French car-maker will finally go head-to-head with Golf R, with all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid powertrain

Peugeot will finally launch a credible rival for the Volkswagen Golf R, according to a new report that claims work is well under way on the first Peugeot 308 R.

According to Autocar, the new white-hot hatch is currently being developed by the French car-maker’s newly-formed performance division, Peugeot Sport Engineering (PSE), and is set to arrive along with the third-generation Peugeot 308 hatch towards the end of 2021.
