On learning that there is a newer smartphone (phablet) in the market after HOMTOM HT17, we rushed to get our hands on it to look closer to HOMTOM HT17 PRO. Whether this smartphone can convince us to recommend for a straight-buy, you find it out in this detailed Homtom HT17 Pro Review. Its highlight features are – 5.5 inch, Android 6.0, MTK6737 1.3GHz Quad-core eith Mali-T720 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM, A-GPS, GPS, Dual Cameras, Fingerpring Sensor, Hotknot, OTG and Bluetooth 4.0.

Design

The HOMTOM HT17 PRO has dimensions of 15.3 x 7.76 x 0.79 cm. Its thickness of 0.79mm is also considered to be fair. The reason for its light weight is due to the overall plastic case of smartphone. Unfortunately, its back is very prone to fingerprints. There are no gaps and removable adhesive backing is a tight fit. Overall, it has an acceptably good finish.

On the right side are the power button and the volume rocker key. The keys have a pleasant pressure point and sit firmly in the smartphone body housing.

On the lower side is the microphone on the upper side of the headphone jack and the micro USB port.

On the front are the three typical soft-touch buttons. The earpiece is centered over the 5.5 inch screen. And on the right is the brightness and proximity sensor. On the left beside the front camera is the notification LED.

On the back of HOMTOM HT17 PRO are the main camera, flash and the fingerprint sensor, one beside the other. At the bottom is the loudspeaker, which for this price range sounds remarkably well. And also teh speaker is not overridden even at full volume and the sound through the headphone output is fair. The system comes with sound enhancement which makes the sound playback only worse. Without the much un-needed enhancement option, both speakers and headphones sound much better.

Processor and Memory

HOMTOM HT17 PRO comes with low-power MTK 6737 Quad Core Mediatek. This is further supported by a Mali T720 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and 2GB of RAM clocked at 3175.23 MBps. The internal memory has a capacity of 16 GB and a read/write speed of 21.35/42.44 MBps. Further, the memory is expandable with a memory card up to 64GB.

The system runs smoothly and the apps can be opened without much of a delay. This performance has been improved from the precious version due to refinement and upgrade in the RAM. And with the enhanced RAM and internal memory, it also performs quite above average during gaming.

Camera

The Homtom HT17 Pro comes with a Sony 8.0 Megapixels primary camera at the back and a light 2.0MP secondary camera in the front. The primary camera is enhanced, using software, upto 13 MP equivalent and the secondary upto 5MP equivalent.

The focus and the shutter speed which was quite slow in the HT17 have been refined and is better now. Now, it also performs better in low lighting conditions with more vivid colors. For this price range, they are very good. For the sharpness, Homtom HT17 Pro Review found it convincing for a mid-range phablet.

One amazingly useful feature is the three finger screeshot. By this three finger screenshot feature, user will be able to take a screenshot just by placing three fingers on the screen of HT17 Pro.

This is a better option than using combination of keys, usually simultaneously, that needs to be pressed to take a screenshot which difficult and troublesome at times.

Connectivity

Homtom HT17 Pro supports Dual micro SIM dual, standby. The HT17 Pro supports 2G, 3G and 4G, and the reception was very good. The voice quality when making calls was good both on the caller and the receiver ends. The loudspeakers of the earpiece is loud, but sounds a bit dull, but by no means indistinct.

GPS Test

HOMTOM HT17 PRO GPS

The GPS module performed well without operating problems and with quite an accuracy. During a driving distance of 600km, it never came to an incorrect location.

HOMTOM HT17 PRO only have light, accelerometer, finger-print and proximity sensors. The built-up on the back of fingerprint sensor performed a surprisingly good job with its less .3s. While responding unlocking was delayed by approximately 1 second, but it is very precise and there was not a failure to recognize my impression.

Battery Pack

In Homtom HT17 Pro is powered by a 3000mAh battery. The product seems to have decided to fix the absence of quick charging option. Now, it has the option of quick charging and improved teh charging time upto 30% from the previous version – HT17.
