The anticipation finally reached an end when Xiaomi Mi Note 2 officially released, this afternoon. It looks like the rumors were true to some extent as Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is indeed the best of Xiaomi along Xiaomi Mi MIX and perhaps the world’s most elegant phone till date.
Xiaomi Mi Note 2 – The Unboxing
Concerning the packaging, we witness the new trend with the box. Instead of mimicking Apple’s iPhone box, Xiaomi came up with their idea which seems to be perfection. Xiaomi has decided to walk with simplicity and elegance as the package appears to be plain white with an engraved Mi Logo at the center. We observe no diagram of Xiaomi Mi Note 2 at all.
The sides appear to be traditional with the name of the terminal illustrated. Meanwhile, the rear reveals the model name with the highlighted features of the flagship.
Opening the lid, we find Xiaomi Mi Note 2 embedded in the box perfectly. We bet the first impression will be worth of praising.
Removing it reveals the accessories which are:
- User manual
- Back Cover (Plastic)
- USB cable
It looks like Xiaomi is getting generous regarding the accessories with time. Still, we can’t expect earphones, or should we?
Xiaomi Mi Note 2 – The Preview
To be honest with you guys, we haven’t seen anything like Xiaomi Mi Note 2. Seriously, we aren’t pulling your leg. Xiaomi seems to rock in the high-tier category by making Mi Note 2 the company’s first terminal to feature dual curved screen, along with 3D glass at each side.
The rest of the design seems to be perfectly symmetrical. Xiaomi’s new flagship forged from Aerospace grade 7 Aluminum series like iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 and the back molds from curved glass for a premium grip.
It’s hard to determine the exact color of Mi Note 2 as it’s a blend of black and silver metallic color and a blue color feeling when it glitters.
On the top front, the earpiece, a small LED notification light and the front camera are situated. As we said Xiaomi is keeping Mi Note 2 simple; here it is justified. Still, we think the position of earpiece and front shooter is a little bit disturb to more top. Still, it looks gorgeous.
The latest ultrasonic fingerprint technology is trending, and Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is the one to feature in it’s glassed home button.
Speaking of the buttons, the volume bar, and the lock button’s pattern is changed, they are shaped as trapezium and more embedded with a premium press experience.
The rear resembles Mi 5 when it comes to the 3D curved design. Still, we get to see a shift in the rear camera layout. The back camera along with LED is situated at the top center which further intensifies Xiaomi Mi Note 2 charm.
At the top, we see the regular arrangement of 3.5mm audio jack, microphone, and IR blaster. Thank God the jack, and IR hasn’t omitted.
Meanwhile, the heat efficient holed design and the USB Type-C is all that we observe at the bottom.
The edges along with the bezels are brilliantly curved and appear to be errorless. Those remind us of Meizu Pro 6.
The screen accounts up to 77.2% of the body ratio. The physical dimensions measures at 156.2 * 77.3 * 7.6mm and weighs only 166 g; a slim & featherweight terminal is all that we need.
Heading towards the display panel, Note 2 features the best display in the Mi and Redmi Line up. The flagship uses a massive, 5.7 inches 1080p OLED display from LG. The contrast and the brightness of the colors are appreciatable.
The vivid contrast and the full brightness of the colors are breathtaking (110% NTSC color gamut and 100,000:1 contrast ratio). Under sunlight, the screen brightness never disappoints. No change in the display can be seen from the side view of the screen. What more can you expect from OLED technology? It looks like Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has found a fierce competitor and we aren’t referring to the battery explosion competition. When will Xiaomi introduce the 2K display in its smartphone is still in question?
What’s under the hood is the latest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 quad core process running @2.35GHz as the heart of the flagship. After this, the terminal goes on separate paths with the two variants with built-in 4 / 6GB memory and 64 / 128GB UFS 2.0 flash memory.
For the readers who were expecting a dual camera shouldn’t disappoint. Even though there’s no dual camera still what’s there is totally worthy and better than the dual lens concept. It’s a 22.56 MP rear camera (Sony IMX 318, F2.0 aperture, support EIS triaxial video image stabilization).
Xiaomi Mi Note 2 has a battery capacity of 4070mAh, up to 18W fast charge even shown on the charger. It runs on Android 6.0 with MIUI 8 as the UI. Let’s hope we’ll see Android 7.0 update soon on Xiaomi terminals.
Networking is one of the highlighted features of Xiaomi Mi Note 2. The product is not only capable of sporting dual SIM and dual standby but also features six modes and 37 frequencies sport for 600Mbps 4G Network, allowing it to be the phone with the most running networks on the planet.
Let’s conclude the preview with the prices. The three variants are priced and named as:
- Standard Edition (4 + 64GB) at 2799 yuan ($413)
