How much can a smartphone cost? Most of you will say it depends on the category it belongs to and the features it comes with. Of course, the brand is important as well. There is a grain of truth, but we are talking about more or less popular brands. In this sense, LEAGOO, a Chinese smartphone maker has been always known for the cheapest offers. This company never rebounds and always designs smartphones with trendy features. So, we can recall the LEAGOO T5packed with a number of high-end features and available for a low price tag, the LEAGOO M8 Pro, which sports a dual-camera and costs only $80, the LEAGOO M8, one of the best budget-friendly devices available in the market, the LEAGOO M5 Plus, the best ultra-budget phablet, the LEAGOO T1 Plus supporting 4G connectivity and so on. Actually, this list is very long. And every LEAGOO phone can be considered the cheapest version in this or that niche.

Recently, the company came in with a new line of smartphones named KIICAA. Thus the manufacturer wants us to think about it as the main product line like the Galaxy for Samsung, Xperia for Sony, Mi for Xiaomi, etc. We have already talked about a couple of models from this amazing family in face of the LEAGOO KIICAA S8 and LEAGOO KIICAA MIX. As the names suggest, the former one has been made as the Samsung Galaxy S8 alternative, while the latter can replace the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2. But what’s amazing they cost around $100. As for now, we are going to review another interesting device from this line dubbed as the LEAGOO KIICAA Power. ‘Power’-named smartphones usually refer to the large-capacity battery phones. This model is no exception. So we can say the LEAGOO KIICAA Power can be a budget-friendly alternative to the Xiaomi Mi Max 2.

Appearance

Actually, the LEAGOO KIICAA Power is promoted as a dual-camera smartphone that also comes with a 4000mAh battery.

This means the device should be a bit bulkier to carry a battery with the aforementioned capacity. But you will be surprised to see what a great appearance it comes with. We can’t say it’s a thin smartphone, but its dimensions prove the KIICAA Power should be a great phone in terms of ergonomics. The device comes with dimensions of 14.30 x 7.20 x 0.90 cm and weighs 156 grams. Thus it’s a mid-heavyweight. Generally, we are satisfied with the look and size, if taking into account we are dealing with an ultra-budget 5-inch smartphone.

As for the display, it is at the gold size for one hand operations. Thus no need to customize the UI for it or make any changes on the front of the phone. However, the display occupies only 66% of the front panel that means it doesn’t sport one of the latest and trendy features, the full-screen. So all those who want to compare it with the full-screen devices such as the Blackview S8 and humiliate it, do not waste your time. This phone has been designed with other purposes in mind.

Well, this display only provides a resolution of 720P, which is a standard for smartphones from this niche. The pixel density is 400ppi, while the contrast ratio is 900:1. But this is an official information, while some sources mention the pixel density is only 294ppi, which is more trustworthy. We also have to add the screen is covered with a Dragontrail glass to protect it from scratches. It also has a viewing angle of 178 degrees.

There are no physical buttons on the front. But the traditional Android keys are placed below the screen on the black area. So no one can complain saying they occupy some are on the display. By the way, the LEAGOO KIICAA Power runs on the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, Android 7.0 Nougat (Leagoo OS 3.0 Lite).

At last, there is a 5MP camera on the upper side accompanied with the speaker and the regular set of sensors. The front shooter comes with a 77.9 degrees viewing angle and 3P lens. So more area it can capture in a single photo.

The back is made of plastic. It’s been expected. But the design elements it comes with are quite surprising. Actually, the LEAGOO KIICAA Power doesn’t look identical to other dual-camera smartphones. It comes with its own design.

Two camera modules are located on the upper left corner. When taking a closer look at them we can see one of them comes with the larger sensor, while the second one is a bit smaller. That’s it. The LEAGOO KIICAA Power uses two camera sensors at 5MP and 8MP. However, the aperture is larger than expected, f/2.2. This means the KIICAA Power can provide the bokeh effect, but it will fail in many situations. However, there is also a dual-flash for better shootings in low-light conditions.

The camera sensors, as well as the LED flash, are placed in a silver frame with a glossy black background. This gives an additional beauty to the phone.

The fingerprint sensor is placed below that oval-shaped plate. It uses a similar silver frame as well. Thanks to Smart Touch technology it can identify fingerprints at 360 degrees and unlock the phone in 0.3 seconds.

As you can guess, the phone uses an independent ISP for storing and processing. The circle area is crafted from a premium ceramic, so no reason to worry about the longevity and proper working.

The company’s logo and the speaker grill are placed on the very lower part of the back panel.

Finally, as for holes and interfaces, the volume rocker and the power button are on the right side. The 3.5mm audio jack and the USB port are on the top. The bottom part carries only a microphone hole.

Performance

This is one of the most interesting parts of this review, as the LEAGOO KIICAA Power is packed with a chip seen on many devices before. The phone sports a MediaTek MT6580A quad-core SoC, and it’s paired with a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM. The MT6580A can be found on smartphones such as the Cubot Rainbow 2, Ulefone Metal, Oukitel U22, and others. By the way, the latter comes with 4 cameras and listed among Top 10 Android Smartphones Under-$200.

As for the chip itself, it’s manufactured in 28nm process node and offers a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor (max 1.3 GHz) as well as an ARM Mali-400 MP2. Furthermore, the chip supports dual SIM, UMTS, and HSPA+, WiFi, FM, Bluetooth and GPS. Its performance is similar to other Cortex-A7 SoCs clocked at the same frequency. Depending on the benchmark, the CPU power is roughly comparable with the Nvidia Tegra 3 and sufficient for everyday applications such as browsing. The GPU will handle only simple Android games in moderate resolutions. This chip is usually compared with the Snapdragon 410, but the latter has more advantages.

LEAGOO KIICAA Power

The phone scores around 22K at AnTuTu, which is a regular scoring for a low-end smartphone.

Finally, the LEAGOO KIICAA Power comes with a 4000mAh removable battery, which is optimized for quick charging. It is also capable of providing up to 134 hours of standby time, 17 hours of web browsing, 20 hours of phone talks, or 5 hours of video recording.

Cons
  • Stylish and nonrepeatable design
  • Gold-size screen
  • Dual-camera
  • Large battery
  • Android 7.0 OS
  • Ultra-budget price
Pros
  • Small memory options
  • 3G connectivity

Wrap Up

On one hand, the LEAGOO KIICAA Power is a regular low-end smartphone priced as low as you can imagine. Agree, $66.99 is a finding for a smartphone with a more or less popular brand onboard. But on the other hand, this device completely corresponds to its title – it comes with a large battery ready to provide long and stable life. Plus, you will get a bonus in face of the dual-camera on the back. Taking into account all these features, we can write down the KIICAA Power deserves the pricing set for it. And it’s a good offer for those who are rough budget or have fewer incomes or simply doesn’t want to spend much on a smartphone.
