Serious Sam 4 is the latest in a long line of retro shooters to receive the reboot treatment. But can it meet the high standards set by Doom and Shadow Warrior before it?

Serious Sam 4 is the latest entry in an iconic first-person shooter franchise that was all the rage in the early 2000s. It is a game fans of the franchise have been awaiting for close to a decade, with the last “true” entry having launched all the way back in 2009.

It aims to pull the same trick as Doom and Shadow Warrior before it, bringing a classic franchise back from the grave. While it has similar aspirations to Doom and Shadow Warrior, Serious Sam 4 is not a reboot.
