A few years ago there was this trend to make mobile phones as small as possible. Over the years, this trend vanished, and smaller devices were replaced by bigger ones. Of course, all of this was long before mobile devices became mini computers with a high number of things integrated into them, known globally as smartphones. Today, smartphones with large screens are a regular occurrence and many manufacturers offer several models. iNew U9 Plus is one of those devices. It’s big, bold, and quite affordable. If you want to know how it behaved in the series of our proprietary tests as well in the daily-driver routine, read the rest of our iNew U9 Plus Review.

Packaging

We have to establish something right from the get-go, this is not a flagship device, and we will not treat it like one. That being said, there is a lot of things to be excited about in the package. Some things were quite ordinary, charger, USB cable, English manual. Others accessories like a screen protector and earphones were not expected, but we were amazed when we found the included in the box.

Design and Build quality of the iNew U9 Plus

iNew U9 Plus is a large device by any standards, but the good thing about it is its weight. It feels pretty light in the hand with its 140 grams. You can’t use it singlehandedly, but you can easily use it with two hands. There are several colors to choose from, black, golden and rose gold, and all of them look astonishing.

The device looks quite modern, and it can’t fit in any ordinary smartphone pattern. Build quality is excellent, and the phone is sturdy but elegant, seemingly the perfect combination. On the front side of the device, there is a 6-Inch screen with capacitive buttons below and camera, sensor and earpiece above the display. The removable textured backside is graced with protruded camera and LED flash, as well as iNew company logo beneath.

On the lowest end of the back, there is a large speaker. The right side of the phablet houses volume and power keys. They are clicky and tactile enough. Micro USB port and 3.5mm headphone jack are located on the top of the device. iNew U9 Plus really is a great looking and quality built device.

Display

iNew U9 Plus features a 2.5D 6-Inch IPS display with the resolution of 1280×720 pixels. Colors are vivid, viewing angles are solid, and overall responsiveness is on par with the competition. This screen size is perfect for browsing and multimedia consumption, but it all depends on person’s preferences. Of course, the manufacturer could incorporate a FULL HD screen on this size, but that would negatively affect the price and battery life. Overall, it is a nice looking display.

Processor and RAM

iNew U9 Plus is packed with some decent horsepower. Under the hood of this behemoth, there is a Quad-Core 1.3 GHz MT6735 CPU, coupled with Mali-T720 GPU and 2GB od RAM. This combination is not bad at all when you consider the price of the device. In daily activities, it will serve you well, but it will struggle with latest 3D titles.

This device is not built for gaming, but you can enjoy some less demanding titles on it. We have no complaints about the overall speed and responsiveness of the device.

Camera

iNew U9 Plus features a 13-Megapixel sensor on the back and 5-Megapixel sensor on the front. Image quality is not among the best out there, but we were able to get some stellar shots out of it. There is plenty of details in good lighting conditions and colors are well saturated. White balance can occasionally be off, and dynamic range is not the best we’ve seen. Low light shots are not great, but they can get better with the use of the LED flash.

The front camera is good enough for selfies and video calls, but it’s nothing special overall. Video resolution tops at 1080p with 30fps and quality is solid as well.

Storage Capacity

The device comes with 16GB of onboard storage. The Good thing is that it can be expanded via micro sd cards of up to 64GB so it can fulfill all your needs.

Operating System (OS)

iNew U9 Plus comes with Android OS 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed. Android runs pretty well and without lags or stutters on this hardware. You can install a bunch of apps and games from the Google Play store or any other store of your choosing.

Connectivity

This universally unlocked device features up to 4G networks with LTE speeds. It offers dual-SIM support as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. GPS and A-GPS are onboard as well. Signal strength is splendid, and we haven’t encountered any missed or dropped calls. Unfortunately, there is no NFC support.

Network type: FDD-LTE+WCDMA+GSM
2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 900/2100MHz
4G: FDD-LTE 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz

iNew U9 Plus Battery life

The device is graced with a large 3000mAh lithium-ion battery. In out testing scenarios it lasted two days on a single charge which is quite good considering we were always online and that we are quite the multimedia junkies.

Additional Features

iNew U9 Plus features several crucial sensors that ease the usage of this giant. Also, because of these sensors, there are a plethora of other features and possibilities that you can do with your phone. Stuff like double tap to wake, swipe up to wake and others.

Pros and Cons

In this part of the review, we present you with the list of the biggest virtues and flaws of some device, for your viewing pleasure.

Pros
  • Enormous screen
  • Good camera
  • Solid build quality
  • Great battery life
  • 4G network support
Cons

Opinion

iNew U9 Plus is a solid performer all around, with decent specs and a moderate price. For those of you who like phablets and don’t want to spend much money on them, this is the right choice.
