2. CHEVY EQUINOX
The Chevy Equinox is a compact SUV that scores fairly high on the Kogod auto index for being “Made in America” at an 82.5 out of 100. The SUV loses 17.5 points on the index by using parts that are sourced from abroad in the SUV chassis, body, and electrical side of the vehicle. 100% of the remaining components in the automobile are made in the United States in the vehicle, and it was assessed as a tie with four other automobiles for the third most American made car on the market this year. There are two engines offered for the Equinox. The first is a more fuel efficient, 182 horse power, 2.4 liter four cylinder, and the second is a 301 horsepower, 3.6 liter six cylinder engine. The Equinox offers a 4G LTE connection with a built-in WiFi hotspot in addition to forward collision alert system and a rear park assist feature that were not featured on legacy models of the auto.
3. CADILLAC ATS
The Cadillac ATS is manufactured by GM, and is tied for being the third most American made car on the market based on the Kogod auto index. Scoring an 82.5, the ATS gets about one third of the electrical components, body, and chassis from outside of the United States. The remainder of the car and the corporate headquarters are all 100% from the U.S.A., which has consistently landed the automobile in the top of the index since it started being manufactured. These include the base model, 28 horsepower V-6, the turbo-charged, 240 horsepower, four cylinder engine, and the 365 horsepower turbo, V-6. 5. FORD EXPEDITION
The Ford Expedition is another SUV produced by the Ford Motor Corporation that ranks high on the Kogod index. Although the Expedition gets about one third of tis chassis components and its vehicle body from overseas, it does max out the score in the areas of engine production, labor, assembly, and research and development for an overall score of 82.5. Not only does the Expedition feature a new front and rear design, but the 3.5 liter, EcoBoost V-6 is a much more powerful engine that past model years of the vehicle featured. The new engine sees a 55 horsepower improvement over the legacy V-8 at 365 horsepower. The new Expedition is capable of traveling from zero to 60 MPH in just 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 113 MPH.
6. FORD EXPLORER
The Ford Explorer is another model of auto produced by the Ford Motor Corporation that ranks high on the Kogod index for being the most American made vehicles on the market. The Explorer comes in tied for third place with a score of 82.5. The SUV does lose points on the index from having body parts and the interior being produced from outside of the United States. The company has continued to update the vehicle over time, and it includes front-wheel drive as a standard option with all-wheel drive available for those who demand greater control of their automobile. The SUV features a 280 horsepower turbo four or a 365 horsepower, turbo six cylinder engine. The Explorer is capable of going from zero to 60 in just 5.9 seconds and it has a maximum speed of 122 MPH.
7. GMC CANYON
The GMC Canyon comes in with a tie when compared to the GMC Savana with regards to being one of the most American made cars on the market. The auto scored an overall 83 on the Kogod index and is the first of a number of GMC entries in the top 10 of most American made cars this year. The auto features a 4.8 liter, eight cylinder engine that is rated at 285 bhp and is capable of hauling up to 12 passengers in the van.
9. CHEVY EXPRESS
The Chevrolet Express is another of the higher scoring automobiles on the most American made car index by Kogod coming in at an 83. The manufacturer imports the auto’s transmission; however, since most of the auto body and chassis parts are made in the United States, the overall score of the vehicle ranks higher than other autos on the index. Chevy gives consumers a choice with the Express in a number of the features of the van to include the payload capacity, wheelbase, and an optional towing package for those who need that capability. There are a number of engine options for the vehicle to include a six cylinder engine, several V-8’s, and a turbo-diesel. The company also gives consumers the choice of either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive for the auto as well.
10. CHEVROLET COLORADO
The Chevrolet Colorado ranks high on the American made car index (scoring an 83) since it sports a large amount of the car production process as being made in the United States. From research and development to engine production, the majority of the pickup truck is attributed to being American made. The truck loses points from various electrical components and the body of the vehicle being outsourced internationally. The Colorado underwent a full redesign in 2015 and is larger than the legacy version of the auto from several years ago. 11. CHEVROLET TRAVERSE
The Chevrolet Traverse is a midsize SUV that is one of the most American made cars on the market. The auto scores a whopping 87.5 on the Kogod auto index, and is one of the most reliable vehicles on the market. The Traverse loses points on the index due to several components of its chassis, electrical, and interior being made outside of the United States. The Traverse also features one of the more spacious cabins of the American SUVs on the market, and it is powered by a six cylinder engine topping out at 281 horsepower. The SUV can fit up to eight passengers, and comes with front wheel and four wheel drive to help best fit the customer’s needs.
12. CADILLAC CTS
Although the Cadillac CTS Coupe was discontinued in 2014, the auto still ties for first in the Kogod Index as the most American made car on the market today. The vehicle continues to be extremely popular on the preowned car market, and only has points removed for a number of the electrical and interior components being produced overseas. The CTS overall score on the Kogod index comes in at an 87.5 out of a possible 100. The CTS gives consumers a choice of three different engines. The company offers a 2.0 liter, turbo four cylinder, a 3.6 liter six cylinder, and a twin-turbo 3.6 liter six cylinder engine. Rear-wheel drive comes standard on the auto with all-wheel drive available as n option for consumers. The auto can go from zero to 60 in six seconds and has a top speed of 144 MPH.
13. GMC ACADIA
The GMC Acadia SUV scores higher on the Kogod Made in America index than the vaunted Ford F-150 with an 87.5 score on the index. This ties the vehicle for the highest score on the index with four other car / truck models. GMC imports various chassis components, portions of the interior, various electrical parts, and 25% of the vehicle body, but it still scores high enough to maintain the auto’s high ranking. The Arcadia can comfortably seat seven to eight people in addition to being rated to haul a tow of up to 5,200 lbs. The auto comes with a standard 3.6 liter, six cylinder engine pulling 288 horsepower with front-wheel drive as the standard option on the auto. All-wheel drive is available for consumers who require greater control of their auto.
14. BUICK ENCLAVE
Large Buick’s have been the symbol of Americana for a number of decades. The Buick Enclave carries on this tradition but in SUV form by tying for the top spot in the most American made cars on the market today. The vehicle comes in tied for first on the Kogod index with an 87.5 score. The vehicle loses points by a number of the components in the vehicle chassis and body being imported from abroad. The Enclave is powered by a 3.6 liter, six cylinder engine rated at 281 horsepower. Consumers can choose from front of all-wheel drive and the company offers a large number of options when purchasing the automobile new. The auto includes a six-speed automatic transmission, and it can comfortably seat up to seven passengers.
15. CHEVROLET CORVETTE
The Chevrolet Corvette has the distinction as being the most American made sports car on the market today. The sports car scores 10 points higher than the Ford Mustang on the Kogod American-Made Index with an 87.5 score, and it only loses points due to foreign made parts in the chassis, car body, and various interior components. The Corvette Stingray model features an eight cylinder, 6.2 liter engine that pulls 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet also now lets consumers pick between a standard seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, consumers can get the Corvette Stingray as a convertible which is also fairly fuel efficient for a muscle car at 29 MPG (highway).
