intel Core i7-7820HK – benchmarks and performance comparison

Intel Core i9-8950HK vs Intel Core i7-7920HQ – benchmarks and performance comparison

Posted on April 14, 2018November 27, 2018 By Jarvis

Intel has just announced its first 8th gen Core i9 mobile processor – the Core i9-8950HK. After we compared it to some top-notch processors – the AMD Ryzen 7 1700, as well as Intel Core i7-7820HK, it is time to continue the tradition with yet another worthy competitor – the Intel Core i7-7920HQ.

Specs overview

What’s more, the 14nm processor supports the HyperThreading technology which enables the processor to execute 12 sets of instructions at the same time. Being unlocked for overclocking, the new Core i9-8950HK reaches base frequencies of up to 2.9 GHz and a 4.8 GHz turbo speed. In addition, the processor incorporates the Intel UHD Graphics 630 graphics chip.

Moving on, its rival – the high-end Intel Core i7-7920HQ is part of Intel’s Kaby Lake generation. Manufactured through a 14 nm process, it features 4 cores and 8 threads. The processor runs at a high operating frequency of 3.1 – 4.1 GHz (when four cores are active the Turbo Boost frequency decreases to 3.7 GHz or 3.9 GHz for two active cores). Other noteworthy specifications include Hyper-Threading, 8MB L3 cache (256KB L1 and 1024KB L2 cache), a dual-channel DDR4-2400 or DDR3L-2133/1600 memory controller and a TDP of 45W including the integrated GPU which is the Intel HD Graphics 630 once again.

You can check out the full specs of the Intel Core i9-8950HK and the Intel Core i7-7920HQ.
