If you want the best seven-seat car around, then you’ve come to the right place. These are the models that have also gained our maximum five-star rating

It’s not every day that we give out our highest road test rating of five stars. Cars that achieve this accolade are among the very best in their class, judged to be outstanding in almost every area.

Five-star cars with seven seats

If you’re buying a five-star car, then rest assured that you’re getting one of the finest models on sale today. And if you’ve got a growing family, then chances are that you’ll also be looking for seven seats and enough space to take all your luggage with you.

Well, you’re in luck, because below are the six cars that not only received our full five-star rating but also come with seven seats. And they’re all available to buy in our new car buyer marketplace too.

Audi Q7

The Q7 is a spacious and capable large SUV, but it also offers a luxurious interior. In fact, we named it our Luxury SUV of the Year at the most recent What Car? Awards, where it beat more expensive options such as the Range Rover. Our favourite Q7 combines a smooth 3.0-litre diesel engine with the entry-level SE specification, which still gets you satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control and Bluetooth connectivity.

Our pick: 3.0 TDI 272 Quattro SE Tip Auto

Land Rover Discovery

The latest Land Rover Discovery is a real triumph. It’s spacious and comfortable inside, and pretty much nothing else on this list can match its off-road prowess. It’s not ideally suited to the city and steering it around tight streets requires a fair bit of arm work, but it is supremely comfortable and the engines are quiet. We’d match the TD6 diesel engine with mid-range HSE specifcation.

Our pick: 3.0 TD6 HSE

Skoda Kodiaq

The Skoda Kodiaq won our Large SUV of the Year title at the 2017 What Car? Awards, where it saw off competition from the five-seat Mazda CX-5 and the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The Kodiaq might be Skoda’s first attempt at a large SUV but, thanks to its classy and spacious interior and smooth diesel engines, plus Skoda’s trademark value for money, it’s a clear winner. We’d normally recommend opting for an SE model, but SE-L specification gets you seven seats and sat-nav as standard.

Our pick: 2.0 TDI 150 SE-L

VW Touran

We named the Volkswagen Touran our favourite MPV of 2017 at the most recent What Car? Awards. We love its flexible, practical interior, its strong engine range and the plethora of PCP finance deals that are available. And while the MPV market as a whole is shrinking, the Touran still makes a good case for itself, mainly thanks to its pleasant driving style.

Our pick: 1.6 TDI 115 SE
