Customers want to see a long-lasting battery on board the Galaxy Note 9 more than any other feature, including an in-screen fingerprint reader and 3D camera, according to data extracted from a poll Trusted Reviews ran in partnership with interactive media distributor Apester last month.

The data revealed that more than 70% (72.8%, to be precise) of votes were in favour of seeing a long-lasting cell on Samsung’s next Galaxy Note series smartphone, while a mere 14.6% were for an in-screen fingerprint sensor. The remaining 13.6% of votes were almost evenly split between a flexible screen and a 3D camera.

Feature Votes
In-Screen Fingerprint Reader 784
Long-Lasting Battery 3863
3D Camera 376
Flexible Screen 354

It seems that most customers are going to have their way as the latest leaks indicate that the Galaxy Note 9 will come with the largest battery Samsung’s ever bundled on a Note handset, with reliable tipster Ice Universe claiming it will ship with a 4000mAh cell – superseding the 3300mAh power pack found the Galaxy Note 8.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the second tier of voters are in luck. Korean outlet The Bell recently learned that Samsung informed manufacturing partners that the Galaxy Note 9 will be equipped with an almost-centre-mounted rear-facing fingerprint sensor, like the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, instead of the in-screen alternative.

The reason behind the decision remains unclear, though some rumour-spinners have speculated that Samsung was forced to shelve the tech amid sub-par performance during internal testing procedures. It’s still thought to be developing it, however, with a view to bundling it on the Galaxy S10 when it launches sometime in 2019.

It’s bad news for the small subset who were hoping to see either a flexible screen or a 3D camera on the Galaxy Note 9 as neither seem likely; Samsung is rumoured to be reserving its foldable screen for the elusive Galaxy X, and it’s all but confirmed to be bundling a non-3D ISOCELL Plus sensor on its next Galaxy Note smartphone.

Poll aside, the Galaxy Note 9 is expected to ship with an Exynos 9810/Snapdragon 845 CPU, at least 6GB of RAM and an improved dual-camera that’s mounted vertically rather than horizontally. It’s also believed to bundle an all-new S Pen that can double as a remote trigger for controlling music playback and taking pictures from afar.
